Mayfair unveils spectacular secret garden party in celebration of the King’s Coronation. 6-7 May 2023
London’s iconic Mayfair will be celebrating in style from giant screenings of the Coronation events to immersive experiences across food, drink and entertainment, hosting a party like no other in Grosvenor Square from 6-7 May.
Honouring Mayfair’s incredibly strong links to the Royal Family, London’s iconic neighbourhood will mark the Coronation of King Charles III with a first of its kind, secret garden party right in the heart of London – a celebratory event transforming Grosvenor Square into an enchanting urban garden wonderland with world class entertainment and dining.
From the co-inventor of Coronation Chicken, legendary floral designer Constance Spry, having owned a shop on South Audley Street to Mayfair being home to various Royal Warrant holders such as Purdeys and H.R. Higgins, to the late Queen Elizabeth herself being born in the neighbourhood, it is only fitting that Mayfair will be heralding the King’s Coronation in style. The neighbourhood’s celebratory party will be nothing short of an experience fit for royalty offering a fanciful aesthetic of a beloved garden soiree drawing inspiration from Alice in Wonderland
while celebrating new age opulence across food, shopping and celebration.
Rejoicing in the first Coronation in almost 70 years, this once in a lifetime party will indulge the senses with an assortment of special experiences including Coronation themed cocktails and modern twists on famous Coronation dishes to sample.
The square will also be displaying cinema sized screens and seating throughout, offering an unforgettable location to watch the Coronation ceremony and Windsor concert across both the Saturday and Sunday of the Coronation weekend. The Mayfair Secret Garden Party will kick off Mayfair’s spring and summer of celebrations.

Surrey Hills International Music Festival (formerly Investec International Music Festival) is delighted to announce the programme for its 2023 season.
Each spring, Surrey Hills International Music Festival (SHIMF) brings world-class musicians to perform in beautiful and unique venues across the Surrey Hills. Following 2022’s focus on Vaughan Williams and his Surrey connections, this season’s programme celebrates the wider world of international music-making, from Hollywood jazz to European chamber masterworks and contemporary British choral music.
• World-renowned choral ensemble Tenebrae return to the Festival to perform sacred works by J S Bach and Sir James MacMillan in the glorious Georgian splendour of Holy Trinity Church in Guildford.
• The Julian Bliss Quintet brings Hollywood jazz to the spectacular setting of RHS Garden Wisley’s Hilltop Building, in a programme celebrating some of the greatest tunes to have been used in film from the 1930s to the present day.
• The great Canadian-born cellist Gary Hoffman – ‘one of the music world’s best-kept secrets’* makes a welcome return to perform Mendelssohn, Nin, Brahms and Cassadó alongside SHIMF Artistic Director Wu Qian at The Menuhin Hall.
• The award-winning Sitkovetsky Trio (of which SHIMF Artistic Director and pianist Wu Qian is a founder member) performs chamber
SHIMF’s on-going commitment to supporting young artists continues with two Lunchtime Young Artist Concerts: the first at West Horsley Place featuring the current holders of The Musicians’ Company’s New Elizabethan Award – guitar & soprano/double bass duo Gus McQuade & Eleanor Grant, and guitarist Sasha Savaloni – and the second at St James’ Church in the pictureperfect village of Shere, featuring gifted young students of The Yehudi Menuhin School.
The Sitkovetsky Trio also welcomes two Yehudi Menuhin School students to perform alongside them in Dvorak’s second Piano Quintet as part of 13 May’s Festival Finale programme.
Located in the beautiful Surrey Hills AONB, the Festival invites its audience not only to enjoy the highest calibre of music-making in some
stunning concert venues, but also to enjoy the wider benefits of the local natural landscape with Pilgrims’ Guided Walks in the countryside around West Horsley Place and Shere.
Festival Chairman Julia Pearson comments: “We are delighted to present this new season under the Festival’s founding title, Surrey Hills International Music Festival, celebrating the deep connection we have always had with this beautiful and culturally vibrant area. The Surrey Hills are at the heart of our identity both as an organisation and as a musical community, and we hope that our worldclass 2023 programme will draw music-lovers from far and wide to come and explore this very special place.”
Artistic Director & Festival Co-Founder Wu Qian comments: “I am thrilled we have such a varied programme for 2023, and as always, we have chosen some very special venues especially to suit the music being performed. What better place to hear Elizabethan airs and dances than West Horsley Place where Elizabeth I herself once stayed – and the stunning RHS Hilltop, at the heart of glorious RHS Garden Wisley, is the perfect location for a glamorous evening of Hollywoodinfused jazz! For me personally, it’s always a joy to return to The Yehudi Menuhin School where I studied from the age of 13, as The Menuhin Hall has a wonderfully intimate atmosphere for both performers and audience alike – and there couldn’t be a more beautiful acoustic for Tenebrae’s exquisite choral singing than the airy, serene Holy Trinity Church on Guildford’s historic High Street.”

