ANÁLISE DA JARDIM O After analyzing the geography of the city, along with the current network of public and road transport, a new subway network was designed. The main structure, two belts, that circumvent the two great massifs of Rio de Janeiro and, where other lines, integration. This network often accompanies bus corridors and train lines, purposely, so that there is an overlap of communication networks, which allows different speeds, different capacities, to meet the needs of different people. This construction would take place over 40 years and provide for revisions over time to suit future demands.

O Jardim Oceânico é um sub-b possui uma ambiência e padrão de resto da região, pois o seu loteam Costa. According to the project line 4 of the subway would be completed for the Rio 2016 Olympics, however it would reach the Alvorada Station, which would be the transhipment Hub for the BRT and the buses. This proposal is feasible, since the depth of Jardim Oceânico station allows the subway tunnel to proceed towards the Alvorada terminal passing below the Marapendi channel. In a network, the hub acts as the centerpiece, which receives and distributes flows. Since the 90’s, Terminal Alvorada has been designated as the best strategic intermodal point, because it is located in a central area of Barra da Tijuca and offers access to the main points of the city. 8

The heights were thought from the study of shade and ventilation between buildings, with the aim of enhancing the view to the natural and built landscape. It is also intended to hybridize and diversify the population of the region. Thus, both activity sectors, such as apartment blocks, ranging from 20m² to 120m² were mixed.

Guapimirim House Architecture Project

19

The client requested a country house, for the weekends, in Guapimirim, but that, in the future, would also be his home. His dream home included many rooms to welcome friends and integrated areas so he could have fun and cook at the same time. The implementation of the house was thought to take advantage of the unevenness of the land, and thus, get a large built area, however, with a low occupancy rate. Thus, if they have resilient spaces outdoors to be enjoyed by the family. As a concept the house intends to propose to the family a disconnection of problems and reconnection with nature. The ground floor has its well established sectorization between social and service in order to make it more functional. The garage is next to the dispensary, so the car is easily unloaded, thus, as the kitchen is integrated into the barbecue, serving you support. This service area also includes the laundry room which has an access to the outside area. The kitchen integrated to the room breaks this sectoral logic. Being also, a social area and of conviviality, so that the residents enjoy this moment with their guests.

20

On the ground floor, there is a block with guest rooms and a large hall that ends with a glass curtain, next to a tear in the ceiling, which allows the entrance of zenithal light. This block moves in the main facade, promoting it dynamism. Highlighted, still, by the brick. The family rooms are located on the first floor, thus maintaining their privacy. Thus, as two offices and a toy library for children. The double suite has two private balconies overlooking the woods and another facing the pool. This second, follows the entire length of the floor, being a private living area to the family. In the block that stands out, the balcony becomes a belvedere for the view of the mountains of Guapimirim. Customers asked for a contemporary yet cozy home that would memory of a traditional house. Therefore, the brick was chosen to constrict with the cement burned on the facade, maintaining the duality between contemporary and traditional. The brick is also present inside the room, following the same logic. The room, which is all glazed when opened, breaks its distinction with the balcony, which has the same floor, thus becoming a large hall.

Taking advantage of the unevenness of the terrain is the sauna block that stands out in the facade, and accompanies the symmetry of the upper deck by the materiality and its glass curtain. This proposes to the sauna, overlooking the pool. In the area of showers, there are cobogos to perform cross ventilation and natural lighting. The pool was implanted in the part that receives more solar radiation, from the ground, throughout the day. This was thought of in three environments so that it is better used. Among these, the race pool that serves the children and to place the sun loungers. An area with a bench so you can talk at ease and put heating. In this way, its use is extended to colder days. In addition, from the deepest pisci, which has infinite border. In the lower area of the terrain can be seen as a waterfall over the garden.

THE WORKSHOP

Rua MarquĂŞs de

SĂŁo Vicente

As part of a summer vacation workshop, the trainees of the model office of architecture presented three proposals of plazas for the campus. One of these, was chosen to be built. The land used to be a parking for three car. From then on, all the students got together and started working together to build the project.

