Once agaIn, we had the privilege of returning to the serene coastlines of the Sultanate of Oman this issue. Historic ports and the old town of Muscat ringed by ancient fortifcations, and 16th Century Portuguese battle-tested forts dotted along rugged mountain coasts were some of the scenes that awaited us on this trip.

The stark beauty of these dramatic mountains and cliffs towering over the tranquil azure waters of the Gulf of Oman offer some of the most photogenic scenery to be found anywhere in the GCC.

This beauty is not being wasted. Only ten minute’s drive from the historic old town of Muscat is the idyllic Barr Al Jissah development, which comprises incredible clifftop luxury villas and the opulent Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, which make the most of their spectacular location with uninterrupted views of the ocean.

Lürssen is proud to present a “young” lady at the forthcoming Monaco Yacht Show: Coral Ocean, formerly known as Coral Island Coral Ocean is one of the frst original masterpieces of the stylist and interior designer, the late Jon Bannenberg, both in terms of her clean exterior line and her amazing Polynesian interior.

Coral Ocean was originally launched in 1994 and has been beautifully maintained throughout her life. She has spent several winters at Lürssen, including this last winter where certain areas were changed and updated to conform to regulations, as she will for the frst time be available for charter.

So far, she has only been used privately and has never been featured in a magazine. Guests who will have the pleasure of cruising on her in the Mediterranean this summer will be amazed by her beach house-style interior.

HEESEN’S HYBRID PROJECT NOVA SOLD

Heesen Yachts has announced the sale of Project Nova (Y/N 17850). The client, a yacht connoisseur, was introduced to the shipyard by Thom Conboy of Heesen Yachts USA. Project Nova is a highperformance, supremely comfortable Fast Displacement yacht with reduced environmental impact, wrapped in an elegant design package with exterior lines by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects and interior styling by Sinot Yacht Design. Thanks to her hybrid propulsion, Project Nova ofers the ultimate form of luxury: silent cruising. In this case, ‘hybrid’ means that the yacht can draw on diesel mechanical and diesel electrical propulsion individually or at the same time to provide more fexible power management and better efciency along with less noise and vibration.

6 NEW FERRETTI MODELS AT CANNES

The Ferretti Group has announced its participation in the 39th edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival in September with a feet of over 20 models, including six world premieres for the brands Ferretti Yachts, Custom Line, Riva and Pershing. The new models that will make their ofcial debut ever on the Cannes Croisette are the Ferretti Yachts 850 luxury fybridge, the Ferretti Yachts 450, the Rivamare, the 76’ Bahamas, the Pershing 5X, and fnally the Custom Line Navetta 37.

ROYAL HUISMAN COMPLETES ADELE REFIT

Adèle, the 55m ketch launched by Vitters in 2005, has left Royal Huisman following an extensive reft programme by Huisft, the shipyard’s division for superyacht reft, repair and renewal. The yacht has started an expedition to the Arctic, cruising Svalbard and Norway, after which she will be returning to Holland for a quick visit before continuing her journey to Central America and beyond. Adèle was the frst yacht to enter the extended reft hall last winter since its increase in capacity enabling the yard to work on multiple yachts in parallel.

YAS MARINA ANNOUNCES 2016 BOAT FESTIVAL

Following on from the success of last year’s event, Yas Marina has now announced their upcoming Boat Festival, taking place on the 28th and 29th of October. Originally conceptualized as a Used Boat Show, at the last event so many diferent used and new products were showcased that it has now become a marine lifestyle festival taking place with the stunning backdrop of Yas Marina Circuit. Expect displays of many boats PWC and watersports equipment, boat charters and sea trials, workshops and product demos, as well as food, drink, live music and entertainment.

ENVIRONMENTAL TOURISM AT SIR BANI YAS

Since Anantara’s opening on Sir Bani Yas Island in 2008, the practice of planting one mangrove tree per visitor has played a major role in promoting Abu Dhabi’s preservation activities to the country’s tourists.

All guests visiting Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island receive a brief introduction to the environmental facts of the island, as well as its Arabian Wildlife Park with over 15,000 free-roaming animals — one of the largest of its kind in the world. By planting one tree per visitor, Sir Bani Yas has been able to increase the mangrove population on the island drastically. As a result of its conservation eforts, Sir Bani Yas Island was awarded the World’s Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination at the World Travel Awards in 2015.