In recent years, the importance of residential security in London and the home counties has become ever more important, particularly for high-net-worth individuals who are concerned about protecting their families and assets. With the ever-increasing crime rates and a vast increase in targeted, often violent highvalue burglaries and street robberies, it is crucial for homeowners to take proactive steps to enhance their personal and property security.
One of the most effective ways to improve home security is to make your property less appealing to criminals by investing in technical and physical security, such as CCTV, alarms, and lighting. Also, fences, gates, windows, and doors. A 24/7 security guard presence or residential security team is advised should your profile, status, threat and risk require such measures. This is an essential requirement for high-profile business leaders, celebrities, political and royal stock.
In addition to these often-expensive solutions, there are several simple steps that everyone can take to enhance their security. These include making sure you lock doors and gates, close windows when you go out, keep your car keys out of site, and don’t leave ladders or garden

Great Fosters has every reason to celebrate the new year. Just before Christmas the AA awarded the hotel its coveted five star rating. Rated and awarded by the AA’s professional inspectors Great Fosters is one of only 30 five star hotels in England outside London to hold this accolade. Ian Heath, Operations Director commented: ‘We’re thrilled that Great Fosters has been awarded five stars by The AA. This is the culmination of four years of investment in both the property and the team. Major refurbishments have taken place at the hotel since we purchased Great Fosters in 2018 and I am thrilled for Prem Kumar and his team that their passion, dedication and determination to offer our guests the highest standards of hospitality have been rewarded with this rating. It is the best start to 2023 that we could have wished for!’
Great Fosters is steeped in royal history and if you haven’t yet visited it’s the perfect place in which to retreat from Winter. Turn into the drive to see a magnificent Tudor building complete with chimney pots and tower and enter through a traditional wicket door to a warm welcome and a roaring log fire.
The estate has plenty to offer with a new menu that includes some enticing vegan dishes too if you are partaking in Veganuary. We are looking forward to trying the wood fried beetroots with vegan burrata, toasted seeds and pickled walnut. Head Chef Michael Mealey has recently returned to Great Fosters and his new a la carte menu, focussing on good quality local ingredients used creatively, launches this month. The Estate Grill also offers a very good value midweek lunch & supper menu at £29.50 for two courses or £33.50 for three. Or why not book into the newly launched Tudor Pass which now has Alex Payne at the helm? The Tudor Pass offers a superb tasting menu (£120 per person) at lunchtime and in the evening from Wednesday to Saturday; the restaurant is intimate with only seven tables and you’ll find many of the dishes presented at your table by Alex and his team, thus bringing the kitchen into the restaurant (but without the usual noise!).
Afternoon tea at Great Fosters has been a longstanding tradition and with warming log fires a plenty you can enjoy scrumptious sandwiches, light as air scones and dainty patisserie in the cosiest of surroundings.

