– geboren 1962 in Schymkent, UdSSR (heute Kasachstan). Er ist Autor, Regisseur, ausgebildeter Radiotechniker und arbeitete mehrere Jahre bei Aeroflot, bevor er in Moskau Film studierte. Seither realisierte er vor allem Dokumentarfilme, die für ihre poetischen Bilder bekannt sind, darunter BREAD DAY (1998). 2008 feierte er mit TULPAN (FFC 2008) sein Spielfilmdebüt bei den Internationalen Filmfestspielen von Cannes, wo er den Un Certain Regard Preis gewann. Beim 28. FFC holte er mit seiner Produktion AYKA (2018) den Hauptpreis für den besten Film. – born in 1962 in Shymkent, USSR (today Kazakhstan). He is an author, director, trained radio engineer and has worked for Aeroflot for several years before studying film in Moscow. Since then he has mainly made documentaries which are known for their poetic images, including BREAD DAY (1998). In 2008 he premiered with his feature film debut TULPAN (FFC 2008) at the Cannes International Film Festival, where he won the Un Certain Regard Prize. Luli Bitri first attracted the attention of an international audience in 2009 in Artan Minarollits ALIVE!, where she played the leading role as well as in Bujar Alimanis AMNESTY (2011). Bitri also appears regularly on stage at the Teatri Kombëtar, the National Theatre of Albania. She can be seen in the section SPECTRUM in Maria Lafi‘s feature film debut HOLY BOOM, which is currently experiencing an extremely successful festival tour. – geboren 1976 in Keszthely, Ungarn. In seinem im vergangenen Jahr erschienen Buch „Bécs, Budapest, Hollywood – Ausztria-Magyarország hatása az amerikai filmre“ („Wien, Budapest, Hollywood – Der Einfluss Österreich-Ungarns auf den amerikanischen Film“) analysiert der ungarische Filmhistoriker Péter Muszatics die Erfolgsfaktoren von Österreichern und Ungarn in Hollywood. Daneben arbeitet er seit vielen Jahren als Kurator in den Diensten der Filmkunst. – born in 1976 in Keszthely, Hungary. In his book “Bécs, Budapest, Hollywood – Ausztria-Magyarország hatása az amerikai filmre” (“Vienna, Budapest, Hollywood – Austria-Hungary’s Influence on American Film”), published last year, the Hungarian film historian Péter Muszatics analyses the success factors of Austrians and Hungarians in Hollywood. – geboren 1972 in Belgrad, Jugoslawien (heute Serbien), wo sie Film- und Fernsehregie an der Fakultät für Darstellende Kunst studierte. Als erste Regisseurin in der Geschichte Montenegros hat Marija Perović mittlerweile bei mehr als 350 Produktionen mitgewirkt. Bekannt ist sie für ihre Dramen LOOK AT ME (2008) und PACKING THE MONKEYS, AGAIN! (2004). Außerdem fungiert sie als Präsidentin des Verbandes für Filmschaffende Montenegros, arbeitet als Professorin an der Fakultät der Künste in Cetinje und engagiert sich als Vorstandsvorsitzende des Herceg Novi Film Festival – Montenegro Film Festival. Das FFC zeigt ihr jüngstes Drama BRÜSTE (2018) in der Sektion SPOTLIGHT: MONTENEGRO. – born in 1972 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (today Serbia), where she studied film and television directing at the Faculty of Drama Arts. Bis 1990 arbeitete er als Kameramann im DEFA-Studio für Spielfilme. Seit 1992 drehte er freischaffend in Deutschland und weltweit, u.a. mit den Regisseuren Thomas Heise (MEIN BRUDER WE’LL MEET AGAIN, FFC 2018) und Bernard Stephan. In der Sektion HEIMAT/DOMOWNJA/DOMIZNA war 2015 die halbstündige Doku IN SCHWARZE PUMPE (1991) zu sehen, die er nach dem Mauerfall mit Dieter Chill realisierte. – born in 1953 in Berlin. Until his retirement this year, Peter Badel was a professor as “Cinematographer for Digital Media” at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. It was there that he completed his camera studies until 1981. Until 1990 he worked as director of photography in the DEFA studio for feature films. Since 1992 he has worked as a freelance filmmaker in Germany and worldwide, among others with the directors Thomas Heise (MEIN BRUDER WE‘LL MEET AGAIN, FFC 2018) and Bernard Stephan. In the section HOMELAND/DOMOWNJA/ DOMIZNAthe half hour documentary IN SCHWARZE PUMPE (1991) could be seen in 2015, which he realised with Dieter Chill after the Fall of the Wall.