SITUATION PLAN

25

THE COSNTRUCTION The execution of the work was carried out by the students, from the production of the floor, preparation of the terrain, to the assembly of the benches and pergolas. In order to give accessibility to the square and protect pedestrians from vehicular traffic on the Campus, it was necessary to level the floor and install a type of regular pavement, accessible to all.

THE BENCH

THE FLOOR

One of the biggest demands of PUC is for spaces to sit, study, eat and socialize. So we care a lot to not only design a bench, but rather a space where people can interact and feel comfortable. Thus, the bench has several curves, allowing people to sit in different ways. Side by side, facing each other, or using the height difference of the stands. The Bleacher also has a measure that allows people to lie down.

The chosen floor was formed by pieces of concrete with 62.5cm x 62.5cm. In the end, the students produced more than a hundred pieces of concrete floor. Parallel to the manufacture of the floor, a group managed the area, and hit the sand to be able to place the pieces. For a better finish were put tents, separating the paved area from the gardens and the asphalt.

After three months of work the first parklet of PUC was inaugurated. The square is always full of students, employees and teachers, who take ownership of it in many different ways. She has been the scene of several filming of the students of communication and exhibitions of academic works. It is a space used every day to date, have lunch, read and talk. The project was awarded with the first place in the “IAB-RJ 2015 Annual Awards, category of interior architecture, design and urban furniture.

In addition to the support of professors and rectors of PUC-Rio, it has a partnership with the Gênesis Institute, which is one of the best incubators in Latin America. The Junior Company that already has a seat in the Cardinal Leme Building at PUC, has established its second office at the Ínstituto Gêneses. The project, carried out by the company’s architecture team, had as a concept to

establish a more introspective, silent, and concentrated workplace. While the other room, owns it is intended for internal team meetings, creation and group dynamics. The new room also incorporates the meeting room, where guests are welcomed. In this way, the client can already have a greater contact with the work carried out by the company and its consultants. The first place would have its project built at Casa Cor Rio 2017. The briefing required, even if the client was young, with the need to have a space to live and work at the same time. As a client profile, we chose Alvaro Seixas, a young artist from Niteroi, who have been growing and gaining recognition in the plastic arts market. He would have opted for a property in Porto, because of its proximity to Niterói and the city’s cultural centers. He invested in an integrated loft to be beyond a home, but also his studio for the creation and reception of clients and investors. A studio, where the main picture is the urban landscape, source of inspiration for your work. The concept has a focus on what is essential, what can not be left out. Essential for the artist is to work with what he loves. With this in mind, we project a space of rest, contemplation, where the house is a place 38

To take full advantage of the view of the loft, all the main rooms are oriented towards this, taking advantage of natural light. QUÊS RUA MAR

PUC-Rio, in recent years, has greatly increased its number of students. With that, one of the biggest demands of college is space. That’s why we built a new building for the Arts and Design Department to house the entire course administration, new classrooms and spaces for academic events. The basic project was developed at the “Model Architecture and Urbanism Office of PUC-Rio”, by Professor Fernando Betim and trainee Fernanda Zeitoune. At the stage of executive project the project was passed to the office “A + Architecture” and in the implementation phase for the “Abóboda Projects and Work”. As a concept, the basic project proposed to develop an architecture that compose the natural landscape, which is very present in the Campus. Very worried about the issue of environmental comfort, it was thought, a bamboo skin, that would cover all the facades of the building. Thus controlling the penetration of light and heat. However, the incidence of some insects on bamboos was noticed. Therefore, in the phase of the executive project, it was decided to replace the bamboo with a pergola of wood. Thus, even with the exchange of materials, the concept was maintained. The circulation area is well marked in the center of the building, along with vertical circulation and wet areas. Thus, the building is well divided into two large halls. In these, there are classrooms that can be used with the partitions or not.

THE STRUCTURE It was chosen to use the metallic and apparent structure. In the basic design stage, some of the classrooms extended beyond the bamboo skin, thus deconstructing the idea of a hard block. During execution, however, this was only kept in a facade.

H Tower Revitalization 53

The Barra da Tijuca project, launched in 1969, was the first venture for Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio de Janeiro. The Development Engineering, a company of MĂşcio Athayde, would build 76 cylindrical residential towers, 36 floors, designed by Oscar Niemeyer. These would be combined by areas of commerce, leisure and services. Its original schedule provided for the inauguration of the first units in 1974 and the completion of the work for 1980.

