The house of Nurija Pozderac, a national hero from World War II, is one of the oldest autochthonous Bosnian houses in the area, and it was declared a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Prodali smo 2 vozila u 2021. godini, a imamo i testna vozila.

- Zdravlje i porodica. Svoj posao volim, i to me također čini sretnim.
ARMIN MULOVIĆ, Brand Manager, Porsche BiH
I Live
Porsche “IN 2020, IN SPITE OF THE CHALLENGING CIRCUMSTANCES, WE WERE ABLE TO SELL AND DELIVER 65 NEW PORCHE VEHICLES TO THE B&H MARKET. WE’VE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO ADAPT TO THE NEW CIRCUMSTANCES THANKS TO OUR CAN-DO ATTITUDE.” Interviewed by: Elma Zećo / Photo: Irfan Redžović
H
e has built his career in one of the most prestigious business branches—the automotive industry. He knew right from the start, 14 years ago, that his love for the work he did would only grow in time. And even though he could not have imagined that one day his name would be linked with a globally renow-
ned brand—Porche—his willingness to work tirelessly and face challenges, and his experience and expertise led him to the position he holds right now, and rightly so.
A CAN-DO ATTITUDE You’ve been the Porsche BiH Brand
Manager for more than ten years. The Porsche name has become synonymous with high-performance sports cars. What are the top traits a brand manager needs to have to remain in this role? - The role I’m in really does require adaptability, a long-term quality 25
INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
and image creation focus relating to the Porche name, the right frame of mind and charisma, an honest and open approach to customers in all business aspects, and, by all means, a readiness to live the brand 24/7.
as we can. We want to convince our customers that this is the best Porche to buy. So far this year, we’ve sold two Taycans, but there are also two cars our customers can take for a test drive. I need to point out that the Volkswagen Group has set a clear goal with respect to these projects. It’s expected half of the Porsche models delivered will be electrified in 2025, while it’s forecast that this figure will increase to more than 80% in 2030.
Who’s always been your inspiration to do better? - I think of inspiration in many different ways. I always start and everything always starts with the family, but I’m also inspired by distinguished figures in the automotive industry who have a specific goal in sight and are able to achieve it.
What was the most successful campaign you’ve implemented in B&H?
The pandemic has had a strong impact on business over the past year. How has Porche responded to the new circumstances? - The pandemic took us by surprise at the beginning of 2020, but we responded quickly to the new circumstances. We made it possible for customers to purchase new cars online, and we also implemented a new way to service our customers’ cars without contact with the staff. This allowed us to get back on track. In 2020, in spite of the challenging circumstances, we were able to sell and deliver 65 new Porche vehicles to the B&H market. We’ve always been able to adapt to the new circumstances thanks to our can-do attitude.” What are the most popular Porche models in our market? - In the SUV segment, the Cayenne/ Coupe and the Macan models; in the sports segment, the 911 model, which is an iconic Porche brand, the II generation Panamera G2 model, and last but not least the 718 Cayman and Boxster models.
BEING DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS Porsche focuses on value-generating growth. What are the most important Porche values at the moment? - Porsche has always invested in developing its values. Image matters, 26
“The Porsche Taycan is the first electric Porsche and it’s crucial for us. We’ve invested EUR 6 billion in its development. Now our task is to promote and sell as many Taycans as we can.” but being different from other exclusive brands matters too. We’ve got a different outlook on brand development and customers we sell our cars to. We want to be special, and we are special. Porche symbolises quality, power and luxury. Car manufacturers have faced a huge challenge because of the transition to e-mobility and production and process digitalisation. What does Porche plan to achieve with its innovative production processes? - The Porsche Taycan is the first electric Porsche and it’s crucial for us. We’ve invested EUR 6 billion in its development. Now our task is to promote and sell as many Taycans
- We’re actually really proud of several campaigns that we’ve implemented, and they include the following: Porsche Road Tour or Experience, Porsche on Track which was launched at the Formula 1 Istanbul Racing Circuit, and New Model Promotion. We’ve got high expectations of the promotional campaign we plan to launch this year called Taycan Cross Turismo, and of the campaign to promote the third-generation Macan. What are you working on now? - The automotive industry is shifting its focus towards the electric vehicle segment. We’re putting a lot of effort on helping customers discover the benefits of having an electric car. Some people believe electric cars are the future, but I believe they are the present. It’s an ongoing project. We’re also always working on strengthening the image of the Porche brand in B&H.
