SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL GETS A NEW RED CARPET FOR ITS SILVER JUBILEE In cooperation with and under the auspices of the City of Sarajevo and its mayor Abdulah Skaka, the red carpet - a recognizable symbol of one of the most significant European film festivals - will get a new look. The design of the new red carpet, which will traditionally be rolled out in front of the National Theater in Sarajevo to honor filmmakers, artists and filmgoers, combines traditional and modern elements. After an extensive research of traditional Bosnian kilims in the collection of the National Museum of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the creative team of the Sarajevo Film Festival found the inspiration for the design of the festival’s new red carpet in a traditional Sarajevo kilim from 1930. The 25th annual Sarajevo Film Festival will run from August 16-23 under the patronage from UNESCO. 10

INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
ALEN ISLAMOVIĆ
NA MOJIM PLANTAŽAMA
svira tišina i poneki zalutali vjetrić OSIM ŠTO JE IZVRSTAN VOKAL I ODLIČAN MUZIČAR, ALEN JE PORODIČAN ČOVJEK, ALI I USPJEŠAN BIZNISMEN Razgovarala: Samila Ivković
S
S Alenom smo razgovarali o muzici, biznisu, putovanjima, a s posebnom je radošću govorio o svojoj supruzi i neraskidivoj vezi s kćerkama.
pada.
Danas nastupate s Bijelim dugmetom.

INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
Privatno i poslovno, uspješan ste čovjek.
Uvijek ste bili vjerni i privrženi svojoj supruzi i djeci. Šta je tajna za sretnu porodicu? - Porodica je moja oaza mira. Kada sam s puta dolazio nervozan, umoran i s problemima, u kući bi sve nestajalo. Supruga je odgajala kćerke, a i ja sam povremeno uskakao u tu ulogu. Nikad nisam imao grubih
Ispitivanjem zemlje došao sam do
16
Fascinirao me je Dubai! Posebno volim skijanje. Naučio sam obje kćerke skijati, a sad čekam da krenem i unuke učiti.

You Can Hear the Sound of Silence
and a Stray Breeze at My Plantations
APART FROM BEING AN EXCELLENT SINGER AND MUSICIAN, ALEN IS ALSO A FAMILY MAN, AND A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSMAN Interviewed by: Samila Ivković
A
len Islamović has left his mark on the regional music scene with band Divlje Jagode, and subsequently with Bijelo Dugme. Songs like Motori, Šejla, Nasmiješi se...have become cult songs, and for many, Alen is synonymous with rock’n’roll. He is still very active musically, performing with his orchestra and Goran Bregović’s orchestra, and his source of energy are the hazelnut plantations that he runs with his family in his hometown of Bihać. We spoke to Alen about music, business and travel, and he was particularly happy to talk about his wife and his unbreakable bond with his daughters. If you look back, you have had a long and very successful music career. What is the best thing that music has given you throughout all these years that you have been in the business? - All these years I have been doing something I really love. The challenges at work gave me great energy, which I often had to control. This type of work is similar to riding a wild horse. You need to reach the moment when you take the reign and control your destiny, the speed of your success, as well as failure. You needed to be honest, fair and careful not to go into the world of 18
darkness with no return. I met a lot of wonderful people through music and I got to travel all over the world. If I had had to pay for it myself, it would have cost a fortune. Everyone knows that Divlje Jagode had a special place in your life. At this point in time, how do you view the period while you were in this band? - Divlje Jagode were my beginning, a great school where I learned a lot. Leaving your hometown and going into the big wide world and fighting for your spot in former Yugoslavia was no small matter. In big cities you needed to assert your story; as singers, musicians, and even the clothes that we made for ourselves. The lyrics that I wrote then as part of Divlje Jagode were revolutionary for the generations of that time. Three men played like a herd of buffalos, I was the lead singer and bassist, Zele played the guitar and Nasko played the drums. We gave our hearts and our energy!
the year, having concerts on tractor trailers, large stages in cornfields. Wherever people wanted to hear Motori, we would come. I wasn’t in charge of group politics, had I been in charge we’d still be together today, with the best lineup and we would’ve made some money from that music and now we’d be enjoying doing select concerts. However, these are all intertwined destinies and they are hard to untangle. Today you perform with Bijelo Dugme. What is it like working with Goran Bregović? - At the very beginning of our tour, Bregović and I set off alone with an orchestra, and we produced the songs differently. It’s nice to work with Brega, you can only pick up clever and good things from him. He gave me some advice that turned my life around. I love that I’m still working with Goran, there’s no pressure, nervousness, everything goes smoothly.
Today it is very rare to hear the kind of sound that Divlje Jagode used to produce. Why is that the case?
You are a successful man, both privately and in business. What is the recipe for a good balance between the two?
- At that time. it was all honest, there was no fooling around in Divlje Jagode. We would dig for 200 days of

al, lie, mess around, go into streets where you have no business being there. Don’t go exploring the dark, stick to the light. Avoid bad, vulgar people who are troublesome. tails from him, and I am generally a nature lover. My wife inherited a lot of land, and I bought some and we got around 25 000 m2 for plantations, in three locations. They are all near the Una River and they are 3-4 km from the city. By examining the land, I came to know that it was suitable for growing hazelnut and walnut trees. They bear hazelnuts for 80 to 100
You were always faithful and close to your wife and children. What is the secret to a happy family? - Family is my peaceful oasis. When I’d come home from the road nervous, tired, full of problems, it would all go away at home. My wife raised our daughters, and I’d also step in every now and then. I never had harsh words for them. Family is built on trust and respect, and I never did any business moves without first talking to my wife about it.
In your birthplace of Krajina, you have hazelnut plantations. Where does your love of agriculture stem from? - My father was a gardener and farmer. He would graft roses in our garden, so we’d have red, white and pink roses in a single bush, and his tomatoes would get eaten as if they were apples. I picked up those de-

You travel a lot, which countries do you find fascinating? - Australia is strange, America is fascinating with its glamor in everything, Canada is a bit cold, in my opinion. Europe is on the palm of my hand and it is the prettiest continent in the world. I have a lot of nice memories, acquaintances and concerts from all those places. Who do you most love traveling with?
They say that the relationship between fathers and daughters is something really special. Considering that you have two daughters, is this statement accurate? - Yes, our relationship couldn’t be better. A father always wants to look after his girls, even when they are now mothers. We have two grandsons who have made our worlds better, and I’m rooting for more grandchildren, as my wife and I come from large families.

years, it has excellent standing on the market and its price doesn’t fall. For a number of years, it was the desire of my wife and I to leave something behind for our children and grandchildren, and we’ve succeeded in our intent. I planted the most sought out variety, the hazelnuts are coming in, and in several years, we’ll be playing with tons. You can hear the sound of silence and a stray breeze at my plantations, it’s a paradise for the ears and eyes. Apart from hazelnut plantations, have you got any more plans for a private business? - I don’t want anything else. In the
- In the last couple of years, we’ve often gone on trips on cruise ships with our friends. That way, we see the most beautiful cities on the sea, islands, beaches and destinations that would be hard to see from a car or visit by car. I was fascinated by Dubai! We have friends from Slovenia, Serbia, B&H and Croatia, so the 10-12 of us travel regularly. I especially love skiing. I taught both my daughters to ski, and now I’m waiting to also teach my grandsons. I’ve seen such Alpine beauties that I could write a book about them. Do you have any travel plans for the summer? - This summer, I’ll be working. I’ll be promoting my new album Tajno with concerts. Excellent musicians from bands Crvena Jabuka, Zabranjeno Pušenje, Dubioza Kolektiv will be featured... This summer, Bregović also set some time aside for Bijelo Dugme concerts, so we’ll be hanging out a bit. For next year, I’m preparing a very interesting double album, and it’ll be a surprise for all my fans.

SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL 16.8.-23.8.
JUBILARNO 25.
Sarajevo Rock Fest. To obavezno morate doživjeti!
SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL 16.8.-23.8.
JUBILEE 25TH EDITION The story of how Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) was founded traces back to the time of the four-year siege of Sarajevo. Its story began when there were hardly any conditions for it, and it has managed to grow into the biggest film festival in Southeast Europe, which is also known as one of the most significant festivals on the continent. This year, Sarajevo Film Festival is celebrating its jubilee 25th edition, which will be held from August 16-23, under the patronage of the UNESCO, with the motto Sarajevo Mon Amour. As has been the case so far, the festival will offer audiences an insight into the most interesting recent films. For regional authors, it is ideal for the promotion of films and for networking, while it offers young talent the opportunity to learn new things and gain new experiences. The favorite summer event of Sarajevans, and all fans of great entertainment and even better films, has a very important novelty from this year! In cooperation and under the patronage of the City of Sarajevo, the red carpet, a recognizable symbol of one of the most significant European film festivals, will be replaced by a traditional Bosnian carpet. The new red carpet, which will be placed in front of the National Theater in Sarajevo in honor of film authors, artists and the audience, is a fusion of the traditional and modern. After lengthy research of B&H carpets from the collection of the National Museum
of B&H, the creative team of Sarajevo Film Festival was inspired by the elements of a carpet from Sarajevo that dates back to 1930 for its new red carpet. For its 25th birthday, Sarajevo Film Festival will host director Pawel Pawlikowski, who it will honor for his exceptional contribution to film art and the friendship connecting him to Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The great film author will receive the Počasno Srce Sarajeva (Honorary Heart of Sarajevo), and the program Posvećeno (Dedicated) will show a rich retrospective of his works. What will also mark this year’s SFF is the arrival of Nadav Lapid, the recipient of the Golden Bear of this year’s Berlinale, who will be the member of the jury for the Competition Program - Student Film. As part of Sarajevo Film Festival, Summer Lounge will also be held on the Skenderija plateau. This open summer cafe is only open during Sarajevo Film Festival, and each evening there will be performances by local, regional, as well as world-famous DJs. In addition, during SFF, the 8th Sarajevo Rock Fest will take place. It will be held at Underground Club, from August 16-24. During Sarajevo Film Festival, the city gets a completely different dimension and its streets are filled with festival magic. This is something you must experience!

INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
SANJIN PEHLIVANOVIĆ
Bh. čudo od djeteta NAJBOLJI IGRAČ BILIJARA U BOSNI I HERCEGOVINI NEZAUSTAVLJIVO OBARA REKORDE I OSVAJA MEDALJE Razgovarala: Samila Ivković 28
S
Taj put naglašavam, jer zaista mnogo putujem i nekada mi to postaje tegobno.
Sve svoje uspjehe pripisujem njima. Imate potpisan sponzorski ugovor u Kini.
INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
Kada sam prvi put, kao desetogodišnjak, probao udarati kugle, igra me jako privukla.
Hobi mi je gledanje filmova i slušanje muzike, to me opušta. Vanredno pohađate Petu Gimnaziju u Sarajevu i treći ste razred. Kakvi su Vam planovi za dalje? - Nastojim da ispite polažem u roku, mada moram priznati da jedva uspijevam. U školi imaju razumijevanja i neizmjerno sam im zahvalan.

B&H Miracle Child THE BEST BILLIARDS PLAYER IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA IS UNSTOPPABLE IN BREAKING RECORDS AND WINNING MEDALS Interviewed by: Samila Ivković
S
anjin Pehlivanović has been referred to as a miracle child for a while now. As a tenyear-old, he started playing billiards, and today he is winning at the world level. The records that he is unstoppable in beating best reflect his success. This eighteen-yearold Sarajevan was the runner-up of the state in the senior category of the 9-Ball Championship when he was 11, which is fascinating and simply amazing in sports. He is the youngest European champion in the history of billiards, has the greatest number of titles as a junior European champion, is a world champion, and at the age of 16, he was declared the best young player of Europe. Proof that he is not stopping with great results lies in the fact that just several days ago, he won his 8th title as junior champion of Europe. - I’m very happy about winning the title. It’s a pleasure to win any kind of tournament, especially one as big as this and as significant for my career as a player. I must admit that along with my first title, this one was the hardest to win, because the competition was really strong. When did you start playing billiards and who recognized your talent? - When, as a ten-year-old, I tried to play billiards for the first time, I was really attracted to the game. INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
When, as a tenyear-old, I tried to play billiards for the first time, I was really attracted to the game. As was the case then, it is my life now and I don’t know what else I would do in life if that privilege was taken away from me don’t know what else I would do in life if that privilege was taken away from me. My manager, Mr. Ramiz Turulja, recognized my talent, and he was really the main instigator and support without whom it would have been impossible to achieve all these results. Of course, there is also my father, who is an exceptional billiards coach. Many say that he is one of the best coaches in the Balkans, and I can say with certainty that he is the best. How much effort and work on yourself does it take to achieve the kind of results that you have had? - For those who don’t play billiards, it might be a bit odd when I say that my trainings consist of trainings at the billiards table and daily training at the gym, where I try to stay fit, which is required for the game. I train every day, except when I’m traveling to a competition. I’m emphasizing these trips, as I really travel a lot and sometimes it gets hard. You have already beaten legends of this sport, like the champion Ralf Souquet. Is there a particular person you’d like to have as your opponent? - Like every child, I had my idol in
32
this sport. Mine was the greatest of all time, Ralf Souquet from Germany. At the age of 9, I was sitting in his lap admiring him, and at the age of 15, I beat him in Tirana at the Euro Tour. It was interesting what went on in the little head of a fifteen-year-old in the fight to beat his idol. It was a great experience for me, and things are different now. I play all over the world with the greatest world players, it doesn’t matter who my opponent is. It’s only important that I do my best. There must be a team behind such a successful child, that organizes everything. Who has been your greatest support for all these years? - My father Senad, my manager Ramiz and I are a team, where my main role is no more important than these two side roles. In this individual sport, a player has no chance of becoming a champion if he doesn’t have his team. My team is small and missing a few people, but I can say with certainty that it is the best. That’s not at all immodest and boastful. I attribute all my success to them. What they had to go through with my boyish ways, and how we managed to turn a child’s brain into
a great fighter on the field, is something only they know. You have signed a sponsorship agreement in China. How did this happen and how often do you go there? - At one of the competitions, the Chinese recognized my talent and saw that I could be the representative of a game called Chinese eightball. That is one of the hardest disciplines in billiards, and I play that game in a very attractive manner, so sometimes I have the feeling that people go crazy when they see some of my antics. The organization of all events is led by a company called Joy, which is a leading company in the production of billiards tables, and they offered me a contract whereby I would need to be in China for at least a year, and they would provide the best trainers for that discipline and try to make me a superstar. After my first trips to China, my diet became a big problem. I lost 13 kilos in 9 days and my immune system was weakened. I couldn’t get used to Chinese cuisine, so my manager decided to reformulate my contract so that I must compete at least three times in one competitive season in China, and our partners were also
happy with that. The food situation is changing, as I am slowly getting used to it. This thing with food might seem funny, but every move in billiards has its operations and nothing can be done without concentration, which requires a good diet. China is interesting and it is very flattering when people see you as a star. I don’t doubt that you have met a lot of peers from different continents through billiards. Are there any friendships that still last today? - I have traveled throughout the world through billiards competitions, and met a lot of friends across the globe. That is what is most valuable with people, as I was taught that a person is wealthy in the sense of how many friends they have. In that context, I’m a zillionaire and that makes me very happy. I have met a lot of cultures across the wor-
ld and that helped me understand what the term life really means. When you see everything, you realize that health and friendship are the most important, and that everything else is transient. How do you organize your time for fun and socializing, with all the competitions and trainings? -Of course, as is the case with my peers, I’m interested in a lot of things and I try to be trendy, but as much as my time allows me. To be honest, I don’t have a lot of time. I travel a lot, and when I come home for a short time, I want it all, primarily to see my family and friends, and at that time I have to do my trainings first. Sometimes I get really tired, but I’m very aware of the path I’ve chosen. My hobbies are watching movies and listening to music, that relaxes me.
You are a year 11 student at Peta Gimnazija (Fifth Gymnasium) in Sarajevo via distance learning. What are your plans for the future? - I try to do my exams on time, although I have to admit I’m barely making it. They have understanding at the school, and I’m very grateful for that. I hope that after high school I’ll continue my education, but when it comes to any long-term plans, it’s very hard to decide anything. The situation for young people is very unfortunate and I sincerely hope that it will get better. I have been thinking about continuing my life somewhere else, as I have already experienced a lot of injustice at various awards ceremonies. I have had and I continue to have invitations from other countries to perform for their national teams, but I can’t do that as I really love my country.

IZVOR RIJEKE MILJACKE/ THE SOURCE OF MILJACKA RIVER
Skriveni biser nadomak Sarajeva
Hidden Pearl near Sarajevo Fotografije/Photographs: Adnan Bubalo

PREDSTAVLJAMO / INTRODUCING
N
T
he shortest river with the most bridges, as many describe it, Miljacka is mentioned in numerous literary works, and is also mentioned in many songs. Running under around 20 bridges, Miljacka River represents one of the symbols of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is 35.9 kilometers long, and it runs through Sarajevo for the most part. When it comes to the part of the river that runs from the city towards Bentbaša, it seems that little is known about it.
THE SPOT WHERE TWO RIVERS MEET Few citizens of B&H, tourists, and even Sarajevans know that it was formed by the joining of Paljanska Miljacka under Jahorina and Mokranjska Miljacka under Romanija. Several kilometers east of Sarajevo in the village of Dovlići, these two rivers join to form one river - Miljacka.
Do izvora treba pješačiti neuređenim terenom, no to ne umanjuje vrijednost ovom skrivenom biseru nadomak Sarajeva. Uz malo ulaganja i truda ovo mjesto bi moglo postati prava turistička atrakcija!
It springs from several aquifers, which are mostly formed through the accumulation of surface water, which runs through the cracks of the limestone terrain of Ravna Planina. It runs for around 6 km through the canyon, piercing with mighty “mountain” power through steep, rocky, mountain branches, at times wide, sometimes narrow, then higher, then again lower through the canyon, all the way to Sarajevo and further along towards Bosna River. Its main source is located at Ravna Planina, twenty kilometers from Sarajevo, and three kilometers from Pale. Rich in drinking water, lined with tuff and moss, the source comes in the prettiest of shapes. It is situated under the walls of the old fortification of Gradina Pavlovića, and consists of a number of larger and smaller waterfalls.
THE SHADE OF THE CONIFEROUS FOREST In the spot where in cooler days there is abundant water, during summer there is only a thin stream, which does not detract from the beauty of this pearl of untouched nature. The positive thing about visiting this place in warmer days is that you can walk along the entire riverbed and access parts of the river which you would not be able to do in periods when there is more water. The fresh air and the shade of the coniferous forest is what attracts many nature lovers. It is the ideal place to get away from everyday city bustle, where you can freshen up and relax completely. What attracts the attention of visitors is also the national monument Hadžišabanovića Vila, and the vicinity of Olympic beauty Jahorina, as well as the remnants of the famous part of the old railroad Sarajevo-Užice. Visitors are also thrilled by the view of the Pale basin, and the surroundings are ideal for a nice outing, a barbecue, sports and recreation. Near the source of the river, there are several restaurants, where freshly caught fish is served at your request, and there are also restaurants where you can order food prepared from ingredients which have been grown or bred by the owners of the restaurants. Even though the source of the Miljacka River is a place that fascinates nature lovers upon their first visit, this is a resource that is not used adequately. In order to get to it, you need to walk along unmaintained terrain, but this does not take away from the value of this hidden pearl near Sarajevo. With a bit of investment and effort, this place could become a real tourist attraction! 39

BOSNA I HERCEGOVINA / BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
1. Grad s bogatom historijom
1. A city with a rich history
For all those who love history, a visit to the City on a Grain of Salt, as Tuzla is also referred to, is an excellent choice! The deposit of salt determined the fate of this city, which nestled on the tame mountain slopes of Majevica. In the beginning, it was a lake-dwelling settlement from the Neolithic (last division of the Stone Age), and through prehistoric and historic times there was life here, making Tuzla one of the oldest settlements in Europe with a continuity of living. Today, this is a city where you will be greeted by lovely hosts who are hospitable unlike anyone you have met before, and the city will delight you with numerous tourist attractions, rich cultural sights and entertainment.
2. Pannonian Lakes A salt oasis and unique place for swimming and relaxation during hot summer days, the only place like it in Europe is right here in Tuzla. A combination of natural resources, human ideas and hands, created a complex of salt lakes where the water contains minerals, and as such will have a healing effect on your body. Within the complex, which has been visited by 4 million tourists over the last 16 years, you can also visit the Arheološki Park- neolitsko sojeničko naselje and Geološki Muzej (Archaeological Park – the Neolithic lake-dwelling settlement and the Geological Museum). Due to the construction of the Pannonian Lakes, the City of Tuzla was awarded with the greatest accolade of the United Nations Word Tourism Organization (2012 UNWTO ULYSSES AWARD) for the project Valorization of Natural Heritage – Pannonian Salt Lakes in Tuzla, which is awarded for innovations in the field of tourism.
3. Sports and recreation at Slana Banja (Salt Spa) The complex of the Pannonian Lakes continues onto the sports and recreation complex of Slana Banja (Salt Spa), which is one of the most spacious and well-maintained central parks in B&H. Apart from hiking and running trails, it also consists of a complex of tennis courts, futsal and basketball courts, and memorials for heroes and victims of World War II, and the defenders from the war of 1992-1995, and the civilian victims of the war, i.e. the Tuzla youth that were killed at the Kapija on May 25 ,1995. Within the Slana Banja (Salt Spa) there is also the Kuća Plamena Mira (House of the Flame of Peace), which is intended for young people and activities related to their creative initiatives and ideas.
4. Kapija, simbol grada
4. Kapija, the symbol of the city
The Kapija square represents one of the most significant symbols of Tuzla. On May 25, 1995 a terrible massacre occurred here, where as a result of shelling 71 people were killed, and over 150 were wounded. In memory of the victims of the massacre, there is a memorial plaque at Kapija with the following verses of Mak Dizdar “You do not live here just for the sake of living, you do not live here in order to die, here you also die in order to live”.

e are used to the fast pace of life, luxury and comfort, relaxation along with music and a drink, but we have forgotten the power of nature and villages. You need to experience such joy! Eager for such an experience, towards the end of June, we visited some interesting B&H villages at the invitation of the Udruženje za Razvoj Ruralnog Turizma Alterural (Association for the Development of Rural Tourism Alterural). We would like to share a snippet of the rural idyll and tourist offer from the region of Kreševo, Vareš and Prokoško Jezero (Lake). Our first destination was Kreševo and the village of Vranci. We highly recommend that you have a break next to the murmur of Vranački Potok (Stream) and taste some local goat cheese. Specific to this region, 52
which is rich in ore and the blacksmith craft, is the tradition of egg shoeing, which has been nurtured for centuries and symbolizes the maturity of an apprentice and his becoming a master of the blacksmith craft. This also meant he was mature enough to marry, so when you saw a shod egg on the window of a house, it meant that there was a capable blacksmith there ready for starting a family. In the village of Vranci, there are houses with authentic architecture, that seem like decorations for the Vranački Potok (Stream), which has a murmur that relaxes and brings joy to the locals and visitors. Kreševo and Vranci are places rich in ore and minerals, and the famous Citrine, known as the good mood crystal.
A RURAL LUNCH To complete your excursion to Kreševo, you can have a good rural lun-
ch in the Tuka household in the village of Lužine and taste the traditional dish of Maglice in its full flavor, which will warm your palate if you are a fan of pastries, dairy products and garlic. You can purchase local fullfat cheese, which you will not be able to resist, from farmer Eco Iva near Fojnica, prepared according to the recipe of his ancestors. Nearby, there is also a place called Vareš, where the nature, friendly locals, clear air, pleasant climate, and especially the healthy locally sourced food will make your stay complete. A visit to the surrounding villages of Strice and Zaruđe are relaxation for the soul and body after the city heat, a return to nature and inner peace. For those who are physically more active, we recommend hiking along the Via Dinarica or bike riding along the Zvjezdane Staze, which stretch out across the untouched mounta-
ins that surround Vareš. You can seek relaxation and a place to stay overnight in the rural household of Gajina Kuća (House) and experience rural tourism in the true sense of those words. You can expect peace, greenery and a traditional interior, which will win you over with its modesty, made with a lot of love with rough villagers’ hands. Tame, clean, authentic villages of Strica and Zaruđe are an agricultural area, which can boast of producing top-quality meat, as well as homemade cheese. You will be won over by Vareš cheese, which is mild with a full The rural cuisine of B&H is flavor, fresh or smoked, irresistible for cheese lovers. The rural cuisine best categorized as „from of B&H is best categorized as „from the field to the table“, this field to the table“, this is food that is food that must be tasted, the must be tasted, and we must boast and we must boast with with a full mouth about the cheeses that Bosnia has. a full mouth about the

In the vicinity of Vareš is Oćevija, a village of blacksmiths, with a traditional smithy, known as kovački Majdani. This is the only place in Europe where the traditional way of producing pans, baking bells, hoes, horseshoes and other useful products is still nurtured, made exclusively by the hardworking hands of blacksmiths, with a large water-powered hammer, and heated at the high temperature of coal, as it used to be done for hundreds of years in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These authentic B&H products are made of black tin and they have no expiry date, and they have made their way to Australia, Switzerland and other countries.
PROKOŠKO JEZERO (LAKE) On summer days, Prokoško Jezero (Lake) is the ideal place for those who love mountain lakes where time stands still, and peace prevails. The view of the lake is a sight for sore eyes, and the clear mountain air will re-energize you. The pleasant climate, silence and occasional bleating of sheep is therapeutic, after the heat and asphalt of the city. The mountain cottages next to the lake, known as katuni are not an everyday sight, which reminds us that modesty and spending time in nature are the proper treatment for rushing and everyday stress. Prokoško Jezero (Lake) needs to be experienced in the morning silence and the morning Sun, which will gently warm you and make you the promise of a perfect day. The overall experience of the lake is a blessing that needs to be cherished and preserved from the negative effects of mankind. We recommend that you get to know the real soul of Bosnia and Herzegovina through its villages. 53

U
Sve do 2. augusta 1992. godine.

The fragments were preserved for years, and good people were persistent while looking for a way for Aladža to be restored. The first stone was rebuilt into the wall of Aladža in December 2014.

70 years ago, the Aladža Mosque was constructed in the natural surroundings of the town on the banks of the Drina River, with the power of human hands and the noble soul of Hasan Nazir. This gem of architectural heritage in Foča is known as a former masterpiece of Islamic architecture, and it was designed by a close associate of the main Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan.
FRAGMENTS PRESERVED FOR YEARS Due to its architecture, construction, engraved and painted geometrical and floral decorations, it was also known as Šarena (Colorful) Mosque. The painted ornamentation is of a classical Ottoman architectural style, and as it was the first mosque of its kind in the country, its design was emulated by many others which were built at a later time. The value of this mosque is reflected in the fact that it was listed as cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The beauty of the Aladža Mosque would delight many of its visitors, including the famous Ottoman travel writer Evliya Celebi, who visited Foča in 1664, a little over a century after the mosque was erected. On that occasion, enchanted by the beauty of this structure, at the entrance to the
AUTHENTIC RESTORATION The restoration was conducted in such a way so as to be as authentic as possible, based on drawings which date back to the time when the mosque was built. Next to the mosque, proudly stands a 36-meter minaret again, and at the top of it, there is decoration with three balls. Within the complex, a museum was also built, as well as an apartment for the imam, a fountain and turbeh, and as part of the works on the exterior, the restoration of the existing graves, which are located within the complex, was conducted. For the interior decoration of the mosque golden notebooks, i.e. golden leaves were used, in the same manner that Aladža was originally painted in. A team from Istanbul also worked on the painting of the restored Aladža. A part of the decoration around the window of the mosque was left in its original state and it serves as one of the reminders of the history of this temple, significant not just for believers in the Foča region, but for all of B&H. To the joy of numerous believers and other well-meaning people, Aladža Mosque has risen from the ashes and shone in May this year, on the 470th anniversary of its construction. The restoration of Aladža is an expression of faith that good triumphs over evil! 61

Svakodnevno pored rijeke neobične ljepote zastaju brojni putnici namjernici i čude se njenom izgledu, uživaju u fotografisanju i posmatranju okonih planina Želvodić i Malovan, gdje i izvire.

ujica River runs through Duvanjsko Polje and it is one of the most meandrous rivers in the world. The region where the settlement of Šujica is located, where this river of the same name is located, was strategically significant in ancient times, as this is where the path from Salona (today’s city of Solin) led towards the inner parts of Dalmatia. Even today, this is where the paths towards Kupres, Livno and Tomislavgrad cross. Each day, many travelers stop next to the unusually pretty river and marvel at its appearance, enjoying taking photographs and observing the surrounding mountains Želvodić and Malovan, where its source is located. The Galečki Most (Bridge) arches across the river; it is believed to have been built 2000 years ago. For all fans of natural phenomena, this is a must-see destination!

Pješčane piramide
P
P
Sand Pyramids
yramids that are over 200 years old, in the village of Dančići in Pirni Do, next to the old path that used to connect Foča and Sarajevo, only aroused the interest of B&H citizens, as well as tourists, a couple of years ago. The sand columns arise from their wide foundations and they become narrow towards the top, and in this way, they are an exceptional geomorphological rarity in this region. The process of erosion is ongoing, and contrary to expectations, the pyramids are not disappearing, but growing. For now, they reach a height of around 20 m. Whoever has visited this region has seen that this is an unusual kind of beauty. A similar natural phenomenon occurs in other parts of the world as well, which is why many people call the Sand Pyramids near Foča the Bosnian Colorado, because they are reminiscent of the ones in Colorado in the United States of America. As a matter of fact, they are hard to compare, as they differ in size and composition, and what sets them apart and makes them attractive is the greenery that surrounds them. If you climb the pyramids and look around – the never-ending greenery, magical plateaus and mountain peaks will leave you breathless.

Vrtače
J
A
Sinkholes
nother rare phenomenon in Bosnia and Herzegovina are the sinkholes, located in the village of Kapljuh. That is a populated area in Bravsko Polje, within the Bosanski Petrovac Municipality. These small holes, i.e. sinkholes, are situated across these areas of Bravsko Polje. Sinkholes are circular indentations with steep sides and most often they are in the shape of a funnel, but there are also those in the shape of plates and kettles. An area with a lot of sinkholes is referred to as „pockmarked karst“, while the tiny circular indentations are referred to as cavities. Despite the fact that after visiting the sinkholes you will still find them mysterious and you will not know how they were formed, seeing them will be an experience in itself.

Kamene kugle
D
Mjerenja s PIP kamerom britanskog stručnjaka dr.
T
Stone Spheres
he stone spheres in Bosnia and Herzegovina are also a world phenomenon that has not been researched enough, representing a mystery for citizens, as well researchers, since ancient times. The stone spheres in B&H have been discovered in Zavidovići, Velika Kladuša, Banjaluka, near Vareš, Laktaši, Kakanj, Maglaj, Žepče, Teočak, Olovo and Gračanica. They are mostly of smaller dimensions, but there are also some that are larger, weighing up to several tons. What represents the biggest mystery when it comes to the B&H stone spheres is the knowledge that several radiesthesists have measured the effects of the energy of the stone spheres on the bioenergy field of visitors. Measurements with the PIP camera of British expert Dr. Harry Oldfield show that in the case of interaction between a person and stone sphere, there are changes in the bioenergy field of both the stone sphere and the person, i.e. the bioenergy field becomes lighter and larger. While some claim that the spheres are the remnants of meteorites which fell in this region a long time ago, others consider the spheres to be the work of some ancient civilization, and there are also those of the opinion that this is a natural phenomenon that came about as a result of glacier withdrawal.

Skakači simboliziraju hrabrost, odvažnost i zdrav način života.

Nastupit će 14 skakača i

DIVING OFF THE STARI MOST (OLD BRIDGE)
The divers symbolize courage, boldness and a healthy lifestyle.
The traditional diving off the Stari Most (Old Bridge) in Mostar, in the disciplines of feet-first diving and head-first diving, will be held on July 28 for the 453rd time. This sports and tourism event in Mostar is one of the most famous events in the region and it is very significant for B&H.

DIVING OFF THE WATERFALL IN JAJCE Diving off the waterfall in Jajce is an international event. The last, tufa cascade of the Pliva River comprises of a magnificent 20-meter waterfall. The waterfall makes Jajce different from any other town in the world, as it is the only town that has a waterfall in its very center. In the spot where the Pliva River joins the Vrbas River, under the waterfall itself, there is a 10-meter-deep pool, which provides additional safety for competitors of the event. Each year, around 30 professional divers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Slovenia take part, and this year the competition will be held on August 17. The audience really enjoys the spectacle each year, and without doubt that will also be the case this year.
DIVING AT BENTBAŠA Bentbaša is a part of Sarajevo that is located along the Miljacka River, having got its name due to the dam (bent) there. For a long time, it was the most well-known swimming area in Sarajevo. Today, there is a pool and dam here. A diving competition has been held in mid-August in the last several years at Bentbaša, gathering a large number of Sarajevans and tourists. Year after year, this event is becoming a more significant sports and tourism event, and so far, the most successful divers from Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have participated. Many divers are expected this year as well, and an audience which will cheer them on and enjoy their acrobatics on August 3!
RED BULL CLIFF DIVING IN MOSTAR This year, fans of diving in our country will also have the opportunity to enjoy spectacular performances by the best world divers. 14 male divers and 10 female divers will compete, jumping from a breathtaking height of 27 meters (men) and 21 meters (women), achieving speeds of over 85 km/h, without any protection except their own concentration, skills and body. As in the previous four seasons, this season will also bring the world elite of diving to our country, to the Stari Most (Old Bridge) in Mostar, which has already gained the status of a classic in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Championship. There is no doubt that on August 24, there will be another top sports spectacle in the city on the Neretva River.

FORMERLY LUXURIOUS CASTLE Whoever ruled the castle would adapt it to their taste and the needs that arose through various periods, and those who had the chance to see it until the start of World War II had this to say:
“The castle is luxurious. The chambers are full of artfully crafted items. There are salons for playing music and a library with a number of books, paintings, portraits of family members, large and small bedrooms, halls with hunting trophies, household items and furniture with wood carvings and marquetry.”

The fortress is situated on a hill above the left bank of the Una River and the settlement of the same name, which belongs to Cazin Municipality, 12 km from Bihać towards Bosanska Krupa, more precisely – where the road branches off towards Cazin. Its name, according to old records, was mentioned back in 1286. Chronicler Ivan Tomašević, however, determined at one point that is existed under the name of Horosium or Hostosach in 405 BCE, but that has not been historically proven.
Later on, during World War II, the supreme headquarters of NOR (War of National Liberation) were situated in the old town of Ostrožac. This is where, they say, the plan for a very significant event was made – the 2nd session of the Anti-fascist Council of the National Liberation of Yugoslavia (AVNOJ).

And while its rulers rotated through the centuries, in 1579, the Beširević family started ruling Ostrožac as captains, for almost 300 years. Due to the long time that they ruled here, this family acquired the right to inherit the old town and fortress, and Mehmed Bey Beširević sold the old town of Ostrožac to Lothar von Berks, the mayor of the Bihać district from 1896 to 1905. What followed was the restoration and construction of the castle, where he moved in, in 1902. He ruled the Bihać district from there, in the name of Habsburg.

ČUVENA LUTVINA KAHVA Na ovom mjestu 1807. godine počinje, i sedam godina kasnije završava, radnja romana Travnička hronika Ive Andrića.

UNAVOIDABLE B&H ATTRACTION
Plava Voda in Travnik
FROM ANCIENT TIMES, PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMING HERE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD AND TRAVNIK RESIDENTS HAVE ALWAYS GREETED THEM WITH OPEN ARMS Author: Samila Ivković
D
ue to the magical surroundings of Šumeće stream, Plava Voda (Blue Water) is one of the best-known places in the vizier town of Travnik. A special attraction in this place is the famous Lutvina Kahva (Lutvo’s Coffee) cafe, and the Plava Voda restaurant across from this cafe is no less attractive. Its interior is decorated in a traditional Bosnian style, and it attracts the most visitors during summer, when it is set up outdoors next to the stream. 88
AUTHENTIC DESIGN A short time prior to his significant visit, the house where Rudolph had coffee was renovated and colored in characteristic yellow and orange horizontal stripes in a pseudo- Moorish style, as were all significant buildings from that time, such as, for example, Sarajevo’s Vijećnica (City Hall) or the Vijećnica (City Hall) in Brčko. This look has been preserved until today.
In this most beautiful spot in town, as many claim it to be, called Plava Voda, until November 1906, the numerous springs and rivulets were set into constant motion by watermills and the wooden pillars that crushed the oak bark, which was required for tanning in Travnik tanneries or tabhane, of which only the foundations are left downstream of the Lašva River.
THE FAMOUS LUTVINA KAHVA (LUTVO’S COFFEE) In this place in 1807, the plot of the novel Travnička Hronika (The Bosnian Chronicle: A Novel) by Ivo Andrić begins, and ends seven years later. It was a modest wooden house, where Travnik’s beys would sit and gather. There is a special story about how the coffee that people drink here today became so famous.
ter that visit, the coffee officially got the name Rudolph’s coffee.
A TOWN WITH A LOT TO OFFER Over time, the name Rudolph’s coffee was changed to Lutvo’s coffee, because people called it that for years, and the name has stuck until today. What makes this coffee specific is that you get a Turkish delight, a matchbox and a cigarette along with it. Not even the oldest people remember that first owner of the cafe, Lutvo; that guy has been on one of the scattered graveyards of Travnik for at least a hundred years, but everyone goes to Lutvo’s for coffee and his name is remembered and pronounced in the
spot where the names of so many sultans, viziers and beys have been forgotten..., says the prologue of the novel Travnička Hronika (Bosnian Chronicle: A Novel). Whether it be due to Rudolph’s or Lutvo’s coffee, the pleasure of being next to the murmur of water, the rich history which took place here... since ancient times, people have been coming here from all over the world and Travnik residents have always greeted them with open arms. Apart from Plava Voda, this town, which 150 years ago served as the capital of the Bosnian pashaluk and as the residence of 77 viziers, is certainly worth seeing in detail. You will be surprised by how many tourist attractions Travnik has to offer.
In June 1887 in Travnik, in the place of today’s Plava Voda, the Austrian archduke and the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne, Rudolph Franz Karl Joseph, the only son of emperor Franz Joseph I and duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, came for a visit. The renowned guest had coffee and gave the owner a ducat, which he would keep for years in a special china closet, including the džezva (coffee pot) and fildžan (cup) that the prince used when drinking coffee. This china closet was handed down from owner to owner of the establishment, and af89

Nature Reserve
Tivatska Solila
WHAT IS INTERESTING FOR TOURISTS AND FANS OF BIRDWATCHING IS THAT VERY RARE BIRDS CAN BE SEEN IN THIS AREA
I
n 2008, the locality of Solila was protected as a special nature reserve Tivatska Solila, for the preservation of rare, depleted and endangered plant and animal species, primarily ornithofauna and plant communities. This nature reserve, with an area of around 150 ha, is located on the wetland part of the coastline of Krtoljski Zaliv in the Tivat Municipality, and it is the first protected area of that type on the Montenegro coast and one of the key retreats for birds on their migratory path (Adriatic Flyway). Solila is the Emerald Network of the Bern Convention, as well as an Area of International Importance for bird habitation in Montenegro - IBA area. From 2013, the Solila reserve has been on the list of Wetlands of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. Because of the significance and diversity of habitat types, this area is also on the preliminary Natura 2000 list. 92
This area was formed by the deposition of sediment at the basin of Široka River and Koložun River, and the labor of man who, with the aid of the sun and wind, would get salt in the seawater pools. In archive documents, this area was recognized as
Since 2014, this reserve has been managed by Javno Preduzeće za Upravljanje Morskim Dobrom Crne Gore (Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management of Montenegro). Towards the end of 2018, the reserve also became a member of Asocijacija Parkovi Dinarida (Association of the Parks of the Dinarides), which consists of over 90 protected areas from 8 countries of the Dinaric Arc.

significant for salt farming after the Middle Ages. After salt farming ceased in the 18th century, the production of salt was attempted for the last time in this region during the 60s.
While there used to be numerous coastal wetland habitats in the Mediterranean, today only a rare few are left. At the remaining coastal lagoons and marine habitats, shorebirds gather on their migratory path towards Africa and back. To date, around 115 bird species are registered at Solila from a total of 330 species, which can regularly be seen in Montenegro. Solila is one of the rare remaining wetland coastal bird habitats on the east

coast of the Adriatic, which is, due to the abundance of food in shallow water, a habitat for birds during wintering and a resting place for migrating birds from Northern and Eastern Europe. In the shallow seawater in front of Solila, you can often see cormorants, grebes, seagulls, common coots and certain species of ducks. In the shallows, shorebirds and several species of herons regularly feed, and you can see the grey heron, large white heron and small white heron during the entire summer. During spring and fall, macchia, underbrush and open areas attract various species of smaller songbirds, especially wagtails, rock ptarmigans, European stonechats, several species of swallows and certain species of birds of prey, especially harriers. During nesting, in spring and summer, the number of birds reduces. The bottom of the pool of the former saltworks dries up so that birds from wetland habitats do not have the conditions for survival. That is why the birds that nest there are typical for the Mediterranean coast, and we can single out certain species of shrikes, black-headed buntings, warblers and others.
In the area of Krtoli, in the immediate vicinity of Solila, at the beginning of the 20th century, the factory Prva Bokeška Glinena Industrija (First Bokeška Clay Industry) was built. On the plot of the factory, where during the 30s there were around 150 employees, there used to be: a dock, six drying areas, a carpenter shop, a mechanical workshop, a coal production area, a stockroom, a water reservoir, a sentry and a residential building. In 1908, the factory purchased one part of a plot located in the area of the old medieval Solila, which had not been in operation for a long time. That land was used to extract raw material – clay for the factory. The zones where clay was widely used are recognizable today, because they are lower than the rest of the terrain and they are filled with water. A cable car was constructed for the transport of clay from Solana to the factory. Prva Bokeška Glinena Industrija (First Bokeška Clay Industry) was open until after World War II. Last year, a baby shoveler was first registered here, which tells us that this is a new species which has chosen Solila for nesting. In February 2018, a flock of over 100 cranes was first registered in the reserve, resting for two days during spring migration towards Northern Europe. In 2009, Centar za Zaštitu i Proučavanje Ptica (CZIP, Center for the Protection and Research of Birds) established the regular monitoring of birds in nature reserve Tivatska Solila, and the results show an increasing number of registered species which spend time at Solila during migration. In addition, Solila is one of the locations in Montenegro where the International Waterbird Census is conducted in winter, as part of the oldest world monitoring of birds, which has been conducted for over 50 years.
MEDIEVAL AND NEW SALTWORKS The medieval saltworks in Solila ceased to operate probably during the 18th century. However, its location, the original parcellation and certain elements have been preserved,
and they are especially visible in the northern part of Solila. In mid-20th century, the Tivat Municipality started the construction of new saltworks, which was formed in 1963, and supposedly salt was produced there for two seasons. Today, the remains of pools for IV vaporization and the embankment reservoir and the remains of crystallization pools and the 1st group of concentration pools are still visible. The wooden stakes, which served for the formwork of the supply channels, have also been preserved. The main building of Solila was constructed based on the design from 1959 and represents an integral part of the saltworks complex and a valuable example of the architecture of the 20th century. However, during the 60s, salt started arriving to the European market from saltworks from Northern Africa, where the cost of salt production is much lower than on the northern coast of the Mediterranean due to the favorable natural conditions with a lot of sun and wind. That caused the decline of around 200 smaller traditional saltworks, including the one at Solila. 93

STARI BAR I STARA MASLINA Posjeta Baru neizostavno podrazumijeva obilazak Starog Bara i čuvene Stare masline.

sten daju mu specifičnu tamnu boju i aromu.

A CITY ON TWO MAGICAL SHORES THAT LIVES ALL YEAR ROUND
B
ar is one of the sunniest cities of the Adriatic, with a mild climate, clear air and water. Its beauty is reflected in its recognizable beaches above which the Rumija Mountain stretches out, its wealth and intrigue are protected by the walls of the Stari Grad (Old Town) and the Stara Maslina (Old Olive Tree), and its authenticity is preserved by the taste of wine and culinary specialties. Located on two magical shores, it offers a unique opportunity to welcome the sunrise on the shore of the largest lake in the Balkans – Skadarsko Lake, and to send off the golden sunset on the seashore. The beauty of the Bar region, its shores, sandy beaches, Mediterranean plants, cultural goods, and cultural, entertainment and sporting events, are reasons why you should visit this Montenegrin city, and they are also the reasons why everyone returns time and time again throughout the entire year.
PANORAMIC ROUTE On the seashore of Bar, there are beautiful and popular beaches, such as Biserna Obala (Pearl Sho-
re), Zlatna Obala (Golden Shore), Kraljičina Plaža (Queen’s Beach), Crvena Plaža (Red Beach) and others. However, guests are just as attracted by the beauty and activities on the other side of the shore. The 115-kmlong panoramic route Između Dvije Čarobne Obale (Between Two Magical Shores) provides a unique experience where you can enjoy seven impressive vantage points, natural beauties, culinary specialties and a number of cultural and historical monuments. The vantage points were constructed in places from which there is an impressive view of natural beauty, and the sights and attractions of rugged Bar coastlines: in Štegvaš, Livari, Murići, Godinje, Limljani, Sutorman and Tuđemili. The path also leads through a century-old chestnut forest, through wine cellars and cultural and historical monuments. Skadarsko Lake is a specific ecosystem made up of a rich flora and fauna with 280 species of birds and 48 species of fish, an area full
of cultural and historical monuments, picturesque old settlements, villages and bridges, centuries-old forests, medieval monasteries and the famous Crmnica vineyards. While cruising the lake, you have the opportunity to try out local culinary specialties that make this region famous. The tradition of growing grapevine and making wine in the region of Skadarsko Lake has been nurtured for over five centuries, so Putevi Vina (Paths of Wine) are a particularly interesting part of the tourist offer.
STARI BAR (OLD BAR) AND STARA MASLINA (OLD OLIVE TREE) A visit to Bar inevitably means a tour of Stari Bar (Old Bar) and the famous Stara Maslina (Old Olive Tree). Stari Grad (Old Town) is the most significant monument, which has been in existence for over 2500 years and

represents a unique synthesis of the Mediterranean and the Orient. It is located around 4 km from today’s Bar, situated on a large rock, protected from three sides by cliffs, while along the west side it is protected by walls. In the city, there are the remains of 240 buildings, with narrow winding streets and irregular squares. The buildings were constructed out of carved stone, on one or more floors. For centuries, Stari Bar (Old Bar) was the administrative, economic and religious center of the region between the Adriatic Sea and Skadarsko Lake. Bar is also famous for its Stara Maslina (Old Olive Tree) which dates back to 2240 years ago, which is why it is considered one of three oldest trees in Europe. Legend states that groups of feuding families would gather around the olive tree, and they would reconcile there, so the place where it is located is called Mirovica (mir means peace).
FOOD FOR ALL THE SENSES It is impossible not to try all of Bar’s delicacies - japraci, štufada, bamije, šestanska čorba (Šestani chowder), tespišta, skadarska ukljeva (Skadar common bleak) which is fresh and dry and shines like gold, smoked carp, eel and rice, dolma, raštan,

all sorts of pies, olives in various ways, olive oil... From priganica with honey, authentic types of olives to dried figs; from the sea and lake, from the field, from the vineyard and olive grove, grown and handpicked, spiced with herbs from Rumija and sweetened with pleasure – all that is the cuisine of this region. What stands out are the olives, and the cultivation of olive trees along both Bar shores has a long tradition. The thousand-year-old trees bear witness to this, as well as the preserved old mills, where oil is produced in the traditional way, and much more. In Bar, you can try out green or black or spicy olive tapenade, olive bread, spice oils from various plants, black olive liqueur... and there are even soaps and cosmetic creams. If you are a fan of fish, then you must try the common bleak or jezersko zlato (the gold of the lake) and carp on the lake. Both fish are local culinary specialties, an unavoidable part of national cuisine in late fall. The honey from this region, which has the concentrated power of healing flowers of the meadows, the forests and karst, is of very high quality, and wormwood and chestnut give it the specific dark color and aroma. All of this, decorated by wreaths of dried figs and leaves, is offered by the hardworking locals on the main
market in the city center and the smaller, but much older, market at the čaršija.
THREE LARGE FESTIVITIES Three large festivities, to celebrate the gifts of nature, are an opportunity for Bar locals to show their autochthonous and very famous products. At Virpazar, during the Festival Vina i Ukljeve (Festival of Wine and the Common Bleak), people party while drinking the famous Crmnica wine, eating fish chowder and fresh and dry common bleak, and at Ostros, at the Koštenijada, they party while eating baked and cooked chestnuts, and various dishes and cakes that the hardworking local women of this region make. In November, in the picturesque čaršija in Stari Bar (Old Bar), the Maslinijada is held, a festivity that attracts many visitors each year. Throughout the entire year, on stages across Bar, many other events are organized, including concerts of popular music and classical music. Bar is a city of festivals and festivities, shows and meetings, which lives all year round. Its warm and friendly people will wish you a warm welcome and offer you a lot of original activities, even after the summer season. That is why you are always welcome in Bar!

INDONEZIJA U BROJKAMA Površina: 1.905 miliona m2 Obala: 54.720 km2 Ostrva: 17.504 Populacija: 269 miliona Etničke grupe: 714 Jezik: 1.001 lokalni jezik
Sve više indonežanskih turista posjećuju Bosnu i Hercegovinu, a osim
Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met. i šef delegacije Distrikta Brčko Damir Bulčević i dekan Ekonomskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Indoneziji, prof. Ari
Kuncoro, S. E., M. A., Ph. Moh Fauzi, veliki prijatelj Bosne i Hercegovine.

Svi jako vole Bosnu i Hercegovinu i znaju mnogo o našoj prošlosti, Titu, Srebrenici i proteklom ratu, ali i o Sarajevo Biznis Forumu i Brčko Biznis Forumu.
Imali smo čast upoznati i dugogodišnjeg prijatelja ambasadorice Amelije, Agung Raia, umjetnika i vlasnika muzeja Museum of Art, koji zajedno s balinežanskim umjetnicima promoviše njihovu kulturu u Ubudu.

To our great honor, ambassador Amelia invited the team of Furaj.ba to join the delegation in visiting Java, Sumatra and Bali. B&H and Indonesia have been fostering a good relationship for a number of years, and thanks to ambassador Amelia, advancements in economic cooperation are becoming more visible. So far, the cooperation between the two countries has been based on the exportation of military equipment and armament to Indonesia and the importation of paper, palm oil, coconut flour, cinnamon, 104
cocoa and coconut shell briquettes. An increasing number of Indonesian tourists are visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina, and apart from Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines also has a direct line to Bali, and it is expected that the number of B&H citizens who travel to this exotic island will increase. It is important to point out that citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina do not need a visa for a stay of up to 30 days, and we can hope that the visa requirements for citizens of Indonesia will be less restrictive soon.

In several Indonesian cities, monuments have been erected in his honor, and streets and the airport in Bali bear his name.
A WARM WELCOME
Ambassador Amelia Yani and Agung Rai, artist and owner of the Museum of Art
The honors with which our delegation was greeted in Indonesia are quite amazing. In the city of Madan, there was a billboard with words of welcome, and newspapers wrote about our visit. ŽIVOTNA PRIČA / LIFE STORY
SLAVEN ŠKROBOT
SVJETSKI PUTNIK
u invalidskim kolicima
JEDNOG DANA BI, KAŽE SLAVEN, VOLIO OBIĆI CIJELI SVIJET, A POSEBNO MU JE ŽELJA POSJETITI IRAN, NAMIBIJU, ISLAND I JUGOISTOČNU AZIJU
S
Sebe sam pronašao u muzici i putovanjima, to me ispunjava i čini potpuno sretnom osobom. 109
ŽIVOTNA PRIČA / LIFE STORY
nam Slaven. Mnogo istražuje, čita, pregovara i ispituje.
- Jako me veseli ako vidim da sam nekome uistinu pomogao.
To govori mnogo o kvaliteti života tamošnjih osoba s invaliditetom. Sve je ravno i pristupačno. U
WHEELCHAIR-BOUND
World Traveler SLAVEN SAYS THAT ONE DAY HE WOULD LOVE TO TRAVEL THE WORLD, AND HE WOULD ESPECIALLY LOVE TO VISIT IRAN, NAMIBIA, ICELAND AND SOUTHEAST ASIA
Author: Samila Ivković
I
t took just one careless jump into the sea to change the life of then 23-year-old Slaven Škrobot from Zagreb in a second, paralyzing him from the neck down. The accident happened 10 years ago on the island of Krk. It was just an ordinary day at the beach, when Slaven and his friends decided to jump off the
pier. One after the other, they jumped. Slaven was the last to jump and he was almost certain that the coast was clear, however, his friend was in the way and he saw him emerging in that moment. Slaven moved his arms, so that he would not hurt his friend and hit his head against his thigh and broke his neck, or more
precisely, his fifth cervical vertebrae. Luckily his friends realized that he was not fooling around, as he remained afloat on his stomach, so they took him out of the water. Upon arrival to hospital, he lost consciousness and after that his year-long rehabilitation in hospitals began. After a long and difficult recovery, 111
ŽIVOTNA PRIČA / LIFE STORY
Slaven became wheelchair-bound, and he had to start his life over again.
FIRST TRAVELOGUE In order to stop having negative thoughts, he decided to travel, and wrote his first travelogue, for which he received an award. Today, Slaven is a world traveler, who wants to show that life can be just as good and as fulfilled even in a wheelchair. He has been to Morocco, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Russia... and soon he is planning a trip to far-away Australia. - My story with traveling started after my injury, when I was spending time at home lying around, looking at photos of my friends who were traveling, skiing and going out, so I wanted to change something. So, I mustered up the courage to go on my first trip, to Sarajevo. That is a city that left an impression on me and I had a good time. The people were some of the best I’ve come across on my trips, absolutely everyone wanted to help me. Then there was Madrid, and after that I traveled through most of Europe. During these trips, I realized that I wanted something more, to go somewhere further, that’s more extreme and exotic. 112
Given his adventurous spirit and the fact that he loves deserts, the Middle East, their culture, architecture and history, Slaven decided to go on a trip to Morocco. For him, this trip was quite a step out of his comfort zone and he did not know what would await. - It was the best option as Morocco is a wonderful country, it’s not big, it’s not far, it’s cheap, exotic and has absolutely everything that I’m interested in. Along with that, it even has a desert! Morocco fulfilled all my expectations, so I put all my experiences and emotions into a travelogue, which won an award in a competition with 300 entries. I won two return tickets to Australia, where I hope to go towards the end of September. Currently, I try to portray what I’ve experienced to people in the best way through photographs with descriptions. I’m preparing travelogues, and one day maybe there’ll be a book as well. After his first award, a lot of people contacted Slaven, encouraging him to continue to write about his adventures, so he decided to create a Facebook page and Instagram profile. What followed were more trips to Tanzania, Russia and Jordan,
and now what awaits is the biggest challenge and the hardest trip to far-away Australia.
THE WILL TO LIVE If you meet Slaven, you get the impression that he is a person full of positive energy and the will to live. A former athlete and student of economics, a young man who used to lead a very active life, after the accident, he found a way to find something positive even in negative things and to focus only on that. He says that he was always a positive person, but that credit goes to his friends and family for his recovery, as they provided him with constant support. - When you have an accident and end up in a wheelchair, your life can turn upside down in a second. You can forget about anything that you had or used to do before the accident. You have to „re-learn“ your body, what you are able to do and you have to find yourself in something, as everything becomes restricted. It is hard, but I am lucky that some things came together for me, while unfortunately many people don’t have that luck. I found myself in music and traveling, that is something that gives me fulfillment and makes me happy.
By nature, Slaven is a very considerate person and he says he loves to help people, so he is happy to give advice and try to help wherever he can. - It makes me very happy if I see that I’ve really helped someone. I would advise people in my situation to try and think positively, even though that’s not easy, to try different things and to find themselves in something, something that will fulfill them. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a hobby, sport or work. A healthy and positive mind is the key to a happy life. After his injury no one wanted to travel with Slaven, but now the situation is completely different. He mostly travels with his girlfriend Gabrijela. Sometimes they go alone, but very often some of their friends or family come along. When they are going somewhere far and exotic, they prefer it when there are more of them, to make things easier for Slaven. The preparations for the trip are mostly long, says Slaven. He does a lot of research, reads, negotiates and queries. His preparations take at least a month, but he says he loves and enjoys doing it.
ACCESSIBILITY OF DESTINATIONS When it comes to his wheelchair and accessibility, Slaven finds that information on some destinations that are further away like Africa and Middle Eastern countries are rare and hard to find, and adds that it takes a lot of research and assistance if you want to experience that destination. - In Europe, America and Australia most places are accessible, information is available and it is easy to get around. I loved Berlin, where if you wander through the city, you see at least fifty people in a wheelchair on a daily basis. That says a lot about the quality of life of people with disabilities who live there. Everything is flat and accessible. In Madrid, for example, all the buses are accessible, even the intercity ones. At more exotic locations, things are quite different.
If he finds himself at a location which is not accessible to people with disabilities, and he really has a desire to see it, Slaven and his fellow travelers always find a solution. Slaven says that one day he would love to travel the world, and
I found myself in music and traveling, that is something that gives me fulfillment and makes me happy he would especially love to visit Iran, Namibia, Iceland and Southeast Asia. - If we are on our way somewhere, to something that I don’t really have to see, and there are a lot of stairs, then I wait for my fellow travelers and tell them to take photos for me. If something is a must-see destination and it is possible to get there with assistance, then I go! We figure everything out, but given that I do a lot of research prior to a trip, then I know what awaits and what my options are. 113

CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM Ingredients: • 1/2 cup whole milk • 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder • 1/2 cup heavy cream • 2/3 cup sugar • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 16 ounces (approximately 500g) ice cubes Preparation: Combine all ingredients in a blender. Prestanite miješati kada očvrsne i držite u zamrzivaču.
LEMON SORBET Ingredients: • 250g white caster sugar • thick strip of lemon peel • juice of 2-3 lemons Preparation: Heat 250ml water and the sugar in a small pan until the sugar has dissolved then bring the mixture to the boil. Cook for 3 mins then turn off the heat and leave to cool. Measure out 100ml of lemon juice and add to the sugar mixture. Pour into a freezer box and freeze for 1hr 30 mins then mix up with a whisk to break up and incorporate the ice crystals before returning to the freezer. Keep mixing the sorbet once an hour for 4 hours to break up the ice crystals. Stop mixing when firm but still scoopable then store in the freezer.
SLADOLED OD VANILIJE Sastojci: • 400 ml zaslađenog kondenzovanog mlijeka • 2 kašičice ekstrakta vanilije • 2 šolje hladnog slatkog vrhnja Priprema: U posudi srednje veličine, pomješajte kondenzovano mlijeko i vaniliju. Ulijte u tepsiju. Zamrznite dok ne očvrsne, 6 sati.
VANILLA ICE CREAM Ingredients: • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract • 2 cups cold heavy cream Preparation: In a medium bowl, stir together condensed milk and vanilla. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat cream on high until stiff peaks form, 3 minutes. With a rubber spatula, gently fold whipped cream into condensed milk mixture. Pour into a loaf pan. Freeze until firm, 6 hours.
FRUIT ICE CREAM Ingredients: • 200g strawberries, hulled • 1 large mango, deseeded and peeled • 1/4 lemon juiced • 3 very ripe bananas, peeled • 200g condensed milk • 600ml double cream • 4 kiwi fruit, peeled Preparation: Mash or purée the strawberries and mango in two separate bowls. In another bowl, add the lemon juice and the banana and mash.
Beat the condensed milk and cream in a large bowl with an electric whisk until thick and quite stiff. Divide the mixture between the three bowls. Fold a fruit purée into each. Transfer each one into a freezer container and freeze until solid. Purée the kiwi and sieve out any seeds if you like. Serve a scoop of each ice cream in bowls and top with the kiwi sauce, or the chopped fruit.
