NOVEMBER ISSUE 175 14 Screen saviour There’s already the smell of Christmas in the air. Must be the neighbours firing up their woodburning stove. Or the snap, crackle and pop of the cold air, which can only be mellowed with the rush of late, it’s-almost-closing-time shopping. Or the feel-good, huggingly comforting fragrance of apples, sugar, dried fruit and zest mixed together for the mince pies filling. Whenever we think of Christmas and New Year, it’s mostly in terms of food: the table groaning under the weight of a traditional Christmas lunch, stomachs fit to burst but still yearning for the treats that accompany a late afternoon tea, and the goodies that fill our Christmas stocking. However, relationships with food can be complicated. In this issue of FM, we visit Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek, where professionals offer their help to people suffering from eating disorders. We also interview two people who sought treatment at this facility: one of the interviewees weighed 250kg by the time he was 34, and the other lost many of her teeth and her hair fell out. It’s an eye-opener on eating disorders and how we too should offer our support. In this issue of FM, Helena Abela tries out personal shopping in London. Once an exclusive service offered by high-end outlets such as Liberty, Harvey Nichols and Harrods, nowadays the high street is catching up. Even online stores are offering their own version of personal shopping. But is it worth spending money on a service which helps you spend yet more money? This season’s trends are a mixed bag. And that only means one thing – there’s something to suit all wardrobes. From military and embroidered to chunky knits and normcore, we celebrate the hottest trends. We’ll soon be huffing and puffing at the gym, trying to lose those extra kilos gained over the festive period. Stylist Sam Corcoran puts on some workout gear and tells us how to look good while exercising. In this issue of FM, we snap some street fashion on the ski slopes and interview the young and restless of the blogging world. Read on and enjoy.

For Amelia Troubridge, being behind the camera is what saves her and keeps her grounded.

Screen saviour For Amelia Troubridge, being behind the camera is what saves her and keeps her grounded.

NICK CAVE ON SET, 2013

We last interviewed you in 2012. What have you been up to since? I’ve been busy raising my son Maxton, who is now five years old. I’ve also been working on my women book and shooting here there and everywhere. In the past year and a half, I’ve travelled with my camera to Detroit, Scotland, Mexico, Italy, Estonia, Guadeloupe, Spain, Odessa and Bulgaria. You will soon be launching your women book, entitled Joan of Arc Had Style. What stories will it tell? I hope that it will tell a story of courage and strength of the many wonderful women I have met on my journeys. It is also my way of celebrating womanhood by looking at the struggle that has brought women where they are today. The book has taken many twists and turns and I have not been ready to let go of it for a long time. It just wasn’t ready. I have used the book, the edit, and the collaboration with other women on it as a means to ask myself questions about what it means to be a woman in what is still very much a man’s world. At the start of my career, I naturally gravitated towards men and masculinity. However, I’ve wanted to understand and embrace the woman in me: as a mother, wife, the personal goals that I have dreamt about, and the opportunities that come with being able to live a varied and rewarding life full of adventure and wonderful people.

We watched Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan’s The Trip and loved it. Did the two make you laugh when you were shooting them? I’ve worked with Rob and Steve a few times before, on the film A Cock and Bull Story mainly. They are a legendary comic pair and make me laugh a lot. They just don’t stop with their dialogue – you have to shut up and let them roll with it.

“I like being taken out of my comfort zone. That’s how I grow.”

Dominic West gave a great performance in The Hour. What was it like to meet the man behind the great performance? Dominic was amazing to work with. It was a tough day on set and I had to fight for time to get the images I needed from the cast. Also, some actors really don’t want to do the press stuff. But then you get Dominic, who couldn’t have made my job any easier. Nick Cave’s film 20,000 Days takes a look at what makes us who we are. Based on your encounters with him, what makes Nick Cave who he is? I knew little about Nick Cave’s work when I began working with him – I just knew that he was somewhat of a legend. Like most people, I was spellbound by his aura and energy when I met him. He has total loyalty to his creative journey and has wonderful people around him.