FAMILY PROVIDES THE FOUNDATION FOR YOUR SUCCESS Who supports you the most when it comes to work? - You can’t be fully focused on work if you’ve got private issues. Family provides the stability you need and the foundation for your success. Everything else comes down to effort, order and discipline, and if you have that, you can achieve your
sales goals. You’ve got to focus your attention on two things: achieving car sales targets and financial results. What do you do to relax after a long day at work? - You need to be able to “switch yourself off” in the turbulent times of today’s business world and refrain from expressing your emotions. I replenish my energy after work by engaging in various activities that bring me joy. That’s how I get ready for the next work day which is always planned in advance. My sc-
hedule’s always full, and when a sudden change happens, it’s important to be flexible and adaptable to complete the most important task on the schedule at a given moment. Where do you spend your summer holidays? - Never in the same place. But, I always keep my eye on what’s on offer and at what cost and what can be expected based on that. It’s essential to have an adequate place to go depending on the purpose of the trip. Planning a family trip is rather complex because there are several
factors at play. Going to the seaside can be relaxing, but sometimes it’s not. I’m used to spending my summer holiday on the Adriatic coast, but always in a different town. It might be different this year… What makes you happy? - Staying healthy and having a family. If you have that, and if you move forward with one success after another, then you’re even more fulfilled at the end of the day. You’re satisfied and you care about what you do. I love my job, and that’s something that makes me happy too. 27

THE LEGACY OF ITS SCHOLARS, WHOSE LIFE’S WORK WAS TO RECORD AND PROTECT THE KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR SOCIETY, IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL TESTIMONIES OF THE THIRD WORLD Although the Third World is used now as a derogatory term, the phrase was actually coined to describe the nations of the world who refused to follow the narrative of the Cold War; refusing to be subservient client states to either the Soviet Union in the East or the United States in the West. It was the history of these Third World nations that gave them the strength to refuse to be governed by outside powers.
DUVANJSKI PRASLON One of the most powerful testimonies of the Third World is the legacy of its scholars, whose life’s
work was to record and protect the knowledge of their society. For two years the Thomas Cahill book “How the Irish Saved Civilization” topped bestseller lists. The book chronicles the work of medieval monks in protecting the accumulated knowledge of Western civilization from invading Germanic tribes. The same book could easily be written about the legacy of knowledge in the Balkans, where the Franciscan monks in wellknown monasteries such as Kraljeva Sutjeska accumulated books and items of historical interest, studying them and keeping them safe for
successive generations. The work of these monks was considered so vital that they are the subject of one of the first documents guaranteeing religious rights, the Ahdname of Fojnica, issued under Mehmed the Conqueror in 1463 and still kept at the Franciscan Monastery in Fojnica. But the legacy of the scholarly medieval monks did not end with the Middle Ages, and indeed continues on to this day in the Herzegovinian monastery in Tomislavgrad. The monastery hosts a remarkable collection of items from pre-Illyrian times to the present, including numerous manuscripts, 31

Roman ruins, valuable books, and Illyrian remains in The Franciscan Museum Tomislavgrad. Several oneof-a-kind items exist in their collection, but one of the most breathtaking and unusual are the remains of a prehistoric mastodon, for which the name Duvanjski praslon became common, from the Pliocene epoch, more than 2.5 million years ago. Remains of several animals from family Mammutidae were discovered by chance in 2011 when a local resident was exploring the area. Although experts from universities in Zagreb, Germany and Austria have assisted in preserving and studying the rare prehistoric fossils, the majority of the work done on this remarkable discovery, including finding sources of funding, has remained with the Franciscan monks 32
The mastodon remains at the Franciscan Museum are the only fossils of this type discovered in the Balkans, and they can only be viewed in Tomislavgrad. They are not, however, the only items of such rarity held by the studious monks. and those who work with them at the museum. It is an enormous task and has involved painstaking attention to detail. The monastery museum has several Mammutidae fossils on display; but most impre-
ssive is their recreation of the Tomislavgrad area from 3 million years ago, which features a reproduction of the mastodon as it looked in life. The reproduction was created with the help of local artists and carpenters, who checked and rechecked details with paleontological experts to create the most true-to-life representation possible. At one point during the creation of the display, the entire completed backdrop of plants was taken out and replaced because it was discovered that the initial artwork did not align with the time period in which the mastodon roamed the Balkans. The mastodon remains at the Franciscan Museum are the only fossils of this type discovered in the Balkans, and they can only be viewed in Tomislavgrad. They are not, howe-
ver, the only items of such rarity held by the studious monks. Psalters, or prayer books, in both the Bosančica and Glagolitic written languages are on display in the Basilica’s library, which is open to the public. In keeping with the scholarly tradition of the Franciscan monks, copies of numerous books are available for the local community to check out. Librarians are also working to organize and bind newspapers, and discoveries of valuable books are still being made on a nearly weekly basis, including many rare editions which do not exist anywhere else in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
ITEMS OF HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE The monastery in Tomislavgrad also

has an extensive collection of African items, gathered by monks from the area who served missions in The Congo. These include items from traditional masks and artwork to biblical translations into local African languages.