A nail-biting fnal day ended in a breathless victory for Oman Air in the Extreme Sailing Series in Hamburg which earned them their third Act win of the 2016 series. “It is a great feeling to have won because it is a challenging venue and today we really felt the pressure of waiting for a race and knowing that patience would prevail,” said Skipper Morgan Larson. “It was hard but eventually we won the event by a point so we are very happy!”

The win maintains Oman Air’s top spot in the series. The next Act will see Larson, Pete Greenhalgh and Al Mashari reunited with Ed Smyth and James Wierzbowski in St Petersburg from September 1 to 4.

eesen Yachts recently launched the largest yacht in their feet to date, the 70m fast displacement superyacht Project Kometa. The owners have christened their new yacht Galactica Super Nova.

Galactica Super Nova is not only the biggest yacht built by Heesen Yachts so far, but she is also one of the top 200 largest yachts in the world and one of the fastest yachts for her size.

She utilises the revolutionary Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) technology devised by van Oossanen Naval Architects, which Heesen was the frst to put into production. Thanks to the addition of a third engine to power a booster jet, Galactica Super Nova will be capable of reaching an impressive top speed of more than 30 knots.

Heesen has been building fast yachts since 1978 and during that time they have become a world leader in the feld. With exterior lines by Espen Øino and interior design by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, Galactica Super Nova is both an evolution of Heesen’s long experience in the superyacht sector and also the result of a specifc research into what the market wants and expects. Galactica Super Nova is the result of what is perceived as a growing market demand for fast transit speeds, seamlessly combined with the high level of comfort and space traditionally associated with displacement yachts.

Beyond her terrifc effciency and high speed, Galactica Super Nova epitomizes luxury on water. Having tender and toys (including a quad ski) housed in the garage located in the forward part of the hull allowed the designers to develop a fantastic beach club that offers the owners and their guests the ability to enjoy a lifestyle closer to the water.

Other key features include a 13,500 litre pool on the main deck aft with contra fow system for swimming, a waterfall and integrated Jacuzzi for relaxing, while the glass bottom of the pool allows natural light to flter into the beach club below. Forward on the main deck, a touch-and-go helipad facilitates the arrival of guests on board and doubles in an outdoor cinema that perfectly completes the luxurious lifestyle on board this spectacular superyacht.

This incredible piece of technological luxury is wrapped in a head-turning exterior design by world-renowned designer and naval architect Espen Øino, who worked on a pre-established engineering platform provided by Heesen’s in-house experts. brings in new design elements that make Galactica Super Nova stand out in Heesen’s galaxy.

Twelve guests will be accommodated in six staterooms with the master suite on the main deck forward, four guest cabins on the lower deck and a VIP found on the wheel house deck aft. The owner appointed acclaimed Dutch designer Sinot to create the light, pure and well-balanced interior with a sophisticated equilibrium between monochromic and soft colors. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, understated and inviting yet extremely refned. A wide range of leathers – from galuchat to very soft calfskin – form the basis of the interior decor that includes a variety of stones such as calacatta luccicoso and various onyx. The standout feature in the interior is the central staircase with a crystal elevator. Steel, nickel, chrome, wood and leather fow together to form a magnifcent and grandiose architectural helix.

After her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Montenegro, she will cruise in the Mediterranean for the summer season before fnally making her public debut at the Monaco Yacht Show next month.

he new Azimut 66 perfectly incorporates the brand’s finest ingredients, starting from the exterior profile. In keeping with Azimut’s tradition, the model remains graceful and sporty, but offers more volume and surface area.

The standout feature is obviously the flybridge, the largest in its category, with three different areas for entertaining. However, also impressive is the four-cabin layout offering outstanding liveability, as well as the new bar area positioned to the fore of the galley, which is ideal for breakfast or for accompanying the pilot during navigation.

A Hi-Tech Heart

The technological feather in this craft’s cap is its electronic power steering system, the first to be installed on a boat in this class anywhere in the world. With control functions that can be personalised, the owner can regulate wheel turns and steering effort according to speed and piloting style.

On the Azimut 66, carbon fibre is used to laminate the radar arch, hard top, upper forward part of the flybridge and foredeck, which allows volumes and surfaces to be increased in size while keeping the same weight, therefore maintaining excellent levels of dynamic stability.

The integrated Raymarine monitoring system has been customized in order to provide interfaces with as many onboard systems as possible: from the engines data up to the sound system and the air-conditioning regulation. Its functions can be accessed from both helm stations and remotely by tablet.