NICK CAVE AND RAY WINSTONE ON SET, 2013

From film to writing and music, all Nick’s work touches the hearts and souls of so many. I found it very healing and rewarding being on set – being around good, creative and inspiring people is something I really needed at that time in my life. What I found most inspiring was the way he talked about his wife Suzy. There’s just so much love there. Watching them both together, you can tell that there is so much honesty and trust between them. It’s very rare to see such relationships. Probably we need more self-aware men like Nick on this planet. You lead a peripatetic life. What does travel teach you? Living in London is very rewarding, but it comes with a lot of insanity and stress for everyone. Leaving London often helps me focus on the things that I believe are most important for living a positive and fulfilling life. It helps me to detach and allows my mind to go to a really wonderful place. Since I had my son, I have felt a huge shift around how my actions have a huge impact on the next generation, and passing on the right

lessons to my child. I hope to raise my son with open mindedness and fearlessness, two things which I believe you learn from travelling to roads less travelled. We learn a lot from other people whose lives are so different from yours. And we understand tolerance by accepting that we are not all the same. Travelling inspires me like nothing else. I like being taken out of my comfort zone. That’s how I grow. In a recent interview with Huck magazine, you said that your camera was your saviour. Does it still save you? Most definitely. It keeps me grounded. Being behind the camera is a very comfortable place for me. What do you consider to be the essentials in your life? Creativity, working on the self, yoga, swimming in the sea and having the right people around me. FM

My best friend’s shopping A PERSONAL SHOPPING SERVICE FOR MEN - ENCLOTHED

Helena Abela opens her eyes, and purse, to a new shopping experience. But is personal shopping the right form of retail therapy?

I

THE SELFRIDGES PERSONAL SHOPPING DEPARTMENT

’ve always scoffed at the idea of having a personal shopper for two reasons. The first: how hard can it be to shop? And secondly: when your bank manager calls you up, how do you justify the fact that you’re spending money to get someone to help you spend more money? But that was before I was faced with the dilemma of having to purchase outfits for two very important family weddings. As I envisioned floor length gowns, channelling Pippa Middleton’s rear end, I came to realise that I did not have the foggiest idea where to start. While discussing said first world problem with my friend (who apparently has zero issues justifying her personal shopper bill) she opened my eyes, or rather my purse, to a whole new world of retail therapy. Personal shopping is often associated with yummy mummies or ladies who lunch. As I started my research, I envisioned myself strolling down the street in the manner of Pretty Woman (post-call girl days) with my fashion consultant at my heels carrying a tottering pile of shopping bags and hatboxes.

“Making an appointment with a personal shopper is not only for customers who plan to spend thousands while stroking their pet poodle.” TOPSHOP PERSONAL SHOPPING

18 - FM Issue 175

NATASHA COOTE

NATASHA COOTE’S BOUTIQUE

However, I quickly changed my opinion when I came to realise that having a personal shopper has evolved somewhat and they don’t actually carry your shopping bags. Once an exclusive service provided to the rich and famous by boutiques on King’s Road in Chelsea, designer brands located on Bond’s Street and high-end department stores such as Liberty’s, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and Harrods have now developed into a mainstream amenity that has become accessible to the high-street shopper too. As stores such as Debenhams, House of Fraser and Topshop caught on, I found out that making an appointment with a personal shopper is not only for customers who plan to spend thousands while stroking their pet poodle: in reality I was not required to buy anything at all and in some stores the service is free of charge. Boutique owner and stylist Natasha Coote finds that building that relationship and making her customers feel comfortable is the most important thing. They are not obliged to spend thousands either. “I am much happier if you purchase one item that you love rather than 20 that you felt compelled to buy. You are more likely to return and next time around maybe spend more.” Natasha also offers seasonal home visits to her regulars to carry out a stock take of their wardrobe and build the perfect capsule collection for the upcoming season. Customers who may have moved away from the area are also able to hold Skype consultations with Natasha. From special occasions to rebooting your workwear wardrobe with that perfect black polo neck, a personal shopper is there to lend an ear, offer suggestions and give you an ego boost that takes your retail experience to a whole new level. They will even throw in a coffee and biscuits while you wait, giving you time to post a few obligatory selfies. A consultation may vary between half an hour to three hours depending on the store, where you can discuss what you are looking for and your budget. The stylist would then advice you on colours and cuts that will suit your shape: this is noted down and kept on file to be referred to every time you make an appointment

