Furam svoj film
“JOŠ UVIJEK SE TRAŽIM I NANOVO UPOZNAJEM” Razgovarala: Elma Zećo / Foto: Irfan Redžović 18
U
I pokoji muškarac.
Sve oko mene me oblikuje svakodnevno.
- Do sada uspijevam nekako.
- Iskrenost, hrabrost, sloboda i znatiželja. Još uvijek se tražim i nanovo upoznajem.

he 21st century has seen a growing number of women assuming leadership roles in various areas of business and society, and thanks to their education they have a tremendous potential for occupying professional and managerial positions in business entities. They have been struggling to
take the decision-making power in their own hands and rightly so. They have also been successful in creating a more effective business culture to deliver better business results. That is the way Nađa Lutvikadić Fočo has been building a bridge between BH Telecom and the general public

STRONG SUPPORT We don’t associate your name only with the work you have been doing for BH Telecom in the public arena for years, but more than anything else, we associate it with the public impression we get about this company through various promotional campaigns. How much self-sacrifice does your position require, and how often do you find yourself in the position to fight for your ideas, having in mind the complexity of any large company? - We, as individuals, are impermanent compared to companies, brands, ideas, and the projects we partake in or work on. I’m fortunate to be in the job that I’m in, the job which brings together the things I’m passionate about—communication and promotion—so it frequently doesn’t feel like working; instead, it feels like I’m putting my energy into eagerly waiting for the final product to be released and the customers’ reactions to it. People fight for their ideas both in large and small organisations, but the fight is undoubtedly quite complex in corporations due to a large number of procedures and various decision-making levels, which brings with it a certain charm. What matters the most is to have good co-workers and colleagues, and freedom to occasionally think outside the box. I’m primarily talking about people who aren’t just creative, professional and responsible, but who also radiate positive energy around them bringing out our creative potential and our best professional practices and human values. Everyone agrees that the Coronavirus pandemic has had a radical impact on investments in promotional activities. How does BH Telecom make the best of the current circumstances in this regard? - I’m proud to say that we’re one of the rare companies that haven’t cancelled their promotional activities. We’ve been working together 22
with a wide range of national media outlets and partners well aware that the pandemic will not last forever and that we’ve got to move on with our lives. Members of the No Limit Festival acknowledged that by declaring BH Telecom as the winner of the 2020 Advertiser of the Year Award. We’re trying to establish permanent partnerships and be the partner who primarily supports national production companies and media outlets with the aim of getting appropriate messages across. Is there a project you’re currently “brewing up” with vigour? - On the occasion of the BH Telecom Days event, we’re planning to promote a new project we’ve been working on for a long time. I’m con-
“On the occasion of the BH Telecom Days event, we’re planning to promote a new project we’ve been working on for a long time. I’m convinced that it’ll generate a high level of public interest. .” vinced that it’ll generate a high level of public interest. For now, I can only say that it’s a project that truthfully reflects our determination to promote positive stories. Who’s your right-hand person in business? - Women, for the most part. And a few men. It’s a team of people who inspire me, criticise me as needed, and give honest advice. They support me whenever I need it.
MY INSPIRATION Given the experience you’ve got in public relations, audiences are happy to hear you speak at seminars. How
do you present to the attendees what the job they’ve chosen as their profession is about? - The best part of my job are the lectures I give on various topics related to communications, performing in public, and public relations. The energy I exchange with the audiences becomes a great motivation for me to learn about new cases and tools that I can use for future lectures. I’d say that the job I’m in found me, because ever since I was a child I’ve been a vocal advocate for human rights, mainly on the side of the victims, and their representative. I represented my class at school and took on other engagements that required public speaking skills. While I was in secondary school— during the Bosnian war—I got a job at the Radio M station and entered the world of media outlets, and then the world of public relations, and that’s where my skills naturally blend in with everything I do. What have you fought for the hardest in your career? - Proving what the essence of communication is, and why communication and public relations are important, is something I’ve fought for the hardest. The key is to use them strategically, and not ad hoc. I believe that people here have finally begun to understand this properly. Who’s always kept you motivated and driven in your life? - Essentially, good people with considerable life experience. My parents, my sister who survived being shot, the way she deals with it so effortlessly, as I see it, my brother who’s always ready to help, my husband who’s helped me become a better person, my children, my friends, even the total strangers on social media whose interesting posts make me wonder about things and draw lessons from, but also people in the streets, and nature itself. Every single day everything around me shapes me into the person I am.
How do you pull yourself back up from failure? - I collect my strength, breathe in, smile, and get back up. Failure is an inevitable part of life. As long as it’s not about your health, it’s easy to get back on your feet and start all over again.
I’M ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR AND EXPLORING THE UNEXPLORED To what extent do you find it challenging to balance between your private and professional life and to maintain a constant vigil over your children as they’re growing up? - I’ve somehow managed so far. The key is to keep your time and engagements organised. There was a time in Asia when I had a laugh about a time management module. I thought to myself, what would I need it for? Now, I use all the knowledge I’ve gained, including advice my fe-
male friends give me. I make small “trips” occasionally, but even the “mess” I create brings along something new. We’re not machines after all; we’re human beings deserving of a change that’ll enrich us. Are there some destinations you love to head out to with your family? - We as a family invest in travelling, and we put in a lot of effort in choosing travel locations and things to do there. The children have gotten used to going on long journeys, they look forward to getting to know the new cultures and experiencing the activities suitable for them. My husband is the absolute winner in choosing interesting locations that aren’t too touristy, but he always makes it a point to satisfy my curiosity when it comes to exploring the remains of ancient civilisations. I’m guided by a wise thought that I agree with: the knowledge we acquire when we travel is special, so I’m always on the lookout for and exploring the unexplored.
Is there an amusing travel anecdote that you can remember? - There are always some anecdotes, but the morning flight from Larnaca that I overslept is the one that stuck with me as an interesting trauma (laughs). How would you describe B&H to the people you meet when you travel abroad? - It’s a gorgeous country full of natural wonders, tasty and low-priced food, activities suitable for people of all ages, but also a country of good-hearted people who love their homeland. B&H is a warm-hearted country and everyone’s welcome to come there. What are the core personal values you live by? - Sincerity, courage, freedom and curiosity. I’m still discovering who I really am and getting to know myself over and over again. 23

Franca i Sofije
IAKO SE TREĆI SVIJET KORISTI KAO POGRDNI IZRAZ, FRAZA JE STVORENA KAKO BI OPISALA NACIJE SVIJETA KOJE SU ODBILE SLIJEDITI NARACIJU O HLADNOM RATU, ODBIJAJUĆI DA BUDU ZAVISNE I PODREĐENE DRŽAVE, ILI SOVJETSKOM SAVEZU NA ISTOKU, ILI SJEDINJENIM DRŽAVAMA NA ZAPADU. NJIHOVA HISTORIJA DALA IM JE SNAGU DA ODBIJU DA NJIMA UPRAVLJAJU VANJSKE SILE, A NEKI DOGAĐAJI NAPRAVILI SU POTPUNI ZAOKRET, POPUT ATENTATA NA NADVOJVODU FRANCA FERDINANDA I NJEGOVU SUPRUGU, VOJVOTKINJU SOFIJU U SARAJEVU
D