Easter is coming, and so are the Easter Eggs! Which one will you choose this year? We went along to visit Chris Bachmann at his multi award winning Weybridge Patisserie in the search of the perfect egg. We asked him, “What makes a Bachmanns Egg so special?”
“All our Easter Eggs and Bunnies are handmade with love on the premises. There are a few reasons why I think that our Easter products are the best in the UK. First, we use one of the finest couvertures in the world, sourced from a small manufacturer in Switzerland. It not only eats well on its own, but marries perfectly with other flavours. Not only is the chocolate perfectly tempered and therefore beautifully shiny, but unlike factory made products, the chocolate is poured into the moulds, allowed to set, and then another molten layer of chocolate is added. When this layer sets, it creates a tension or fault line between the layers, which improves the “snap” of the chocolate when eaten. Last, we also hand sculpt our eggs, adding a final exterior textured layer, and by adding chocolate flowers and hand made buttons, each egg becomes an individual work of chocolate art. It is the repeated lamination that makes the eggs break up delicately before melting in the mouth, and that is what truly sets them apart. However, this takes a lot of skill, and we have a great team here under Wayne Harris our head Chef, and our choclatier Dan Ellis.
Filled with either our legendary fresh cream truffles, or packed and encrusted with Crunchy Almond Rochers (baton almonds, macerated in cointreau, toasted with icing sugar over a hot flame, and mixed with melted chocolate and cocoa butter) our Eggs make an exquisite and unique gift for that special someone. We only make and stock our eggs for the three weeks between Mothers Day and Easter- that way we can pack them so that the products are super fresh and tasting their best- you know they haven’t been sitting around on a shelf in a warehouse for months and months.
“In fact, a couple of Easters ago, one lucky lady opened her Bachmanns egg to find a diamond and platinum engagement nestling inside. Bachmanns were asked to pack the ring in its box into a truffle filled 800g dark chocolate egg so the suitor could propose in style on Easter day.
“I must admit, I was quite relieved to get the ring and the egg back to the owner- it was a gorgeous piece of jewellery and I imagine it was extremely expensive. It was quite a compliment that we were trusted to look after it. I am delighted to say that we got a thank you letter from him and his new fiancé the week later”

We love a classic French toile de Jouy, so we have stuck with the ‘pastoral romantic’ genre for this print, although the colourway is far from typical! The slight hint of black mixed through these delicate pastel shades makes this print eminently wearable and provides the perfect undertone for pairing up the perfect outfit. How we perceive ourselves is critical to our confidence and sense of security, especially if we are working on self-improvement and self-esteem. Indeed, one way to accomplish this is to improve what we see on the physical side of ourselves. This is not for the sake of vanity or listening to what others have to say about us. This is about our personal journey to better ourselves. And, because our hair is our crowning glory, what we do with it will undoubtedly play a role in our journey to greater self-acceptance and overall mental health.
At Academy, precision cutting, sophisticated styling, luxurious colour, and great customer service is the norm. Our highly motivated, passionate, and experienced professionals take pride in creating classic and trend led looks, and in delivering outstanding hair and beauty treatments day in day out. “Family Hairdressing, Individual Style,” is the mantra of owners, Franco Capozzi and Salv Mulé, both of whom are that’s unique and individual to everyone. Three of Ukraine’s most prominent designers have shown their latest collections on the final day of London Fashion Week (LFW).
Kseniaschnaider, Paskal and Frolov made their LFW debut at the Old Selfridges Hotel, as Ukrainian Fashion Week has been cancelled due to the war.
At the beginning of the show, a voice on the speakers said: “These collections are and will continue to be a piece of history, symbolic of the resilience and courage of Ukraine and its people.”
On each seat was a description of each designer’s collection, a Ukrainian flag and a QR code for UNITED24 – the official fundraising platform of Ukraine.
Kseniaschnaider – founded by husband and wife team Ksenia and Anton Schnaider – opened the show. The brand is known for its use of denim and commitment to sustainability. The show notes said the collection was “designed during the war and produced under raid sirens in Ukraine”. Despite the circumstances, it was infused “with an air of hope and positivity”.
Denim ran throughout the collection, in edgy pairs of jeans and cut-offs. There were also plenty of sporty elements, including a tailored tracksuit and Adidas trainers. It was given a distinctly Ukrainian feel with the addition of traditional patchworking techniques and models with braids in their hair. Dead stock ties were used throughout the collection, patchworked into blazers and skirts.
According to the show notes, this was a symbol of Ukrainian men no longer needing ties – instead only wearing military uniforms.
Next came Paskal, by designer Julie Paskal, whose collection, called Out of Cocoon, had everything themed around butterflies.
Models wore dresses and skirts in pastel pinks and blues, almost completely covered in delicate, laser-cut butterflies.
It seemed to take inspiration from 90s fashion, with crop tops, slip dresses and visible thong detailing on some outfits.
Frolov closed the show, helmed by designer Ivan Frolov. Frolov has become a celebrity favourite, most recently worn by Beyonce during her first performance in five years at the opening of Atlantis The Royal in Dubai. She donned a see-through pink minidress with silver detailing from the brand. For the autumn/winter collection, the show notes said Frolov was inspired by “reflections of the current events in Ukraine, and the value of Ukrainian cultural heritage”. This collection had the most options for the red carpet, from white tulle gowns with corset detailing to pink power suits. A heart motif ran throughout the outfits, which is described as “the everlasting element of the brand”.
Swarovski crystals embellished many of the outfits, and knitwear featured the Ukrainian fertility symbol, an ear of grain.
The show ended with Ksenia Schnaider, Julie Paskal and Ivan Frolov walking the runway holding the Ukrainian flag with the UNITED24 logo.
After the show, Ukrainian Kate Kadeniuk, who works in PR for Kseniaschnaider, told the PA news agency: “It’s a dream to present our country, our culture, our view of living in the real world in London.”
Kadeniuk wants the show to highlight “our technique, our Ukrainian hand, what we put in our designs”.
This includes the patchwork used by Kseniaschnaider and the corset detailing in the Frolov collection.