A bit like a psychologists for the fashion conscious, these fashion shrinks are what differentiates the high street from online shopping, which over the years has taken over retail market share and been the cause for concern of the high street’s dipping sales. However e-tailer giants are working hard to replicate this sort of service. Asos has recently launched a Stylist page, similar to the consultation suites in large department stores, where one-to-one appointments can be carried out. Afterwards you can get a hard copy of the chat to use when you are shopping. And for the man who hates to shop, a new concept has launched that will be the answer to all their prayers. Enclothed is a new menswear clothing site with a difference. Rather than scrolling through thousands of images, you simply input your style, size and requirements to build your profile which the Enclothed stylist uses to pick out items from brands that you like. The package is sent to your home and you have 10 days to try on the pieces and select what you would like to keep and return everything else. After my consultation, as I clicked my way through the site, my hunt for the perfect dresses felt a little less exciting. My personal shopping experience went from being put on a pedestal while munching on some chocolate digestives at Selfridges to being left to my own devices in cyber space. Consequently I bought some new fab trainers but no jaw dropping dress which I was hoping was hidden in the depths my virtual basket upon check out. The social aspect was lost and the experience led me to speed dial my new favourite contact. I was soon whisked into a dressing room and piled high with an array of new dresses to try on. After a few twirls in the mirror I made my choices and skipped out of the store, still carrying my own shopping bags. FM

FAUX FUR COAT

Kira Drury cosies up to coats and sings that pink is her favourite colour.

Coats you need in your wardrobe right now Furry Fashion’s gone faux-fur crazy as seen at Gucci, Prada and Missoni. I’m loving this look for both day and night. Team with denim and knits for a low-key, rock-chick vibe and dress up for night with leather and lace. Rainbow This season’s rails are bursting with eye-dazzling shades, colours so bright they’ll have you reaching for your sunnies. It’s the perfect time to give your wardrobe a colour pop. I’m particularly loving sunshine yellow, electric blue and juicy orange.

PRADA

Blanket My favourite type of trend is one that is both functional and fabulous. Not only are blanket coats super-cozy, but they are as chic as can be: tick, tick! Wear with a belt to cinch-in the waist or open and flowing a la Burberry.

ELYTS

Beauty trend: pretty in pink Pink is a big trend in this current season, both in fashion and beauty. I’m a huge fan of the classic red lip and never leave the house without a slick of my fave’ shade but after seeing the catwalks for A/W14 I’m having a major pink moment. Think bold fuchsia lips or a pale-pink flushed cheek: the perfect winter pick-me-up.

Romeo Beckham for Burberry He made his modelling debut for Burberry last year and Romeo Beckham has now been unveiled as the star of Burberry’s Christmas campaign. As well as starring in the print campaign, he’s also in a short film to promote the brand’s collection. Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s chief creative and chief executive officer, said, “This festive campaign is a celebration of everything we love at Burberry; the trench coat, the cashmere scarf, incredible music, our British weather, and working with great and talented people. It continues to be an utter joy working with Romeo – he has charm, style and great energy! I’m delighted that he’s the lead role in our festive campaign.” A star in the making I’d say.

Pastels or stronger colours? Pastels.

Wide leg trousers or figure hugging leggings? Wide leg trousers, especially in the evening. Who is your favourite shoe or clothes designer? My favourite shoes designer is Jeffrey Campbell.

Wide leg trousers or figure hugging leggings? Wide leg trousers are more comfortable. Bomber jackets are another big trend this season. Will you be getting one? No – they don’t match with my personal style.

Wide leg trousers or figure hugging leggings? I prefer figure hugging leggings or skinny pants. Who is your favourite shoe or clothes designer? I love Jimmy Choo shoes.

Do you wear designer ski gear on the slopes? I’m into Canada Goose which is very in fashion around here at the moment. Do you wear designer ski gear on the slopes? Yes. I love Pucci’s colourful ski gear. Pastels or stronger colours? I love colour in general but I usually prefer bold colours to pastels. Wide leg trousers or figure hugging leggings? Wide leg trousers – it’s nice to have another option to leggings. Bomber jackets are another big trend this season. Will you be getting one? If I find a floral print bomber I will.

Do you wear designer ski gear on the slopes? I do après-ski better. I just got a lovely pair of shearlinglined wedge boots by Isabel Marant.

Pastels or stronger colours? It’s romantic pastels for me.

Wide leg trousers or figure hugging leggings? I can see wide leg trousers working well with a white shirt for a chic, evening look.