The latest trends from Milan’s Salone del Mobile furniture show have been taken on board, inspiring the furnishing and décor in a style that reflects an exquisitely Italian sense of history, heritage and culture. Examples are the heat-treated oak, elegant figured sycamore and highly prized maple, enhanced with an ultraglossy varnish in the finest tradition of Italian handcraftsmanship.

Turning to the living areas, the main deck contains the salon, which features two roomy counterfacing sofas, large side windows and a

55-inch TV with hi-lo mechanism. The lower deck of the Azimut 66 contains the full beam master cabin with its large ensuite bathroom, the VIP cabin and two twin-berth cabins with enlarged portholes, one with bunk berths, and three bathrooms, all with separate showers. The suite in the centre of the yacht has full-glass windows with no struts and the owner can choose between a vanity area or a chest of drawers to complement the wardrobes. The VIP cabin located in the bow has large windows and offers plenty of storage space, with two slim wardrobes, wall units and more storage space under the bed. Moving to the yacht’s exterior, the most striking feature of Azimut 66 is unquestionably the 28sqm flybridge, which is divided into three separate areas. Next to the helm is a dinette that can be turned into a sunbathing area. In the centre, opposite the wet bar, is the dining area with a table for up to eight guests, while the layout of the stern area can be customised with sofas and sunbathing areas.

Ever since I was a child my obsession grew and I started to work with kits. During my time at university I was able to go further into details and I started collecting for four years, and thus I have memorized the structure of airplanes. What was the frst model you built?

It was a plastic kit 737 ANA (All Nippon Airways), when I was 18 years old. As an individual the frst model I ever sold was a Braniff

International 727, scale 1:200. I got the plastic kit and gave it a handmade paint. I made it in my dorm room.

Before that I used to buy plastic kits and paint them. Now all the models are made from wood, with some parts of the airplane in metal such as landing gear.

What are the most memorable models you have made?

I have designed two special themed airplanes for Gulf Air, one being the Formula 1, which is an A330, and the other was an A320 for the Bahrain Air Show. I have designed couple of models in both cases and the chosen design would be transferred into the airplane that was show cased at those events.

I have done a lot for many different VIPs. The largest model that I have made was a 3m long model. The smallest model made was 15cm.

Why did you start designing marine models as well ?

Airplanes are very complicated, and once you perfect them you can apply the skills to anything. During exhibitions people kept on asking me about boats and yachts. So the idea was placed in my mind, and it worked out well. Very soon people started placing orders and we went on for the next 16 years! I have made many exhibitions across the USA in different states and in Europe.

What are your plans for the future?

A new venture would be an aviator Jackets form World War I & II with a modern touch. They will be released at the end of the year along with vintage aviator briefcases, Classic wallets and aviator watches.

The old town of Muscat and the Muttrah Corniche form the heart of the Sultanate’s sprawling modern-day capital, and much of their heritage has been lovingly preserved for visitors.

The suLTanaTe OF OMan has a rich history dating back thousands of years, from early Bronze and Stone Age archaeological sites to the Portuguese colonisation in the 15th Century and later Oman’s own empire which stretched West to Africa and East to the Asian Subcontinent. Although the Sultanate’s modern-day capital now stretches from the old town all the way to Seeb, the heart of the current city of Muscat can be found on its far Eastern tip, along the coastline stretching from the old trading port of Muttrah to the seat of Oman’s government, the old town of Muscat.

The signifcance of this stretch of coastline can be seen in the many defensive forts and watch towers that are dotted on all major viewpoints along the water’s edge, standing guard over the important sites below.

The old town was once entirely surrounded by a walled fortifcation, and right up until the mid20th Century, the gates were closed at dusk for the night. Some of the old wall and many of the old gates can still be seen today, though most have been signifcantly renovated. Within you’ll fnd Al Alam Palace, the offcial residence of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, as well as many cultural centres, including the National Museum of Oman, the Omani-French Museum, and Bait Al Zubair Museum.

For a superb photo opportunity, head to the waterfront by Al Mirani Fort. Aside from Mirani Fort itself, if you turn towards the sea, you get a spectacular view of Al Alam Palace and Al Jalali Fort across the bay. Mirani Fort and Jalali Fort are both restored 16th Century Portuguese forts that have throughout their history been occupied by Portuguese, Ottoman, Persian and Omani forces. Despite its cultural signifcance, the old town of Muscat still retains the air of a peaceful Omani village, with many locals still living in houses and villas clustered amongst the imposing government buildings.

