U MOSTARU OTVOREN PRVI MUZEJ OLDTIMERA NA BALKANU Mostar je u maju ove godine dobio prvi muzej tehničkih stvari i oldtimera na Balkanu, u prostoru bivše kasarne u mostarskom naselju Rodoč . Riječ je o prvom muzeju jednog oldtimer kluba koji je pod zaštitom UNESCO-a, te punopravni član svjetske oldtimer organizacije FIVA i predstavnik BiH. Muzej se sastoji od 700 kvadrata gdje je izloženo oko 40 automobila iz prošlog stoljeća, među kojima su neki stari i oko 100 godina. Također, uz muzej se nalazi i jedini servis za procjenu oldtimera, gdje će se utvrđivati originalnost vozila potrebna za registraciju oldtimera, kao i antikvarnica i pub za goste u kojem planiraju održavati i umjetničke izložbe, promocije i prezentacije.
CABRIO BUS – PANORAMSKI AUTOBUS NOVA ATRAKCIJA MOSTARA U Mostaru je ovog ljeta počeo saobraćati panoramski autobus koji pored razgledavanja najvećeg grada na Neretvi u ponudi ima i organizacija jednodnevnih izleta u okviru kojih će turisti moći vidjeti Počitelj, Blagaj, Međugorje i vodopad Kravica. Panoramski autobus kreće svakog dana sa autobuske stanice u Mostaru u 9, a u Mostar se vraća u 18 sati. 12
THE FIRST OLDTIMER MUSEUM IN THE BALKANS OPENED IN MOSTAR In May this year, Mostar became home to the first museum of technical items and classic cars in the Balkans. It is located in the former barracks in the Rodoč neighbourhood. This is the first museum of an oldtimer club which is under the protection of UNESCO, a full member of FIVA, the international oldtimer organisation, and a representative of B&H. The museum covers an area of 700 square metres. Around 40 cars from the 20th century are on display, some dating back to the 1920s. In addition, the only oldtimer inspection service company is right next to the museum. It will assess whether the cars are original which is required for registration purposes. There is an antique shop and a pub for visitors which will also be the place where art exhibitions, promotions and presentations will take place.
CABRIO BUS—A PANORAMIC BUS TOUR OF MOSTAR IS A NEW ATTRACTION As of this summer, you can go on a panoramic bus tour around Mostar to explore all the main sights in the largest city on the Neretva River. The panoramic bus also takes tourists on day trips to Počitelj, Blagaj, Međugorje and Kravica Waterfalls. It runs every day from the central bus station in Mostar at 9 am and arrives in Mostar at 6 pm.

OD 1. JULA POČINJE SAOBRAĆATI VOZ OD SARAJEVO DO PLOČA
AS OF 1 JULY, A PASSENGER TRAIN TO RUN BETWEEN SARAJEVO AND PLOČE
Od 1. jula, petkom, subotom i nedjeljom saobraća sezonski voz od Sarajeva do Ploča. ŽFBiH nude putnicima niz komercijalnih povlastica za određene kategorije putnika. Povlastica od 30 posto odobrava se kod putovanja u grupi od najmanje šest odraslih putnika. Istu povlasticu uživaju i studenti, penzioneri, osobe starije od 60 godina života, novinari i ratni vojni invalidi. Djeca starosne dobi od 4 do 12 godina, slijepa lica i njihovi pratioci, kao i grupe veće od 30 putnika imaju povlasticu 50 posto. Djeca do 4 godine starosti ostvaruju pravo na besplatnu vožnju. Voz će saobraćati do 11. septembra 2022. godine
As of 1 July, a seasonal train between Sarajevo and Ploče will run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. ŽFBiH, the railway company of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, gives a range of discounts on train tickets for several customer groups. Groups of up to six adults can get a 30% discount when travelling together. The same discount is available to students, pensioners, and elderly customers aged 60 years or above. Children aged four to twelve inclusive, visually impaired travellers and their companions, and groups of more than 30 passengers get a 50% discount. Children under four can travel free with a fare paying passenger. The service will operate until 11 September 2022.
PRESTIŽNA IZDAVAČKA KUĆA IZDALA MONOGRAFIJU “GEOGRAFIJA BIH” Prestižna svjetska izdavačka kuća Springer Nature izdala je kompletnu prvu naučnu monografiju “Geografija Bosne i Hercegovine” grupe autora Harisa Gekića, Aide Bidžan-Gekić, Nusreta Dreškovića, Ranka Mirića i Pétera Reményija. Izvanredan je to naučni uspjeh profesora Odsjeka za geografiju Prirodno-matematičkog fakulteta Univerziteta u Sarajevu i ogromna promocija naše domovine u svijetu. Monografija je namijenjena istraživačima i naučnicima svih nivoa iz oblasti geografije, geopolitike, historije i srodnih oblasti i svima koji su zainteresovani za ovu zemlju između Istoka i Zapada. 14
A PRESTIGIOUS PUBLISHING HOUSE PUBLISHED THE MONOGRAPH “THE GEOGRAPHY OF B&H” The prestigious publishing house Springer Nature published the first complete scientific monograph “The Geography of Bosnia and Herzegovina” co-authored by Haris Gekić, Aida Bidžan-Gekić, Nusret Drešković, Ranko Mirić, and Péter Reményi. It is a remarkable scientific achievement for the professors in the Department of Geography at University of Sarajevo’s School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and for the promotion of our country around the world. The monograph appeals to researchers and scholars of all levels in the fields of geography, geopolitics, history and related fields and everyone interested in this country between East and West.

THE OLD BRIDGE IN MOSTAR RANKED FOURTH MOST INCREDIBLE BRIDGE IN EUROPE BY SPANIARDS
Ugledni španski list El Pais objavio je listu najnevjerovatnijih mostova Evrope, gdje je Stari most u Mostaru zauzeo visoko četvrto mjesto. Lista uglednog časopisa obuhvatarazličite građevine počev od historijskih dragulja poput Karlovog mosta u Pragu do modernih inžinjerskih konstrukcija koje prelaze mora i povezuju zemlje. Među njima naveden je i Stari most, za koji se navodi: “Od 1566. godine ovaj Stari most povezuje mostarske četvrti uzvišenom krivinom koju razdvaja rijeka Neretva. Međutim, postao je simbol barbarstva: 1993. godine, tokom rata u Bosni, uništeno je ovo drevno inžinjersko remek-djelo.”
The renowned Spanish newspaper El País published a list of the most incredible bridges in Europe. The Old Bridge in Mostar ranked high on the list, coming in at No. 4. The newspaper’s list includes different buildings ranging from historic gems such as the Charles Bridge in Prague to modern engineering structures spanning the seas and connecting countries. The Old Bridge is among them. This is what the newspaper says about it: “Since 1566, this Old Bridge has been connecting Mostar’s neighbourhoods separated by the Neretva River with a lofty curve. However, it became a symbol of barbarism: in 1993, during the Bosnian war, this ancient engineering masterpiece was destroyed.”

HOLIVUDSKI FILM „DIVLJA RIJEKA 2“ SNIMA SE NA ŠTRBAČKOM BUKU
HOLLYWOOD FILM “THE RIVER WILD 2” IS BEING SHOT AT ŠTRBAČKI BUK
Jedna od najpoznatijih svjetskih filmskih kompanija „Universal studios“ snima film „Divlja rijeka 2“ na Štrbačkom buku u Nacionalnom parku Una. Riječ je o filmu u čijem je prvom dijelu glavnu ulogu imala slavna Meryl Streep. Sekvence filma nastale su na lokaciji Štrbačkog buka, potom nizvodno do lokacije Lohovo kod Bihaća. Premijera je planirana za proljeće naredne godine.
Universal Studios, one of the world’s most renowned motion-picture studios, is shooting “The River Wild 2” at Štrbački buk in the Una National Park. The first sequence starred the iconic actress Meryl Streep. Some scenes were shot at Štrbački buk and down the river at Lohovo near Bihać. The premiere of the film is planned for next year.

Nakon tri godine poslovanja u Sarajevu, pored poslovnica na Ilidži i u Novom Sarajevu kod Bristola, otvorena je nova poslovnica preko puta SCC-a na Marijin-Dvoru. Novootvorena radnja je na dva sprata i sa prostranom baštom, a površina prostora je veća od 300 m2. Također, pušačka zona će biti posebno odvojena. U ponudi je preko 100 različitih hladnih, toplih i blendanih napitaka sa bazom od kafe. 16
SARAJEVO IS NOW HOME TO THE LARGEST CARIBOU COFFEE CAFÉ IN EUROPE Caribou Coffee is a US-based luxury coffee shop franchise. After three years of operation in Sarajevo, in addition to the existing cafés in Ilidža and in New Sarajevo near Hotel Bristol, Caribou Coffee has opened a new café opposite the Sarajevo City Centre in the Marijin Dvor neighbourhood. It is a two-storey shop with a spacious garden measuring more than 300 square metres in size. Also, there will be a smoking section separate from the non-smoking section. The brand offers more than 100 different cold, hot and blended coffee-based drinks.

NJEGOVO ŽIVOTNO I UMJETNIČKO BORAVIŠTE SMJEŠTENO JE PRI VRHU NEPONOVLJIVOG HISTORIJSKOG NASELJA ORIJENTALNO-MEDITERANSKOG KARAKTERA S NEVJEROVATNIM, A NEISKORIŠTENIM TURISTIČKIM POTENCIJALIMA. BOLNO JE TO ZA SVAKOG RAZUMNOG ČOVJEKA. vako vrijeme stvara svoje gradove. Zauvijek originale. Kao što je Počitelj. Svako vrijeme rađa svoje ljude. Jedinstvene, koji ga boje svojim bojama i pomjeraju granice. Takav je Safet Zec. Kada se susretnu, onda nastaju priče koje odišu umjetničkom fascinacijom. STRAST ILI LUDOST Safet Zec nema samo jedno životno boravište. Pored Venecije i Sarajeva, još 70-ih godina prošlog vijeka počet će se trajno vezati za Počitelj, gdje je sa suprugom Ivankom posjetio u to vrijeme održavanu umjetničku koloniju. Tada rođene emocije bazirane su kao i danas na estetskim referencama, ljubavi prema starinama i poštovanju historije. “Ovaka mjesta uzbuđuju jednu strukturu ljudi, nazovimo ih umjetnicima, ali i sve druge kultivirane ljude. Putovanja su postala masovna, laka, jednostavna, a turizam svima
najvažnija grana. Ljudi se žele rado naći u ovakvim sredinama”, govori Safet, koji je osjećao veliko uzbuđenje saopštavajući roditeljima da je u Počitelju kupio kuću. No, za mlade ljude, njegovu suprugu i njega, izgradnja je bila komplikovana i nisu je ni mogli naslutiti od silne ljubavi koja će zamagliti pogled na sve ono što će doći uz kupovinu kuće. “Najprije me je ispunjavao taj momenat u kojem sam sazrio da kupim kuću. Kuća je kuća. Ali, kada je majka vidjela, rekla je: ‘Ako ovo bude kuća, ja ću postati cura (smijeh)’.” Od avlije pune smokvi, nane, mirisa koji su se širili zaraslim ambijentom dok su njime kročili Safet i Ivanka, nastali su uređeni prostori, kuće i bašte. “Restauracija je bila bolna u ovim uslovima, ali nisam tu mogao sjediti turistički, tako da sam veoma brzo u prizemnoj izbi postavio presu i formirao grafički ambijent, gdje
sam mogao raditi na pločama. Posmatrao sam majstore i radio. Bilo je mnogo zanosa. Bilo je i kriza, ali, na sreću, izdržao sam. Iz godine u godinu sam spoznavao šta je restauracija, upoznavao ljude, skupljao novac i pravio komotnije okruženje. I dan-danas nešto ispravljam ili dodajem. Strast ili ludost, koje smo ostavili ovdje, našu djecu ne obavezuju. S nama, sa mnom, to se završava. Na njih nikakvu obavezu ne prenosim. Ako zavole, bujrum.” Izgubivši suprugu, ostavši sam, Safet je ušao u sentimentalnu fazu. Sve ovo ga i dalje podsjeća na nju, na njihov zajednički put. Njen gubitak nadoknađuju upravo divna djeca. RAD KAO VELIKA PJESMA I ZADOVOLJSTVO Safet stvara u različitim ateljeima, no počiteljski za njega kao čovjeka ima nešto što drugi nemaju. “Ovdje mogu raditi dva sata i izaći 19