Wide leg trousers or figure hugging leggings? Wide leg trousers are great as comfy day wear but can also be elegant with a pair of nice heels. Who is your favourite shoe or clothes designer? I simply love Chanel perfume and accessories.

ork out gear can either go horribly wrong or fantastically right. The great thing about working out in 2014 is that there is a huge crossover from catwalk to treadmill. Sportswear is on trend, again, which makes it so easy to look chic while working out. Cute sportswear isn’t something that we’ve discovered this season: there are brands that have been collaborating on sports collections for years now. Stella McCartney for Adidas is possibly one of the best known. In my opinion, what makes it so popular is that consumers see it as Stella McCartney, but at an Adidas price point. It is however a great collection: traditional sportswear worked over with a contemporary edge and done in a palette of great seasonal colours trimmed with typical Stella flashes of neon. It’s not just the price which makes it such a lucrative product – it’s also the fact that it can be bought almost anywhere. It’s not an exclusive collection that can only be purchased in high-end boutiques – rather, many larger sporting goods stores and most Adidas boutiques carry the collaboration, making it easily accessible. McCartney has paved the way for numerous other designers in the lucrative yet lower price point field of sports gear. The collaboration between Adidas and Rick Owens was received with much praise

upon announcement with his space-aged geometric sneakers selling out nearly immediately. Raf Simons and Yohji Yamamoto also have collections with Adidas – however, while being amazingly stylish, they aren’t quite traditional gym gear. Companies like Sweaty Betty, Lulu Lemon and household names such as Nike, Reebok and so on have specialised in the art of work out gear. Our generations, keen to keep in shape, create a very lucrative market for sports apparel. Alexander Wang would be one of the best examples of work out inspired ready-to-wear, Wang made his name by taking inspiration from the silhouettes of traditional sports gear and has managed to translate it into a brilliant laid back luxe look which has inspired others to embrace it. It seems as though sportswear is a profitable field, with luxury e-tailer Net-A-Porter launching an exclusive edit, cheekily named Net-A-Sporter selling the best of the best in work out gear. What is probably the hardest part about looking stylish while exercising depends on what type of exercise it is that you will be doing. Running, lifting weights and most cardio tend to work against looking stylish. It’s extremely hard to exude stylish confidence while dripping in sweat and with loose strands of hair stuck to your face. Combat this by keeping your clothing dark – the darker the colour, the more it will minimise the appearance of sweat. Caps and headbands are a really chic way of keeping your hair under control, and they are also one of the few ways you can accessorise while working out. The reality of it, in my opinion, is that no matter how designer or how chic it is, it is still work out gear and will always look like work out gear. I feel as thought there are very few places that its acceptable to wear it, which are the gym, while running, jogging and power walking, commuting to and from the gym, and at the supermarket. Other than that, don’t try to turn work out gear into something that it isn’t. FM

oth anorexia and bulimia are very misunderstood, particularly in Malta. Many often assume that for someone to suffer from an eating disorder, one must be either stick thin or obese. However, sufferers may exhibit symptoms of anorexia, bulimia and binge eating simultaneously. Opened earlier this year, Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek is a residential and semi-residential facility that aims to provide holistic treatment for patients with eating disorders and obesity. The centre offers treatment in a protective environment away from a hospital setting. This treatment is provided by a multidisciplinary team made up of nutritionists, dieticians, psychiatrists, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, medical specialists, and educators. Those who attend may stay from around three to five months, depending on the treatment they need. The centre offers in- and outpatient treatment and also serves as a half-way home for residents receiving treatment with a view to be reintegrated into society. The holistic approach also provides family therapy to the relatives and carers of patients. “The objective of the programme of intensive rehabilitation is to begin or continue a course of treatment aimed at interrupting the growth and maintenance factors of the disorder,” says Darleen Zerafa, Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek Foundation secretary. “An important feature of the highly structured treatment programme is that it allows the directing of therapeutic intervention to the specific needs of patients and their family.” Patients are given treatment in a homely environment and are supported throughout the entire duration of the programme. But we will let two patients speak for themselves.