Being both close to the Royal Palace and located very near the entrance to the Arabian Gulf, Muttrah’s strategic location has ensured its status as both a trading port and naval base for many hundreds of years. Even today, a wide variety of vessels can be seen there, from old wooden dhows to cargo ships, luxury cruise liners, visiting battleships and even the private yacht of Sultan Qaboos.

A stoll along the Muttrah Corniche (waterfront promenade) is an experience in itself. With 18th Century Arabian architecture, traditional cafes, towering ships, and an imposing 16th Century Portuguese fort perched atop a mountain overlooking it all, it is a photographer’s paradise. Also found on the Corniche is the entrance to the historic Muttrah Souk. Although a major tourist spot, Muttrah Souk still acts as a major trading hub for Omanis and other nationalities who live in the area. Since the labyrinthine lanes and alleyways were covered by the municipality, shielding visitors from the heat, the Souk is bustling with tourist and locals alike 365 days a year.

On the main promenade, you’ll mostly fnd souvenir shops with vendors trying to sell you the usual tacky wares, from fridge magnets to incense burners and traditional Omani headdresses. Along this street is also where the prices are highest. Head deeper into the alleyways, however, and the tourists thin out, and you’re afforded a much more authentic glimpse of what Muttrah Souk is all about. Here you’ll fnd shops that have been family-owned for generations, selling everything from traditional Omani handicrafts and jewellery in gold and silver, embroidered fabrics, imported herbs and

spices, and much, much more. It is quite easy to get lost in these alleyways, but fear not! Crime is non-existent, and a friendly shop keep is always on hand to point you in the right direction.

And remember: Never fail to haggle!

Now they are turning their hand to this exciting land-based project at Barr Al Jissah, creating nine unique homes.

“We were seeking an exclusive brand to partner with, so we looked at their work and saw that their design direction and achievements matched what we were aspiring to,” explains Firas Matraji, CEO of Barr Al Jissah. “We approached them and explained our concept of yacht living and they agreed to come on board. What is Barr Al Jissah’s ultimate selling point to you?

To me, it’s the location. Wherever you look you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the ocean and Al Hajar Mountains. We wanted it to be a luxury lifestyle destination, meaning that though it is easily accessible from the capital Muscat, it is still a relaxing retreat from the stresses of everyday life.

There were some recent steps taken to further enhance the project in that respect. Can you explain those briefy?

We’ve kept up-to-date with the current requirements and expectations of homeowners. We’ve updated the designs to feature cleaner, modern lines and open spaces, making optimal use of the views throughout the homes, which has really made a difference.

Over the past few years we have partnered with various likeminded luxury brands. ShangriLa has been here for quite some time, but we have also joined forces with the likes of Quintessentially to provide luxury concierge services, and Oman Arab Bank who offer elite private banking.

So it’s not only the views and the location that are outstanding here, but also the services.

We have taken this one step further, introducing the new concept of yacht living through our design partnership with the awardwinning Bannenberg & Rowell studio, famed for their luxury yacht interiors.

Bannenberg & Rowell?

Rather than partner with luxury brands - who have already branched out into luxury interiors - we wanted to bring something completely unique and different to Barr Al Jissah. Through this partnership, we were really able to bring to life the concept of yacht living, which can be seen through interior details such as the teak decking, evocative of a yacht deck.

Are you looking to develop Barr Al Jissah as a yachting destination?

Absolutely. We’ve tied up with a couple of yacht charter companies in the Gulf, mainly Dubai. We also act as a point of entry to the Sultanate. We have a nice, relatively sheltered bay outside the marina and we can even provide water taxis to and from the yacht for those who don’t have their own tender. The idea is that we can handle all of the details on behalf of the

yacht owners, including entry documents and transfers, so they can make the most of their time at Barr Al Jissah. Additionally, our captains are on hand to advise them on the best spots to cruise in Oman or accompany them should they wish. We’re getting more and more yachts coming here, simply because of those services; mainly from the UAE, but also occasionally from Europe or elsewhere.

What are the next major steps for the project?

The next major step for us is the marina development. This will offer a combination of apartments, duplexes and villas surrounding the marina; along with a waterfront promenade with an array of dining and retail outlets. A luxurious and exclusive yacht club for all our homeowners will complete the project, providing a private beach, gym, pool and tennis courts.