Julien Macdonald returned to the London Fashion Week schedule after a three-year hiatus with a celebrity-packed show.
Amanda Holden and her 17-year-old lookalike daughter Lexi were on the front row as the collaboration with Mexican designer Gabriela Gonzalez was unveiled.
Gemma Collins, Despacito singer Luis Fonsi, Strictly Come Dancing stars Aljaž Škorjanec and Janette Manrara, and presenter Ashley Roberts, were among the other celebrities in attendance.
While supermodels Winnie Harlow, Leomie Anderson and Cindy Bruna walked the runway.
The Julien X Gabriela AW23 show was held at the ornate Freemasons’ Hall, central London – the ideal backdrop for a typically glitzy collection.
British model Anderson opened the show in a black sequinned bodysuit with cut out details and exaggerated shoulders – to Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ hit Unholy.
Gothic glamour featured heavily in a collection full of the Welsh designer’s signatures.
It included bodycon silhouettes, bejewelled minidresses, metallic gowns, mesh catsuits and masses of sequins.
There were several draped minidresses reminiscent of the silver one that Macdonald famously created for Paris Hilton’s 21st birthday party.
The London Fashion Week veteran is a go-to designer for red carpets, and his ultra-glamorous dresses have recently been worn by Gisele Bundchen and Bella Hadid.
The 51-year-old has also dressed music icons like Beyonce, Kylie Minogue and Jennifer Lopez. The show was soundtracked by a series of club bangers, including Beyonce’s Break My Soul and the TikTok-famous White Lotus theme tune, Renaissance. Bruna’s strutting in a white feathered minidresses elicited cheers from the audience, as did Harlow’s appearance in a black bodysuit and flowing cape with feather collar.
Harlow closed the show, taking a final turn to Chaka Khan’s I’m Every Woman. Macdonald and Gonzalez joined the trio of top models to take a bow as silver confetti rained down –marking a triumphant return to the London catwalks.

