By: Marielle LeendersBefore the break, my club implemented a new rule that requires our members to stay for the presentation. However, they don’t have to stay for another 30 minutes to help each of our committees' planning. We did this because, in some people’s committees, people would just goof around and not try to contribute. Or they would just sit there and talk about something completely different than what was being discussed. This especially was happening in the Public Relations committee which is the one that I’m a part of. Along with the Web Master, we just create flyers and posters to post on our Instagram or website. Usually, the people on our committee will try to help make some stuff. However, there are really only 3-5 people who actually help. Even then some of them don’t always help.
So when we finally implemented that new rule after the break, it was shocking to see how many people left. They signed that they attended the meeting for the Secretary but then left promptly after. It wasn’t just my committee but it seemed like everyone. However, my committee now dropped to two people who were willing to help. This does not include the Webmaster and me.
It felt like a little bit of a wake-up call with how many people left. I think this shows that my club members and I should work hard to get people more interested in being a part of Key Club rather than just using Key Club as a thing to put on documents for College. I haven’t discussed this yet with my fellow officers but I think I should try and bring it up and see what they say. I think it may help us, especially for next year to try and get people excited about Key Club and all that we offer. I don’t want people to be bored with the club and only stick around to say they were in it for the colleges I want people to say they were in it because of the people, the activities, the environment, etc. I want them to come to Key Club excited to work hard and help our community in any way possible.