We’re also developing our souq area into a nice family entertainment centre with a wide range of activities for both children and adults. We’re focusing a lot on ftness and entertainment, but there will also be art, culture, and even a classic car museum. Ultimately, we want our homeowners and hotel guests to want for nothing at our destination, and to showcase all that there is to do at Barr Al Jissah.

The excLusIve “Lo Scienziato” skeletonised tourbillon collection is dedicated to the Tuscan genius Galileo Galilei, whose discoveries laid the foundations for the development of mechanical timepieces.

Limited to only 150 pieces, the Lo Scienziato – Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Titanio has the classic diameter of 47 mm and it is made of titanium, a material that is not only hypoallergenic and resistant to corrosion but also about 40% lighter than steel. Titanium is impervious to corrosion by salt water or the marine environment and it has exceptional resistance to a wide range of acids, alkalis, natural waters and industrial chemical products.

To reduce the weight the case is made using an innovative technology called Direct Metal Laser Sintering. The process builds up a 3D object layer by layer by means of a fbre optic laser using powdered titanium. The successive layers – each one only 0.02 mm thick – merge together and become completely solid, creating forms which are lower in weight and with a perfectly uniform, even appearance, something impossible to achieve using traditional working methods.

The piece is supplied with an alligator strap, anthracite in colour, which harmonises perfectly with the titanium of the case and movement. The deployante buckle is also made of titanium and it too has the sophisticated skeleton workmanship which marks every part of this remarkable timepiece.

The movement

The P.2005 mechanical movement appears here for the frst time in the P.2005/T version, skeletonised and with titanium bridges and plates.

Thanks to the lower density of this material – about half that of the brass of which these components are normally made – the overall weight of the movement is 35% less than that of the P.2005/S skeletonised version.

The long power reserve of six days is achieved by the three spring barrels connected in series, and the power remaining is shown by a special indicator on the back of the movement. All this fne work of skeletonising enables the fascinating details to be admired, such as the winding and unwinding of the spring inside each barrel, the intricate interconnection of the wheel work and in particular the rotation of the tourbillon cage, which, in the version patented by Panerai, is fundamentally different from the normal arrangement.

When you see that Black Badge on a Rolls-Royce, the connotations are exactly what you might expect – it’s a little darker, a little meaner, and a little more sinister than any Rolls-Royce before.

We Were recently fown to Las Vegas for what could only be described as the best Rolls-Royce experience we’ve ever had. This was a highly exclusive event. The cars we were driving weren’t even showroom models for sale or demo – they were ‘fnished prototypes’, as close as you can get to the fnal product before it actually goes into production. The Rolls-Royce Black Badge will only be seen on the marque’s Wraith and Ghost models, having their own options, transmission and chassis setups, and colour schemes with dark chrome fnishing to the grille, exhausts and other details. Also entirely exclusive to the Black Badge series is the high-gloss black Spirit of Ecstasy on the bonnet, as well as the ‘Unlimited’ infnity logos that can be found embroidered on the leather surfaces of the plush interior.

In addition, there are a series of new carbon-fbre/aluminium combination wheels developed exclusively for the Black Badge series featuring 22 layers of carbon fbre folded to provide 44 layers of strength, with further strength added via the forged aircraft-grade aluminium hub bonded to the rim using titanium fasteners. They look superb.

pattern and metallic sheen to the carbon fbre that is simply stunning. Overall, the effect of the new design direction is to give the Black Badge edition Ghosts and Wraiths a deliciously sinister feel.

This vibe isn’t just limited to the car’s aesthetics. Rolls-Royce engineers have tweaked the hugely powerful 6.6 litre V12 engines to make the Black Badge a little more menacing.

On the Ghost these tweaks have seen power increase by 40hp to 603hp and torque by 60Nm to 840Nm compared to the existing Ghost, and on the Wraith, already the most powerful Rolls-Royce ever created, they’ve added 70Nm of torque to bring it up to a whopping 870Nm.

In addition, upgrades to the 8-speed automatic transmission give the Black Badge an added sense of urgency in how it delivers its power. Press the accelerator gently, and you have your ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ luxury.

Beyond 25% throttle, however, the gearbox revs harder and higher, holding for longer between changes and downshifting sooner under braking to keep the engine speed in that high power band. Throttle response is also increased. To handle the extra muscle, the Black Badges have had their brakes upgraded for more stopping power.