TH E ID E A L PL A C E

Barra da Tijuca used to be uncharted territory, but unlike BrasĂlia, the land was divided among multiple private properties, Meaning the the big unification plans designed by LĂşcio Costa, wew optimistic, but a daydream, from the beginning. The failure is clear: an authoritarian Master Plan following the principles established in athens letter. Sectorizes and creates a city formed by urban islands. The plan failed, maily because it took so long to seattle. And it is to this days, in process. Currently, the territory is formedby a drif of large lots that have become the heaven of real estate speculation and where today establishes the largegated communities and shopping centers.

BRING THE CITY INTO THE BUILDING 56

HOW THE BUILDING SHOULD TOUCH THE GROUND ? HOW TO INTEGRATE THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL STREEAT ? HOW TO EXCHANGE THESE SPEEDS ?

With no more bars, Tower H’s becomes a public square. This public space is taken into the building and spreads its range of possibilities to all floors.

PERFECT FORM

THE MACHINE FOR THE IDEAL MAN

FORMED, RIGID AND DEFINED. REFLECT THE URBAN PLANE OF LUCIO COSTA. IMPOSITIVE PLAN THAT MAKES THOSE THAT IN THEM LIVE IN PRISON, RIGID, DEFINED AND LITTLE HUMAN. EFICIENT

ATTEMPT TO DISSOLVE ALL THE PREVIOUS ZONE OF MODERN URBANISM.

The project proposes the redirection of the street to the building, subverting the current logic between public spaces and private spaces. We propose an architecture of multiple possibilities, allowing spaces to be appropriated by users. 58

DESIDEALIZE THE MODERN

VITALIZING THE MODERNIST PARADISE WHICH HAS ALREADY BORN DEAD

The structure of the Tower is composed of three circular rings, which circumvent radially its periphery. In our intervention we modified the shape of the third ring so that the circular form of corridor was deconstructed

Estrutural Structure

We believe that the “void” is also part of the “architecture”. In this way, we design mezzanines and common areas in the pavements, in order to generate, not only, a greater visual permeability, ventilation and illumination, but also, to allow coexistence of the residents. We seek to subvert also the floorplan type in “pizza” section of the original design. In this context, the project has not a “plant type”. Present possibilities but the owner can buy the size of the “batch” you need, and give the function that suits you.

The apartments have been enlarged and have varied forms, avoiding the typology of “pizza section of the original project. The corridors, too, lose their circular shape, giving them more open spaces. The program consists of apartments, suites for tourists, and even small commercial services. These do not have a rigid sectorization, that is, in some pavements they are conjugated.

The hybrid goes beyond the consolidation of activities. It comes as a shock. It is in the relativization and liberation of space that the hybrid is born. 61

SER URBANO Week of Architecture and Urbanism of PUC-Rio

https://www.facebook.com/serurbanopucrio/

The Ser Urbano is a symposium organized by students and for the students. Therefore, it reflects our concerns, seeks to stimulate critical thinking and interdiciplinality, from the debate on themes related to architecture and urbanism, from the perspective of guests from different curricula. After many years without this event in PUC, in 2015, the members of the Academic Center, together with other students, organized to give new life to what is the week of Architecture and Urbanism at PUC-Rio. With the theme “Architecture and Participation”, the lecture series included discussions related to removals, various social housing projects, and building efforts for communities on the margins of society. As a first activity, on a Saturday, a visit was made to the Vila Autódromo community, with the resident and one of the local leaders Mr. Luis, located in Barra da Tijuca next to the future Olympic Park. The event, in addition to lectures and debates, had an exhibition of works by various points of the university. A pavilion was built by the students on the pylons of the Cardial Leme building, with an academic exhibition of works. In addition, the presentation of the research “RioNow”, by teacher Ana Luiza Nobre, together with professor Antônio Senna, with students participation, in the pilotis of the Kenedy building. The research aims at collecting, registering, accompanying and making publicly available projects, works and events related to the ongoing transformations process in Rio de Janeiro since the city was chosen as the venue for the Olympics in October 2009, until December 2016.