Franz and Sophie’s Last Days
ALTHOUGH THE THIRD WORLD IS USED NOW AS A DEROGATORY TERM, THE PHRASE WAS ACTUALLY COINED TO DESCRIBE THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD WHO REFUSED TO FOLLOW THE NARRATIVE OF THE COLD WAR; REFUSING TO BE SUBSERVIENT CLIENT STATES TO EITHER THE SOVIET UNION IN THE EAST OR THE UNITED STATES IN THE WEST. IT WAS THE HISTORY OF THESE THIRD WORLD NATIONS THAT GAVE THEM THE STRENGTH TO REFUSE TO BE GOVERNED BY OUTSIDE POWERS, AND FEW MOMENTS CHANGED THE TRAJECTORY OF HISTORY SO COMPLETELY AS THE ASSASSINATION
T
he events of 28 June 1914 are seared into the conscious of the entire world; as put by the historian Vladimir Dedijer, “… no other political murder in modern history has had such momentous consequences as the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand…” And yet, for all that the names Gavrilo Princip and The Black Hand easily spring to people’s lips, very little is known about the week the Archduke and his wife spent in Bosnia and Herzegovina before they were killed.
COMING TO SARAJEVO It is a remarkable oversight, par-
ticularly given the abundance of tourism potential that stretches far beyond the square in front of the Latin Bridge and the former deli that is now a museum. The morganatic marriage of Franz Ferdinand and Sophie Chotek remains at the very center of the assassination story. Targeted by most of the nobility in Vienna for daring to marry “above herself”, the Duchess took her treatment in the Imperial Court with equanimity and calm, even through such petty treatment as having the Grand Master of the Imperial Court, Count Montenuovo, alter her official photographs to
make her look uglier and older. Restrictions on Sophie had been gradually lifted through the years, however, and by 1914 she was allowed to appear with her husband during military engagements if not during royal ones. The visit to Sarajevo was a military visit, where Franz Ferdinand was to observe troop exercises on Mount Igman. Sophie could appear in public with him – but she could not be seated next to him at official dinners. The Imperial couple arrived in Sarajevo separately. Sophie traveled the entire way by train, arriving in Ilidža 27

early on 25 June and taking up her suite at what is now the Hotel Austria and Bosna. Franz Ferdinand traveled down the Adriatic coast on the dreadnought Virus Unitis, disembarking in Croatia and traveling up the Neretva River before disembarking at Metković and boarding a train that would take him to meet his wife. Before reaching Sarajevo, however, the Archduke had a stop in Mostar, where he was met by the Mayor and did a small tour. The Archduke, who had tremendous trouble with languages that were not German, even spoke a few words of the local language. When Franz Ferdinand’s train arrived in Ilidža, trumpets and cheers greeted him. One journalist of the time reported the Archduke’s reaction to the cheering people who watched him drive along the street, saying he appeared, “… deeply moved with emotion, and saluted the gathered people, smiling and thanking them.” Sophie waited on the steps of the hotel, rushing to greet her husband with a hug when he arrived. The suite of rooms that the Imperial Family used at the Hotel Bosna was on the 28
first floor. Little remains today of the old decor of the hotel or of that suite (which was badly damaged in the 1990s), but the bannister on the stairs is the same bannister the Archduke and the Duchess gripped when they made their way down to the main areas of the hotel, and the long terrace from which they took in the views and clean air of the resort is still standing and has been beautifully restored. The suite was decorated by a local Sephardic Jewish merchant, Elias Kabiljo. Kabiljo spared no expense creating luxurious Ottoman-style quarters for the Archduke and Duchess, with carpets, embroideries, wall hangings, and even an Ottoman-style suit of armor. The decor was arranged and overseen by his wife and Franz Ferdinand and Sophie were enchanted with it. “We have delightful quarters,” the Archduke sent in a telegram to his children. “The weather is beautiful.”
FOLLOWING THEM IN SECRET The evening of their arrival, the Imperial couple decided to make a last-minute visit to Sarajevo’s Ba-
ščaršija. While there they made a specific stop at Kabiljo’s shop and purchased even more rugs, porcelain, needlework, and jewelry, making a specific effort to praise the beauty and quality of the shopkeeper’s offerings. The couple had no visible security, and were nearly mobbed in several places by crowds shouting, “Živio!” Most likely because of the lack of security, a gaunt looking student with an intense expression was not noticed. But Gavrilo Princip followed the Archduke and Duchess as they made their way through Baščaršija, a gun in his pocket remaining unfired on that day. It was not the Imperial couple’s only encounter with one of their future assassins: while they walked in the hotel park Nedeljko Čabrinović was seen skulking around the couple, but because his father was known to be a spy for the Austro-Hungarian government, the police did not detain him. While Franz Ferdinand observed the maneuvers of the 2nd Battalion of the 92 KuK Infantry Regiment on Igman, Sophie returned to Sarajevo
on the 26 and 27 of June. She visited Catholic and Orthodox cathedrals along with their associated orphanages as well as a weaving mill where she purchased even more carpets. All along the way she donated funds from her private accounts to Catholic, Muslim, and Orthodox organizations. Sarajevski List newspaper reported, “… people gathered in great numbers, cheering her all the time.” For fourteen years, Archduke Franz Ferdinand had been enraged by the treatment of his wife at the hands of the Imperial Court, but her popularity and warm welcome in Sarajevo greatly moved him.
DEADLY SILENCE He had fought against visiting the city before the journey commenced, but during the banquet at the hotel on the evening of 27 June, his gratitude to the city for its traditional Gostoprimstvo had him raise a toast saying, “I’m beginning to fall in love with Bosnia. If I still had prejudices, they are gone now.” The safety of the Archduke was a major discussion point amongst the 41 guests of the banquet (which featured nine courses). The vice-president of the Bosnian delegation attempted to appeal to the Duchess, who responded to his concern by saying, “Things don’t always turn out the way you say they will. Everywhere we have gone here we have been greeted with so much friendliness, and by every last Serb, too, with so much cordiality and spontaneous warmth.” Franz Ferdinand, however, seemed swayed by the arguments of safety until Bosnia’s Governor-General Oskar Potiorek broke in and nearly accused the Archduke of cowardice, claiming that cancelling the visit to Vijećnica on the 28 would cause incalculable insight and very well might lead to open rebellion against the Habsburg rule. The Archduke

acquiesced, the meeting the next morning would go on as planned. A small chapel had been prepared for the Imperial couple’s private worship within the hotel (its location has been lost to history), and as was their habit they prayed in the morning before attending breakfast and their daily schedule. It was the last prayer service the two would attend. The rest of the story is well known. The Archduke and his wife were driven from Sarajevo’s train station and narrowly escaped a bomb thrown at them near the Ćumurja Bridge. The Archduke gave his speech at Vijećnica from bloody notepaper. The Muslim wives of Sarajevo’s elite met Sophie for a reception. All of Franz Ferdinand’s group, with the exception of Oskar Potiorek, argued for a change to the day’s schedule in the wake of the assassination attempt, but Potiorek again used shame as a tactic against the Archduke, “What, do you think all of Sarajevo is filled with assassins?” he shouted.
and the local sculptor Ljudmila Valić was called to make death masks of the two. A Sarajlije undertaker provided his best coffins. When the coffins were taken to the Bistrik Train Station, Archbishop Josip Štadler gave a final benediction. As reported by Sarajevski List, “All present had tears in their eyes and the deadly silence spoke louder than any words.” As the coffins pulled out of the train station, the staff of the Imperial couple gave the Sarajevo Youth Center 1000 crowns, which the Duchess had planned to donate before her death. Her last act in Sarajevo was not her death, but her bequest to a charitable organization.
As we now know, Sarajevo was. The Archduke and his wife were murdered on the now-iconic intersection at the Latin Bridge. Their bodies were taken to the Konak where they were laid out and autopsies performed,