The end result for both models is a car that still boasts hyperbolic levels of luxury and prestige, but with an added sense of menace and power that appeals to the bad boy in all of us. Cruising down the Las Vegas Strip in the Wraith Black Badge, it was almost instinctual to roll down the windows and crank up the AC/DC playing on the car’s powerful 18-speaker stereo system. The Rolls was rolling, heads were turning, camera phones were snapping, and haters were hating - all in a day’s work for a RollsRoyce Black Badge.

What’s special about the treatment rooms at Chi, The Spa is that they are actually within private villas, set in and amongst a quiet oasis. The smells and sounds of the villa are especially soothing and get you right in the mood. Adding to that, the colour scheme speaks to a kind of earthiness that can only bring about a warm and inviting atmosphere. And being the attentive spa that it is, we were given a fresh pot of delicious herbal green leaf tea, imported especially from Thailand.

We chose to indulge in a 60-minute vitality massage combining elements of Swedish and Shiatsu techniques alongside some touches of refexology. Having been given a choice of oils, we opted for a foral lavender (said to stimulate circulation and relieve muscle spasms) with which the therapist went to work, targeting trouble areas with dexterity and recuperative precision. Those unwanted knots were totally banished by the end of the treatment.

By the time our hour was complete, we were practicality dozing off into a sweet slumber. But before going back to reality, we took advantage of the spa’s facilities, including a steam, sauna and ice

room – the latter can really jolt your system back to reality! One of the best ways to further your relaxation however, is just by sitting in the jacuzzi and letting the experience take its course without lifting a fnger.

After a treatment like that, it’s very hard to reintegrate into the world when the place you were just in was supremely better, but Chi, The Spa promises to take you on a beautiful journey to awaken your senses, energise your body and open up your mind to a calmer self.

Ingredients

150g Hammour fsh

litre Fish stock

50g Potato

25g Onion

10g Ginger

g arlic

g reen chilli

15g Dry lemon

g hopped coriander

15g Celery

g Turmeric powder

Fresh lemon juice

g hopped tomato

Salt and pepper to taste

BAPLO FISH S OUP

Directions: Prepare the hammour, and chop into small cubes. Heat a pot with a little olive oil and sautée the chopped ginger, garlic and onion for 10 minutes. Add the cube cut fsh and the vegetables and sautée it for another fve minutes. Add the turmeric powder, chilies and tomatoes, cook until all the fsh and vegetables are well coated with the spices. Add the fsh stock to it and cook it for 30 minutes on a low heat. Take the inside black segments of the dry lemons and add to the soup together with the seasonings and the lemon juice and coriander leaves. Serve hot.

Ingredients

For the moilee sauce:

2g Ginger

3g Garlic

15g Onion

2g Curry leaves

3g Turmeric powder

120ml Coconut milk

10ml Olive oil

Salt & pepper

For the fsh g ing fsh

15g Green peas

1g Olive powder

1g Sea salt

10ml Olive oil

Directions:

For the moilee sauce, heat the oil in a pan and add the julienne ginger and garlic, and then cook for two minutes. Add the sliced onion and curry leaves and cook it for another three minutes, then add the turmeric powder and mix it until well coated with the onion mixture. Add the coconut milk to it and cook on a low heat without letting it rapid boil. Season well and strain the mixture through a fne strainer. Keep aside.

Cook the green peas in boiling water for three minutes and strain, add to ice water to cool it down, and then strain again. Peel off the skin and keep aside.

Sear the fsh on a hot griddle on one side for three minutes on a low fame. Finish it for three more minutes in the oven at 180C.

Pour the moilee sauce on to the plate in a circle and place the fsh on the centre topped with olive powder. Add the green peas on the top of the sauce and garnish with green sakura leaves.

This month we talk to Mohamed Abdulla Al Musallami, a diver from Dubai descended from a family of pearl divers and fshermen. With the ocean is in his blood, he started free diving and spear fshing from an early age, and developed his skills from there.

How did you get into diving and ocean photography?

As a very enthusiastic diver I used to dive every single day in Dubai and the beautiful islands of Abu Dhabi, and on weekends I would go to the magnificent Gulf of Oman where I got to see things that not everyone has a chance to see. Afterwards I would go to my friends and tell them, “I saw a thousand bigeye jacks,” or, “I saw a sun fish!“ or, “A school of golden trevallies swam circles around me, and they were so close I could almost touch them!” Many times they wouldn’t believe me, so that’s when I started saving for my very first underwater camera.