DARLEEN ZERAFA

Learning to live without an eating disorder Sarah*, 24 The past 13 years have been very tough. Living with an eating disorder has taken away many beautiful things from me. My menstruation stopped and I had to be put on pills to get it back at a very young age. I lost many of my teeth due to the constant throwing up – I used to throw up around 10 to 15 times a day. I had to get a loan to get my teeth fixed. My hair fell out, I was depressed and I had suicidal thoughts. I missed out on so many family events and holidays. When I was 12, I became anorexic for a couple of years, then turned to binge eating and for the last four years, have been battling bulimia. People often tell me that I look healthy. Every time someone tells me that, my heart skips a beat. It’s the state of mind that must be taken into consideration and not the size of the body; the constant thoughts and behaviours that keep you trapped in the eating disorder cycle. More often than not, eating disorders are used as coping methods for stressful events that life throws at you. Like many people turn to drugs and alcohol, people who suffer from eating disorders tend to abuse food. As a matter of fact, it is an addiction. I use food as an escape mechanism, a way of dealing with my problems. Any unsettling emotion is an excuse and a trigger for me to binge and make myself throw up. There were many times when I cancelled on friends at the last minute as I just wouldn’t feel comfortable in any of my clothes. I would also lie to my family and friends to plan a binge and throw up right after. I was outgoing and loud when surrounded by people but sad, lonely and miserable when alone. I felt like a prisoner, stuck in a mental state which I would never get out of. As I hit my 20s, I decided to try and focus on a new job and getting

“I used to throw up around 10 to 15 times a day.” out of my eating disorder on my own. My days consisted of hardly eating anything, throwing up the very little food I ate, smoking constantly, followed by two-hour daily gym sessions. In the end, I turned to alcohol and drugs to help my social life. The urge to destruct anything that came into my life was overwhelming. Even relationships would not work out for me. There came a point in my life when I truly thought the only way out would be death, so I decided to put an end to it before it killed me. I have been an inpatient at Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek since July 23, 2014. I’m fully committed to staying here for as long as I need. This place is truly a blessing and is helping me find ways of coping with life’s problems. I’m learning what it is like to create goals and work towards them, to have a daily routine. Above all, I’m learning to nourish my body and take care of it by appreciating food. I’m learning how to exercise without the need to punish my body. I’m learning how to appreciate life itself and my friends and family. But most importantly, I’m learning to appreciate my health. I now realise what damage I’ve caused my body, especially with my stomach ending up almost in a pre-cancerous state and therefore, have to live with certain consequences for many years to come. But above all, I’m learning how to live life without an eating disorder.

HEALTH

Determination keeps me going John*, 34 Every chubby person wishes there was a magic pill to get thinner, but in reality, we can only achieve results by leading an active and healthy life. I have been obese since I was eight. Whenever I felt anxious or angry I binged on food until I was so full that I felt like I was about to explode. Lack of sports also led me to a sedentary lifestyle. I gained so much weight that I could barely manage the very basic chores and standing up was becoming a real feat. I was breathless even at rest and my body was swelling up with water retention. I was 34 and weighed 250kg. That was when I heard about Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek for the first time. I started to cut down on food and by the time I started the eight-week programme, together with another nine residents, I weighted 197kg.

Obesity programme Morbidly obese patients are offered an eight-week residential programme. The aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle. This is done both with the patient and their relatives or carers. During the programme, a professional medical team works on various aspects including nutrition, physical activity and psychological intervention. Therapy is given both on a one-to-one basis and in group sessions.

The figures An NSO survey to which 2,008 respondents participated found that 0.9% were suffering from an eating disorder while 2% had suffered from an eating disorder. About a third of people with eating disorders start young, between the ages of 15 and 19. 57% suffered from binge eating, 34% from anorexia and 13% from bulimia.

“I was 34 and weighed 250kg.” The staff are very professional. Nutritionists explained to us the importance of food, monitored us during cooking sessions, meals and gave us their feedback. Occupational therapists helped us create weekly goals to motivate and believe in ourselves, while physiotherapists joined us during gym sessions assessing us periodically and adjusting our training routine accordingly. I also find my weekly session with the psychologist very fruitful, finding ways of coping with problems that previously led me to binge eat. After a month in the house, I can already see the difference. I spent my weekdays at the residence while I was discharged for the weekend where I joined my family at home. My first weekend back home was different and I plated the food myself, proper portions throughout the day, leaving my family astonished. I learnt how to eat at a slower pace and to enjoy the taste of food. I don’t need to crave food because I can eat anything, as long as I eat sensibly. My determination is what keeps me going and when I go to bed I remind myself that I’m doing this because I love myself and that I’m doing this for myself and no one else. I’m at peace with myself and whatever happens nothing will change that. FM *Names have been changed to protect the identity of the interviewees.