Severe period pain? Pain during sex? Pain when you poo? If these symptoms sound familiar to you then you may have a condition called endometriosis.
On average, a diagnosis takes around 7.5 years from the onset of symptoms, so it’s important for women to understand what endometriosis is and how it might affect them. In this article, expert gynaecologists from King Edward VII’s Hospital in Marylebone explain the condition and potential treatment options.
Endometriosis is a condition that causes tissue from the lining of the womb to migrate to other areas of the pelvic cavity such as the fallopian tubes and ovaries. It can also migrate further to the outside of the bowel and bladder.
This tissue then behaves in the same way as it would inside the womb – it builds up and then breaks down and bleeds. When this tissue bleeds
in the womb, it leaves the body in the form of a period. When it bleeds in other areas of the pelvic cavity, it builds up, forming cysts, scar tissue and inflammation.
Endometriosis affects different women in different ways. Some may have severe endometriosis but not experience any symptoms, whilst other women may only have minimal endometriosis but experience severe symptoms.
The most common presenting symptoms are:
• Severe period pain
• Painful sexual intercourse
• Painful bowel movements
Other symptoms of endometriosis include:
• Pelvic pain
• Ovulation pain
• Back, loin & leg pain
“Some may have severe endometriosis but not experience any symptoms, whilst other women may only have minimal endometriosis but experience severe symptoms”
• Pain on passing urine
• Blood in the urine
• Bleeding from the back passage
• IBS symptoms
• Pain and difficulty during a smear test
• Fatigue
• Low mood
• Difficulty getting pregnant
Endometriosis does not cause heavy periods. However many women with endometriosis have a condition called adenomyosis.
Some women may experience many, or all, of these symptoms, whilst others may experience a small number of them.
If you have any of the symptoms above and you think you may have endometriosis, it’s important to speak to your GP who can begin the process of you getting a diagnosis.
It will help to write down your symptoms and when you get them (in relation to the time of your period) so that you can discuss them properly with your GP. Your GP will ask you some questions about your symptoms and your periods. They may also feel around your abdomen and may perform an internal vaginal examination.
Your specialist may arrange either an internal ultrasound scan or an MRI in the first instance, to help make a diagnosis based on your symptoms and examination findings. Depending on the results (as all surgery as some risks associated with it) the specialist could recommend that you have a surgical procedure called a laparoscopy.
A laparoscopy is the only way to get a definitive diagnosis of endometriosis. Your specialist will be looking for scar tissue and lesions caused by endometriosis within your pelvic cavity.
Although the scarring caused by endometriosis can be surgically removed, there is no cure for the condition, only management. Even after surgery, the condition can still cause symptoms such as painful periods and further scarring may eventually build up. However, optimised surgery combined with appropriate ongoing medical management should help limit the effects of any ongoing symptoms.
Depending on the severity of your symptoms,
there are a few different treatments for managing the symptoms of endometriosis to help improve your quality of life.
Whether or not you’ve had surgery to help you deal with your endometriosis, pain relief can be helpful, especially around the time of your period. This can mean taking non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen from your pharmacy or a drug called mefenamic acid.
Using heat pads or a hot water bottle on your abdomen can also help to relieve pain, along with paracetamol. You may also benefit from hormone manipulation through the oral contraceptive pill, the minipill or a Mirena device..
Some women may be recommended a hysterectomy in conjunction with excising the endometriosis, particularly if you have associated adenomyosis or very severe endometriosis.
The important thing is to know you are not alone in your journey and to reach out to medical professionals if you are in pain.

r Sina Salimi, founder and owner of estetica clinics in Surrey and Berkshire leads his skilled team of professionals, all dedicated to offering the highest levels of dexterous care, as a hugely respected expert in the science and art of facial aesthetics and dentistry. With credentials and qualifications spanning over 20 years he performs a plethora of specialist treatments that rejuvenate, correct and enhance natural beauty.
As one of the most preeminent practitioners in his field, Dr Salimi approaches each of his patients as an individual picture. During every compulsory consultation he mentally configures a treatment plan in order to help each patient authentically celebrate their own individuality through enhancement and bespoke procedures.
His method begins by dividing the face into 3 zones, Upper, Middle and Lower, demarcated by their distinctly differentiating muscular movements, anatomy and dermic layers which in turn are attributed with very different ageing characteristics and decline.
Here the forehead is the superior region and where repetitive muscular movement coupled with photo ageing causes both horizontal and vertical wrinkles. This also brings with it the loss of fat pads creating concavity and temporal hollowness. Dr Salimi case-specifically fine tunes the neuromodulators he injects such as Botox (TM) and Azzalure (TM)
in order to prevent further, unwanted changes and he restores skin laxity and loss of fat pads with dermal fillers of varying volumes and density. He stresses “ these filler treatments require vast and extensive clinical experience, expertise and insurmountable anatomical knowledge because any treatment in the temporal and forehead regions carries the most risk. Therefore it is imperative to choose a reputable clinic and clinician before investing in any of these procedure types”
The eyes are also part of the Upper section and again, for its huge amount of repetitive muscular movement, anti wrinkle injections and fillers are the most common and popular procedures best at rectifying and preventing the orbital socket decline, but only if carried out correctly.
• Eyes
• Nasal Labial Folds
• Lips
• Chin
• Jawline
• Cheek
• Temple
“Here the forehead is the superior region and where repetitive muscular movement coupled with photo ageing causes both horizontal and vertical wrinkles.”
The process of photo ageing in the mid face (comprising the under eyes, cheeks and nose) involves changes in the superficial dermal layer, increase in laxity, fat pad loss, fat pad migration (leading to pre jowls and jowls), and cranial transition and transform- cranial and facial bone being the most important factors as this is the scaffold for the facial landmarks.
Every patient varies in anatomy, lifestyle and age and it is crucial that each one is viewed as an individual via a multi faceted approach and with combination treatments in mind specifically produced for the mid face areas. One size does by no means fit all - again where experience, credentials, medical expertise and knowledge are essential. These treatments (always tailored) include filler, anti wrinkle injections, collagen stimulants and finally the most groundbreaking to date - Endolift - a skin tightening, specialist laser. All need to be carried out with absolute precision and via the correct sub dermal layer.
This area contains the lips, chin, jaw and neck and is possibly the most challenging of areas to treat due to lack of any below structure, fat migration, fat loss and skin laxity increase. As we age we lose facial volume, but we can also develop undesirable changes in particular contours of the facial construct which include not only loss of fat but also increase in fat deposits in certain areas. Without a full facelift these areas have always been extremely challenging to rejuvenate or eliminate. Until now. At estetica clinics in Surrey and Berkshire Dr Salimi treats patients with ground breaking technology by way of minimally invasive medical laser known as Endolift. With his specific skill set he contours jawline, restores skin elasticity by boosting collagen, and dissolves fat in the Mid and Lower face and neck. The results are immediate, long term and with no down time. Additionally the results last for up to 4 years and keep improving for the first few months straight after the procedure. A single procedure.
What is Endolift?
Endolift is a minimally invasive, medical grade, laser treatment which stimulates both deep and superficial layers of the skin to tighten and retract providing lift in the lower face and neck, dissolve fat and stimulate new collagen formation.
Is Endolift painful?
No, we provide a mild, local anaesthetic
When do I start seeing results?
In a word, immediately. Right away you will see a vast improvement in sagging skin, jowls and crepe neck. These will keep in improving for the next 6 months.
How long does it take?
The whole process, including prep, takes about 2 hours.
How long do the results last?
It can vary, in general 2-3 Years .
Is Endolift like threads?
No, it is absolutely nothing like threads, we leave nothing behind, no deposits, no products, nothing. Endolift is a laser that works on the facial construct, eliminating fat and skin laxity all whilst stimulating collagen production.
How many sessions do I need? Just one.