– arbeitet seit 2010 für das Jugend-Kultur-Zentrum in Skopje, das unterschiedliche kulturelle und künstlerische Projekte und Festivals initiiert und umsetzt: Tanz, Theater, Kino, Galerien, Lesungen, … Unter anderem ist dort auch das Cinedays – Festival of European Film, das größte Filmfestival Nordmazedoniens, angesiedelt, das Arsova bereits seit neun Jahren leitet. Sie ist außerdem für das älteste Theaterfestival des Landes, MOT International Theatre Festival, sowie für das Musikfestival ZDRAVO MLADI! tätig und engagiert sich in verschiedenen Filmprojekten. – has been working since 2010 for the Youth Culture Centre in Skopje, which initiates and implements a wide range of cultural and artistic projects and festivals: dance, theatre, cinema, galleries, readings, ... Among others, the Cinedays – Festival of European Film, the largest film festival in Northern Macedonia, which Arsova has been leading for nine years, is also based in the Youth Culture Centre. Der Film feierte beim internationalen Dokumentarfilmfestival Visions du Réel 2019 in Nyon Weltpremiere. – born in 1987 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Hilal Baydarov first studied computer science before going to the Sarajevo Film Academy to study directing, where he took part in the master‘s programme „film.factory“ led by Béla Tarr. Last year Baydarov was a guest at the 28th FilmFestival Cottbus with his feature film debut HILLS WITHOUT NAMES. Jascha Rust is not only known from TV series like „Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten“ (“Good Times, Bad Times”) or „In aller Freundschaft“ (“In all Friendship”), but also for various other productions. Most recently, he worked with Karoline Herfurth, Hannah Herzsprung and Frederick Lau on the tragicomic action film SWEETHEARTS (2019). He also supports social aid projects, makes music and writes stories. At the 29th FilmFestival Cottbus, Rust is not only a member of the SHORT FILM COMPETITION Jury, but will also present the world premiere of THE FAIRY TALE OF THE 12 MONTHS, which will be shown in the CHILDREN’S FILM section on festival’s Sunday.

Kino für den Nachwuchs und als grenzüberschreitendes Erlebnis: Der in diesem Jahr erstmals internationale Wettbewerb bietet die einmalige Möglichkeit, aktuelle Jugendfilme (neben Langmétrage auch mittellange Arbeiten) aus verschiedenen mittel- und osteuropäischen Produktionsländern zu sehen. Eine trinationale Schülerjury aus Teplice, Zielona Góra und Cottbus entscheidet über den Preisträger, der sich neben dem Preis für den besten Jugendfilm auf 3.000 Euro Preisgeld freuen darf, das von der Lausitz Energie Bergbau sowie Kraftwerg AG (LEAG) gestiftet wird. Cinema for young people as a transnational experience: This competition which is this year for the first time international, offers a unique opportunity to see contemporary youth films, of both feature and medium-length, from various countries of middle and eastern Europe. A trinational jury consisting of pupils from the cities of Teplice, Zielona Góra and Cottbus decide on which of the selected movies is to take home the award “Prize for Best Youth Film” and 3,000 euros in prize money which is donated by Lausitz Energie Bergbau as well as Kraftwerg AG (LEAG).

Der DIALOG-Preis wird seit 2003 an einen Film verliehen, der den interkulturellen Dialog im Sinne der Verständigung zwischen den Kulturen künstlerisch am überzeugendsten gestaltet. Das Auswärtige Amt der Bundesrepublik Deutschland dotiert diesen Preis in Höhe von 3.000 Euro, um Filme auszuzeichnen, die Hoffnung und Zuversicht für eine gute Zukunft in einer gemeinsam gestalteten Welt vermitteln, die für Völkerverständigung und Multikulturalität werben. Since 2003, the DIALOGUE award has gone to a film that finds persuasive artistic means of communicating the importance of intercultural dialogue. The prize money of 3.000 euro is donated by the German Federal Foreign Office with the aim of promoting optimism and confidence in a world mutually shaped by its cultures, and in order to advance international understanding in a multicultural society.

Der mit 3.000 Euro dotierte Preis wird zu gleichen Teilen gestiftet von der Brandenburgischen Technischen Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg und der Filmuniversität Babelsberg „Konrad Wolf“. The FilmFestival Cottbus offers a platform for up-and-coming East European filmmakers to present their debut works, with the jury rewarding what it considers to be the most promising debut of 2018/19. The award money of 3.000 euro is donated in equal parts by the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and the Film University Babelsberg “Konrad Wolf”.

Die FIPRESCI, der internationale Verband der Filmkritik, unterstützt die wertvolle Arbeit, die in Cottbus geleistet wird. Eine Jury der internationalen Kritik wird den besten Film im Programm auszeichnen und dabei vor allem ein junges und neues Kino berücksichtigen. Das Kino im Osten, mit all seiner Vielfalt, braucht unsere Unterstützung nicht nur – es verdient sie auch. The FilmFestival Cottbus has established a considerable profile as a showcase of Eastern European cinema and offers a marvellous possibility to get acquainted with the cinematographies of our neighbours from the East. The International Federation of Film Critics, FIPRESCI wholeheartedly supports the great work done in Cottbus. A jury of international critics will present the FIPRESCI Prize to the best film in the program, and will in particular consider new and young filmmakers. The cinema in the East, in all its diversity, does not only need our support – it highly deserves it.