INTERVIEW

The Dutch girl with a French name FM meets the B behind the Biche.

What first brought you to Malta and what kept you here? I first came to Malta due to a past relationship and with a sense of new opportunities, better climate and a better way of life. The reason for staying is obvious too: sun, sea, and the fact that people here have time to appreciate the little things in life since nobody is in a rush. Back in the Netherlands, you worked in fashion. What did you do? Back in the Netherlands I worked as a model and was also responsible for visual merchandising of specific brands and stores. How does the local fashion scene compare to that in the Netherlands and in Europe in general? The local fashion scene, despite improving enormously of late, is still perhaps less edgy and more conservative than back in the Netherlands, and especially compared to other major European cities. Slowly though, people are becoming more and more fashion conscious, more confident and therefore experimenting more which is great. What did your wardrobe look like when you were young? It was pretty much like that of most young girls – as children, we don’t buy or choose our own clothes. And what does it look like now? My wardrobe now is one big mix of styles and influences from boho and bohemian, to comfortable and easy wearing, all the way to chic and dressier clothes for special occasions. I like to put together a lot of styles: I’m pretty open-minded and like to mix and match a lot of styles, perhaps, you could say, creating my own style and identity in the process How did you adapt your wardrobe to Malta? I’ve adapted my wardrobe in the way that naturally everything is more aimed at sunny climates. However, I would say my style has stayed the same. Are you a guerrilla shopper or do you plan your shopping trips carefully? I’m definitely a guerrilla shopper since I like to be spontaneous and go with my mood. However, there will always be that one-off occasion that I need something specific: in which case, I go directly after something planned. What is currently your favourite wardrobe item? Whatever I choose to wear on any given day is my favourite. What will you be wearing this season? I will always stay true to certain favourites such as denim and khaki. As for the rest I guess you will have to follow my blog. FM

MEXX JEANS, €89.95

dmittedly, our winter doesn’t compare with the Arctic variety. And neither does it get as cold as the rest of Europe. However, our humidity does weigh heavily on the scales. And anyway, we cosy up in layers, wool and oversized knits not only because it’s cold outside, but also because it feels good to hug a warm sweater, a chunky knit or a military-inspired coat.

Normcore doesn’t spell the end of trends – rather, it’s a trend in itself. Yes, normcore might be seen as boring – however, that’s the whole point. And anyway, rather than boring, we prefer to call it classic: from beautiful colours such as navy and black to tailored trousers and soft wool jumpers, normcore is all about simple, comfortable and keeping warm.

Oversized knits are this season’s statement wear. There are two advantages to chunky sweaters. First, you can face the harshest of temperatures. And second, you get plenty of hugs. What’s not to like?

LAST WORD

More and lens Kira Drury zooms in on her new adventure, Kiwi Photography.

“I love capturing candid natural shots of people dancing and having a good time.”

What gave you the idea to start Kiwi Photography? I’ve been passionate about photography for years but chose to focus on fashion styling. Just over a year ago I decided to buy a camera and pursue photography. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, they say: I fall in love with photography more and more every day. I mainly do party and event photography, which is probably what I’m most known for. However, I also love shooting kids, because they’re so free and natural. I’ve also just started getting into photojournalism, which I really enjoy, and fashion too. Fashion projects work well: since I’m a stylist, I often shoot and style the same job. It’s kind of like a two-for-one for my clients. What is the atmosphere that you try to capture in your Kiwi photos? I love capturing candid natural shots of people dancing and having a good time. When people look at my pictures I want them to feel like they were actually at the party, to get a sense of the vibe and atmosphere or at the very least wish that they attended because it looked like so much fun. I’m not really a fan of posed shots. For me, photography is all about capturing a moment. I also love shooting people with cool individual styles, incorporating my love of fashion into my work. What camera do you use? A Canon 60D. How do people react to a camera during a party or an event? At the beginning of the night most people are a little camera shy but after a few drinks it’s a different story. I often get lost on the dancefloor – people don’t notice me until they see my flash. That’s just great because I get the natural shots I’m after. Kiwi enables you to attend the hottest parties in town. Fun? Yes, lots of fun. Most weekends I’ll have at least a couple of events and parties to attend. To be honest I do like good party so I’m not complaining. FM