u baštu, prošetati, ili leći na travu. Izađete iz ateljea, i vi ste već pod nekom lozom koju ste vi posadili, kod smokve koju ste vi kalemili.” U Počitelju su nastala neka od Safetovih najznačajnih dijela. Kompletan grafički opus, desetine ploča koje su odnesene tokom rata i za koje ni dan-danas ne zna gdje su. Nešto je iz tog prijeratnog opusa ponovio u sljedećem radu. Za majstora širokog područja tema i grupa, neiscrpan je izvor inspiracije. “Na sreću, ja sam jedna vrsta slikarskog ludaka, gdje me sve na neki način uzbuđuje i provocira. Stasao sam i veoma sam moćan u praktičnom, izvođačkom dijelu, tako da sam izveo velike i fascinantne projekte. Razvijajući stalno ljubav i strast, sve sam postajao bolji. Uživam sretno priznanje, ljudi na mene gledaju kao na neko malo čudo, stvaraoca.” Safetov slikarski talenat uočio je u djetinjstvu Avdija, muž majkine mu sestre. Često su se družili na Bistriku. Bio je trgovac, koji je dolazio u dodir s knjigama i ljudima. U to vrijeme u Sarajevu, gdje se zimi grijala jedna prostorija u kojoj bi znalo sjediti 20, 30 ljudi, Safet je običavao
slikati u ćošku. Nije imao materijale, ali zanesenost slikarstvom je već odapela svoje strijele.
prisjećajući se bolnog povratka s beogradske akademije na koju nije primljen.
“Avdija je govorio: ‘Pustite ga, on će biti veliki.’ Pripadam narodu, ili području, bez organizovane strukture koja bi podržala svoje najbolje. Imao sam događaje u životu, koji su me mogli zaobići da sam imao savjetnika koji bi mi ukazao na šeme puta vidjevši moje radove. Bio sam već genije, veliki majstor nakon sarajevske škole. Trebao sam da odem. Ali doživio sam poraze”, kaže Safet,
“Vratili su me, vjerovatno kao neko čudo od stvaraoca, oni su voljeli ljude s kursevima iz gimnazije, ljude koji nisu imali kontakta s materijama. To je za mene bio poraz u sistemu obrazovanja, veliki poraz za moj put i za ono u što sam vjerovao. Najgore je bilo u zanatskoj sredini u kojoj sam odrastao. Otac mi je bio obućar, svi su moji radili s kožom. Iz ekonomskih razloga, čim se stasa za posao, radilo se. Bili smo muhadžiri koji su pobjegli iz Rogatice, Foče, Goradžda, iz tog haosa. A ja sam bio halaljen. Posebno mi je to teško palo zbog oca, koji je prebolio moj odlazak, jer je vjerovao da je njegov Safet najbolji.” Poslije će Safet uvidjeti još nešto, da se svi pristigli radovi uopšte ne otvaraju. Radeći na akademiji gledao je na hiljade fascikli složenih u sali, dok asistenti, koji trebaju da idu na more, ili na Savu, pregledaju tek određeni broj površno. Sve je bilo pitanje sreće. Ovaj poraz dugo će ga boljeti, postat će ranjiv, osjetljiv, ali će ga istovremeno formirati. Mica Todo-

POČITELJSKI ATELJE rović, profesorica u srednjoj školi u Sarajevu, koja je Safeta veoma voljela, ponudila je podršku znajući da se svašta dešava i da studenti ne prolaze samo zahvaljujući svom talentu, dok su sve druge strukture izostale. “Ostalo je uvjerenje da ću nastaviti i još jače prionuti.” Akademiju likovnih umjetnosti u Beogradu Safet upisuje 1964., 1969. diplomira, a 1972. završava i postdiplomski studij u klasi profesorice Ljubice Sokić. “Ispred svog rada uvijek sam bio duboko uvjeren i sretan. Nije bilo dileme. Odete u muzej, napravite usporedbu, i znate gdje ste. Kreacija počinje kada pređeš liniju naukovanja, muke, kada se vineš u prostore. Rad, ono što sam postizao, za mene su jedna velika pjesma i zadovoljstvo.”
Iza njega je internacionalna karijera, mnoštvo nagrada, priznanja, izložbe u evropskim i svjetskim galerijama i muzejima. Sreća je, veli, što se stvaralački poriv obnavlja svaki dan i umjetnik uvijek nalazi nove izazove koje će drugi razumjeti kada ih vide. U stvaralačkom procesu važnu ulogu igra samoća. Ranije bi se njegova supruga, koja je bila slikarka, našla prva pred djelom, a poslije svi drugi znalci ili prijatelji sa svojim viđenjem. A kako znati da je jedno djelo završena priča, upitali smo ga. “Znao sam prekrečiti već napravljene radove. Ima neka mjera, nešto što je važno. Moja supruga je insistirala i voljela da ne nastavljam dalje. Često bih ugnjavio radove, želeći da budu bolji i savršeniji. Zapravo se radilo o osjećaju mjere. To ne možete uvijek.
“Ovdje mogu raditi dva sata i izaći u baštu, prošetati, ili leći na travu. Izađete iz ateljea, i vi ste već pod nekom lozom koju ste vi posadili, kod smokve koju ste vi kalemili” Često pogriješite. Tipovi poput mene imaju čitavu viziju kako će nešto izgledati, kompletna izložba, sve to prođe kroz vlastiti mehanizam, tako da je sama egzekucija jednostavna. Kada si vješt, zanat ti je u rukama, radovi nastaju kao jedna bujica.” OŽIVLJAVANJE POČITELJA Kao u Hronikama Narnije, gdje junaci priče kroz magični prolaz u ormaru otkrivaju drugačiji svijet i nove izazove, i velika drvena kapija na Safetovoj kući uvodi u svijet zasebnog ćudoređa. Ovdje vlada potpuni smiraj. Okružuje vas mašta, osjetite čistotu svijesti, likovnost i kreativnost kompletnog ambijenta. Bašte 21

“UREDIO BIH POČITELJ, OŠIŠAO ULICE, ŠIPKE, POMEO, DAO MALO ČISTOĆE KAO I SVE DRUGE JEDNOSTAVNE STVARI VAŽNE SAMO DA SE POČNE” su izgrađene na različitim nivoima u okruženju spektakularnih počiteljskih znamenitosti, s pogledom na rijeku Neretvu. Povlačeći pogled s podnožja prema vrhovima Počitelja, redaju se originalni zidovi. Pokušavamo zamisliti kako bi izgledao koncert sakralne muzike koja bi se širila s veleljepnih građevina o čemu Safet mašta. Gledamo turiste koji se uspinju stepenicama, ali se ovdje ne zadržavaju. Mada fascinantan po mogućnostima, Počitelj ostaje zaboravljen. Neki njegovi monumenti čak nisu spojeni na gradsku rasvjetu. A tako je malo potrebno da Počitelj oživi i otvori svoja vrata turističkoj industriji. Svoje misli Safet nam opisuje: “Došao sam 1975. godine i prvu kuću kupio 1976. Nikada do dana današnjeg nisam vidio vrata hamama otvorena, a ne da sam ušao u njega. Hamam je božanstvena struktura jednog vremena, ponos ljudi koji 22
mogu pričati o tome kako smo se kupali. Da tu sjedi jedna djevojka, ona bi mogla znatiželjnicima poželjeti dobrodošlicu i pokazati žensko i muško kupatilo. Svako će u kutiju spustiti nešto novca, ona će imati platu, a taj će prostor biti otvoren. Možda je ovo najgrublji način, ali jedno biće koje nema posla će imati svojoj honorar. Neće čučati s trešnjama, a ima hamam”, kaže Safet, te nastavlja: “Uredio bih Počitelj, ošišao ulice, šipke, pomeo, dao malo čistoće kao i sve druge jednostavne stvari važne samo da se počne. Dvorište džamije je divno, tu možemo imati fini hor koji će pjevati sakralne pjesme i sevdalinke. Umjetnička kolonija data je Udruženju likovnih umjetnika na upravljanje. Ali, upravljati znači mnogo štošta. Krajnje je drsko i necivilizovano bagatelisati i držati zatvorenim objekat koji može pet ljudi da zapošljava i pravi prihod. To je uređena begovska kuća. U predratnim vremenima, kada je Bosna imala velike firme, izdvajalo
se za kulturu, ali danas je drugačije. Objekat treba očistiti, zaposliti ljude, a onda kada se ostvari zarada pozvati umjetnike da nedjelju dana stvaraju. To je jedino tako moguće. Objekat mora i može da radi cijelu godinu. Stanje medrese je za plakati. Zarasla je, oboreni su joj dimnjaci, cure krovovi... Sve se mora uvezati i staviti pod odgovarajuće ingerencije.” Safet uskoro planira organizovati druženja na kojima će se naći pjesnici i muzičari. I sam uživa u sviranju. Gitara ga vjerno prati još od srednjoškolskih dana. Prije nego što nas je ispratio, zasvirao je i zapjevao. Simbolično ubrao graničice murve s kojima smo se držeći ih u ruci spuštali niz kamene stepenice Počitelja, svjesni da o veličini Safeta Zeca ne govore samo njegova djela. Ličnost puna duše, sa suverenim nastupom koji izaziva poštovanje, spremna na šalu, srdačni stisak ruke i topli zagrljaj gostiju, ostaje posebna crtica u memoarima života.

ach era builds its own towns. Original forever, just like Počitelj. Each era has its own people. Unique people who paint their town with all their colours and push the limits. That is what Safet Zec is like. In their towns, such people tell fascinating stories through their works of art. PASSION OR MADNES Safet Zec does not have just one home. In addition to Venice and Sarajevo, in the 1970s he started to be inextricably tied to Počitelj, a town he and his wife Ivanka came to visit because of an art colony which was held there at the time. The feelings he developed back then were, and still are, based on aesthetic references, the love of antiquities, and the respect for history. “Certain types of people, let’s call them artists, but other cultured people as well, get excited about a place like this. Travel has become a massive part of our society, something that’s simple and easy to do, and everyone thinks that tourism is the most important branch of our economy. People are more than happy to meet up in a place like this,” 24
POČITELJ ATELIER “I can work here for a couple of hours and then step into the garden, take a little walk, or lie down on the grass. You come out of the atelier and you’re already under a vine that you planted, near the fig tree that you grafted.” says Safet, who felt awfully excited when he told his parents that he had bought a house in Počitelj. But for his wife and him, who were quite young at the time, construction work was complicated, and they could not even fathom just how complicated it actually was because of the overwhelming love they had for each other, which would muddle the view of all the things that come with buying a house.
“Restoration work was painful in these conditions, but I couldn’t just sit there and do nothing. So, soon enough I set up a press on the ground floor room and created a graphic setting where I could do my painting on my painting boards. I would watch the masters and paint. There was a lot of enthusiasm. There were several crises as well, but, fortunately, I endured. Year after year, I kept learning about what restoration was, getting to know people, collecting money, and creating a more comfortable environment. Even today, I still make improvements or add things. The passion or madness we’ve invested in this place has no bearing on our children. With us, with me, it ends. I’m not imposing any obligation on them. If they like it, they’re welcome to take care of it.” Having lost his wife, and living on his own, Safet entered a sentimental phase. Everything still reminds him of her, of their journey together. His wonderful children make up for the loss of his beloved wife. ARTWORKS AS A SOURCE OF GREAT JOY AND PLEASURE
“I felt rather content when I realised I was mature enough to buy a house. A house is a house. But when my mother saw it, she said, “If this place becomes a house, I’ll become a girl (laughs).”
Safet paints in different ateliers, but there is something about the one in Počitelj that the other ateliers do not have. “I can work here for a couple of hours and then step outside into the garden, take a walk or lie down on the grass. As soon as you step outside the atelier you’re already under a vine that you planted, near a fig tree that you grafted.”
What was once an overgrown outdoor space full of fig trees, mint and scents spreading in the air as Safet and Ivanka walked through it, has transformed into a beautiful, ar-
Safet produced some of his greatest works in Počitelj—his entire graphic oeuvre and dozens of painting boards that were stolen during the war. To this day, he does not know
where they are. He re-created some of the paintings from his pre-war body of work. Počitelj is an infinite source of inspiration for the master of a wide array of subjects and groups. “Fortunately, I’m a kind of painting madman. Everything excites and provokes me in a way. I’ve matured, and I’m very powerful in the practical, performing part. I’ve carried out large and fascinating projects. By continuously nurturing love and passion, I kept getting better. I enjoy the recognition, people see me as a little miracle, a creator.” Avdija, his mother’s sister’s husband, noticed his talent for painting at an early age. They would often hang out in Bistrik. Avdija was a merchant who came into contact with books and people. At the time, a single room that could seat 20-30 people would only be heated in winter. Safet used to paint in the corner of that room in Sarajevo. He had no painting material, but his passion for painting had already surfaced. “Avdija would say: ‘Let him be; he’ll be great.’ I belong to a nation, or an area, without an organised structure which would support its most talented members. Over the years, I could’ve avoided some of the things that have happened to me if I had an advisor who’d show me the way to do things when he saw my work. I was already a genius, a great master after graduating from the Sarajevo art school. I should’ve left. I’ve had my share of setbacks along the way,” says Safet, recalling the painful memory of returning from the Belgrade academy where he was rejected. “They sent me back, probably because I was an artist who creates miracles. They liked people with grammar school courses, peo-
ple without any experience with substances used in painting. I thought it was a flaw in the education system, a great defeat for me on my path and for what I believed in. The worst economic situation was in the skilled craftsmen environment I grew up in. My father was a shoemaker; all my relatives worked with leather. For economic reasons, as soon as you were old enough to work, you’d work. We were muhajirs (migrants) who fled from Rogatica,
Foča, Goražde… we fled from the chaos. My father had allowed me to pursue art as a career because he believed that his Safet was the best, so I really took the academy’s rejection to heart.” Later on, Safet will come to realise something else: all the works submitted to the academy are not seen at all. Working at the academy, he would see thousands upon thousands of folders stacked in a 25