Seit 1999 vergeben die Internationale Kirchliche Filmorganisation INTERFILM (gegründet 1955) und die Weltorganisation für Katholische Kommunikation SIGNIS (früher OCIC, gegründet 1928 bzw. 2001) die Preise der Ökumenischen Jury. Sie zeichnet Werke aus, die sich durch ihre künstlerische Qualität auszeichnen und eine dem Evangelium entsprechende, menschliche Haltung zum Ausdruck bringen oder zur Auseinandersetzung damit anregen. Die Organisationen wollen das Publikum des FilmFestival Cottbus für spirituelle, gesellschaftliche und soziale Werte und Fragen sensibilisieren.

Since 1999 the International Interchurch Film Organisation INTERFILM (founded 1955) and the World Association for Catholic Organisation SIGNIS (former OCIC, founded 1928 resp. 2001) awards the Ecumenical prize. The jury awards films that stand out due to their artistic quality, that express human attitudes or statements according to the Gospel or prompt a discussion with it. The organisations want to sensitise the spectators of the FilmFestival Cottbus to spiritual and social questions and values.

Die dreiköpfige Jury der FilmSchau, die meist auf besondere Weise mit der Lausitzer Region verbunden ist, vergibt insgesamt zwei Preise an Filmschaffende aus der Nieder- und Oberlausitz: Einen mit 1.500 Euro dotierten Hauptpreis, der von APEX Projekt gestiftet wird, sowie einen von der Stiftung für das sorbische Volk verliehenen Sonderpreis. Das Preisgeld von 1.000 Euro geht an einen Beitrag, der die in der Region beheimatete slawische Minderheit der Sorben/Wenden bzw. die Zweisprachigkeit in der Lausitz thematisiert. Traditionell wird außerdem der Publikumspreis vergeben, der durch Zuschauerabstimmung ermittelt wird. The three-member jury of the FilmShow, which is usually connected with the Lusatian region in a special way, awards a total of two prizes to filmmakers from Lower and Upper Lusatia: a main prize worth 1,500 euros, donated by APEX Projekt, and a special prize awarded by the Foundation for the Sorbian People. The prize money of 1,000 euros goes to a contribution that addresses the Sorbian/Wend Slavic minority of the region or bilingualism in Lusatia. Traditionally, the audience prize is also awarded, which is determined by audience voting.
Der Preis wird zur Förderung des Verleihs eines Films aus dem Cottbuser Festivalprogramm verliehen. Er wird mit bis zu 10.000 Euro dotiert von Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH. Der jährlich zu vergebende Preis geht an einen Film, der für einen Kinoeinsatz besonders geeignet erscheint. Filmkunst unserer osteuropäischen Nachbarn soll damit dem Publikum über das Festival hinaus präsent bleiben und somit die Kinokultur in vielfältiger Weise beleben und bereichern. Die Preisdotierung geht auf Antrag an jene Verleihfirma des Films in Deutschland, welche die Distribution eines Festivalfilms übernimmt. Dazu ist ein schlüssiges Verleihkonzept vorzulegen, auf dessen Basis unter den Bewerbern entschieden wird. The prize is awarded to support the distribution of a film screened at the festival. Donated with up to 10,000 euros by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the annual prize goes to a film deemed especially suitable for theatrical exhibition. The objective is to ensure the post-Festival presence of films made by our Eastern European neighbours, and in this way invigorate, enrich and diversify cinematic culture in Germany. The prize money is furnished on application to the German distributor who handles the release of a film previously shown at FilmFestival Cottbus. The application must include a plausible distribution concept on the basis of which one applicant will be chosen.
FÖRDERPREIS DER GESELLSCHAFT ZUR WAHRNEHMUNG VON FILM- UND FERNSEHRECHTEN (GWFF) PROMOTION PRIZE OF THE GWFF
Die GWFF engagiert sich seit vielen Jahren nicht nur für die (Urheber-) Rechte von Produzenten, Regisseuren und Schauspielern, sondern setzt sich auch für die Nachwuchsförderung im Filmbereich ein. Der im Rahmen des FFC ausgelobte Preis in Höhe von 4.500 Euro, wird auf der Berlinale des folgenden Jahres verliehen und geht in Form eines Stipendiums an einen besonders förderungswürdigen Studierenden einer osteuropäischen Hochschule, um einen Studienaufenthalt in Deutschland zu ermöglichen. For many years, GWFF has not only been committed to the (copy-) rights of producers, directors and actors but also to the promotion of young talents in the film industry. The prize in the amount of 4,500 Euro which is offered within the scope of the FFC is awarded at the Berlinale of the following year and goes in the form of a scholarship to a student of an Eastern European university who is particularly worthy of support in order to enable a study stay in Germany.