BOSNA I HERCEGOVINA / BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
ARHITEKTA
ALEXANDER WITTEK
no stradao je u požaru.
jećnice, a zatim izvršio samoubistvo.
ALEXANDER WITTEK
Architect Who Built the Symbols of Sarajevo ALEXANDER WITTEK IS ONE OF THOSE ARCHITECTS WHO DID NOT BUILD MUCH, BUT WHO DID BUILD ENOUGH TO LEAVE A LASTING LEGACY IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA. HE GAVE SARAJEVO TWO OF ITS MOST IMPORTANT SYMBOLS: VIJEĆNICA (SARAJEVO CITY HALL), A REMARKABLE EXAMPLE OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN, A DIVA AMONG BUILDINGS, AND SEBILJ (A WOODEN FOUNTAIN), WHICH IS ENOUGH FOR HIM TO NEVER BE FORGOTTEN IN THIS TOWN. A CHESS GRANDMASTER Wittek was born in Sisak on 12 October 1852 and he lived there until 1870. In Croatian history books he is referred to as a state chess master, i.e. grandmaster, which is a term in this strategic game that will come into use many years later. When he came of age, Wittek moved to Graz and then Vienna where he obtained a degree in architecture in 1875. Even though he had a promising career ahead of him as a chess player, he still decided to play it safe—he became a civil servant which then brought him to Sarajevo. Wittek went down in history thanks to the tremendous success he achieved there.
SEBILJ IN THE MOORISH REVIVAL STYLE Even though there used to be several hundred such structures in Sarajevo, nowadays there is only one sebilj—the one in Baščaršija—and it carries the epithet of ‘symbol of Sarajevo’. The original sebilj, which was built by Mehmed Pasha Kukavica, was located several meters
away from where Sebilj now stands, but it was destroyed during a fire. The present day Sebilj was built in the Moorish Revival Style in 1913 during the Austro-Hungarian period. Wittek drew inspiration for his design in this architectural style in Egypt and Spain which will mark his architectural legacy.
VIJEĆNICA—WITTEK’S MOST IMPORTANT WORK Wittek began working on Sarajevo City Hall—another symbol of Sarajevo in 1882—also in in the Moorish Revival Style in 1882. At the time, the Austro-Hungarian monarchy needed to have a prestigious building to serve as the seat of the city administration. Only later will it hand the City Hall over to the National and University Library. Wittek went to Cairo several times to study the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Madrasa because he used it as a model for his project. However, he did not live to see the end of construction work on his masterpiece. He died from tuberculosis in Graz in May 1894, but some sources say that he developed a mental
illness because there was a lack of light in the City Hall’s main hall and then committed suicide. Ćiril Iveko vić completed the project.
VIJEĆNICA IN BRČKO TOO Another project that links Alexander Wittek with Ćiril Iveković is the Town Hall in Brčko, which was built in 1892 according to Wittek’s preliminary design and Iveković’s detailed design. Both project designs have a triangular ground plan with a central hall and corner towers, but the choice of painted and relief decorations is different. Today, Brčko Town Hall is a protected natural monument in B&H. Apart from Brčko Town Hall, there is another building Wittek designed in Brčko, a town that lies on the Sava River. It is called Alijaga Kučukalić House. Alija Kučukalić was a well-known Brčko merchant and benefactor. The house was also designated as a national monument, but nowadays it is not structurally sound. It used to be one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most valuable structures built in the eclectic Moorish Revival Style. 33

BOSNA I HERCEGOVINA / BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
American magazine Thrillist included Jajce on its list of the most breathtakingly beautiful little towns in the world. Their compelling and uncommon beauty takes visitors’ breath away. “You can still see the ancient hilltop castle, and explore the warren of curving cobbled streets splayed out below. But Jajce’s greatest asset is a natural wonder—the 21-meter Pliva waterfall, which spills over a sheer drop at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas rivers. Jajce is bound by water on three sides, making it a prime base for some of Bosnia’s best white water rafting,” Conor O’Rourke, Berlin-based freelance journalist and translator, writes in the magazine. 50

ENJOY YOURSELF BY THE PLIVSKO WATERFALL Any story about Jajce begins with the magnificent waterfall that sits at the place where the River Pliva enters the River Vrbas. It is no wonder that it does! It is a spectacular sight to see: the 21-metre waterfall right in the middle of Jajce is one of the twelve most beautiful waterfalls in the world which makes this town quite unique. It is a must see natural landmark in this charming little town. As you stroll through the beautifully landscaped park which leads you to the site where the River Pliva comes crashing and foaming down into the River Vrbas, you cannot get enough of how gorgeous and clean the area is! And the moment you set your eyes on the waterfall, you are at a loss for words! You cannot capture the moment on camera or in a song, as one of our old writers would say. From whichever side you approach the waterfall, whether you are looking down from above—from where the waterfall drops down, or from the sides—from landscaped terraces and the park that treat you to wonderful views of this natural wonder, it feels equally spectacular. Stay there for a while and immortalise the moment by taking pictures that you will cherish forever. If you want to truly enjoy yourself, bring a blanket with you, take the best spot

CULINARY SPECIALTIES After a long walk through Jajce’s lovely parks or a zip line adventure, you are bound to get hungry and wish to treat yourself to a good meal. In Jajce, everyone is a good host, and the best way to see it for yourself is to try the local cuisine and culinary specialties. Since rivers in the vicinity of Jajce abound in fish, fish is an authentic dish in Jajce. Historical narratives suggest that trout baked in sour cream, which is also known as the “royal trout”, was a favourite dish at the royal court, and this season you can try it in Slapovi Tavern or in many other restaurants on the waterfront where you can also enjoy the amazing natural environment. In addition to fish, restaurants in Jajce also serve traditional Bosnian culinary specialties—from bosanski lonac (Bosnian stew) to ćevapi (a small rolled patty of grilled ground meat, usually beef, seasoned with paprika, and served in a flatbread often with chopped onions or sour cream), from baklava to modern-day cakes and the inevitable Bosnian coffee. 51

You Should Not Miss Out on in Jajce This Summer JAJCE’S LARGEST RESOURCE BY FAR ARE ITS NATURAL AND HISTORIC LANDMARKS, BUT THAT MUST NOT BE THE ONLY REASON FOR YOU TO HEAD OUT TO EXPLORE THIS GORGEOUS TOWN. IF YOU WISH TO ENJOY THE BEST THEATRICAL PERFORMANCES, WATCH COMPETITORS JUMP OFF THE PLIVA WATERFALLS OR LEARN MORE ABOUT THE TOWN’S MEDIEVAL HERITAGE, THEN COME TO SOME OF THE NUMEROUS CULTURAL AND SPORTS EVENTS THAT ATTRACT A LARGE NUMBER OF TOURISTS EACH YEAR AND MAKE UP A SPECIAL PART OF JAJCE’S TOURIST OFFER. Written by: Semra Hodžić
1. B&H THEATRE GAMES B&H Theatre Games held in Jajce are a real feast for all theatre lovers and they are rightly considered as the most important cultural event of the year. This event is the oldest festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina that has been gathering all the renowned theatre groups from across the country in one place for four decades. This year, the games are scheduled to take place at the end of August, from 28 August to 4 September. Over six days, actors will have the keys to the town. Audience or expert jury awards that have been presented to key actors of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian theatre scene are the pride and joy of all the actors who won them in Jajce. Standing ovations and stories 54
about the festival keep reverberating around the town long after the festival ends.
2. FINE ARTS COLONY – JAJCE ART Jajce seems like a great picture that just needs to be framed, so it is hardly surprising that this very place is a haven for many artists in search of inspiration. A few years back, a traditional fine arts colony took root there and became a traditional event occurring at the beginning of summer at various locations around town which most truly reflect the spirit and character of Jajce and Bosnia and Herzegovina with their historical, cultural and natural fe atures. During their stay in Jajce, painters explore the most important cultural and historical monuments
and immortalise on their canvases the moments they spent in this magical town. Artists’ works produced at the colony are exhibited at the Jajce Town Gallery on the last day of the colony.
3. DAYS OF THE MIDDLE AGES If you want to travel in time in this medieval town and encounter the knights bowing before Stjepan Tomašević, the last Bosnian king, watch them play medieval knight games, or go to a medieval music concert, then plan a trip to Jajce in July because that is when the traditional event called Days of the Middle Ages takes place! Discover and learn the old Bosnian Cyrillic script widely known as Bosančica, learn the basics of fencing, and if you wo-
uld like to try archery, there are archery classes to help you learn! The event, organised by the Agency for Cultural, Historic and Natural Heritage and Development of Tourist Potentials of the Town of Jajce, allows you to familiarise yourself with the town’s medieval heritage in a rather unique manner.
4. FOLKLORE FESTIVALS Just as knights on the streets of Jajce take you back to the past, so do the girls in dimije (loose, baggy and long trousers tapered at the ankle also known as harem trousers, schalwar, Turkish trousers, or Aladdin pants) as they clap their nanule (clog-like high-heeled shoes; they are open and consist of a nice piece of wood treated with two heels and a strap that is pulled up on toes) down the Old Town’s cobbled streets. Dressed in traditional folk costumes and performing traditional dances called folk dances they will stir up heartfelt emotions in you. Organised by “Jajce” Culture and Art Society and held every July, International Folklore Festival “Vlatko Jurić Days” celebrates the richness and diversity of cultural heritage. In mid-July participants from various countries come to Jajce wearing unique national folk costumes during their traditional dances. Apart from dancing, participants and visitors pay visits to photography and folk costume exhibitions, attend folklore evenings
and go to ceremonies to pay tribute to the Jajce-born choreographer Vlatko Jurić for his selfless commitment to passing on his love of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian tradition and folklore to many a generation. If you miss this festival, be sure to go to Jajce in August because that is when International Folklore Festival “Youth Days” takes place. “Old Town” Culture and Art Society organises it.
5. PLIVA WATERFALLS JUMPING COMPETITION Since Pliva Waterfalls are the main attraction in Jajce, jumps off the waterfalls have naturally become widely known. Everyone wants to attend the high-diving competition taking place in Jajce and see bold competitors dive into a 10-metre deep pool from a 20-metre-high platform above the waterfalls. The pool is an additional safety measure aimed at ensuring divers’ safety during the event. The jumps from one of Europe’s most stunning waterfalls feature the “Eagle Dive” category in the official competition programme, and the free style category in the out-of-competition programme. Each year, 30 professional divers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Slovenia sign up for the contest, and jumping becomes the main topic of discussion in Jajce, the small town located on the Vrbas and Pliva rivers, and beyond.

TUZLA
Vaša destinacija za ljetovanje u BiH
ZA 2021. GODINU UREDNIČKI TIM PORTALA IN YOUR POCKET JE SVRSTAO TUZLU MEĐU 21 PREPORUČENU EVROPSKU TURISTIČKU DESTINACIJU. MIKROKOSMOS BIH

proizvodnje soli i tradiciji multietničnosti Tuzle.

TUZLA
Your Summer
Holiday Destination in B&H
EDITORIAL BOARD OF THE IN YOUR POCKET GUIDE ADDED TUZLA TO ITS 21 OFF THE BEATEN PATH EUROPEAN DESTINATIONS FOR 2021 MICROCOSM OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA John Bills, editor of the In Your Pocket guide, argues that Tuzla should be at the top of the list explaining that “it might not get the attention afforded to Sarajevo and Mostar, but that is just the way that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s third-largest city likes it”. “A city of poetry, painting and perseverance, Tuzla’s compact and charming centre shines as its brightest star, although it is debatable how accurate the word ‘compact’ can be when that centre comes with a massive salt lake, making this the only city in Europe with a salt lake at its core. Salt has played the major role in the development of the city over the centuries so it makes sense that good old NaCl is at the forefront of modern Tuzla, through the gorgeous lakes and fantastic Museum of Salt. Throw in the country’s most convivial atmosphere, some of its best pubs and a very famous ćevabdžinica, and you 58
have got yourself a tremendous microcosm of everything that makes Bosnia and Herzegovina so blooming magnificent“, he writes.
CITY ON A GRAIN OF SALT Many refer to Tuzla as the “city on a grain of salt”, and this “grain of salt” actually denotes several hundred million tons of rock salt and salty water. When the ancient Pannonian Sea retreated more than ten million years ago, it left millions of tons of rock salt deposits in this region. Over time, the city expanded and changed, but its name remained salt-related. Remnants of the Pannonian Sea are still visible in the heart of Tuzla—the Pannonian Lakes Complex, which is a unique tourist attraction in B&H and South East Europe. Tuzla is the only city in Europe that has salt lakes and the only city in the world that has salt lakes, swimming areas and beaches in its centre. The City of Tuzla won the 2012 UNWTO ULYSSES AWARD, the greatest accolade of the
United Nations World Tourism Organisation for innovations in tourism. The Pannonian Lakes Complex comprises three salt lakes, saltwater waterfalls a “Neolithic Stilt House Settlement” and a geological museum collection called “Pannonica”, children’s amusement park, and a large number of catering, cultural, and entertaining facilities. The Pannonian Lakes regularly obtain the Blue Flag certificate in compliance with standards set to promote sustainable development in freshwater and marine areas. The standards were modified to reflect the new circumstances relating to the Coronavirus pandemic. In these challenging times, the lakes are the go-to location for visitors to enjoy some quality rest and relaxation without worrying about the risk of contracting the virus.
SQUARES AND PARKS The largest and loveliest square in B&H—the Freedom Square—is a place where the people of Tuzla and
tourists alike meet up and relax. A large fountain adorned with ornaments from medieval tombstnes carved into marble slabs occupies the square centre. there is another square not far from here—the Salt Square—which is an open air museum of sorts. It features a collection of items from the Neolithic and the Ottoman Empire, conserved remains of an old salt well, and a central replica of a fountain made in the style of a Neolithic dish for boiling salt which shows how salt used to be produced back in the day and displays Tuzla’s multi-ethnic tradition. The Salt Square is located in the historical heart of the city around which dozens of narrow streets paved with granite slabs, always brimming with life and energy of its youth, are lined up. The city centre offers visitors several green oases: the City Park, the Salt Spa Promenade, and the Ilinčica Park, enabling them to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The old city quarter, the well-preserved “čaršija”, is dotted with cosy cafés perfect for thinking about the impressions the city made on you and the impressions it is yet to make! The Central City Park, which is linked with the Pannonian Lakes by a pedestrian bridge, includes a monument dedicated to Tvrtko I Kotromanić, the first Bosnian King,
Visit the City of Tuzla Tourist Board’s Tourist Info Centre situated at the Salt Square to get the info you need about all the places to see and experience in Tuzla. The Centre has all the info about the city’s tourist offer, available accommodation options, current events, sightseeing passes, and souvenirs. and a stone obelisk with the Charter of Kulin Ban inscribed on it.
CITY OF CULTURE AND SPORT With each step they take, culture lovers and sport fans will discover that there is something worth exploring! Visit the Tuzla International Gallery Portrait housing a collection of more than 5,000 works of art, and the “Ismet Mujezinović” Atelier exhibiting the works left behind by one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most important artists and academic painters. The best way to experience culture in Tuzla is to attend performances at Tuzla National Theatre, the oldest theatre in B&H, and a wide range of cultural events such as “Cum Grano Salis”, “Interbifep”, “Kaleidoscope” Festival, “Summer in Tuzla”, Tuzla Theatre Days, Tuzla Film Festival, Biennale of Miniature
Art, “TKT” Cabaret Theatre Fest, Sevdalinka Festival, “May Flower” Children’s Song Festival, etc. Tuzla is a city of sports, too. One of Tuzla’s better-known brands is the “Freedom” Workers Sport Association. Founded back in 1919, it certainly shows that only the things we truly appreciate can really last.
VISIT TUZLA! Its guests and visitors say that Tuzla is a city that captivates and wins people’s hearts and minds with its warmth and openness to all people. In Tuzla, you will enjoy a variety of culinary delights because there are traditional Bosnian and international dishes everywhere you turn. However, there is no other place in the world quite like Tuzla. While they revel in various culinary specialties, visitors are treated to unique views of the salt lakes in the heart of the city! 59

BOSNA I HERCEGOVINA / BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
MOUNTAIN BIKING Banja Luka and Kozara are the perfect places for cyclists as they offer a great many exciting mountain bike trails. Vrbas Adventure Resort near Banjaluka offers you a real cycling challenge with three different routes spanning 102 km in total. We recommend mountain biking enthusiasts not to miss mountain bike trails in Mount Kozara which provides habitat for diverse animal and plant species and features large forest areas and numerous foothills, vantage points and creeks making the descent down the mountain even more attractive. Additionally, bike trails in the Trebinje area are also great to ride if you are looking for an interesting experience. Plenty of sunshine, massive rocks and gorgeous scenery make this adventure rather unusual. If you 64
decide to explore the bike trail around the town of Trebinje, wheel along the old roads dating back to the Austro-Hungarian period and visit old towns of Strač, Golo brdo and Petrina. Pecka has recently become quite a popular mountain biking destination. Located near the town of Mrkonjić Grad, its trails cover an area of more than 200 km, feature a network of routes ranging from easy to intermediate and offer a large number of attractions in the nearby area.
PARAGLIDING Have an adventure up in the sky and discover from another angle just how delightful this unexplored location is. The south-western part of Banjaluka is perfect for your first paragliding trip, but it is equally perfect for you if you are an expe-
rienced pilot who always comes back to this place to admire the amazing views of the landscapes it offers. There are several take-off spots in Banjaluka. We would recommend Manjača and Krmine for a unique paragliding experience. Mount Ozren also boasts exceptionally good conditions for paragliding particularly in the spring and summer season when thermal currents reach a height of 2,500 metres above the ground which allows paragliding flights to last several hours and cover over 10 kilometres in distance. In addition, Gljiva (Mushroom) in the Trebinje area is also a reasonably good flying site, whereas the terrain in this area and the charm of Trebinje make this experience worthwhile to any adventure seeker.
FREE ROCK CLIMBING There are many rock climbing locations in Banjaluka with well-protected routes for all levels of difficulty. Kanjon Tijesno (Tight Canyon) is probably the most interesting place to have such an adventure at featuring a 7-kilometre route. What makes this experience absolutely incredible are the magnificent views of the River Vrbas Valley from the canyon’s cliffs. Moreover, Kameni most (Stone Bridge), which is a very unusual natural phenomenon, is very popular among rock climbers. Apart from these locations, Mount Kozara is another perfect location for free rock climbing adventure. “Zečiji kamen” (Rabbit’s Rock) offers a real adrenaline rush for all rock climbing aficionados. Featuring a waterfall that treats visitors to exceptionally beautiful views of the area, it is indeed a one-of-a-kind attraction. There is also the so called via ferrata, which is a 26-metre long route over the rocks called Bijeli kamen (White Rock). It is the first route of its kind in the area offering visitors adrenalin-fuelled fun, adventure and enjoyment as they safely marvel at the wonderful scenery. Another attraction is the Sokolov put (Falcon’s Path) via ferrata in Mount Romanija. This adrenaline-boosting activity ensures maximum safety for adventure and extreme sports enthusiasts on the lookout for new thrills.
ADRENALINE ON RIVER WATERS White water rafting is particularly popular on Tara and Vrbas rivers. You can have an active holiday in the unique natural environment of these two rivers. Rafting camps offer accommodation and allow you to explore adrenaline-triggering activities in the area. In addition to being the perfect location for white water rafting, the River Vrbas is also ideal for kayaking and canoeing. Within a short distance of Banjaluka, there are great sites for Canyoning trips down the Cvrčka and Švrakava rivers. The River Hrčavka Canyon in the Sutjeska National Park, as well as the River Sušica Canyon, which
is situated in Foča Municipality, are not far from there either.

1. SUTJESKA NATIONAL PARK
1. NACIONALNI PARK „SUTJESKA“ Nacionalni park „Sutjeska“ je najstariji i najveći nacionalni park u Bosni i Hercegovini i zbog svojih prirodnih vrijednosti, ljepota i očuvanosti 2000. godine uvršten je u II kategoriju IUCN-a (Odjeljenja UN-a za zaštitu prirode i prirodnih dobara). Park obuhvata široko planinsko područje Bosne i Hercegovine i graniči sa Crnom Gorom, oivičen je rijekama Pivom, Drinom, izvorišnim tokom Neretve, a nadvijaju ga planinski masivi Bioča, Vučeva, Maglića, Volujaka, Lebršnika i Zelengore. U okviru Parka nalazi se sedam glečerskih jezera koje se zbog svoje izuzetne ljepote često nazivaju „gorske oči“: Orlovačko (1.500mnv), Štirinsko (1.677mnv), Kotlaničko (1.514mnv), Donje Bare(1.500mnv), Gornje Bare(1.550mnv), Crno jezero(1.450mnv) i Bijelo jezero(1.417).
Sutjeska National Park is the oldest and largest national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thanks to its outstanding natural values and their preservation, and beautiful scenery, since 2000 Sutjeska National Park has been listed in Category II of IUCN (UN department for conservation of nature and natural wealth). Covering a wide mountainous area of Bosnia and Herzegovina and straddling the border with Montenegro, it is surrounded by the Piva and Drina rivers and the source stream of the Neretva River, and the mountain massifs of Bioč, Vučevo, Maglić, Volujak, Lebršnik, and Zelengora. The park hides seven magnificent glacial lakes within its plateaus and valleys. Owing to their stunning beauty, they are known as “mountain eyes”: Orlovačko Lake (1,500 m), Štirinsko Lake (1,677 m), Kotlaničko Lake (1,514 m), Donje Bare Lake (1,500 m), Gornje Bare Lake (1,550 m), Black Lake (1,450 m), and White Lake (1,417 m).
2. PJEŠČANE PIRAMIDE Ovaj jedinstveni geomorfološki fenomen nastao je dugim nizom godina, erozijom tla i pod utjecajem agresivne sprege mrazeva, ljetnih vrućina, kiša i jakih vjetrova.
2. SAND PYRAMIDS This unique geomorphological phenomenon took many years to evolve. It was formed by soil erosion 68
and the joint influence of aggressive frost, summer heat, rain and strong winds. Interestingly enough, the process of erosion continues today, and, contrary to expectations, the colu-
mns do not disappear but grow. In size and composition, they resemble the pyamids in Colorado, the United States, the Dolomites, Italy, or Đavolja Varoš, Serbia.
3. SAT KULA
3. CLOCK TOWER
The Clock Tower, which is the most visible structure in Foča, seems to be telling people that “It’s time for Foča”. The oldest records about the existence of a clock tower in Bosnia and Herzegovina relate to this one. It was built back in 1758 at the behest of Mehmed Pasha Kukavica, as his endowment. The clock mechanism was donated to Foča by the Dubrovnik Republic. The clock tower was built of stone in the form of a square prism. It is 20 meters high and covered with a tent roof. Once you are there, do not miss the chance to visit the Old Herzegovina Museum too!
4. RAFTING
4. WHITE WATER RAFTING
On the waves of the Tara River, one of Europe’s loveliest rivers boasting a canyon stretching over 80 m, with a depth of 1,300 m, which makes it the world’s second largest canyon after the Colorado Canyon, thrill seekers will enjoy an unforgettable white water rafting experience. The river’s waters are extremely clean, and it is the largest European drinking water natural reserve. That is why it is known as the “Tear of Europe”. The most attractive section of the Tara River rafting trip is the 15-kilometre section from Brštanovica to Šćepan Polje. Camp owners organise adrenaline-fuelled rafting tours for their guests affording them surreal views of the gorgeous scenery along the Tara Canyon and unique natural features of the deepest canyon of the old continent. 69

7. MOUNT MAGLIĆ The highest peak in B&H (2,386 m) is situated right here. Surrounded by the Sutjeska River in the west and Mount Volujak in the south-west, Mount Maglić was made of Permian rock, Mesozoic limestone, diabase and malafir, and glacial traces are also seen.

PALE, GRADIĆ SMJEŠTEN IZMEĐU PLANINSKIH MASIVA JAHORINE, ROMANIJE, RAVNE PLANINE I TREBEVIĆA, PROSTIRE SE NA TERITORIJI KOJA JE IZRAZITO PLANINSKOG KARAKTERA, A OKO 65 POSTO TERITORIJE PALA JE PREKRIVENO PREKRASNIM, PRETEŽNO ČETINARSKIM ŠUMAMA.
P
Krajolik Ravne
BOSNA I HERCEGOVINA / BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
Okamenjeni vodopadi, koralni nakit i bigrene kade ispunjene vodom upotpunjuju ambijent i Orlovači daju čarobnu notu.

Walking and hiking along its trails, hiking, cycling, going on panoramic chair lift and gondola lift rides, picking medicinal herbs, paragliding, paintballing, playing sports and doing recreational activities, making use of football, mini football, basketball, volleyball, handball, and tennis courts, swimming in the pools, enjoying in wellness and spa centres, revelling in a variety of culinary offerings, going on quad bike rides, visiting the lake on top of the mountain, going summer tubing or on tower, loopster, skydive, and alpine coaster tours (this is one of Europe’s longest roller coasters) are only some of the activities Jahorina offers to its visitors, which makes it the most important summer-season tourist destination in the Pale municipality.
IN BETWEEN PALE AND MOUNT JAHORINA— RAVNA MOUNTAIN Ravna planina or Flat Mountain is part of the Jahorina Complex. Its na-
turally isolated landscape abounds in forests and plant and animal life. Marked hiking trails span from Pale to Ravna Mountain and all the way to Mount Jahorina. Ravna Mountain Ski Resort is only 3 kilometres far from the centre of Pale. Well-tended ski trails stretch over 12 kilometres. The main 1,400-metre ski trail is the site of competitions organised by the International Ski Federation (FIS). In addition to winter activities, sliding down a zip line is a huge adrenaline-boosting attraction for many visitors. Other activities worth mentioning are cycling and mountaineering, lake swimming and fishing, as well as the activities that involve water walking balls, pedal boats, tourist train rides through pristine nature, and BBQ picnics, etc. Its gondola lift (with passenger cabins) places Ravna Mountain in the ranks of the most popular regional tourist centres. A gondola lift trip to the top of the mountain is quite spectacular and offers incredible views of the urban part of Pale and Mount Romanija.
Tourist Board of the Pale municipality is actively engaged in the promotion of its tourism-related establishments and potentials. Jahorina, Romanija and Trebević mountains are all parks of nature and climatic resorts with representative features, lovely landscaped areas, gorgeously abundant forests, pastures and wildlife, cultural and historic heritage, and a favourable geographic location. EPIC MOUNT ROMANIJA Mount Romanija dates back to a long time ago. It is also known as Hajdučka gora or Outlaw Mountain because of the numerous stories and epic poems that can be heard even today. Romanija’s best known outlaw is certainly Starina Novak. The cave that bears his name is now a historical and tourist attraction in the Pale municipality. Novakova pećina or Novak’s Cave sits at an altitude of 1,550 metres above sea level. A properly marked hiking trail, which is also reinforced by cables, leads up to the cave (you should not attempt to explore it without professional assistance and guidance). Recently, a very attractive via ferrata (iron path) was created on Mount Romanija. This via ferrata is a protected climbing route, built with a steel cable rail and grips fixed to the rock, and two suspension bridges. It stretches over 350 metres, and the main rock on the ferrata provides amazing views of the neighbouring
area and the Orlovača Rock which is shrouded in a veil of secrecy.
MAGICAL ORLOVAČA CAVE The Orlovača Cave sits on the rocky hill bearing the same name in the small village of Donje Sinjevo, about 10 kilometers from Pale and one kilometre from the main road. Tours last about 30-45 minutes. In addition to Orlovača, other caves include Mokranjska Miljacka Springs Cave and Novak’s Cave. The Orlovača Cave is well known for an incredibly rich array of decorative cave formations—stalagmites, stalactites and halictites—in the most diverse variety of shapes and colours. Petrified waterfalls, coral jewellery and bigrene tubs filled with water add the final touch to the ambience and give Orlovača a magic touch of sorts. Apart from the remains of cave bear bones, certain types of archaeological material were found in the cave such as fragments of ceramics from the Mesolithic, an axe dating back to between 2,500 and 3,500 years, and

A PLACE WHERE MILJACKA’S WATER IS DRINKABLE The Paljanska Miljacka River originates southeast of the centre of Pale in the form of a few stronger karst springs of the gravitational type. Because of its clear waters, low temperature and increased mechanical contact with the air on its rapids and cascades, it is sufficiently saturated in oxygen. The waterfalls at the spring of the Paljanska Miljacka River are a magical sight to see and a sensation for the senses. Its waters are suitable for trout farming, and not far below the spring there are several fishponds and restaurants that are a real pearl of Pale’s tourist and culinary offer. 77

ADNAN DRNDA
Fotograf mističnog podvodnog svijeta MIR, TIŠINA I MISTIČNOST NEPREGLEDNIH MORSKIH DUBINA, IZNENADNE INTERAKCIJE SA PODVODNIM ŽIVOTINJAMA, PRIVUKLE SU ADNANA DRNDU, PO STRUCI ARHITEKTU, DA SE BAVI PODVODNOM FOTOGRAFIJOM.
Poštovati more, znati svoje sposobnosti i limite, poznavati svoje tijelo, poznavati morski živi svijet, uvijek ispoštovati
U BiH najradije roni u Neumskom zaljevu, Boračkom, Prokoškom, Malom Plivskom jezeru, jezerima Treskavice i pećini Vjetreni-

Photographing the Mystical World Below the Surface
THE PEACE, QUIET AND MYSTERY OF THE VAST EXPANSES BELOW THE SURFACE OF SEAWATER, AND THE SUDDEN INTERACTIONS WITH MARINE SPECIES DREW ADNAN DRNDA, AN ARCHITECT BY PROFESSION, TO GET INTO UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY. Written by: Semra Hodžić
TWO LOVES COMBINED He has been free diving from an early age, but he got into the photography world more seriously when he was a student—that is when he became obsessed with taking pictures of architectural shapes and compositions. Since he is a great lover of hiking and being in touch with the wild natural world, soon enough he put architectural photography aside
to focus on landscape photography. In 2008, he began actively SCUBA diving (diving using self-contained underwater breathing apparatus), and then decided to combine his two great loves: scuba diving and photography. He believes that divers, and particularly underwater photographers, are privileged as they get to enjoy the 71% of the Earth’s surface which is made up by oceans and seas. At the same time, they are the best advocates for the protection of oceans and water in general.
EXCITED TO EXPLORE A NEW WORLD When he is diving at new, unexplored diving sites, such as intact caves, glacial lakes, and underwater shipwrecks, he always feels a strong rush of adrenaline and excitement because he is exploring a new, unknown world. When revisiting a diving site, Adnan likes to see his old mates again: octopuses, murines, and colourful gorgonians. He observes if there are any changes at the 80
site in comparison with his previous visits and tries to establish if the habitat is disturbed and threatened due to human activity. Even when he is diving at the sites he has already been to, each dive is a new experience for him, an unexpected encounter with marine animals, a journey to the underwater world of peaceful silence. By virtue of long-standing experience, he is able to make the best out of the ambient lighting available and produce well-composed images. He says that you need to overcome technical challenges to create clear, sharp, well-focused, well-lit images featuring an interesting topic and model. To create stunning underwater images, you also need to capture an encounter with sea life, find a fresh angle to shoot from, or find a unique, previously unseen composition.
B&H UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY CHAMPION Adnan is one of the founders and president of the Sarajevo-based
Adnan is currently recording several films as an underwater videographer: a film about the sunken Second World War ships in the River Danube, films about Plitvička Lakes and glacial lakes in Mount Treskavica, the “For the First Time” series on scuba diving and scuba diving training, and he also plans to go on an expedition and shoot a film on Trnovačko Lake. He regularly reports on the news and writes travelogues for “SCUBAlife”, a Croatian scuba diving magazine. SCUBA Sarajevo Diving Club. The categories and licences he has obtained thus far include the SSI Dive Master certificate, more than 30 scuba instructor specialty licences, CMAS I* scuba instructor, and the HSA licence allowing him to train scuba divers with disabilities. At the beginning of his career, Adnan participated in a large number of underwater photography competitions. He was Bosnia and Herzegovina’s underwater champion from 2014 to 2018. He is very fond of the awards he was granted in Rovinj, Pag, Zagreb, and Belgrade. He exhibited his work in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Zagreb, Rovinj, Pula, and Bruxelles. In 2017, together with Samir Solaković A was a member of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national team at the 2nd CMAS European Championship in Underwater Videography. Held in Herradura, Spain, it was the first time BiH participated in an international competition of this kind. Adnan was named brand ambassador for “Mares”, a scuba equipment manufacturer, as well as for “Hugyfot”, underwater housings manufacturer, in recognition of his continuing efforts and contribution in promoting scuba diving and underwater photography.
SCUBA DIVING SAFELY Adnan says that scuba diving gear that is available on the market ma-
kes this sport extremely safe, on the condition that you follow the rules and that you do not take any unnecessary risks. Diving alone is an absolute no-no. Respect the sea. Know what you are capable of and your limits. Know your body well. Know marine life well. Always stick to your pre-made dive plan and do not change it while diving. It is important to follow these tips to stay safe while taking underwater photos. Never let yourself get caught up in the moment and take “just one more great shot”. Scuba diving safely comes first, and photography comes second. In that order.
THE MOST COLOURFUL SCUBA DIVING ADVENTURES Adnan divides his diving and underwater photo-taking adventures into several groups and environments, each with its own charms and rules one needs to adjust to, including the choice of diving suit, and scuba gear to use depending on the diving depth, and the selection of underwater photo and video equipment, freshwater and saltwater filters, and underwater camera housings. His favourite diving sites in B&H are the Bay of Neum, Boračko Lake, Prokoško Lake, Small Pliva Lake, the lakes on Mount Treskavica and in the Vjetrenica Cave, whereas his favourite sites in the Mediterranean Sea are Mljet, Vis,
Lastovo, Pula, and the Bay of Kotor. The most beautiful and “colourful” aquarium-like diving sites are found in Egypt, in the Red Sea.
UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE Unlike “on the ground” photography, underwater photography demands a certain skill-set. All the parameters we use for land-based pictures become increasingly difficult to maintain below the surface. Underwater photography requires interdisciplinary know-how, a mix of good diving and balancing ability, knowing how light works below the surface and knowing a lot about marine biology. Underwater Photography Course is one of the most popular training courses at SCUBA Sarajevo Underwater Diving Club. Interest in scuba diving and underwater photography is on the rise.
Anyone interested in underwater photography can reach out to the SCUBA Sarajevo Underwater Diving Club at kvsscuba@gmail.com or www.facebook.com/scubasarajevo/, sign up for a beginner underwater photography course and start exploring the world of silence. 81

UZGOJ AROMATIČNOG BILJA
Chloe Narcisse i Chloe Fleur de Narcisse.

A Fragrant Oasis Near Posušje
EACH SPRING, THE VAST EXPANSES OF RAKITSKO FIELD NEAR POSUŠJE ARE DOTTED WITH MILLIONS OF DAFFODILS (THEY ARE A TYPE OF NARCISSUS AND CALLED NARCIS IN BOSNIAN), KNOWN AMONG THE LOCALS AS LILIES OF THE RAKITSKO FIELD. PLANTING AROMATIC PLANTS In recent years, Herzegovina has witnessed a boom in planting aromatic plants and makiag essential oils from them. Herzegovina’s fertile land supports the growth of fragrant plants aroma therapists throughout the world can only dream about. Nada Šarić of Rakitno near Posušje set out on a fragrant adventure: she distilled a lot of wild plants and entered the perfume. She came up with the idea to show the amazing scenery and abundant resources of
her country to people from all over the world because of the hobby she loved and enjoyed so much. That is how the idea to host a Daffodil Festival in Posušje was born.

PREDSTAVLJAMO / INTRODUCING
mnogi glumci, pisci i muzičari nisu mogli odoljeti.

PREDSTAVLJAMO / INTRODUCING
Citizens of B&H do not need a negative PCR test result for Covid-19 to enter Montenegro. In addition, should any tourist happen to contract COVID-19 during his or her stay in Montenegro, Montenegro will cover the cost of hospital treatment.
There is a 1,000-metre long pebble beach in Perast. The surrounding area makes it particularly appealing—a harmonious blend of the sea and its shore lined up with stone quays and stone houses and surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation. The water is exceptionally clean both on this and on the neighbouring beaches and allows edible shellfish farming.
HERCEG NOVI This town of flowers, where all windows face the sun and the sea, enjoys the reputation of one of the hottest towns on the Adriatic coast. There are many structures and monuments in the town and around it of historic, cultural and religious importance. Herceg Novi is also known as the town of eternal greenery because its seafarers brought more than 250 exotic plant species from distant voyages.
TIVAT Despite the growth in elite tourism—the luxury Porto Montenegro and Luštica Bay hotels—Tivat is still a town where you can retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life and 100
find peace away from it in some of the nearby locations, perhaps in one of the secluded beaches. Tivat Tourism Organisation is planning to launch the ‘Your Holiday is in Tivat’ campaign this year too. It allows domestic and regional guests to stay in private accommodation establishments at considerably lower prices varying from EUR 20-25 per night. These prices will be valid until 15 July, after which the terms of the campaign will be modified.
ULCINJ Ulcinj has on offer 33 kilometres of seashore with a sandy beach with pale grey hue and incredibly fine grains. There is no soil, mud or any organic matter in the sand and it is well-known for its healing properties. The most popular place is the Great Beach stretching nearly 13 kilometres in length and about 100 metres in width, and both the shoreline and sea floor are covered by a uniform blanket of fine sand. Sunsets are truly an unforgettable experience many an actor, writer, and musician found difficult to resist.
BAR Bar is one of the sunniest towns on the Adriatic coast enjoying a temperate climate, clean air and water. Sitting on two marvellous shores, Bar offers visitors a unique chance to watch the sun rise on the shores of the largest Balkan lake—Lake Skadar, and observe the golden sun set on the sea shore. The stunning beauty of the area, its shores, sandy beaches, Mediterranean vegetation, cultural landmarks, cultural, entertainment and sports events are all good reasons to visit this Montenegrin town. People keep coming back to Bar throughout the year for the exact same reasons. Guests from Bosnia and Herzegovina love to visit Montenegro primarily because of its amazing seashore, but a lot of them are drawn by the chance to relax in wonderful landscapes, national parks, ethno villages, and by the local food. Its culinary delicacies make Montenegro particularly exciting because visitors can revel in a wide variety of authentic Montenegrin products praised for their high quality and tradition.

NOVA LASERSKA TEHNOLOGIJA
Brzo, sigurno i bezbolno
DO SAVRŠENOG VIDA LASERSKO SKIDANJE DIOPTRIJE NIKAD NIJE BILO BRŽE I BEZBOLNIJE, A RAZVOJEM TEHNOLOGIJE ONO JE DANAS JOŠ KVALITETNIJI I SIGURNIJI ZAHVAT.
Amaris laser omogućuje PRK bez dodira oka tj. i epitelni sloj i dioptrija se uklanjaju laserski u jednom koraku, bez ruke hirurga.
Aparati snimaju prednju i stražnju plohu rožnice.

NEW LASER TECHNOLOGY
Fast, Safe and Painless Path to Perfect Vision LASER EYE SURGERY HAS NEVER BEEN THIS FAST AND PAINLESS, AND WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNOLOGY IT IS OF A BETTER QUALITY AND IT IS A SAFER PROCEDURE THAN BEFORE. OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS, MORE THAN 50 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN RID OF DIOPTRES WITH LASER TREATMENTS. THIS MAKES IS THE MOST FREQUENTLY PERFORMED SURGICAL PROCEDURE DONE UPON PATIENT REQUEST, AND THE ONE WITH THE HIGHEST PATIENT SATISFACTION SCORE. ELIMINATE DIOPTRE VALUES IN 2 SECONDS Nowadays, all types of operations are fully computer-controlled by precise software programmes. Modern lasers can remove one dioptre value in less than 2 seconds. Systems used for tracking the eye of a patient during the operation allow a precise delivery of the laser beam to an exact place regardless of the micromovements of the patient’s eye during the laser procedure. Thanks to the perfect precision and fast softwa106
re systems, all of the procedures performed today are 99% safe. The selection of the method depends solely on the characteristics of the eye, the value of the dioptre and the lifestyle of the patient. Modern lasers can correct dioptre values from -10.0 to +5.0 as well as ±5.0 astigmatism dioptre value, which means that practically 95% of people are candidates for surgery. There is a solution for vision correction for people with dioptre values higher than those stated above. The most sophisticated lenses are implanted into the eyes with
equally good results, and in some cases even better results than laser vision correction.
LASIK METHOD Nowadays there are several methods of vision correction surgery, and the basic types of methods depend on the depth of the corneal incisions. LASIK is the most commonly performed type of surgery for vision correction and the most common choice of surgeons due to its high accuracy, excellent and long-term stable postoperative results, the com-

DIAGNOSTIC DEVICES
plete absence of pain (both during the surgery and in the postoperative period) and a very rare occurrence of complications. This type of LASIK method is fully automated and laser-controlled, without using the knife blade. Femtosecond lasers presented a new step forward in the safety of LASIK surgery. Today, the surgeries are performed exclusively on the latest model of IntraLase femtosecond laser, which is also the most commonly used femtosecond laser in the world. Femtosecond method which uses the IntraLase laser to create the flap together with the Schwind Amaris laser to remodel the cornea is currently the best choice in laser vision correction. It also reduces the possibility of occurrence of dry eye and enables better healing. In general, LASIK with microkeratome (standard LASIK) is the first developed LASIK method which, apart from good technology, also needs an experienced hand of a surgeon to create the flap with the help of microkeratome. Last generations of microkeratome used at Svjetlost Eye Clinic allow very precise creating of the flap on the cornea, regular edges and predetermined thickness and shape. The procedure lasts only a few minutes and does not create any discomfort to the patient.
PRK METHOD Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is suitable for people with negative diopter values, with astigmatism up to 3.0 diopters, in mild irregularities of the cornea, in cases of a thin cornea and corneal scars. Transepithelial PRK (T-PRK, TransPRK, No touch PRK)
is the latest PRK method in which the epithelium is removed by excimer laser. The Amaris laser makes PRK possible without touching the eye, i.e. the epithelial layer and diopter are removed by laser in one step, without the hand of a surgeon. This method has led to a significant reduction of postoperative discomfort and pain for the patient as well as to the faster healing of the eye, and therefore, a faster recovery. At Svjetlost Eye Clinic T-PRK method is exclusively performed with the use of Schwind Amaris 750S laser. Due to the high speed of diopter correction, this laser has extremely precise results (over 98% accuracy), and the small size of the beam diameter results in the smoothest surface which is most similar, or even better in some patients, than a virgin cornea.
KEEPING UP-TO-DATE WITH STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY Over the past two decades, for as long as dioptric laser surgery technology has been present in this part of Europe, the chain of Svjetlost Eye Clinics has been a leader in technological equipment and experience. From the first laser correction surgery in the region which was performed by Professor Nikica Gabrić in 1998 up to the present day, several generations of lasers have been used and surgical methods and laser technologies have been improved to keep the Clinic up to date with the latest advances in ophthalmology. In addition to technological excellence, the experience of the specialist is also indispensable.
OCULUS Pentacam HR and CSO corneal topographers take images of the corneal surface and are the most important examination when selecting candidates for laser vision correction. The apparatuses take images of the front and back surface of the cornea. They show in digital form the actual corneal surface, as well as the mathematical models that indicate the existence / non-existence of deviations from a perfectly healthy eye. Pentacam HR is considered the gold standard (reference device) in the topography of the cornea and it can make 100 images of the cornea in a second, with 138,000 processed points in only 2 seconds. CSO Sirius is directly linked to the excimer laser and allows the use of personalized treatments.