Although sources of funding to uncover and document the extensive history of the Tomislavgrad area have been difficult to come by, the Franciscan monks and the local community work hard to preserve and display as much as possible.
It makes sense that the Franciscan Museum in Tomislavgrad would be able to gather so many items of historical importance, as Tomislavgrad itself sits in an area rich with history. Fields of stećci are passed on the drive into town, and numerous Illyrian grave mounds are scattered through the area. The basilica itself is built on the remains of a large Roman city, and the possible site of King Tomislav’s coronation around the year 925.

INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
P
o velikom broju kandidata, nisam imala posebna očekivanja.
Iznimno smo sretni što Relax Tours i Pino Nature hotel nikog nisu otpustili, iako smo bili zatvarani više puta u različitim periodima.
neizvjesnosti, i dalje smo investirali. Pokazalo se da nismo pogriješili. Krizu smo premostili, a naše veze s uposlenicima su postale jače. Rezultat su noviteti, velika potražnja i nagrade.
sportu i usmjerava djecu ka košarci, a meni kao umjetničkoj duši je drago da djeca uspijevaju kombinovati i muziku i sport uz školu. Obojica sviraju gitaru – Rajan električnu, a Rijad akustičnu.
RURALNI TURIZAM BiH nudi obilje turističkih atrakcija i aktivnosti.
Tamo sam živjela pet godina, dobila državljanstvo i pasoš. Volim raditi s ljudima i promovirati svoju zemlju. 39
INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
AIDA TERZIĆ, the CEO of Pino Nature Hotel in Mount Trebević
Fortune Favours
the Brave
SHE DREAMED OF BECOMING A DOCTOR, BUT SHE TOOK THE SAME ROAD HER PARENTS HAD TAKEN YEARS AGO INSTEAD AND BECAME A SUCCESSFUL MANAGER IN THE TOURISM AND HOTEL INDUSTRY. SHE WON THE BUSINESS ELITE AWARD THAT WILL BE PRESENTED TO HER IN MILAN ON 14 SEPTEMBER. SHE IS ALSO THE CEO OF PINO NATURE HOTEL WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST AWARDED HOTELS IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD. Interviewed by: Elma Zećo / Photo: Irfan Redžović
L
ast year was particularly difficult for the tourism industry, but despite the pandemic Bosnian and Herzegovinian entrepreneurs were able to find new ways to keep their business going. This did not go unnoticed. The Business Elite’s “40 under 40” Advisory Board selected Aida Terzić (39), the CEO of Pino Nature Hotel, as one of the 40 most successful managers in South East Europe under the age of forty. Even though the general public learned about her through music at first, Aida has been involved in the tourism industry from a very young age. Namely, her parents founded Relax Tours, the first privately owned travel agency in Sarajevo, where she also leads marketing efforts. The company then expanded its business and built a hotel in Mount Trebević. Croatian daily newspaper Jutarnji list believes that Pino Nature Hotel is one of the most awarded hotels in this part of the world.