John, who is 69 years of age, cares for his wife Mandy, 61, in their own home whilst she is receiving end-of-life care support from Crossroads Care Surrey.
Whilst our care support worker was attending to Mandy, I asked John to tell me about Mandy’s diagnosis, and how Crossroads Care Surrey supports both Mandy and himself through the most difficult and challenging times anyone must face.
In 2016, Mandy was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at just 54 years of age. It wasn’t long after, that John had to retire to look after Mandy full-time. John has been based at home with Mandy ever since and is determined to keep her at home until the end of her life if he can.
Before Crossroads Care Surrey entered their lives John was struggling to do the simple everyday things that we all take for granted. He expressed feelings of being trapped and restricted by Mandy’s condition.
Crossroads Care Surrey began supporting John and Mandy in January 2020. Initially, at this point, Mandy was still mobile but had lost her speech. The support he was then receiving enabled him to do limited part-time work mainly from home, something his friends saw made a noticeable difference to his personal well-being. John’s
hobbies are music and football, and by having support to look after Mandy, he has been able to see his beloved Brighton & Hove Albion FC play.
Of the support, he is receiving John said “Having the same two carers from Crossroads Care Surrey all the way through is so vital, not just for Mandy but for me and my family as well. Because they are familiar to Mandy and she recognises them she is willing to accept their help and support”.
Whilst I chat with John, Jacqui, one of the two Crossroads Care Surrey carer support workers that visit, is feeding Mandy who is now bedridden. Feeding can take as long as an hour. During her visit, Jacqui washes Mandy and reads to her from her favourite books. Between them, the two carer support workers visit four days a week for a period of 3.5 hours each day.
When I asked John to describe the main benefits of the End-of-Life service Crossroads Care Surrey provides, he replied “One-to-one attention for Mandy and the security and trust between us all”.
If you would like additional support on a selffunded basis, please do reach out to us. We are here for those who care.

