LINDENWOOD PARK ROSE CREEK GOLF COURSE
Location: Fargo
Location: Fargo Location: Fargo
What makes the street fair so popular with locals?
“It isn’t just a shopping event, it’s a community tradition!” Downtown Community Partnership Executive Director Cindy Graffeo said. “After so many events were canceled in 2020, I believe we all were looking for something to help bring us back together to feel that sense of community.”
What has your team done to continuously improve this event?
“Over the years, we’ve created and expanded the kids’ zone and added things like live music concerts,” Graffeo said. “This last year, we loved having the activation of Broadway Square as part of the Street Fair. We’re working to expand that experience for 2022.”
What do you love most about our community?
“Downtown Fargo is where you can truly feel the personality of Fargo. Retailers are neighbors who care about one another, and there’s always someone you recognize at the coffee shop. We are like a big small town,” she said.

What features of the park do people especially seem to like?
“People enjoy the variety of picnic shelters. It’s filled with all sorts of wooded trails and in the summer the ADA-compliant kayak launch allows a wide variety of users to enjoy the benefits of nonmotorized water sports on the Red River,” Leker said.

Are there any particular services or features at Rose Creek that you wish more people knew about?
“The Legends at Rose Creek began operating our food and beverage services in 2021. The pandemic has been challenging from a staffing situation; however, they have done a fine job of adjusting and servicing all of our season pass holders, guests and corporate golf events,” Cook said.

I am so thrilled. What this tells me is that what I’m writing is connecting with readers. The other four nominees, to be mentioned in their company is an honor in itself. It’s an honor and a privilege to have this platform. It’s gratifying that people see the commitment I have week to week.
What resonates with readers?
We started off the year with lies about an election and an insurrection, and we still have this brutal pandemic. It brings out the emotion in people. Clearly people who don’t like what I have to say are still reading and that’s good too.
Last year you said the win meant a little more because along with positive comments, you got, “so many nasty horrible comments.” Does it feel different this year?
If you’re not careful you can really let the hate mail get you down. Some comments are so touching, so gratifying. There’s a relevance and importance to what I’m writing.

SANDY’S DONUTS
Location: Fargo, West Fargo
Whether you dunk them in coffee or take a bite right out of the box, Sandy’s Donuts have a hold on the sweet tooths of the area.
For the fifth year in a row, readers voted Sandy’s Donuts Best Bakery.
Part of the appeal may be the company’s willingness to bring donuts to your door. After the pandemic took a bite out of business, owner Mark Ostlund decided to offer home deliveries.
And it’s not just Fargo-area homes that get to sink their teeth into the fluffy baked goods; Sandy’s started rolling out over-the-road deliveries, dropping off sweets from Jamestown, N.D., to Fergus Falls and Pelican Rapids, Minn.
As the area’s appetite for donuts and sweet rolls continues to grow, so do Sandy’s operations. In April, Ostlund said he was looking to expand its production space. Sandy’s already makes more than 10,000 donuts a day, so more space just means more of the dozens of different sweets readers love the most.

How does it feel to win Best Moorhead Restaurant again?
“It’s wonderful to know the hard work we’re putting in is appreciated and enjoyed. Thank you for voting us the Best in Moorhead!” Co-owner Anna Weisenburger said.
What’s the most rewarding part of being a favorite community restaurant?
“It sounds pretty cliché, but the secret is love,” Weisenburger said. “We love what we do, and it makes it all worth it knowing our community loves it too. We’re always looking for ways to be involved by supporting community events, local businesses, nonprofits, the arts, youth programs, or simply providing a space for people to gather whenever possible. Our patrons are the reason we’re still here, so we appreciate the opportunity to give back to our community however we can.”

How does it feel to win?
“We are so thankful and humbled to receive the Best Thrift Store award again this year,” Retail Operations Vice President Lisa Olson said. “Our first priority is to raise funds to support the programs for the kids served by the Ranch. Our staff and volunteers work hard and to receive this positive recognition is very appreciated.”
How has the pandemic impacted your organization over the last year?
“Like most businesses, we have felt the laborcrunch. We have had to modify some of our ‘preCovid’ operations, which includes a modification of store/donor hours,” she said. “On a positive note, we have been receiving a large amount of donated items, for which we are truly grateful!”
How can people best help your organization?
“The best way to help our organization is to continue to donate saleable goods and shop in any of our physical store locations or our online shops (Ebay, Poshmark, Etsy, Amazon), so we can continue to support Ranch kids,” Olson said.