A VIP CONGRESS HALL IN NATURE What was your reaction when you learned you won the Business Elite Award? 40
- I was informed that I was nominated back in March, but I didn’t have great expectations as there are usually a lot of candidates for the award. However, it was only recently that I learned I was short-listed, and this makes me really happy. You cannot do much on your own. I like to think of my team as a family. Their work and efforts are woven into this award just the way they are woven into each of the renowned recognitions Pino has received since it was opened. I’m impatiently awaiting the award ceremony which is to take place in Milan on 14 September. I want to present Pino Nature Hotel and B&H in the best light possible. With the pandemic largely subsiding, the tourism sector is beginning to get back on its feet. How does this impact your business? - Tourism was the first sector to be impacted by the pandemic, but it didn’t start with the closure of airports and catering outlets in March last year. It started as early as January 2020 when we could feel that something horrible was about to unfold, because customers started cancelling their bookings with us. The tourism industry has been on its knees for a year and a half, it has faced the hardest-hit of the COVID-19 outbreak, and it’ll be the last industry to recover. It’s fortunate that the people in our country have realised that, under the circumstances, they could and should start visiting hotels in B&H, particularly mountain and lakeside hotels. Tourism is different this year. In May, we’ve already had customers from across the Balkan region, the Gulf region, and from across Europe, where our diaspora lives, book their stay with us. Tourists started coming to the country earlier than before when the main season was in full bloom from June through August. When it comes to outbound tourism, Bosnians and Herzegovinians are eager to start travelling again, and Egypt seems to have emerged as a top destination offering direct charter flights from Sarajevo. How did you use the crisis triggered by the pandemic to develop your business further?
- We decided to brave the situation. We’re extremely happy that both Relax Tours and Pino Nature Hotel didn’t lay off anyone despite the fact that we had to temporarily shut down our business due to restrictions on several occasions and at different times. We used the extra time on hand to improve our services and refurbish our premises because time was scarce before the pandemic. We built a new congress hall called VIP Panorama on the hotel’s roof featuring large glass windows and offering panoramic views of the area. Our guests are now in search of an extra seat because the Olympic mountain’s congress hall tre-

I don’t think I’d know how to do anything else.” ating guests to wonderful views of the surrounding landscape is quite unlike any other congress hall, and it’s only 10 minutes away from the city centre. Even though it was a time of uncertainty, we kept investing. As it turned out, we weren’t wrong. We’ve managed to found our way through the crisis and the relationship we have with our employees has grown stronger. This resulted in new services, a great demand, and awards.
RURAL TOURISM B&H offers a wide range of tourist attractions and activities. What do you think we should focus on? - On the World Tourism Day you could read between the lines that this year rural destinations would be the most sought-after areas to travel to. Tourists
are looking to explore riverside and lakeside areas and the mountains, and to spend as much time in nature as they can. We can see that at our hotel too: people can sit on the terrace, but they prefer to sit on our outdoor bean bags on the grass. We should focus on what a growing number of tourist around the world is turning to, and that’s adventure tourism, nature tourism, and rural tourism. You play a large and demanding role in the family business. How long did it take you to come to grips with and work your way up in the business? - After graduating from university, I worked and pursued two postgraduate study programmes at the same time. The time I spent in the music industry—singing in a group called Erato together with my friend Dalal—helped me prepare for the business world I was entering. As young girls at the age of 16 or 17, we would close in on deals with large corporations to perform for an audience and with record labels to record our albums. We earned money and made acquaintances with a lot of people, and this experience shaped me as an individual and, among other things, shaped me into the person I am today in the tourism and hotel industry. Tourism seems to have grown on me thanks to my parents. My father was the one who’d play the guitar in our household, so we’d sing and talk about tourism together. I don’t think I’d know how to do anything else. In addition to being a successful businesswoman, you’re also a mother and a wife. What’s your secret to work-life balance? - As a joke I sometimes say that I have three kids, because I have two sons, an 11-year old and a 9-year old, and a husband. I learned early on that if you are organised, you can do just about anything. Music taught me this as well, as did my parents, my mum in particular. She’d come home after work and start making lunch for us while still wearing a suit. I’m a workaholic. I plan errands to run and the things I have to do the night before, and I cook lunch for my 41