Anew arrival to the Swadling Brassware family provides a contemporary twist on classic shower fittings.
Living Copper adds an intriguing extra option alongside more established favourite finishes, such as chrome and brass. Putting copper in the spotlight – instead of its usual role as concealed pipework – the new collection delivers a truly different dimension in colour and tone. Its opulent pinkish hue is at once eye-catching yet understated, transforming the look and feel of any bathroom space.
Living Copper adds instant warmth to a bathroom and works beautifully in both contemporary and traditional bathroom designs. It complements warm pastels and offers a wonderful contrast to cool, light marble surfaces and looks particularly striking against a dark tiled backdrop.
As the name suggests, Living Copper has a living quality that changes and evolves over time, contributing to its unique appearance. The uncoated copper will oxidize into a finish
known as a patina, which protects the metal from corrosion. Each piece of Living Copper reacts uniquely to its environment, ageing gracefully and developing its own character and variations in tone over time.

As technology advances, screens dominate and robots seem like a very imminent possibility, our homes are turning their backs on perfectly precision-made modern designer furniture and back to the simplest and most honest of decoration – the irregular and imperfect.
Contemporary furniture, lighting, rugs and accessories have taken a distinct turn for the uneven, a sidestep from the ‘bring the outdoors in’ trend that has ruled over contemporary home design for the past few years. Geometrically precise these forms are not, instead it’s as if they’ve been drawn by the human hand of nature itself. Expect wobbles, variations, and a distinct lack of straight lines.
Subtly backing up the green colouring, natural materials, and plant patterns currently filling our homes come unbalanced organic shapes, forms that could have evolved out in the garden, woodland or sky, or sea. They have a feel of the stumbled upon rather than the industrial, and if manufacture is alluded to at all, the pieces undoubtedly nod to the individually hand-crafted.
There’s no thought of factories. Every piece gives the impression of a one-off, imbued with love and charming inconsistencies.
This all stems from the natural, of course – the smooth, rounded edges, the bucolic influences, the almost accidental forms. But this modern decorating trend is a nature-inspired design that just so happens to be in your home like it’s been growing there for years overlooked or has been recently discovered behind a wall. Welcome to the completely non-obvious, the almost unseen, the would-have-been-there-anyway-even-if-you-hadn’tnoticed-me school of interiors.

It’s not about being noticed. It’s about the feeling. These asymmetric forms soothe the mind, as unthreatening as a plant, rock or pool of water with their shapes that speak of fresh air and freedom. These are shapes that seem formed by time rather than an intentional hand. The eye breezes over them, gently bumping across those smooth curves, while the mind draws them in and exhales them, the lack of angles, corners and straight edges signalling that it’s time to relax. One irregular piece of furniture tones down a room, calming its angles and pacifying it, while a larger collection creates a spa, away-for-the-weekend feel, forming a space that’s dedicated to tranquillity, health and peace.

It’s an exciting time at Fired Earth. As well as the launch of the new Cobham showroom in Holly Parade, this year also marks the brand’s 40th anniversary.

The company has continued to blaze a trail in the world of interiors ever since, becoming renowned for its beautiful tile collections, as well as for its paints and bathrooms.
Knowledgeable showroom staff are always delighted to talk customers through the best options for their homes, whether it’s a quick room update with a fresh coat of paint or a major renovation.
Fired Earth has an ever-evolving selection of products for every style of home and for a wide range of budgets, and there’s a host of inspiration to be found in-store.
Tile collections include everything from handdecorated wall tiles and gleaming glass mosaics to timeless stone flooring, superbly engineered wood, and exceptionally robust porcelain tiles that can cope with whatever life throws at – or drops on – them.
Bathroom collections include everything from luxurious freestanding baths and showers to
basins, taps and cabinetry in an inspiring array of styles and finishes. Whether your dream bathroom comprises a wet room-style shower with minimalist, pared-back accessories or a show-stopping copper bath set against a backdrop of jewel-like metallic mosaics, Fired Earth has everything you need.
The perfect paint can really tie a scheme together. Fired Earth’s curated collection ranges from versatile, hardworking neutrals through to harmonious pastels and bold accent colours. Inspired by the Bauhaus* avant-garde of the 20th century modernism, influential - from the iconic Mies Van Der Rohe classic armchairs, low lounge chairs and stripped soft furnishings to contemporary spotlighting, the design concept offers a truly compelling futuristic residential abode.
Industrial textures of wood, steel, metal and marble with clean lines, paintings, sculptures, elevate the muted grey, black, brown, and white accent colour palette - whilst a pop of colourful sheers and chrome trimmings, contrasts elegantly well with geometric shapes and modern aesthetics.
Bespoke elements from an exquisite piano and pool table - which transcends into a dining table and staple furniture from master craft makers Knoll and Minotti, wonderfully reflect the luxury innovative living vision, desired by the client.
Abundant natural light with endless large open windows, floods the open floor space, bringing warmth and clarity. Wooden panels divide the living, dining, and kitchen area with a spacious ebb & flow.