lecture hall and watch teaching assistants fleetingly examine a limited number of those folders because they were in a rush to go to the seaside or the Sava River. It was all a matter of luck. This defeat affected him deeply. He became vulnerable, sensitive, but at the same time made him who he is. Mica Todorović, a teacher in the art school in Sarajevo, who loved Safet very much, offered her support knowing that all kinds of things happen and that students do not pass entrance exams merely thanks to their talent and disregarding any other circumstance, fact, or influence. “However, I was convinced that I’d stick with it and keep pushing onward.” Safet enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1964. He graduated in 1969, and in 1972 he completed his post-graduate studies in the class of Professor Ljubica Sokić. “Whenever I’d look at my paintings, I’d always feel self-confident and happy. There was no dilemma. You 26
go to a museum, make a comparison, and you know where you stand. Creation begins when you cross the line of apprenticeship, hardship, when you soar into the air. For me, the artworks I created, what I’ve accomplished, is a source of incredible joy and I take great pleasure in it.” He has had an international career and received a multitude of awards and recognitions. His works have been exhibited in art galleries and museums in Europe and throughout the world. Luckily, he says, the creative urge is renewed every day, and the artist always finds new challenges. Others will understand those challenges when they see them. Solitude plays an important role in the creative process. His wife, who was a painter, would be the first to see his newest works, and other connoisseurs or friends with their views would follow. And how does one know when a work of art is finished, we asked him. “I’d sometimes paint over my pa-
intings that haven’t worked. There was an issue with proportion, something that mattered. My wife insisted that I shouldn’t work on them any longer, and she loved it if I didn’t. I’d frequently overdo my paintings in an attempt to make them better, to perfect them. It was actually about maintaining a sense of proportion. You can’t always do that. You often make mistakes. Fellows like me have got this whole picture in our minds of how something is supposed to look, an entire exhibition. It all follows its own mechanism, so execution itself is simple. When you’re skilled, when you’ve mastered the craft, your paint brush flows across the canvas like a fast river and you create a painting before you know it.” BRINGING POČITELJ TO LIFE Just like in the Chronicles of Narnia, where the heroes of the story discover a different world to explore and new challenges to tackle through a magical passage in the wardrobe, the large wooden gate in front of Safet’s house takes you to another world with its own set of rules, mystery and
magic. It is utterly peaceful. Imagination is in the air. You can feel the purity of consciousness, artistry, and creativity everywhere. Terraced gardens, overlooking the Neretva River, are situated close to the spectacular landmarks of Počitelj. As you look away from the foothills towards the peaks of Počitelj, you see the town walls. We are trying to imagine what a religious music concert would sound like if we could hear the music coming from the town’s magnificent buildings, just the way Safet imagines it. We watch tourists as they climb the stairs, but they do not linger here. Even though the possibilities are exciting to contemplate, Počitelj remains forgotten. Some of the monuments are not even illuminated. And so little is needed to bring Počitelj to life and open its doors to the tourism industry. Safet describes his thoughts to us:
mosque is wonderful. We could have a nice choir there which would sing religious songs and sevdalinka. The Association of Fine Artists was entrusted with the management of the art colony. But, management involves many different things. It’s extremely impudent and uncivilised to trivialise and keep a facility that can employ five people and generate income closed. It’s a bey’s house. Before the war, when there were a lot of large companies in Bosnia, arts and culture were given money in the budget, but nowadays it’s different. The bey’s house should be cleaned, people should be employed, and when profit is made, artists should be invited to produce artwork for a week. That’s the only way to do it. It’s got to and can work all year round. The madrasa is in a dire state; it’s completely unacceptable. It’s overgrown with weeds,
the chimneys have collapsed, the roof is leaking… All of it needs to be sorted out and managed by the relevant authority.” Safet plans to host gatherings where poets and musicians would meet very soon. He enjoys playing music. The guitar has been his faithful companion since his art school days. Before he saw us off, he played and sang a little. He symbolically picked a few mulberry branches. Holding them in our hands, we went down the stone steps of Počitelj, aware that the greatness of Safet Zec is not only told by his artwork. He is a very soulful person. He addresses you in a manner that is awe-inspiring. He is ready to joke around and exchange a hearty handshake and a warm hug with his guests. His story is compelling enough to earn him a place in a memoir.
“I came here in 1975 and bought my first house in 1976. To this day, I’ve never seen the door of the hammam (a Turkish bath) open, let alone entered it. Hammam is a divine structure from a time past, the pride of people who can only tell stories about how we used to bathe in it. If there was a girl sitting there, she’d welcome the curious visitor into the hammam and show them to the female and male sections. Everyone would drop some money into the box to pay for the service, she’d earn a salary, and the hamman would be open. Perhaps ‘m speaking harshly, but a jobless person would earn some money. She wouldn’t be sitting idly when there’s a hammam for her to work at,” says Safet, and continues: “I’d clean Počitelj, trim the trees, wash the fences, sweep the streets, clean up a little bit, and just act as the little push needed to get things started. na turneji širom svijeta podržava lokalne projekte

nicijativa „Pridružite se Porsche vožnji“ počela je početkom juna svojom prvom etapom, od Stuttgarta do Leipziga. Porsche Taycan će se, tokom narednih godina, voziti na brojne destinacije na pet kontinenata. Cilj: Projekti lokalnog obrazovanja i osnaživanja će biti pokrenuti u svakoj fazi putovanja, u skladu sa lokalnim potrebama. Teme koji će biti obuhvaćene kreću se od zaštite okoliša i osiguranja dobrih radnih i životnih uslova do jačanja društvene povezanosti. U Leipzigu će u fokusu biti „Porsche Safari“, Porscheov program edukacije o okolišu. „Društveni angažman je važan dio naše Porsche kulture”, kaže Albrecht Reimold, član odbora za proizvodnju i logistiku u Porsche AG i pokrovitelj ove inicijative. „Kao društveno odgovorna kompanija, kroz inicijativu ‘Pridružite se Porsche vožnji’ želimo odigrati svoju ulogu u stvaranju svijeta vrijednog 30
življenja, kako sada, tako i u budućnosti. Samo se zajedno, i ako savladamo geografske granice, možemo suočiti sa globalnim izazovima našeg vremena. Cilj Porsche vožnje je pružiti podsticaj za nove projekte, promovisati postojeće programe i dati trajni doprinos poboljšanju uslova života.” Porsche sebe vidi kao dio globalne zajednice u smislu vrijednosti i kao partnera društvu. Fokus je na mladima ili osobama u nepovoljnom položaju kojima je potrebna podrška i mogućnosti obrazovanja. Cilj je poboljšati njihove uslove života na trajan i održiv način. Inicijativa je osmišljena tako da traje najmanje dvije godine i prvenstveno je usmjerena na osnaživanje mladih ljudi. Drugom stanicom za Taycan već je imenovana Švicarska, gdje će u fokusu biti projekat inkluzije. Daljnje faze u Francuskoj i Kini su planirane za 2022. godinu.
FOKUS PRVE STANICE: EDUKACIJA O OKOLIŠU Na Porscheovoj lokaciji u Leipzigu, Saksonija – koja predstavlja prvu destinaciju – proizvođač sportskih automobila se posvetio očuvanju izvornog prirodnog okruženja i implementirao je koncept održivog pašnjaka. Od 2002. godine, nekadašnje paradno tlo je pretvoreno u jedinstveni prirodni prostor u obliku off-road područja u Porsche Leipzigu. Na tih 132 hektara se nalazi 100 „Heck“ goveda i Exmoor ponija, kao i tri miliona pčela medarica i brojnih divljih životinja, uključujući zečeve, jelene i fazane. Od 2018. godine, porodice, djeca i školska odjeljenja mogu doći na obilazak, u pratnji ekološkog edukatora, i istraživati lokalnu floru i faunu u ovom off-road području, tokom „Porsche Safari“ programa.

TAYCAN Taycan Tour Around the World Supports Local Projects
T
he ‘Join the Porsche Ride’ initiative starts today with its first stage running from Stuttgart to Leipzig. A Porsche Taycan will drive to numerous destinations on five continents over the coming years. The objective: local education and empowerment projects will be initiated at each stage of the journey, according to local needs. The subjects that will be covered range from protecting the environment and ensuring good working and living conditions to strengthening social cohesion. At the first destination in Leipzig, ‘Porsche Safari’, the Porsche environmental education programme, will be the focus. “Social engagement is an important part of our Porsche culture,” says Albrecht Reimold, Board Member for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG, and the sponsor of the initiative. “As a socially responsible company, we want to play our part through the ‘Join the Porsche Ride’ initiative in the creation of a world
worth living in, both now and in the future. Only together and across geographical boundaries can we meet the global challenges of our time. The Porsche Ride is intended to provide impetus for new projects, to promote existing programmes and to make a lasting contribution to improving living conditions.” Porsche sees itself as part of a global community of values and as a partner to society. The focus is on young or disadvantaged people who need support and educational opportunities. The goal is to improve their living conditions in a lasting and sustainable way. The ‘Join the Porsche Ride’ initiative is designed to run for at least two years and focuses primarily on empowering young people. The second stop for the Taycan has already been set for Switzerland, where an inclusion project will be the focus. Further stages in France and China are planned for 2022.
FOCUS OF THE FIRST STOP: ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION At the Porsche site in Leipzig, Saxony – the first destination – the sports car manufacturer has been committed to preserving the original natural environment and has implemented a sustainable grazing concept. Since 2002, a former parade ground has been turned into a unique space for nature in the form of the off-road area at Porsche Leipzig. The 132 hectares are home to 100 Heck cattle and Exmoor ponies as well as three million honey bees and numerous wild animals, including rabbits, deer and pheasants. Since 2018, families, children and school classes have been able to go on a discovery tour accompanied by an environmental educator and explore the local flora and fauna in the off-road area during the “Porsche Safari”. 31

odišnje konferencije kompanije BH Telecom iznova potvrđuju da tehnološki i telekomunikacijski lider u BiH uvijek ide korak dalje u ostvarivanju dobiti i realizaciji novih poslovnih projekata, kojima podržava razvoj različitih grana u BiH, dajući tako doprinos bh. društvu. U prošloj godini ostvarena dobit je veća za 48,5%, što je rezultat velikog rada, truda, entuzijazma i volje lojalnih radnika. DOSLJEDNOST U POSLOVANJU Šta je Vas kao čelnog čovjeka BH Telecoma posebno impresioniralo u protekloj godini? - Uvijek me raduje iznova svjedočiti dosljednosti BH Telecoma, koji ima nedvojbeno iskazan kontinuitet u svemu onome što najavi po pitanju poslovnih planova kao i same njihove realizacije. Kada smo obnovili saradnju sa Sarajevo Film Festivalom, jednim od najprestižnijih događaja u regionu i Evropi, istupili smo veoma ambiciozno. Najavili smo da želimo uspostaviti najveću domaću platformu za produkciju audio-vizuelnih sadržaja. Već na drugoj press konferenciji objavili smo šta smo do tada uradili, a za vrijeme moga obraćanja na dodjeli nagrade Srce Sarajeva za najbolju igranu seriju, objavili smo novi javni poziv za koji smo izdvojili 18 miliona maraka za

Lijepo smo se nasmijali i uživali u onome što smo vidjeli. U ovoj godini planirano je snimanje još pet igranih serija. Ljubitelje sporta raduje saradnja BH Telecoma s BHRT-om, zahvaljujući čemu se utakmice nogometne reprezentacije BiH vraćaju na ekrane svih građana BiH. Kojim motivima ste se vodili?
Jeste li Vi ljubitelj fudbala?
- Jedna od naših temeljnih vrijednosti je društvena odgovornost. BH Telecom je u posljednjih pet godina kroz sponzorstva, reklamno-sponzorske ugovore i aranžmane realizovao kroz tih 2500 projekata nešto više od 18 miliona maraka, a donirao je pet miliona maraka u segmentu 34
- Najljepša stvar bit će da će svi građani BiH bez ikakvog uslovljanja moći pratiti nogometne utakmice reprezentacije BiH do 2028. Poslovnom aranžmanu prethodile su poslovne odluke komercijalne prirode, jer mi želimo našim gledaocima da obezbijedimo kvalitetan i ekskluzivan sadržaj. Svjesni smo
- Lično preferiram pratiti neke druge sportove, poput auto-moto utrka i MMA borbi. Naravno, navijam za našu reprezentaciju i gledam utakmice. PROFESIONALNOST, ETIKA I LOJALNOST Biti generalni direktor jedne od najjačih bh. kompanija bez sumnje sa sobom nosi ogromne izazove. Kako se Vi nosite sa stresom? - Stres je zbog užurbanog načina
života postao sveprisutan. Ne bih bio iskren kada bih rekao da sam na ovoj poziciji, ili kod donošenja odluka, imun na stres. Pokušavam ga kontrolisati i prepoznati signale. Radoholičar sam i posvećenost poslu za mene je veoma važna. Ako nosite u sebi i posvećenost i odgovornost, to obično znači sagorijevanje. Vrijeme provedeno s porodicom moja je najbolja antistres terapija. Nekada je dovoljno samo malo smanjiti tempo da bi se čovjek resetovao. Imam visok stepen empatije, i uvijek su mi ljudi najvažniji. Često se sekiram i zbog stanja drugih, pokušavam pomoći, tako ponesem dodatni teret s namjerom da se određena pitanja riješe. Moje radno vrijeme nije od 8 do 16, ono traje mnogo duže. Zahvalan sam porodici što ima uvijek visok stepen razumijevanja. Slobodno vrijeme i vikende potpuno joj posvećujem. Tada se punim energijom i spremam za nove izazove. Kako započinjete radni dan? - Sve obaveze od prethodnog dana su završene s prethodnim danom. Takva sam osoba. Imam sistematičan pristup. Radni dan započinjem u 7:30 u kabinetu pregledom svih aktuelnih obaveza. Imam mnogo sastanaka svakodnevno. Kod kuće doručkujem, a ovdje uz prvu kafu prelistam novine i krenem s pripremom. Kojim vrijednostima u radu polažete najviše pažnje i jeste li strog šef? - Volim osjetiti prisutnost najvećeg stepena posvećnosti, profesionalnosti, etike i lojalnosti prema kompaniji. Može se reći da sam strog šef. Često sam perfekcionista, i toga sam svjestan. S druge strane, imam visok stepen empatije i razumijevanja u svakom pogledu, a rekao bih da imam i definisan prag tolerancije. Trudim se da saradnike
upoznam s očekivanjima i namjerama. Nisam do sada bio izložen bilo kakvim izazovima. Moj tim je veoma dobar. Često se sjetim izreke Sir Richarda Bransona, koja poručuje da ljude treba trenirati toliko dobro da se sutra mogu osamostaliti, ali ih tretirati tako dobro da to nikada ne požele. VOLIM PUTOVATI Imate li omiljenu turističku destinaciju? - Više je takvih, posebno u BiH, koja je prepuna prirodnih ljepota. Volim putovati, upoznavati nove ljude i destinacije. Neka mjesta srcu dra-
ga su u Dalmaciji, neka na Azurnoj obali, no, posebno lijepo se osjećam u Opatiji i tamo sam često s porodicom. Šta smatrate svojim najvećim životnim uspjehom? - Porodica je moj najveći životni uspjeh. U BH Telecomu sam od 2005. godine. Na svom poslovnom putu, od pripravnika sam prošao sve nivoe do izbora za generalnog direktora. Vlada FBiH smatra da radim dobar posao i da BH Telecom zahvaljujući tome ostvaruje izvanredne rezultate. H Telecom’s annual conferences reaffirm that, as the technological and telecommunications leader in B&H, BH Telecom is always a step ahead of the others in making a profit and implementing new business projects that support the development of different business industries in the country, thus contributing to Bosnian-Herzegovinian society. Its last year’s profit was 48.5% higher than the year before, which is the result of the hard work, effort, enthusiasm, and dedication its loyal employees have put in. The overall increase in BH Telecom’s market share shows a high customer satisfaction level. In addition, in the previous year, its customer base increased by 100,000 people. The General Manager of BH Telecom, Sedin Kahriman, who has been with the company since he was an intern, says that he is always inspired by people who are happy with the results they accomplish. The credit for BH Telecom’s results goes to a team of people, and people are 36

From among the 50 projects submitted, BH Telecom has chosen seven television series to shoot as part of BH ContentLab. Two of them have already been shot: Kotlina (Mountain Valley) directed by Danis Tanović, and Na rubu pameti (On the Edge of Reason) directed by Elmir Jukić.
As the man in charge of BH Telecom, what were you truly impressed about in the past year? - I’m always happy to see BH Telecom’s consistency. Without doubt, it continuously achieves the targets and milestones it sets. When we renewed our cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Festival, one of the most prestigious events in the region and in Europe, we set ambitious goals for ourselves. We announced that we wanted to establish the largest domestic audio and video content production platform. At the second press conference, we spoke about what we had done up to that point, and during my speech at the Heart of Sarajevo awards ceremony for the best TV series, I announced that we were launching a new public call worth 18 million BAM for film professionals, authors, and feature film screenplays and TV series scripts.
We’re proud of what we saw. B&H is blessed with highly successful film professionals and an excellent film industry. We knew from the beginning that this was the formula for success. Kotlina is, I’m convinced, something completely different from anything that’s been filmed in the region in the past 4-5 years, just like the sitcom Na rubu pameti. It was quite amusing, and we enjoyed it a lot. Five more TV series are planned to be shot this year. Some of them will be aired for the first time in September, but a few of them will also be aired at the Sarajevo Film Festival as pilot projects. All our customers and the people of B&H can expect an interesting and fun September.

I’m really impressed with this endeavour. In the past few years, BH Telecom has supported over 2,500 different projects. In the last five years, through sponsorships, advertising and sponsorship agreements, and other arrangements, BH Telecom has invested slightly more than 18 million BAM in 2,500 projects, and donated 5 million BAM in educational, scientific, and charitable causes. It’s difficult to find a sports team and important projects in the country that BH Telecom hasn’t supported or that BH Telecom hasn’t been strongly supportive of since they were established. BH Telecom is a leader in the telecommunications market. In essence, social responsibility isn’t in the company code, but we’re aware of the way people perceive it, and when we’re making any kind of decision we consider how it’ll be perceived from the aspect of social responsibility.
We’re very dedicated to analysing the applications we receive, but once a final decision is made, we follow through, we follow the dynamics and try to bring new values to B&H. People have the perception that BH Telecom is the most socially responsible
company in the country. During the pandemic, when there was a major shift in the way people behave, we started wondering what we could do to help the people of B&H deal with the situation as best as possible. By this I mean all our customers, socia-

What motivated you to make this happen? - The best thing about it is that all B&H citizens will be able to watch B&H national football team’s matches until 2028 without any conditions. we made certain business decisions of a commercial nature, because we wanted to give our viewers quality and exclusive content. We’re aware of the challenges that our public broadcaster is facing and we wanted to give our support as a long-term partner, but we treated BHRT as a partner we could tell a wonderful story with and give the citizens of B&H the chance to watch our national team’s football matches. We’re proud to have made this happen, because in some countries in the region public broadcasters have failed to make such arrangements and large telecoms haven’t been able to acquire the rights to broadcast their national team’s football matches. Are you a football lover? - Personally, I prefer following some other sports, such as motor racing and MMA fighting. I root for our national football team, of course, and I watch their games. PROFESSIONALISM, ETHICS AND LOYALTY As General Manager of one of the most powerful companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina you must be facing enormous challenges. How do you cope with stress? - Stress has become an omnipresent feature of our hectic lifestyle. I wouldn’t be honest if I said that I was immune to stress in this business role, or when I’m making decisions. I try to control it and identify the signals of stress. I’m a workaholic and dedication to work is very important to me. If you’re both committed and responsible, you usually burn out. Time spent with family is the best anti-stress therapy for me. Sometimes, slowing down just a bit is all you need to reset. I’m highly empathetic, and people always matter to me the most. I oftentimes worry about other 38
the newspaper and start preparing for the day ahead. What values do you pay the most attention to in your work and are you a strict boss?

I don’t work an 8 to 4 job, my workday lasts much longer. I’m grateful to my family for always being so understanding. I dedicate my free time exclusively to my family. That’s when I recharge my batteries and prepare to take on new challenges.
- I like to see a high level of commitment, professionalism, ethics, and loyalty to the company. You can say that I’m a strict boss. I’m often a perfectionist, and I’m aware of it. On the other hand, I’m very empathetic and understanding in every sense of the word, but I’d say that I’m also a very tolerant man. I try to be clear about my expectations and intentions with my associates. I haven’t been exposed to any challenges so far. I’ve got a solid team. I often think of what Sir Richard Branson said. He said that you should train people well enough so they can leave, but you should also treat them well enough so they don’t want to. I LOVE TRAVELLING Have you got a favourite travel destination? - I’ve got more than one, particularly in B&H, a country with incredible natural scenery. I love travelling, meeting new people, and exploring new destinations. I hold a few spots in Dalmatia dear to my heart, and a few on the Cote d’Azur, but Opatija has a special feel to it, so I go there with my family quite often.
How do you kick-start your workday?

- All the tasks I was supposed to complete yesterday day are completed yesterday. I’m like that. I have a systematic approach. My workday typically begins 7:30 a.m. I get into the office and review my schedule for the day. I have a lot of meetings every day. I have breakfast at home, and here, at the office, sipping on my first cup of coffee, I flip through
- My greatest accomplishment in life is my family. I’ve been with BH Telecom since 2005. I started out as a trainee, moved up within the company, and was elected General Manager. The Government of FB&H believes that I’m doing a good job and that I’ve helped BH Telecom achieve exceptional results. That’s great to hear.

On July 22, the diva of Bosnian and Herzegovinian sevdah Amira Medunjanin will perform in a big concert in Sarajevo. After nearly four years and a large number of concerts she held around the world, Medunjanin will hold a concert at the “Mirza Delibašić” hall. The name of the concert is “We will sing what our heart knows” and it will include the full oeuvre of her work in the past 19 years. A FREE CONCERT BY PETAR GRAŠO Sarajevski kiseljak will celebrate its 130th birthday with a big, free concert by one of the biggest regional music stars, Petar Grašo. The concert will be held on 4 August at Trg Prve brigade policije Stari Grad (the Square of the First Brigade of the Stari Grad Police), opposite the Sarajevo City Hall. City residents and visitors are welcome to attend this festive event, which will further bolster the city’s summer offer. Na festivalu se predstavljaju novi filmovi iz cijelog svijeta, dok okosnica programa, kojeg je inače akreditovao FIAPF – International Federation of Film Producers Associations, pruža uvid u najnoviju filmsku produkciju regiona.
SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL Sarajevo Film Festival is indeed one of the largest film festivals in Southeast Europe and one of the most important ones on the continent. This year, it is scheduled to take place from 12-19 August. SFF will most definitely be not only the perfect place to watch the best films and series, but also the best place to party in Sarajevo. New films from all over the world will be screened, while the backbone of the festival programme, which was accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), will give the audience an insight into the region’s latest film production.
SKOKOVI NA BENTBAŠI „Bentbaša Cliff Diving“ je takmičenje u skokovima u vodu koje iz godine u godinu postaje sve veća i prepoznatljivija sportsko-turistička manifestacija koja promovira Sarajevo i BiH. Dvadeset pet takmičara će 6. i 7. augusta izvoditi skokove u dvije kategorije: High diving (figurativni skokovi) i tradicionalni skokovi u vodu. Dan poslije održat će se „Bentbaša summer event“ gdje će mladi umjetnici – street art „Obojena klapa“ izvoditi live art act, te predstaviti svoja djela na izložbi uz muzički program u saradnji sa „Matinee Sarajevo“, koji će cjelokupnom događaju dati epitet modernog ljetnog dešavanja u jezgri Starog Grada i jeku ljetne turističke sezone u našem glavnom gradu. BENTBAŠA CLIFF DIVING “Bentbaša Cliff Diving” is a diving competition that has been growing in popularity recently. It has become a recognisable sporting event and a tourist attraction serving as a catalyst for promoting both Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 6-7 August, twenty-five competitors will compete in two diving disciplines at the competition: high diving (figurative high diving) and traditional diving. The following day, “Bentbaša Summer Event” will take place. It will feature young street artists belonging to a group called “Obojena klapa”. They will perform a live art act and present their artwork at an exhibition. “Matinee Sarajevo” will play music at the event giving it a modern feel for the high summer season in the heart of Sarajevo’s Old Town. 43

Many people want to spend their holidays on the banks of one of the cleanest European rivers. Let your eyes rest as you gaze upon the river. You can do it from a camper too. There is a campsite in Bosanska Krupa that appeals to a large number of campers. Covering 10,000 square metres and sitting right next to the Una River, the campsite is open from April to September every year. It offers guests sunbathing and swimming platforms, a terrace above the river, free internet access, football, volleyball, and badminton courts, a table tennis table, and a children’s playground with a slide, swings, a see-saw, and a wooden house. Lovers of the Una River also like to stay at campsites in Bihać. The Una Aqua Centre situated on the river’s heart-shaped islets is quite well-known. Spending the night in a tent, below a sky filled with millions of stars, on the Japodski otoci (Japodi’s Islets) feels like spending the night in a “million-star hotel”. Just looking at the emerald coloured river flowing by will relax you, while its icy freshness will help ease the hot summer days. In Foča, near the Drina River, there are a few interesting campsites. The first private RV campsite in Bosnia and Herzegovina is named after the Drina River. Situated two kilometres downstream from Foča, it sits on the river’s left bank. “Drina” The people who run the campsite organise one-day and multi-day rafting trips on the Tara and Drina rivers and one-day hiking tours in Zelengora, Maglić, Ljubišnja, and Radovina mountains. Krajem mjeseca (2426.6) planirano je održavanje Jazz festivala „MoonJune“ na platou ispod vodopada. Bit će to jedinstven događaj u cijeloj državi ove godine, jer će u Jajce doputovati neka od vodećih svjetskih imena jazza.
JULI NA DASKAMA KOJE ŽIVOT ZNAČE Mjesec juli tradicionalno je u znaku pozorišnih/kazališnih igara BiH, koje organizira Dom kulture Jajce, a ove godine trajat će od 29.6. do 08.7.2022. godine. I ove godine ugostit će vodeće teatre u BiH s najboljim predstavama. Dan poslije zavr-
šetka Igara, 09. i 10.7.2022. u Jajcu će se održati tradicionalni „Dani srednjovjekovlja“ koji će u dva dana oživjeti našu daleku prošlost i vratiti nas u srednji vijek među vitezove i kraljeve. Na manifestaciji sudjeluju brojne viteške skupine iz zemlje i inozemstva. Za ljubitelje domaće rock scene, 16.7.2002. na tvrđavi u Jajcu bit će upriličen koncert grupe Zabranjeno pušenje.
NEIZOSTAVNI SKOKOVI S VODOPADA Ljubitelji adrenalinskih sportova i ove godine će moći uživati u Međunarodnim skokovima s vodopada, koji će se održati 13.8.2022. U večernjem programu ove manifestacije na tvrđavi u Jajcu održat će se koncert popularnog benda Crvena jabuka. Manifestacija koja je svojim nazivom i bogatim sadržajima obogatila kulturni život u Jajcu i ove će se godine održati krajem augusta. Riječ je o „Desantu na Jajce“ koji će trajati od 26. do 28.8.2022. Ljubitelji filmske umjetnosti i ove godine će moći uživati u projekciji najboljih filmova Sarajevo film festivala. U muzičkom dijelu programa, nastupit će jedan od najpopularnijih bendova na našim prostorima Dubioza kolektiv, potom poznati turski DJ Burak Yeter, a za ljubitelja sevdaha nezaboravnu večer u Jajcu priredit će naš poznati autor Damir Imamović. Ovo je samo dio bogatog programa koji
očekuje sve posjetitelje Jajca tokom ove sezone.
ADRENALINSKI PARK ZA NAJMLAĐE Ljubitelji ekstremnih sadržaja i ove godine će moći uživati u vožnji zip-lineom preko kanjona Vrbasa i veličanstvenog vodopada. Za najmlađe posjetitelje bit će otvoren adrenalinski park u blizini vodopada s brojnim sadržajima. Plivska jezera s jedinstvenim vodenicama tradicionalno privlače najveći broj posjetitelja. Nezaboravne vožnje raznim plovilima na Velikom plivskom jezeru i ove će godine biti dio ponude, ali i drugi sadržaji koje jajački ugostitelji pripremaju za predstojeću sezonu. Plaža na Malom plivskom jezeru obogaćena je novim ugosti-

Summer of 2022 in Jajce
THE ROYAL TOWN OF JAJCE IS ONE OF THE OLDEST, MOST FAMOUS AND MOST BEAUTIFUL TOWNS IN B&H AND THE REGION. EVERY YEAR IT ATTRACTS A GROWING NUMBER OF DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN TOURISTS. JAJCE WAS ONE OF THE FEW CITIES IN THE COUNTRY THAT ACHIEVED RELATIVELY GOOD TOURIST RESULTS EVEN DURING THE 2020 AND 2021 PANDEMIC YEARS. NEW TOURIST FACILITIES AND EVENTS The introduction of new tourist facilities and events, such as a unique zip line stretching across the Jajce Waterfalls, concerts on the plateau of the waterfall without an audience, but with live broadcasts, and other interesting events, attracted a large number of Bosnians and Herzegovinians to Jajce. Public Institution “Agency for Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage and Development of Tourist Potentials of the Town of Jajce”, in cooperation with the Municipality of Jajce and partners from the private sector, plans to further improve the tourist facilities and cultural events on offer in the upcoming tourist season for the 62
enjoyment of anyone who comes to visit Jajce.
MUSIC AND THE THUMPING NOISE OF CRASHING WATERFALLS In the interest of attracting as many foreign guests as possible, Jajce was presented at several international fairs this year. To that end, at the beginning of the tourist season,at the end of May,a concert of one of the most famous music stars in the world DJ James Jones was held on the plateau of the Jajce Waterfalls. It was organised in cooperation with the Paris-based agency “Cercle”, which has been arranging amazing concerts time in the most unusual locations throughout the world for quite some. During the month of
June, a two-day international motorcycle race, which was organised by the Moto Club “Padrino”, also took place in Jajce. At the end of the month (24-26 June), the “MoonJune” Jazz Festival will be held on the plateau below the waterfalls. It will be a unique event in the whole country this year, because some of the world’s leading jazz musicians will gather to perform in Jajce.
JULY ON A THEATRICAL STAGE WHICH MEANS THE WORLD TO ACTORS The month of July is traditionally marked by the Theatre Games of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an event organised by Jajce Cultural Center, which will take place from 29 June to 8 July 2022 this year. This year,

Numerous knight groups from the country and abroad will partake in it. For fans of the local rock scene, Zabranjeno pušenje will give a concert at the fortress in Jajce on 16 July 2002.

In the music part of the programme, Dubioza kolektiv, one of the most popular bands in the region, will perform first, and Burak Yeter, the well-known Turkish DJ, will perform second. This is just a part of the rich programme that awaits all visitors to Jajce this season.
THE INEVITABLE HIGH DIVES FROM THE WATERFALLS
Adrenaline-seeking adventurers will be able to enjoy a zip line ride through the Vrbas Canyon and the magnificent waterfalls this year too. An adrenaline park near the waterfalls featuring a number of attractions for small children will be open. Pliva Lakes with their unique mills commonly attract the largest number of visitors. Unforgettable rides on various types of boats on the Large Pliva Lake will
Extreme sport lovers will be able to enjoy the International High Diving Competition from the Pliva Waterfalls scheduled for 18 August 2022. The event’s evening program will be held at the fortress in Jajce and include a concert by the popular band Crvena jabuka. Another event, which enhanced the cultural life of the Jajce community with is name and rich programme, will be held at the end of August this year too. MULTIKONFESIONALNA SREDINA Gračanicu krase i stari vjerski objekti - Bijela džamija ili džamija Ahmed-paše Budmilije koja je sagrađena u 17. stoljeću od istog vakifa koji je sagradio i sahat-kulu. Samo par stotina metara dalje nalazi se i Pravoslavna crkva ili Parohijski hram Vaznesenja gospodnjeg koji je 2013. godine proglašen nacionalnim spomenikom BiH. Blizu je i katolička crkva koja je sagrađena u neoromaničkom stilu, te posvećena Uznesenju blažene djevice Marije, također zaštićen na-
OAZA MIRA S LJEKOVITOM VODOM Banjsko-rekreacijski kompleks Terme Gračanica se nalaze na ulazu u Gračanicu, udaljene 500 metara od magistralnog puta Doboj-Tuzla. Termomineralna voda temperature se koristi pijenjem u banjskim uslovima, banjanjem u kadama kao i hidrokinezi-terapija u bazenima. THE MEDIEVAL TOWN OF SOKO

A few kilometres away from the town center is the highest peak of Mount Trebava—Vis picnic area—a family oasis of peace. In the beginning, it was a soybean settlement from the Neolithic, and through prehistoric and historic times there was life here, making Tuzla one of the oldest settlements in Europe with a continuity of living. PANNONIAN LAKES Tuzla is the only city in Europe with salt lakes and the only city in the world that has salt lakes, swimming spots and beaches in its centre. The lakes are rich in mineral salt water, which is pumped from underground by salt wells. The salinity of lake water corresponds to sea water which means that it contains 30-40 grams of salt 70
per litre. In addition to the pleasure of bathing in water, this water also has healing properties, especially in the treatment of infertility, rheumatic and respiratory diseases. In the centre of the park there is a monument to the first Bosnian king Tvrtko I Kotromanić. Apart from that, you must pose next to the monument dedicated to the great figures of Tuzla’s past, Ismet Mujezinović and Meša Selimović, which are located on the Tuzla promenade (Korzo).
If you head out for an evening walk around Tuzla, you will notice the youth that gather at the Freedom Square (Trg slobode), the largest square in B&H, where along with the music from nearby cafes, it is lively until the morning hours. Freedom Square is a place with cultural and historical monuments dating back to practically each period in history. ada dođete na Stari grad Srebrenik, rodno mjesto prvog bosanskog kralja Tvrtka Kotromanića, kao i princeze Elizabete Kotromanić, kraljice Ugarske i Poljske i danas možete osjetiti duh bosanskog kraljevstva. Zamislite... Zima, 1333. godine, 15. februar. Za stolom pod starim Srebr’nikom u svojim najljepšim odorama sjede bosanski Ban Stjepan II Kotromanić (1322. - 1353.) i predstavnici Dubrovačke Republike, te sklapaju međudržavni ugovor. Kako se u napisanoj povelji o ustupanju Stona, Pelješca, Prevlake i još nekih posjeda Dubrovačkoj Republici navodi, ugovor se potpisuje do zgorenja svijeta, a sav teritorij se daje u zamjenu za godišnji danak od 500 perpera. Ovaj ugovor je u historiji poznat kao Srebrenička povelja i napisana je u četiri primjerka, dva
primjerka bosančicom, a dva latinicom i svaka je potvrđena vladarevim zlatnim pečatom. Stari grad Srebrenik sagrađen je na visokoj, strmoj i skoro nepristupačnoj stijeni. Ispod najpristupačnijeg dijela grada napravljen je dubok prokop, tako da se u tvrđavu može doći samo preko mosta. Bedemi grada i vanjski dijelovi zidova svih kula i obora, koji su zajedno sa bedemima činili obrambeni omotač grada, su debeli oko 1,5 m. Tvrđava je sastavljena od tri povezana dijela s četiri kule i manjim dvorcem.

hen you get to the Old Town of Srebrenik, the birthplace of the first Bosnian king Tvrtko Kotromanić and princess Elizabeta Kotromanić, Queen of Hungary and Poland, you can still feel the spirit of the Bosnian kingdom. Imagine ... it is the winter of 1333, 15th February. Bosnian Ban Stjepan II Kotromanić (1322-1353) and representatives of the Republic of Dubrovnik are sitting at a table in 74
Old Srebr’nik dressed in the most beautiful attire you can imagine, entering into a bilateral agreement. The parties agreed, as set forth in the charter, that Ston, Pelješac, Prevlaka and a few other estates of the Republic of Dubrovnik are to be leased to the Republic of Dubrovnik until the end of time, and that the entire territory is to be leased for 500 gold coins. This treaty is known in history as the Srebrenik Charter.
It was made in four copies, two in Bosnian Cyrillic (bosančica) and two in Latin script, each validated by the king’s golden seal. The Old Town of Srebrenik was built atop a high, steep and virtually inaccessible rock. Underneath the most accessible part of town, a deep ditch was dug so the only way anyone could enter the castle was to cross a drawbridge.
The town ramparts and the outer parts of all tower and stable walls, which formed a large defensive wall built around the town, are about 1.5 m thick. The fortress consists of three connected sections with four towers and a small castle. There is a souvenir shop within the fortress, and you can freshen up with homemade drinks at a nearby refreshment spot and pause to think about the impressions you got of the medieval fortress…

A dilapidated house in Saint Sava Street, owned by Pero Živanović, testifies to their love of each other. Jovan settled in the house when he became a teacher in Bijeljina, and the granddaughter of the well-known merchant had the opportunity to meet the new teacher straightaway. The flame of love was ignited, but this love story did not have a happy ending because of the older family members. Magdalena’s family wanted to have a son-in-law of similar wealth and social status. Raised in the patriarchal tradition, the girl obeyed her parents and did not marry Jovan. However, she also did not marry the rich merchant from Brčko her family suggested she should marry. In an act of defiance, she remained single for the rest of her life. Jovan never married either.
2. BOGATSTVO GEOTERMALNE VODE Bijeljina leži na ogromnim podzemnim rezervama geotermalne vode. Otkrivena je 50-ih godina dok se tragalo za naftom u Semberiji. Nije se tada znalo kakvu vrijednost ima ovo otkriće. Plan je bio zatvoriti je, no nisu to dozvolili poduzetni mještani Dvorova. U početku su vodu koristili za pranje traktora, kasnije za uzgajanje cvijeća i povrća u staklenicima, a otkrivanjem njenih ljekovitih svojstava počinje raditi Banja Dvorovi.
2. LARGE THERMAL WATER RESOURCES Bijeljina sits on massive underground reserves of geothermal water. It was discovered in the 1950s while searching for oil in Semberija. People did not know just how valuable geothermal water is. The plan was to close the site, but the enterprising residents of Dvorovi did not allow it. At first, they used geothermal water to wash tractors, then to water flowers and vegetables in greenhouses, and when they discovered its healing properties, Banja Dvorovi (Dvorovi Spa and Wellness) was opened. 78

ZELENI OTOK NA SEMBERSKOJ RAVNICI Sa svojim parkovima, cvijetnjacima, alejama, sportskim terenima, bazenima među kojima je jedan olimpijskih dimenzija, seoskim dvorištima, ugostiteljskim objektima, Banja Dvorovi izgleda kao zeleni otok na semberskoj ravnici. Blagotvorna voda s temperaturom od 75°C izvire s dubine od 1300 metara u njenom središnjem dijelu. Hidrolozi izvor povezuju s postojanjem ogromnog jezera vrele, skoro laboratorijski čiste vode, nastalog ispod Semberije i Mačve vjekovnim poniranjem voda rijeke Drine kada izbije iza planine Gučevo.

GREEN ISLAND ON THE SEMBERIJA PLAINS With its parks, flower gardens, avenues, sports fields, swimming pools, including an Olympic-size one, village courtyards, catering facilities, Banja Dvorovi looks like a green island in the flatlands of Semberija. In the central part of Semberija, thermal waters with healing powers spring from a depth of 1,300 metres at a temperature of 75 degrees Celsius. Hydrologists say that thermal waters originate from a massive lake of extremely hot clean water, a lake which formed below Semberija and Mačva over many centuries as the underground waters of the River Drina kept sinking down only to gush up to the surface behind Mount Gučevo.
4. ŽENSKI MANASTIRI Bijeljina ima dva ženska manastira. Manastiru Svete Petke svakodnevno se dive putnici prolazeći obilaznicom oko Bijeljine prema Srbiji. Posvećen je Prepodobnoj majci Paraskevi i ukrašen s pet zlatnih kupola. Dok je on još uvijek u izgradnji, u selu Banjica duh starih vremena čuva se u odajama ženskog Manastira Tavna, najstarijeg sakralnog središta u Bijeljini. Izgrađen je najvjerovatnije početkom 14. vijeka i od tada je sve vrijeme dijelio sudbinu lokalnog življa. Njegovo sestrinstvo broji devet monahinja.
4. FEMALE MONASTERIES Bijeljina has got two female monastic communities. The Monastery of Saint Petka is admired on a daily basis by travellers passing by Bijeljina on their way to Serbia. It is dedicated to the Venerable Mother Paraskeva and features five golden domes. While it is still under construction, in the village of Banjica, the spirit of old times is kept in the rooms of the Tavna Convent, the oldest sacral edifice in Bijeljina. It was probably built at the beginning of the 14th century and since then it has shared the fate of the locals. There are nine nuns in the convent. 79

THE FIRST CHURCH BUILT AFTER THE RENEWAL OF THE CHURCH HIERARCHY The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Bijeljina was the first church built after the renewal of the church hierarchy in B&H. Built in 1886, it was declared a national cultural monument in B&H in 2015 thanks to its historical and architectural value.

8. PEACEFUL OASIS IN THE CITY CENTRE The city park in Bijeljina is a paradise for those who are in love and an important place for recreation. Modelled after the parks in Austria and Hungary, it began to be developed in the 18th century. Various plants, especially plane trees and chestnuts, were planted. With the installation of new lighting and the construction of a café in the park, at the same site where it was previously located, this peaceful oasis in the city centre has become the favourite outing spot among a growing number of the residents of Bijeljina.

Its history from then on is presented in the exhibition held at the Semberija Museum, which is located in the oldest building in Bijeljina. Ovog ljeta Turistička zajednica Hercegovačkoneretvanskog kantona predstavit će novi turistički proizvod vezano za ronilački turizam u ovom kantonu. Riječ je o projektu koji rade u sklopu prekogranične saradnje s Dubrovnikom iz Hrvatske i Kotorom iz Crne Gore. TOP DESTINACIJA ZA SPELEORONJENJE Ljubitelji speleoronjenja kažu da je Hercegovina među top 10 svjetskih destinacija po potencijalu za ronjenje u pećinama. Podvodnim pećinama i kraškim vrelima priroda je izdašno nagradila ovaj dio BiH, u šta se svake godine uvjere elite svjetskog ronjenja koje dolaze na Balkan Cave Summit koji organizira Ronilački klub „Neretva“ i Interventna spasilačka služba iz Mostara. Skup se tradicionalno organizira svakog augusta od 2013. godine i okuplja veliki broj svjetskih ronilaca koji se svaki put iznova oduševe podvodnim ljepotama vrela Bune, Bunice, Jasenice, Crnog oka i Crnog vrela kod Salakovca. Ronilački entuzijasti Hercegovine odlučili su da, s obzirom na
to da još uvijek nema komercijalnog ronjenja, podvodni svijet približe svim zainteresiranim snimajući podvodne lokacije koje će uskoro predstaviti u virtuelnoj stvarnosti.
VIKINŠKI DRAKAR NA BUŠKOM JEZERU Prošlog ljeta Buškim jezerom kod Tomislavgrada zaplovio je prvi vikinški drakar u Bosni i Hercegovini. Sagradio ga je poznati duvanjski Viking Stipe Flick Peić kojem je želja bila da njime zaplovi ovim jezerom, i u tome je nakon godinu dana gradnje konačno uspio. Njegov vikiniški drakar mogao bi postati prava turistička atrakcija na Buškom jezeru, koje iz godine u godinu privlači sve veći broj posjetilaca, naročito ribolovaca i ljubitelja ptica. Drakarom se može provozati osam osoba i za-
ista je pravi doživljaj kojeg ne biste trebali propustiti prilikom posjete ovim predjelima. Pored vožnje drakarom, možete posjetiti i vikinško selo Kavurci koje Stipe gradi. Jezero je pogodno za kupanje, a njegove pješčane plaže idealne su za šetnju bosih nogu i odbojku na pijesku, za koju na plaži jezera postoji i teren. This summer, Herzegovina-Neretva Canton’s Tourist Board is going to present a new diving tourism product in this canton. It is part of a crossborder cooperation project with counterparts from Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Kotor, Montenegro. Rescue Service, are able to witness each year. By tradition, the event has been held each August since 2013. A large number of divers from all around the world gather together to marvel at the breath-taking underwater beauty of the springs of Buna, Bunica, Jasenica, Crno oko, and Crno vrelo near Salakovac time and time again. Since there is still no commercial cave diving on offer there, diving lovers of Herzegovina have decided to bring the underwater world closer to everyone who is interested in it by filming underwater locations which will soon be presented in virtual reality.
VIKING SHIP ON BUŠKO LAKE Last summer, the first longship (or Viking ship) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, set sail on Buško Lake near Tomislavgrad. It was built by Stipe Flick Peić, a well-known Viking of Duvno, who dreamed of sailing his boat on this particular lake. Having spent a year building the longship, he finally made his dream come true. Stipe’s longship might become a real tourist attraction on Buško Lake which has been attracting a growing number of visitors, especially fishermen and bird lovers, in
recent years. The longship can accommodate eight passengers, and if you come to visit the area, make sure to go for a longship tour of the lake. You can also visit Kavurci, a Viking village that Stipe is currently building. The lake is suitable for swimming, and its sandy beaches are perfect for walking barefoot and enjoying a game of volleyball on the beach court. 85

ČUDO FLORE I FAUNE Na samom početku ovog nesvakidašnjeg putovanja, rijeka je tiha i mirna. No, sa približavanjem ušću postaje brza i uzbudljiva. Temperatura vode u ljetnim mjesecima iznosi oko 20 stepeni, pa je odlična i za one osjetljive na temperaturne razlike.

FROM ITS SOURCE IN PEĆ-MLINI TO ITS CONFLUENCE WITH THE RIVER NERETVA, HERCEGOVINA’S TREBIŽAT IS 51 KILOMETRES LONG. IT IS AN UNDERGROUND RIVER AND THE ONLY RIVER IN EUROPE THAT REPEATEDLY DISAPPEARS INTO THE GROUND ONLY TO RESURFACE AGAIN, AS MANY AS NINE TIMES.

his winding river with nine names, with pure and clear water and easy rapids, will be best experienced on a canoeing safari, an interesting tourist attraction organised by Čapljina based association “Tajna prirode”. THE WILDLIFE WONDER At the outset of this incredible journey, the river is slow-moving and peaceful. As one gets closer to the end, it becomes fast-flowing and exciting. During summer months, 88
the water temperature is at about 20 degrees centigrade, which makes it ideal for people sensitive to temperature variations. There is almost no age limit for participation in the safari, which makes it suitable for those looking for an adrenalin rush, just as it is for those looking for an opportunity to relax and become one with nature. Participants in the safari will get to see many species of fish and birds, and enjoy lovely waterfalls which perfectly complement the setting.
THE PRICE The price includes transportation of participants and equipment from the rendezvous point (Čapljina Train Station or “Jaz” town beach) to the starting point, equipment rental (canoes, paddles, safety vests, water-proof bags), one or more guides/skippers (depending on the size of the group) and lunch and beverages.
In addition to the adventure described in detail above, the Association “Tajna prirode” can also organise tour of the waterfalls in the upper part of Trebižat, including world-famous Kravica waterfall, Mala Kravica, Koćuša and Čeveljuša waterfalls, using off-road vehicles to take the participants for a super exciting river adventure.
With the assistance of an experienced guide, guests quickly master the skill of paddling and steering the canoe and learn what to do during more demanding parts of the adventure. If it occurs to guests at any point that they want to swim or swing on a liana and jump into the river, the kind hosts will find the
most suitable place and do everything they can to make sure the memory of the adventure becomes their fondest summertime memory. Each canoe is designed for two persons. The equipment includes paddles, water-proof bags and vests. For best experience, participants should wear something com-

KLADOPOLJSKO JEZERO NA ZELENGORI Planina Zelengora u jugoistočnom dijelu BiH jedna je od najpoželjnijih planinarskih destinacija. Iako loših prilaznih puteva, ona će uvijek biti na listi svih ljubitelja prirode kao destinacija za najmanje jednu turu u godini. Njeni ukrasi su “gorske oči”, nekoliko jezera različitog načina nastanka. Najpristupačnije za jednodnevnu planinarsku turu na Zelengori je Kladopoljsko jezero. Do početne tačke planinarske ture dolazite putnim pravcem kroz Kalinovik, R433 prema Ulogu i Nevesinju, a 10 km nakon grada slijedite putokaz “Obalj” prema lijevo. Tri kilometra poslije, uz kombinaciju asfalta i makadama, dolazite do nekropole stećaka, gdje možete parkirati vozilo. Da bi bila sadržajna, ugodna vašem planinarenju i 90
primamljiva oku, predložit ćemo kružnu turu ukupne dužine 15 km. Početna dionica vas vodi preko Suhog polja do napuštenih štala na Kladovom polju, u čijoj blizini je i izvor Krupac. Odatle, staza vas vodi skoro istim smjerom kretanja do Kladopoljskog jezera. Prosječnom kondicionom spremom do njega možete doći za 3 i pol sata. Jezero se nalazi na zapadu masiva planine i posve je odvojeno od guste grupacije jezera u centralnom dijelu. Na nadmorskoj je visini od 1380 metara, dugačko je oko 250 i široko oko 100 metara. Pod zaštitom je Nacionalnog parka “Sutjeska”. Toponimi nam često mogu otkriti i prošlost lokaliteta, što je slučaj i sa ovim jezerom. Klada je druga riječ za balvan, pa se pretpostavlja da je do prije nekoliko stoljeća ovo područje bilo izvor izuzetno kvalitetne
drvne građe. Njeni ostaci se i danas nalaze unutar jezera. Pogodno je i za mušičarenje, poseban stil ribolova, a ima izuzetno bogat riblji fond. Povratak sa jezera vas vodi pored jednog važnog nacionalnog spomenika BiH i istovremeno spomenika na Listi svjetske baštine UNESCO-a - nekropole stećaka Čengića bara sa 52 stećka. Nakon što razgledate nadgrobne spomenike iz srednjovjekovne Bosne, naročito sa njihovim ukrasima vrpci, trolistova, ptica, jelena, uputite se sjeverno, prema Suhom polju i potom se vratite nazad do vozila. ŠATORSKO JEZERO NA ŠATOR-PLANINI Zapadna Bosna je područje sa izuzetno zanimljivim terenima, veoma šarenolikim biodiverzitetom, ali zbog daljine od centralnog dijela, nije ek-
sploatisana koliko zaslužuje. Jedna od manje poznatih i nepravedno zapostavljenih planina u Bosni i Hercegovini je Šator-planina koja se nalazi u blizini Bosanskog Grahova. Najviši vrh joj je Veliki Šator na 1872 mnv, a ono što je njen specifikum je Šatorsko jezero, koje je ledničkog porijekla. Nalazi se na 1488 mnv, dugo je 280, a široko 120 metara. Iz njega nastaje Šatorski potok, od kojeg kasnije nastaje rijeka Unac. Vozilom do jezera možete tako što ćete se magistralnim putem dovesti do sela Gornje Peulje, između Livna i Bosanskog Grahova, a onda makadamskim putem, u dužini od 17 kilometara, doći do ovog “gorskog oka”. Na platou iznad jezera nalazi se objekat PD “Runolist” Bosansko Grahovo, koji se otvara po potrebi i najavi. Do vrha planine i nazad na jezero preći ćete ukupno 8 kilometara. Staza, u početku strma i kamenita, vodi vas na sedlo, da bi se tu uključila na stari drum, a potom sa njega slijedi uspon na vrh Velikog Šatora. Pogled sa vrha vam se pruža od obližnje Dinare, Troglava, Kamešnice i Cincara, pa prema Čvrsnici, Raduši i dalje prema srednjobosanskim planinama. Povratak ćete izvesti istom stazom.

BUŠKO JEZERO KRAJ KAMEŠNICE
Staza počinje kraj izvora Ozrena i vodi vas prvo kroz makiju, pa kroz bukovu šumu sve do planinarske kuće do Pešinog vrela, što je pola uspona, a nastala je zahvaljujući trudu planinarskog društva “Kamešnica” iz Livna. Nakon što se odmorite, krenite dalje, ali ne zaboravite natočiti dovoljno vode, jer ćete izaći na vršni greben i na izloženost hercegovačkom suncu.
Buško jezero poznajemo kao najveće vještačko jezero u Bosni i Hercegovini. No, malo je poznato da je ono formirano na nekadašnjem Buškom blatu, na nadmorskoj visini od 700 metara. Planina koja se uzdiže iznad Buškog jezera je Kamešnica i granična je planina između BiH i Hrvatske. Najviši vrh zove se Konj na 1856 metara nadmorske visine. Planinarima je veoma privlačna, a većina uspona kreće iz sela Podgradina, na obalama jezera, stazom dužine 11 km. Tokom 5,5 km uspona treba savladati skoro 1150

KLADOPOLJSKO LAKE IN MOUNT ZELENGORA Located in the southeastern part of B&H, Mounta Zelengora is one of the most sought-after hiking destinations. Even though the roads leading to Zelengora are in poor condition, it will always be on all nature lovers’ bucket list as a place to go to at least once a year. It features several lakes of different origin also known as “mountain eyes”. The most accessible lake for a one-day hiking tour in Mount Zelengora is Kladopoljsko Lake. You can reach the starting point of the hiking tour it you take the R433 road going through Kalinovik towards Ulog and Nevesinje. Ten kilometres after Kalinovik, follow the road sign to “Obalj” on the left. 92
Then, after three kilometres of paved and unpaved road surfaces, you come to an ancient necropolis where you can park your car. To make it meaningful, pleasant and appealing to the eye, we suggest you make a circular tour spanning 15 km in total. The initial section takes you across Suho polje to the abandoned barns in Kladovo polje, near which the Krupac spring is located. From there, the trail practically takes you in the same direction to Kladopoljsko Lake. Hikers of average fitness level can make the hike to the lake in three and a half hours. It is located on the west side of the mountain massif and is completely separated from the dense group of lakes in the central part of Mount Zelengora. Loca-
ted at 1380 metres above sea level, Kladopoljsko Lake is about 250 metres long and about 100 metres wide. It falls under the protection of the Sutjeska National Park. It is also suitable for fly fishing, a special style of fishing, and is extremely rich in fish life. On your way back from the lake, you will see an important national monument of B&H which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List—the medieval necropolis Čengića bara consisting of 52 tombstones. After you explore the tombstones from medieval Bosnia, particularly those with scrolling vines, floral stylisations, and bird and deer motifs, head north towards Suho polje, and finally go back to your car.

ŠATORSKO LAKE IN MOUNT ŠATOR Western Bosnia is an area with awfully interesting types of terrain and biological diversity. However, since it is quite far from the central part of the country, we have not derived much benefit from it. One of the lesser known and unfairly neglected mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina is Mount Šator near Bosansko Grahovo. Its highest peak, Veliki Šator, is situated at 1872 m above sea level. Šatorsko Lake is what makes the mountain unique. Glacial in origin and sitting at an elevation of 1488 metres above sea level, it is 280 metres long and 120 metres wide. Šatorski potok flows from Šatorsko Lake and forms the Unac River further downstream. You can drive to the lake by car. Take main road to the village of Gornje Peulje, which sits between Livno and Bosansko Grahovo, and then continue along the 17-kilometre long macadam road to get to the “mountain eye”. On the plateau above the lake there is mountain lodge run by “Edelweiss” Mountaineering Association, which is open to the public as needed so you need to announce your arrival in advance. The hike to the top of the mountain and back to the lake is a total of 8 kilometres. The trail, initially steep and rocky, takes you
to a mountain saddle, leads onto an old road and then upwards to toward the peak of Veliki Šator. The view from the top extends to the nearby Dinara, Troglav, Kamešnica, and Cincar mountains, then to Čvrsnica and Raduša mountains and further to the mountains of central Bosnia. You will get back down the same way you came up.
Do not be surprised if you see a small white star flower along the trail—it is an endemic mountain flower called edelweiss, a symbol excellence in mountaineering activities. In the lake’s immediate surroundings, make sure you visit Bulino vrelo. Its waters are reputed to have healing properties.
Buško Lake is known as the largest artificial lake in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, few people know that it was formed on the former Buško blato at an altitude of 700 meters. The mountain that rises above Buško Lake is Kamešnica and is a border mountain between B&H and Croatia. The highest peak sitting at 1856 meters above sea level is called Konj. It appeals to hikers very much. The ascent usually begins from the village of Podgradina, which is situated on the banks of Buško Lake, and takes you on an 11-kilometre route. During the 5.5 km ascent and then descent, you have to adjust to an elevation change of nearly 1,150 metres, which is why this trail is considered one of the most difficult trails in the country. The trail starts near the Ozren spring and takes you first through the maquis, then through the beech forest all the way to the mountain lodge and to the Pešino spring, which is halfway through the hike. The lodge was built thanks to the work of “Kamešnica” Mountaineering Association from Livno. After a short rest, continue your hike, but do not forget to refill your water bottles because soon enough you will reach the summit of the ridge and be exposed to intense Herzegovinian sun and heat. At the top you will find a concrete geodetic pillar and you will be able to see nearby mountains—Troglav, Dinara, Tušnica, Cincar, and Šator. On your way back, tighten the laces on your hiking shoes and be gentle with your feet. 93

You can get there from three possible directions: by ferry from Herceg Novi en route from Kamenari to Lepetani (a return ticket costs 5 euros), by car along the coast, through the tunnel from Kotor, or along the Adriatic motorway from Budva, but you can also get there by plane because Tivat is the only coastal town in Montenegro with an airport.

Kroz fotografiju se rodila ljubav prema putovanjima Enhad Goralija završio je Građevinski fakultet u Sarajevu i radi kao voditelj laboratorija za kvalitetu u TBG BH d.o.o. Kakanj. Za vrijeme pandemije počeo se zanimati za fotografiju, o kojoj je učio preko YouTube kanala. Učeći o fotografiji rasla je i ljubav prema putovanjima i otkrivanju sasvim novih destinacija. Najčešće je pohodio planine, a posebno ga je, dok je u bivku provodio noći, osvojila Visočica. Voli street i landscape fotografiju.

His Love of Travel Started with Photography Enhad Goralija graduated from the University of Sarajevo’s School of Construction. He is the quality control laboratory manager at TBG BH d.o.o. Kakanj. During the pandemic, he developed an interest in photography and started to learn about in on YouTube channels. The more he learned about photography, the more he loved to travel and discover new destinations. He primarily explored the mountains, and when he was spending the nights in a bivouac on Visočica Mountain he became fascinated with this mountain in particular. He loves street and landscape photography.

Stoga nimalo ne čudi što je Hurghada jedan od međunarodnih centara za ljubitelje vodenih sportova: od ronjenja do jedrenja na dasci.

NAJLJEPŠE PLAŽE Gdje god da budete smješteni u Hurghadi nećete pogriješiti, no ako bismo morali izdvojiti najljepše plaže, ima ih nekoliko. Najpopularnija je Sahl Hasheesh smještena u zaljevu Crvenog mora. Na njoj se nalazi jedno od najvećih odmarališta u Egiptu,
smješteno na 12 kilometara pješčano-bijelih uređenih plaža, na samo 15 minuta od aerodroma u Hurghadi. Turisti vole i zaljev Makadi s obzirom na to da je posebno uređen za njih, gdje dane možete provoditi na pustoj i osamljenoj plaži, s najljepšim pogledom na pučinu Crvenog mora. Zatim, tu je i plaža čije će vam ime sve samo reći – „San“. Riječ je o maloj plaži u srcu Hurghade, smještene na izduženom strmom rtu preko puta otoka Juzu Abu Minkar i u neposrednoj blizini aerodroma. Njena okolina pršti od luksuza jer je rt gotovo cijeli popunjen luksuznim hotelima i ugostiteljskim objektima. I kao šlag na kraju izdvajamo plažu Mahmeya koja je dio nacionalnog parka otoka Giftun. Kada na nju dođete brodicom nakon 45 minuta vožnje, shvatit ćete kakva je privilegija upravo ovdje biti.

THE MOST GORGEOUS BEACHES
If you want something a bit different from what awaits you at the much loved Adriatic seaside, the Egyptian town of Hurghada might make an impression on you this summer. Hurghada is situated on the coast of the Red Sea, which is known for its healing properties, and the Arabian Desert, and that is what makes it quite unique: it combines a beach holiday with a desert adventure— camel riding tours. Swimming in the waters of the Red Sea feels like swimming in a huge aquarium. The sea is known for its reefs coral species diversity and is home to more than 1,000 species of fish. It is therefore not surprising that Hurghada is one of the international centres for water sports enthusiasts: from diving to windsurfing.
You cannot go wrong with wherever you decide to stay in Hurghada, but if we had to pick the most beautiful beaches, we would have to name but a few. The most popular one is Sahl Hasheesh Beach which is located on a sandy bay on the Egyptian Red Sea coast, just 15 minutes from
Hurghada Airport. Stretching over 12 km of white sandy beaches, it is home to the largest beach resort complex in Egypt. Makadi Bay is one of the places preferred by many tourists for holiday because it is tailored to meet their needs. You can spend leisurely days on a deserted and secluded beach there and enjoy stunning views of the Red Sea. It is a small beach in the very centre of Hurghada. Situated on an elongated steep cape opposite the island of Juzu Abu Minkar and next door to Hurghada International Airport, it is almost entirely built up with expensive hotels and catering establishments. And as icing on the cake, we single out Mahmeya Beach, which is part of the Giftun Island National Park. After roughly 45 minutes on the water, you will arrive at Giftun Island and realise what a privilege it is to be here. 111

If you are travelling with a travel agency, the price includes almost everything: air transport, hotel accommodation and hotel transfer, and everything else that comes with the hotel accommodation. You still need a tourist visa for Egypt and you can obtain it directly on arrival at an immigration checkpoint in Egypt.

voju ljubav prema putovanjima i fotografiji Banjalučanka Željka Kočić pretočila je početkom 2019. u uspješan profil na Instagramu – whitepearltravel. Iako nije počela s namjerom da postane travel blogerica, ljudi su prepoznali njen rad tako da broj pratilaca raste svakim danom. Kada je njenom dečku i njoj na posljednjem putovanju u Jordan, ispred Riznice u Petri, prišao par koji ih je prepoznao s Instagrama, nije mogla vjerovati da ih ljudi toliko daleko od kuće prepoznaju, iako su mladić i djevojka bili iz Srbije.
VOLIM AZIJU Do sada neviđeno i bez komplikovane procedure ulaska osnovni su kriteriji za odabir destinacije. No, priznaje Željka, zbog njenog posla 114
destinacije najčešće biraju nju, jer dobija pozive za putovanja.
PUTOVANJA ZA VRIJEME PANDEMIJE
“Mnogo volim Aziju. Svaka tamošnja zemlja na mene ostavi poseban utisak. Recimo, Kina je zemlja s dugom tradicijom, zanimljivim običajima i kulturom, uveliko drugačijim od evropskih. Za mjesec dana, koliko sam tamo provela, upijala sam njihov način života”, govori Željka, čija su putovanja pratili razni doživljaji.
Nakon što se iz Italije jedva vratila kući u martu 2020., nastavila je putovati u zemlje u koje se moglo ući turistički s negativnim testom na Covid-19. Osim zemalja regiona, posjetila je Tursku, Švedsku, Egipat, Švicarsku, Lihtenštajn, Jordan, Sjevernu Makedoniju...
“Kada sam bila u Parizu, desio se teroristički napad kilometar od hotela u kojem sam odsjela. Uoči putovanja na Bali, eruptirao je vulkan na ovom otoku. Otišavši na studije u Italiju, buknula je upravo u ovoj zemlji pandemija korona virusa, dok sam za vrijeme boravka u Sarajevu doživjela poplavu.”
U tom periodu BiH je obišla uzduž i poprijeko, i tada je, reći će, publika najviše prepoznala njen rad. Ljudi su bili u čudu vidjevši kakve vodopade, jezera i planine imamo, ili, stare mostove, spomenike i tvrđave, koji su, također, predmet Željkinog interesovanja na putovanjima. O naljepšim vodopadima pisala je i u svom prvom e-Vodiču do najljepših
vodopada u BiH, koji je obuhvatio 10 vodopada koje je do momenta pisanja vodiča posjetila. Cilj je bio ostaviti lični utisak o svakom od njih uz pratnju autorskih fotografija. Posjete vodopadima se nastavljaju, pa je u planu i drugi dio e-vodiča. “Mene su putovanja mnogo promijenila. Intenzivno sam počela putovati s nepunih 31 godinu, nakon teškog životnog perioda. Putovanja su na početku bila moj bijeg

t the beginning of 2019, Željka Kočić from Banja Luka turned her love for travel and photography into a successful profile on Instagram called whitepearltravel. Even though she had no intention of becoming a travel blogger, people recognised her work, so the number of people following her is growing by the day.

When a couple who recognised them from their Instagram profile came up to greet her boyfriend and her on their last trip to Jordan, at the Treasury in Petra, she was in disbelief that people could actually recognise them at a place so far away from home, even though the young man and woman were from Serbia.
“I love Asia a lot. Every country on this continent leaves a strong impression on me. For example, China is a country with a long tradition, interesting customs, and a culture that is distinctly different from that of Europe. I spent a month living there and absorbing their way of life,” says Željka, who has had a lot

MEET UP AT THE SUTJESKA NATIONAL PARK In addition to the Whitepearltravel profile, Željka also runs the Instazeljka profile dedicated to Instagram tips for people to act on. test result. In addition to the countries in the region, she visited Turkey, Sweden, Egypt, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Jordan, Northern Macedonia… During that period, she travelled the length and breadth of B&H, and that is when, she says, the audience acknowledged her work the most. People were amazed to see what kind of waterfalls, lakes and mountains we have got, or what kind of old bridges, monuments and fortresses we have got, and Željka is also keen to find out more about them while touring around them. She also wrote about the most gorgeous waterfalls in her first e-Guide to the most Gorgeous Waterfalls in B&H, which included 10 waterfalls that she had visited by the time the guide was written. The goal was to leave a personal impression of each of them, accompanied by the author’s photographs. Visits to the
waterfalls continue, so a sequel of the e-guide is to follow. “Travel has inspired a massive life change for me. I started travelling a lot when I was less than 31 years old, after going through a tough time in my life. Initially, for me, travel was a means of escape from everyday life and problems. Even though everything is waiting for you when you get back home, I’d get some new energy and gain new insights after each trip. Travel fills and feeds me with positive energy. On my travels, I realised how flexible and adaptable I am to all kinds of situations and people, and how happy we are compared to some other people living in difficult conditions. Thanks to travelling around the world, I’ve come to know just how beautiful our country is. Not to mention the people I’ve met and the friends I’ve made around the world. It’s, indeed, a real treasure.”
“What distinguishes very successful Instagram profiles from all others is authenticity. They need to be special in some way and give people a certain kind of value—educational, fun, motivational... Success on social networks, in addition to authenticity, hinges upon the work you do, the effort and time you invest, and the knowledge about the way social networks work. Given that the Instagram algorithm is constantly evolving and upgrading, I help people keep up to date and make the changes work in their favour,” explains Željka, who will be heading to Italy and Greece with her boyfriend this summer. They plan to release the new edition of their joint project Meet Up, which is about adventure trips to the national parks of B&H and the region. This time around, the project gathers together nature, socialising, and social networks enthusiasts at the Sutjeska National Park. 117

U je 2021. proglasio Evropskom godinom željeznice kako bi potaknuo korištenja vozova, sigurnog i održivog prometnog sredstva, u nastavku teksta saznajte i zbog čega.
EKOLOŠKE PREDNOSTI ŽELJEZNICE Željeznički saobraćaj smatra se sigurnijim i ekološkim prihvatljivijiim vidom saobraćaja od svih drugih jer najmanje utiče na zagađenje zraka, zauzima najmanju površinu i troši najmanje energije. Ako se željeznice uporede s autoputevima, vide se velike razlike: pruge zauzimaju 118
manje prostora, imaju veću prevoznu vrijednost te proizvedu najmanje CO2 i N2O te na taj način njihov uticaj na klimu i okoliš je manji. Cilj Evropske unije, prema Evropskom zelenom planu, je do 2050. godine smanjiti emisiju stakleničkih plinova iz saobraćaja za 90 posto na način da se velik dio kopnenog tereta koji se transportira putevima prevozi željeznicom i plovnim putevima.
ULOGA ŽELJEZNIČKOG PREVOZA U RAZVOJU TURISTIČKE DESTINACIJE Za razvoj turizma ključnu važnost
Željeznice su od kraja 19. vijeka godina imale značajnu ulogu u razvoju atraktivnosti turističke destinacije. Kao jedan od historijskih primjera značajne uloge željezničkog saobraćaja u razvoju gradske turističke destinacije u Bosni i Hercegovini je trasa pruge „Fabrika Duhana – Ilidža Banja“ koje je puštena u saobraćaj 28. juna 1892. godine. U to vrijeme najbolje mjesto za provod sarajevskog stanovništva, posebno nedjeljom bila je Banja Ilidža. Do Banje se putovalo vozovima lokalne željeznice i vožnja je trajala oko petnaest minuta, a omnibusom ili fijakerom jedan sat. U centru banjskog kompleksa su se nalazila dva hotela „Austrija“ i „Hungarija“ u osi između dva hotela postavljen je banjski restoran koji je okrenut prema kružnom cvijetnjaku. Re-
storan je bio okružen šetalištem – Wandelbahn povezan sa hotelima i željezničkom stanicom Banja Ilidža.
UTJECAJ ŽELJEZNIČKOG PREVOZA NA SPECIFIČNE OBLIKE TURIZMA Kao primjer utjecaja željezničkog prevoza na specifične oblike turizma može se uzeti utjecaj željezničkog prevoza na cikloturizam, tzv. bike voz. U novembru 2018. godine Evropski parlament podržao je razvoj intermodalnog prevoza glasajući za prijedlog koji putnicima u vozovima omogućava da bicikle prevoze u svim vozovima uključujući brze, dugolinijske, internacionalne i lokalne. U vozovima zemalja Evrope podrazumijevano postoji prostor ili čak poseban vagon za bicikle. Naprimjer, Hrvatske željeznice u putničkom prevozu imaju dvadesetak biciklističkih vagona u vozovima, koji voze od Zagreba do velikih turističkih destinacija, npr. Splita i Rijeke. U Bosni i Hercegovini, u talgo vozovima Željeznica Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine, ne postoji poseban vagon, moguć je samo prevoz
sklopljenog bicikla, a cijena karte u jednom pravcu je 7 KM.
NEISKORIŠTEN POTENCIJAL ŽELJEZNICA BIH Danas se turističko putovanje željezničkim prevozom na destinacije Bosne i Hercegovine uz dobru organizaciju, kreiranje i promociju turističkih paketa može predstaviti kao doživljaj te pružiti brojne usluge turistima tokom putovanja željeznicom. U BiH je 2021. godine prvi put nakon dugo godina doputovao internacionalni voz - češki voz “Sarajevo Express” koji je u našu zemlju doveo više od 250 mladih Čeha, koji su obišli nekoliko bh. gradova prugom. Zbog ogromnog interesa Vlak Fest, kako su nazvali Česi svoju posjetu, i ove godine posjetit će našu zemlju.
U aprilu 2022. CNN je prugu Sarajevo-Mostar uvrstio među top 10 najljepših evropskih putovanja vozom. Osim pruge SarajevoMostar, na listi su se još našle rute koje povezuju Firencu i Napulj, Barcelonu i Monserrat, Nicu i Ventimigliu i druge. Bilo bi zaista šteta ne prepoznati ulogu koju željeznica ima u razvoju turizma jer Bosna i Hercegovina je predivna zemlja koja može ponuditi bezbroj privlačnih sadržaja i turistima pružiti nezaboravan godišnji odmor ili vikend s kojeg će otputovati kući sa željom da se definitivno opet vrate.
Velik potencijal željeznice je u potpunosti neiskorišten i u Bosni i Hercegovini postoji samo jedan program izletničkog voza, tradicionalni turistički Rotary voz “Smaragdnom dolinom rijeke Une”. Sve do pandemije, jedinstveno putovanje Unskom prugom i obilazak zaštićenog područja smještenog na 19.800 ha vrijednih prirodnih ljepota i bogate kulturno-historijske baštine je organizovao Nacionalni park „Una“ uz podršku Rotary kluba Bihać. 119

THE ROLE OF RAILWAY TRANSPORT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A TOURIST DESTINATION
ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF RAILWAYS
The development of road and transport networks in specific destinations or to a travel destination plays a critical role in tourism development. A destination that has an efficient road infrastructure stands a better chance of using its capacities compared to a tourist destination that does not have a good road network.
Rail is considered a safer, more reliable, and environmentally friendly transport mode than any other transport mode others because it has the lowest impact on air pollution, takes up the least amount of space, and is the most energy-efficient form of transport. Railways largely differ from other modes of transport. Compared to highspeed roads, railways take up less space, have a higher transport value, and emit the least amount of CO2 and N2O, thus reducing their impact on climate change and the environment. According to the European Green Deal, the European Union’s goal is to cut greenhouse gases from the transport sector by 90% by 2050, so that a substantial part of inland land freight carried today by road shifts to rail and inland waterways. 120
Since the end of the 19th century, railways have played a significant role in making tourist destinations more attractive. One of the historical examples of how significant the role of railway traffic is in the development of urban tourist destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the route of the “Tobacco Factory – Ilidža Banja” railway which began operation on 28 June 1892. At the time, the best place for the people of Sarajevo to have a great time, particularly on Sunday, was Banja Ilidža. Local trains carried
passengers to Banja. The train ride took about fifteen minutes, while a horse-drawn omnibus or a carriage ride took an hour. In the centre of the spa complex there were two hotels—“Austria” and “Hungaria”. Between the two hotels, a spa restaurant facing the circular flower garden was set up. The restaurant was surrounded by a promenade called Wandelbahn leading up to the hotels and to Banja Ilidža Railway Station.
THE IMPACT OF RAIL TRANSPORT ON SPECIFIC FORMS OF TOURISM Cycling tourism, or the so-called bike train, is as an example of the impact rail transport can have on specific forms of tourism. In November 2018, the European Parliament supported the development of intermodal transportation by backing a proposal that will entitle passengers to take bicycles on board all trains. This includes high-speed, long-distance, cross-border and local services. Trains in European countries include a designated space to transport
bicycles or even a separate bike car. For example, the Croatian Railways passenger transport operator offers around twenty bike cars on trains running from Zagreb to large tourist destinations, e.g. Split and Rijeka. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnian and Herzegovinian Railway’s Talgo trains do not include a separate bike car, they only allow you to fold your bike on a train, and a one-way ticket costs BAM 7.
UNTAPPED POTENTIAL OF B&H RAILWAYS Today, tourist travel by rail to destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina could be promoted as an experience and offer various services to tourists travelling by rail. It would need to include organisation, creation and promotion of tourist packages. In 2021, for the first time in a long while, an international train arrived in B&H. In April 2022, CNN ranked the Sarajevo-Mostar train route among Europe’s top 10 most beautiful train journeys. In addition to the Sarajevo-Mostar railway, the list also includes routes connecting Florence and Naples, Barcelona and Montserrat, Nice and Ventimiglia, and others. It would be a real shame not to recognise the role of the railway in the development of tourism because Bosnia and Herzegovina is a beautiful country that can offer tourists an endless array of attractive activities and give them an unforgettable holiday or weekend break experience and make them want to come back again. than 250 young Czechs to our country. Before the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, a unique trip on the Una railway and a tour of the protected area covering 19,800 hectares of stunning natural beauty and rich cultural and historical heritage was organised by “Una” National Park with the support of Bihać Rotary Club. 121
