GLEE star Matthew Morrison has confirmed he will work with Cheryl on new talent show The Greatest Dancer. Sending a birthday message to the singer, Matthew said: “So happy you were born! Singer, Ed Sheeran is suing after he was blocked from receiving any royalties from his No 1 smash Shape of You. The 27-year-old megastar has not pocketed a penny from the song which was last year’s bestselling single since May 10 following a complaint by a little-known songwriter. Musician Sam Chokri, 25, claimed the hit tune, said to have amassed £20million in revenue, is a copy of his 2015 track Oh Why. And he has won a ruling from the Performing Rights Society which decided to put the hit “into suspense” in May meaning Ed has had no money from his song being broadcast or performed. Meryl Streep and Cher once saved a woman who was being attacked by a “gigantic man” on the streets of New York, the singer revealed in an interview. The incident, which happened in the 80s, saw the two actresses run straight at the woman’s attacker. “Meryl had just had [her daughter] Mamie, and we were downtown in her old apartment, and she said, ‘I want some ice cream”. “And so we walk out and the first thing we see is some guy hitting cars with a brick. And then we walk down the street and we hear screaming. And we come around the corner, and this gigantic man is ripping clothes off of this girl.” “Meryl starts screaming, and I start screaming, and we run toward this gigantic man and he turns and starts running toward us. And just out of, I don’t know, we split and he ran through us. And so we went up to the girl, and all of her clothes were torn and she was clutching her bag.” Cher also recalled the funny comment the woman made after being saved: “She goes, ‘Oh my God! I was saved by Meryl Streep and Cher. George and Amal Clooney are stepping up to help migrant children separated from their parents at the border, announcing that their Clooney Foundation for Justice donated $100,000 to the Young Centre for Immigrant’s Children’s Rights a human-rights group that advocates for immigrant children. “At some point in the future our children will ask us: is it true, did our country really take babies from their parents and put them in detention centres? He instead asked him to stop at an ATM so he could withdraw cash for the £5.30 fare, but when the machine didn’t work, Hugh, 57, claims the driver was so angry that he sped off with his wife. “I panicked and said to my new wife, ‘Get out the car’. He’s not really called Calvin Calvin Harris is not the DJ’s real name! He was born in Scotland as Adam Richard Wiles. Despite releasing his music under his stage name, you will find that his real name is used in writing credits for his music. Maybe he got Calvin from his favourite undies?

He’s had some pretty unglamourous jobs Although he’s now worth close to $200m, Calvin’s first job was as a fish factory followed by a job at Safeway. He said that Safeway was less smelly, but also that he made less money. We’d take less money over smelly every time!

He doesn’t like to wear shorts He claims because he is Scottish he doesn’t like wearing shorts and that being seen in public without a shirt is offensive! He’d be offended by some of the sights walking around Banus then!

He doesn’t make twerking music. Calvin’s not interested in music for twerking, but he recognises that it’s fine as a dance step. The Hot editorial team aren’t big twerking fans. Mainly because they can’t do it!

He’s a big guy Harris is 6ft 5 3/4 inches and takes size 13 shoes. He has problems finding stylish shoes, too. He joked that tall people are more genetically advanced. And you know what they say about people with big feet…

He tells white lies While Calvin was writing his second album ‘Ready for the Weekend’, he claimed his laptop - with some of the album - was ‘lost’ at Heathrow Airport. Actually the DJ apparently said that to buy a bit of extra time! Naughty boy!

He beat Jacko! Calvin broke a record previously held by Michael Jackson for the most UK top 10 hits from a studio album. His album ‘18 Months’ had nine top ten hits including ‘Sweet Nothing’ with Florence Welch, ‘We Found Love’ with Rihanna and ‘I Need Your Love’ with Ellie Goulding. That’s an impressive record, in all senses of the word!

It’s not all about him Calvin says that he doesn’t write songs about his experiences, “I’m not an autobiographical singer,” he explained. Despite rumours that his 2016 song ‘My Way’ was written about his ex Taylor Swift, Calvin revealed in an interview it’s actually about leaving his supermarket job. At least it means Taylor won’t sue him!

He stage invaded! Calvin invaded the stage of the UK’s The X Factor during a performance by Irish duo Jedward, holding a pineapple on his head and bending over to point at his buttocks. He was subsequently escorted from the studio by the security team “If you look at music it’s a frightening stranglehold that Simon Cowell has got over the entire music chart in the UK at the moment”, he said. We felt the same about Jedward, trust us!

t the end of last year, Spotify announced the most-streamed artists. Most popular female artist of 2017, ahead of the likes of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Ariana Grande was Dua Lipa, the sassy new kid on the charts and the Queen of what she calls “dance crying”. Born in Pristina, Dua’s family was forced to flee to London when the former Yugoslavia violently broke up in the 90s. Her parents, who had professional careers in Kosovo, took waiting jobs, and the experience had a lasting impact on her worldview and work ethic. Lipa says that coming from a background such as hers, “you understand something on a personal level. That no refugee leaves their country without having to.” After living in the UK, Dua (her name is Albanian for ‘kiss’) the young aspiring star soon realised that when she moved back to Kosovo with her parents after

the end of the civil war, she was never going to make it if she stayed in Pristina. She came up with “a trick”, she says, selling her parents on the idea that her main goal was to go to a good British university. “I said: ‘To do that I’ll need to do my GCSEs and A-levels in English.’” It worked. Back in London, Lipa was looked after by her parents’ friends. She enrolled at Sylvia Young on weekends, and began recording demos that she uploaded to YouTube and SoundCloud. Eventually Ben Mawson, Lana Del Rey’s manager, had a listen. He signed Lipa, and started arranging long, immersive studio sessions with different collaborators. The best stuff, tonally, seemed to happen when Lipa’s two preferred genres – moody rap and catchy bubblegum – came crunching together. “New Rules” was actually written for and rejected by a number of other artists, including the girl band Little Mix. When Lipa tried the track she infused it with something new. One and a half billion clicks later “New Rules” remains her calling card, her name-maker. After several delays, her debut album took two-and-a-half years, as she flatly refused to

here are several reasons why I enjoy being Editor of Hot Magazine. There are the celebrity interviews and the opening party invitations of course. But one of the best things is the restaurant reviews, and especially

when it’s Mistral Beach. I have to come clean and admit that I have been a Marbella beach bum for the past 30 years or so, and there is nothing that I like better than the feeling of the sand between my toes, a delicious lunch on the table, some cool beats playing in the background and the Mediterranean glistening before me. Which pretty much describes my most recent visit to Mistral Beach. I have actually been coming to this particular stretch of beach for decades now, hanging out at long departed beach bars such as Ipanema Beach, Babaloo Beach and the Rodeo Beach Club. And while other beach clubs seem to go for the “Party on the Playa”• approach, Mistral is laid back preferring to let the food, service and brilliant ambience attract a “right crowd and no crowding” clientele. It’s both well established and well liked by both visitors and locals, and attracts sun worshipers of all ages. If you want to sleep off the effects of a night out in the Port or work on your tan, then there are plenty of sunbeds. But Mistral Beach isn’t just about topping up the tan. The food is, quite simply, superb. There is a large selection of salads as you would expect, so we started with a Haiti salad – avocado, prawns, lettuce, cherry tomatoes – while other starters include classics such as the Melon and Palma Ham and Bresola, Rucula and Parmisan shavings as well as a spicy Gambas Pil Pil, Boqureones Fritos and Fritura de Puntillitas (fried baby squid). Hot’s publisher, also a huge fan of Mistral, asked the waiting staff to bring a selection of dishes

that would photograph well, and soon our table was groaning under the weight of food. This included a superb seafood paella, impressive churrasco (Brazilian style bbq) and a wonderfully presented Red King Prawn Skewer. By this time the other diners at Mistral were Instagraming photos of our food, obviously convinced that we were both wealthy and very, very hungry! And although the Hot team were rather marvelously full at the end of the lunch, we couldn’t resist Mistral’s superb crème brulee and tiramasalu. If anyone over tells you that there is no culture in Marbella, then take them to Mistral Beach, where you’ll find beach culture at its finest!

Although it has a varied menu that serves everything from burgers to sanwiches and salads, La Sala by the Sea’s menu has a strong Thai influence, and if you’re a lover of spicy, tangy and creamy dishes full of flavour, you will find yourself in heaven here. We begin with the Thai Sharing Platter, which is made up of prawn toast, beef and chicken satay skewers and, spring rolls and my favourites — the Vietnamese rolls, which are a 100

fresh and light juxtaposition to the many deep-fried dishes. We also enjoy some Prawns with tasty Dipping sauces, Vegetable Spring Rolls and some Sushi for the table to share. Ok, I know that sushi is not typically Thai, but our waiter has informed me that this is one of the restaurant’s favourites and I’ve often seen girls munching on sushi and sipping champagne in slinky swimsuits at the large sun beds, so I plump for a little Sala by the Sea decadence and order a platter. And It’s great! The platter is made up of a selection of sashimi, nigiri, rolls and veggie pieces and we each grab our chopsticks and choose our favourites, dipping in soy — mine with a generous helping of wasabi! For the main course a veritable Thai feast is served and as the dishes are placed down before us I remark that if it tastes anything as good as it looks we’re in for a treat. And ohhhh, we are not disappointed. A Green Thai Curry is served with rice in bamboo bowls and is deliciously creamy with just