The Modern British kitchen collection is designed and manufactured in England. Their entire range is handmade from premium quality hardwoods, grown in Britain, and their designs include previously unseen (and unique to them) storage solutions.
Not surprising then that this company has achieved a Patent Award for its designs!
Designed by award-winning Architects, their range of kitchen styles are ’different by concept’ and offer truly unique details. Working closely with their clients and their advisors, ‘bespoke design’ can be taken to a new level creating furniture of distinction and individuality.
The collection includes the highly individual O’45 Kitchen that provides unique storage solutions by creating unique geometric solutions. The frame is available in a choice of hardwoods including an English Woodlands series. Their signature door and drawer frontals are available in either natural hardwood or a painted finish to a colour of your choice. Through clever design drawers are elevated to the status of ‘work centre’, making food preparation less of a stress and more pleasurable.
The Classic collection is the Modern British take on an in-frame ‘Modern Shaker’ style kitchen. It has the same uncompromising attention to detail and commitment to premium grade natural materials. They provide the same wide range of choices on wood types, colours and materials. At only 52mm, the cabinetry has the smallest plinth on the market, leaving more space inside for storage.
The Horizon collection combines contemporary
handle less design and sleek lines with handcrafted construction, again in sustainably sourced hardwoods of the highest quality. The modernity of the design is softened by the inclusion of hardwood details that introduce a beautiful touch of nature to the design.
Modern British has recognised the desire to extend the kitchen’s influence across the home. They have designed a collection of loose furniture pieces to complement the kitchen including dining tables and chairs, media centres, display cabinets, console tables, credenzas and a host of other accessories to complement your interior design. This extends to bedroom furniture with the same uncompromising commitment to quality design and construction.

Woodpecker is a family-run business with a heritage in the timber industry that goes back three generations.
Founded nearly 50 years ago by Bruce Ker, a skilled craftsman who loved teaching people how to work with wood, the Woodpecker tradition is continued today by his son Nelson and grandson Darwyn.
Since the very beginning, Woodpecker have been passionate about designing and sourcing the finest wooden floors.
Their dedication starts in the forest.
Woodpecker only use responsibly sourced wood with full FSC® or PEFC certifications, selecting the trees before they are felled and paying close attention to how they are sawn, stacked and dried.
As interest soars in ‘wabi sabi style’ – an interior trend celebrating the aesthetic appeal of imperfections – wood floor experts Woodpecker Flooring are embracing natural beauty in all its unfiltered forms.
Woodpecker Flooring’s Berkeley Century Pine is a majestic collection that brings a wealth of character through its thick, traditionally oiled boards. Each board has been hand-worked and boasts undulating ridges and grooves, as well as knots, scrapes and age-blackened bevels and nail holes. It is these imperfections that give Berkeley Century Pine its distinctive finish.
Darwyn Ker, Managing Director of Woodpecker Flooring, said: “The appetite for more natural, slightly imperfect finishes is growing. Homes are very much a reflection of real life and not everything is perfect all of the time. Berkeley Century Pine reflects this in a truly authentic way. These are beautifully imperfect floors with a story to tell.”
Berkeley Century Pine is part Woodpecker Flooring’s Legacy Floor Range; all these boards offer something extra special, from careful handfinishing to extraordinary textures and character.
Consumer interest in wabi sabi style is rising according to research from Pinterest Trends.
Berkeley Century Pine Engineered Wood Flooring is available now from woodpeckerflooring.co.uk priced at £123 per m2
The dry wood is then kilned twice for maximum stability before being machined. Centuries-old hand-finishing techniques - such as lacquering, oiling and antiquing the wood - further enhance its natural beauty.
It’s fair to say, nobody knows or cares more about wood than Woodpecker.
Headquartered in Caerphilly, Woodpecker currently offer over 100 flooring options in real wood, engineered wood and wood design which retail online and at nationwide stockists. For more information:
