Creating a World of Music. ady Pista is a Canadian singer-songwriterproducer of the Sri Lankan decent. She combines a unique blend of musical styles ranging from dancehall to pop to hard hitting ethnic drum beats. Lady Pista is the performing name of Sumangala Narendrakumar born on November 24th, 1987 in Germany later moving to Toronto, Canada. Growing up in a family that was extremely musical, Lady Pista was exposed to her Sri Lankan roots while balancing urban culture. She started remixing music at the age of 16 experimenting with different sounds that she quickly developed her own unique twist to original records. As her curiosity grew with music she started producing and writing for other artists. It still wasn’t fulfilling and there was

definitely something missing. After steadily gaining popularity throughout 2007 with a rapidly growing Global fan- base, she decided to embark towards creating her own music: singing, producing. On October 16th, 2010 Lady Pista released her debut EP album entitled Ritual. The album was produced by electro/pop record producer Starwalker and co-produced by Lady Pista. Singles including Underground Dancefloor and Step Back gained recognition in the album’s immediate popularity. Her follow up EP entitled No Apologies was released in 2011 with the single Lights, Camera, Action being a hit. Today Lady Pista sets out to expose her creation of music to the world. &M’s new Conscious Exclusive collection shows what can be done with more sustainable materials, using fabrics such as hemp, organic linen and organic leather to create pieces of great individual style. The collection, worn exclusively by actress and humanitarian Olivia Wilde in the campaign, is available in around 200 H&M stores worldwide since April 16, as well as online. This year’s Conscious Exclusive takes inspiration from around the planet, with a focus on the versatility of the dress. An organic linen and silk sleeveless gown with a glamorous shape is printed hand-drawn images of birds. A black cocktail dress is made from Tencel and recycled wool, with an African influence in its embellished rows of recycled sequins. Meanwhile a sleeveless cocktail dress has a print inspired by Japanese ink, and is made from organic hemp, organic silk and organic cotton.
Each piece in the collection is special, whether it’s the bomber jacket made from a Tencel jacquard that’s like the reverse of a jaquard, with threads left purposefully loose, or the organic silk tuxedo blazer that’s slashed to the elbow to create a dramatic effect. The use of more sustainable materials is varied and comprehensive, from the recycled beads on a flapper dress, to the organic leather used for a minimalist leather jacket and the stack-heeled sandals. “I love the Conscious Exclusive collection at H&M, both for the look, and also for its ethics. LUX* BELLE MARE, MAURITIUS By Kelly Hoppen MBE Kelly Hoppen MBE was delighted to collaborate with LUX* Island Resorts to revive and rejuvenate the interiors of the company’s flagship resort on the island of Mauritius, LUX* Belle Mare. The design across the resort takes inspiration from the Island Light concept, which is the signature of all LUX* properties – a lighter, brighter interpretation of luxury. Kelly’s signature neutral palette of white, cream, taupe and beige layered with small punchy accents of bright zingy colours is present throughout, including turquoise, fuchsia, soft yellow, apple green, Chinese red, bright orange and purple. Fabrics – predominantly linens and cottons – complement other beach-inspired textures, such as water like lacquer surfaces,
bleached wood trestle tables and tongueand-groove bathrooms. In-room collateral has been kept to a minimum, allowing Hoppen to place more emphasis on carefully chosen and sourced artwork and objects. Hoppen says her aim is to instil a feeling of sanctuary in the 174 suites and 12 villas: “I know what I want when I go to a hotel, and it is virtually nothing – but everything there has to be clean, simple and pleasurable to the touch. This is a beachside location, so the design had to reflect the same sort of minimalist luxury that Brigitte Bardot made famous in Saint Tropez in the 60s. In fact the more I designed, the more I made it lighter and simpler – my aim was to create an uncluttered ambience to help rebalance the body and soul”.
Kelly has taken this same philosophy throughout the public areas of LUX* Belle Mare too, most notably in the beachside restaurants and bar, which are again themed around white wood furniture, natural linens and vibrant accent shades. Aloo Tikki for Snack Shots, The Potato & The Potato Fe(a)st Aloo Tikki or Potato Cutlets is one of the most popular snack dishes in India. Aloo Tikki comes under a collective group of snack items called ‘Chaat’. In India, street vendors cook hot, spicy and yummy chaat on hot griddles fresh to order. The aroma of the spices invites all on goers whether they are hungry or not. The distinctive, tangible touch of flavor sensed with every spoonful makes one feel blissful. People stand in line and wait for their turn to be served; and when it arrives you have to see them finish it in no time. It’s an art. – Priya Ingredients: 6 – 8 medium size potatoes – red or white 1/2 cup thawed and crushed peas 1 tbsp grated or finely chopped ginger 1 green chili finely chopped some freshly chopped cilantro 1 – 2 tsp red chili powder or as per taste salt to taste 3 – 4 tbsp bread crumbs 1 – 2 tsp garam masala Oil for cooking
Cook the potatoes and mash them well. Mix all the above ingredients in the list. Make small balls of the mixture by placing in between your palms, then press it to flatten a bit. Heat a non-sick pan or iron skillet and drizzle some oil. Place the patti and cook it on medium flame. Once golden brown, flip it to cook on the other side. Add some oil if needed. Mumbai Street Food – Pav Bhaji Pav Bhaji is a dish which is a medley of mashed vegetables and spices served with Pav or Bread. It is mainly considered as a street food in India which is rich is flavor and aroma. One can say that “Who wouldn’t like Pav Bhaji?”. From kids to adults, everyone loves Pav Bhaji and is always a hit with the whole family. It is also a very easy recipe although it looks complex. As long as you have a few necessary ingredients for getting the real bhaji taste it definitely is an easy dish to prepare. I can describe this dish in one line as “aesthetically pleasing Mumbai street food“. The taste of this varies a little bit in every city but the basic ingredients remain the same. – Priya

Wash the vegetables. Cut the potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage and carrots into large pieces and pressure cook them until they are soft enough to be mashed. In the large vessel, add some oil (or butter or ghee if you prefer). Add the garlic and onions and saute. Now add the tomatoes and saute well. Add the pav bhaji masala and saute for just a few more seconds before adding the mashed vegetables. Add salt and mix well. Taste it and adjust it by adding more pav bhaji masala. In the end add the chopped bell pepper and peas. If you are adding fresh peas, add it right after the onions. Squeeze some lime juice. You can also top it with off some butter or ghee. Heat a pan, add butter or ghee and toast the pav for a few seconds until they turn golden brown. Flip and do the same. Serve the bhaji hot with chopped onions, cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice on top of the bhaji with the pav.

Travel food – Aloo Sandwich My husband can eat dishes made of aloo any day, all day. I guess it probably is true for men and kids in general I suppose (no offense to anyone here). Also, when it comes to learning to cook, I have seen my friends learn to cook aloo much quicker than any other vegetable. May be because it is a versatile vegetable and could be used in umpteen number of ways. It is also one of those vegetables which comes in handy when going on trips. Something that is solid enough to keep me full yet a no fuss meal. I make aloo sandwiches which everyone in my family simply love. I remember one time my cousin tasted it and said that he can eat it every single day of his life because he liked it so much. I was very pleased. – Priya Ingredients: Bread slices – as many number of sandwiches you want to make. (I use whole sprouted grain bread for a healthier version) Aloo – again depends on your sandwiches Onions finely chopped Ginger minced well Green chillies finely chopped as per taste Red chili powder as per taste Salt to taste Garam masala for flavor and aroma Cilantro finely chopped Grated carrot (optional)
Boil aloo and mash it well. Mix all the above ingredients to it. Apply butter to one side of a bread and place a couple of spoonful of the aloo mixture. Cover it with another slice of bread. apply butter on the top of the covered bread so that it can toast and get golden brown. Toast it in a sandwich maker. Serve hot as is or with a side of ketchup/cilantro chutney. TIP:You can also spread some cilantro chutney on one side of the bread for extra zing and also some peas along with carrot if you prefer.