the right hit of spice. A Kaprow Stir Fry is loaded with garlic, chilli and basil and is the ultimate ‘taste of Thailand’ and then an extraordinary Seared Tuna is served with half an Avocado finely sliced and Edamame Beans, seasoned with Sesame and Soy and it’s the perfect dish for a light afternoon lunch. Of course, I’m not having a light afternoon lunch! I’m having one of the most decadent meals imaginable, but I reason to myself that I am a workaholic and a perfectionist so I would hate to leave any stone unturned — or any dish upsampled! Bikini-clad girls are lounging by the pool, a cheer erupts from a crowd whose eyes are glued on one of the large TV screens where all of the Football World Cup matches are being screened throughout the day and a tray of colourful cocktails arrives, decorated with pomegranates, berries and fruity concoctions. Hot’s publisher and editor grab a cocktail each and head to catch the match’s second half and I make myself comfortable at a poolside bed for a very well earned siesta ! Leading Italian designer Elisabetta Franchi launched her latest boutique in Puerto Banus at the end of last month. The exclusive event attracted the crème de la crème of Marbella’s seriously wealthy beautiful people, including footballer Martin Demichelis and wife Evangelina Anderson with a liberal sprinkling of European aristocracy and Middle Eastern royalty. Elisabetta was on hand to present her latest collections and must have bags of the season!

The ladies who lunch - and some rather fortunate men - were out in force for a good cause earlier this month. Holly Millard’s Elite Events company organised a charity lunch at La Sala for popular photographer David Toms, who suffered life changing injuries in a motorcycle accident. Guests were treated to a fabulous meal, as well as live entertainment from talented young singer Albie Davis and sax supremo Leonardo. But the biggest round of applause came for David himself, who was able to attend the event. The afternoon finished with a lively fashion show from international designer Julie Miles, who had flown in especially for the event. A charity raffle and auction, which included items such as nights at El Oceano and Nobu Hotels, signed football memorabilia and several restaurant and beauty treatment vouchers, rounded off the afternoon, with the event raising €3500 for David’s continued care. World Cup fever has hit big time, with all the normal hype that England has the chance to go all the way. As I write this let’s hope this time they can do it.

have been at Linekers for the last four World Cups and this time has surpassed all the previous ones. The atmosphere at both Linekers and Portside is something I have never experienced before - it has been incredible. The Sunday afternoon game against Panama, had to be one of the best days ever. Although it was very hot people just kept coming. There wasn’t a space inside Linekers and Portside and outside was crazy, with literally hundreds of people singing, dancing and just loving life. After the game finished the party continued long into the night. Is it really coming home?

I went to the “Lark in the Park”, a lovely charity event for children with cancer in Benahavis Park. I packed a picnic hamper, which is the most amazing accessory ever, and, looking like a seasoned picnicker went to Benahavis village first. With so many restaurants there, however, I ended up having a lovely Italian lunch and didn’t even open the picnic hamper. It looked good though! The event itself took place in the amphitheatre, with a play from the local amateur dramatic society and the day finished a lady called Stella who was brilliant, singing some proper old tunes. It was a great day out. La Sala by the Sea hosted their White and Gold party again this year, which was another great evening. I always love this event, and this was the best one so far in my opinion. The music and general entertainment was really good and so was the food. The next day we went one at time to collect our cars. First there were two of us, but it ended up with five of us meeting, the rose wine got opened, no cars got collected

and we all ended up in Portside until closing time. The best laid plans and all that. The cars got collected two days later! For San Juan this year, I went to San Pedro beach, which is usually a good choice as it’s a big date in the calendar year for the Spanish. They never cease to amaze me - they turn up with tents, gazebos, food to feed thousands and always the granny in tow – a big family affair. They had set up a massive stage so all looked fabulous until the music started. It had to be the worse music I have ever heard at any event and completely killed it- head banging music for hours. So, after the ritual of burning the bad and brining in the good by jumping over seven waves backwards in the sea – I had to leave. I couldn’t stand that Godawful music any longer! Due to being extremely busy, plus the football, I have not had much time to do anything else, but hopefully by next issue I will be saying – “It came home! England, champions of the world, 2018!

Which of course, millions of people are. But, they do throw in some unexpected corkers. Last year it was Jason Derulo – smashed it – and this year the one and only LEGENDARY Jamiroquai. Having seen him five times in concert already, I’d only go if I had front row seats, but it’s bound to be a massive hit. Sting and The Pet Shop Boys are two more surprises in this year’s line-up. icons who will certainly put on a good show. The Golden Sessions are for all you electronic music lovers. Held every Monday from 2am (brilliant, Mondays – typically dead days of the week…) this year the Goldens feature some massive names: Hardwell, Gianluca Vacchi, Martin Solveig and Nervo. Some party lovers just make their way up to the venue for the live DJ sessions. You have to purchase tickets in advance but are guaranteed a table

which makes it much more attractive than heading to a club not knowing what you’ll find. To sum up, if you’re loaded, Starlite is an amazing place to spend a quality night out or several quality nights out in Marbella with music and dancing and so much more. If you’re on a tighter budget, it’s definitely worth spending money on a ticket for a concert or DJ session instead of going to the usual places (on offer all year round). The venue is simply breath-taking and worth the cost of the entrance alone.