Can you tell us about an experience which stands out in your memory?

A very long time ago I was fishing with my uncle in Oman, and when the fish in the first fishing spot where not cooperating we decided to move to the next one, that’s when we noticed that the anchor was stuck! So my uncle asked me to freedive down to release it. So I jumped in, dived down, released the anchor, looked up and I saw something as big as the 36ft speedboat right above me. Something that was shaped like a shark and was white from the bottom! I stayed put until it passed, then I slowly swam up and noticed the white spots on the back, thank god it’s a whale shark. In a split second my emotions shifted from fear to extreme excitement! I rushed to the boat and yelled “CAMERA” and swam along with the gentle giant.

What advice do you have for anyone who is interested in the ocean?

A lot of people say they love the ocean despite the fact that they are not divers, they love to relax by the beach with the soft white sand and rich blue colour of the water, the hypnotizing sound of the waves putting them to sleep. As magical as it may sound, it’s not even close to how beautiful the ocean really is. Being an ocean lover who does not dive is like someone who enjoys the view of circus tent from the outside; they are missing the fun part!

My advice to everyone is to get to know the real planet earth, everything on the surface is nothing but 21% of the planet, the other 71% of the “real world” is underwater and you can only have access to it if you become a diver.

What is the place you’d most like to dive, but never have?

The Arctic –I know that sounds weird coming from someone who lives in the desert. The challenge of diving in freezing water is so tempting, to be able to do that and photograph the amazing creatures that live their whole lives in this impossible environment is a dream that I hope will come true one day, and that day should be soon as the Arctic is sadly melting because of global warming and will not wait for long.

As the fagship model, the 2016 Kawasaki Jet Ski Ultra 310L boasts impressive specifcations, including the JETSOUND audio system – a frst in personal watercraft, allowing riders to listen to music via the 2x20-watt rated amplifer and 30-watt speakers. There is also a waterproof stowage area for an iPhone or smartphone as your music source, and a USB port to accommodate a memory stick.

The Ultra 310L model has a contoured and scalloped, two-tone, threepassenger seating layout, which sports the industry’s frst heat-resistant cover to help provide comfort in a variety of conditions.

At the heart of this machine is an inline 1,498cc four-cylinder DOHC engine. Derived from Kawasaki’s Ninja Z TM-14R sportbike, this engine has been developed to marine grade standard and power is increased thanks in a large part to the intercooled, roots-type Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger which results in a power output of a whopping 310hp. This kind of power will easily carry three adults

with ease, and also enables the 310 to double as an effective tow sports craft.

The three-blade impeller that is directly driven from the engine provides superb propulsion, powering the watercraft’s deep-V hull and contributing to straight-line tracking and cornering ability.

The Ultra 310LX has industry-leading, 56-gallon storage capacity and a 20.6-gallon fuel tank, which is the largest in its class. It also has separate keys allowing full power operation and Smart Learning Operation, which reduces engine output so less experienced riders can become familiar with the handling and response of the Jet Ski watercraft at a more relaxed pace. The keys are color-coded to help prevent confusion over which setting is in use.

Their Habitat: Near coral reefs and rocky shores, and prefers to live in clear waters.

Diet: Pelagic fsh, crabs, shrimps and molluscs.

general features: Has a long compressed body from both sides covered with tiny scales which are almost invisible, giving the fsh a slicked blue gray colour from the top along with silver specks and several irregular bars on the sides.

Their Habitat: Commonly found near the shoreline or the beach.

Diet: Preys on other fsh, especially pelagic fsh.

5. Local name: Rubian Known as: green tiger prawn

Grows to a maximum length 20cm. general features: Shrimps have a distinctive shape – they have elongated bodies which are typically divided into two major sections, namely the head and the thorax which are fused together forming the cephalothorax. Its second body section is a segmented abdomen. The female species are usually larger than the male, making it easy to distinguish the male from the female. Their Habitat: Shrimps thrive in shallow waters and muddy as well as mangrove areas.

Diet: Algae and invertebrate organisms and plants, small crustaceans and other bacteria that reside in mangroves in shallow water.

Grows to a maximum length 25cm. general features: Long and somewhat compressed body; with its lower jaw extended to resemble a long beak, silver and green colour appear on the top portion of its body, with white and silver on its sides.

Diet: Micronutrients, small fshes, foating green algae, crustaceans and fsh larvae.