INTERVJU / INTERVIEW
kids every day—most of the time when they’re asleep or as soon as I get back from work. I hope I’m a good mum, a good wife, and a good businesswoman. Once the kids grow up, you cannot bring back the time that is gone. That’s why it’s important to be there for you kids. What do you encourage your kids to do? - My husband used to play for the B&H national basketball team. He’s more into sports than me so he’s the one who encourages our kids to play basketball. I, on the other hand, fashion myself as an artistic persons so I’m glad that, in addition to attending school, my kids are able to play both music and sports. They both play the guitar—Rajan plays the electric guitar, while Rijad plays the acoustic one. As a mother, I told them that they need to know how to speak English, have good computer skills, play a sport, and play an instrument. I hope it’s not too much to ask. 42
LOOKING AHEAD What are the best songs for you to chill out to? - At the moment, Adele’s songs. I can feel each song, each word she sings. When it comes to musicians from this part of the world, the legendary Oliver (Dragojević) is a singer after my own heart. I love singers who have a soul and songs that deeply touch your heart. Which destination have you chosen for your summer holiday? - Egypt. Relax Tours has regularly offered this travel destination for the past 15 years. We did take a 4- or 5-year break, but we’re happy to have direct charter flights to Egypt again. Hurghada is the queen of summer travel and provides the best value for money. You can book tenday holiday package deals with airfare and hotel for BAM 900 or 1,000. That’s what I’d definitely recommend you to choose this summer, and that’s what I’ve chosen for my summer holiday too.
What are the challenges that lie ahead of you? - When I was a girl, medicine was a great love of mine. After graduating from the Second Grammar School, my earnest desire was to pursue medical studies. However, my parents didn’t think it was a good idea because they believed that medical professionals aren’t valued enough or paid enough in B&H, and they also thought that it would be difficult for me to balance practicing medicine due to the nature of the profession with being a mother. I sigh whenever I put on a white coat or a white trench coat, but at this point I think they were right. Who’d take over and run the family business? I don’t see myself beyond the tourism sector, but I’d like to give diplomacy a go, in a faraway country such as Australia, which is my second home. I lived there for five years. I was granted Australian citizenship, and I hold an Australian passport. I love working with people and promoting my country.

ĆIRIL IVEKOVIĆ
Arhitekta carskih dvora NA SLUŽBI U SARAJEVU
POMAŽUĆI U IZRADI DETALJNIH NACRTA ZA IZGRADNJU CARSKIH DVORA U BEČU, U ATELIJERU SLAVNOG KARLA VON HASENAUERA, HRVATSKI ARHITEKTA ĆIRIL METOD IVEKOVIĆ ZASLUŽIO JE PREPORUKE JEDNOG OD NAJZNAČAJNIJIH BEČKIH ARHITEKATA KASNOG HISTORICIZMA DA POSTANE SAMOSTALNI ARHITEKTA U ZEMALJSKOJ VLADI U SARAJEVU. GRADNJA CARSKIH DVORA

ĆIRIL IVEKOVIĆ
Achitect who Designed Imperial Palaces Serving in Sarajevo HAVING ASSISTED IN CREATING DETAILED PROJECT DESIGNS FOR IMPERIAL PALACES IN VIENNA IN THE ATELIER OF KARL VON HASENAUER, ACCLAIMED AUSTRIAN ARCHITECT, ĆIRIL METOD IVEKOVIĆ, CROATIAN-BORN ARCHITECT, HE RECEIVED WELLDESERVED PRAISE FROM ONE OF THE BEST VIENNESE ARCHITECTS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE LATE HISTORICISM STYLE AND BECAME AN INDEPENDENT ARCHITECT FOR THE GOVERNMENT IN SARAJEVO. BUILDING IMPERIAL PALACES In 1884, before his studies, under the supervision of the renowned Hermann Bollé, he performed stonework for the restoration of Zagreb Cathedral and construction of Saint Cyril and Methodius Church located in the Upper Town of Zagreb. The following year he taught stonemasonry at the School of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb, and in 1886, without any support and funding, he went on foot to Vienna and enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts. During his studies, he worked with the architectural firm of Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer, which specialised in designing theatres, and following his graduation, he drafted a detailed blueprint for the forefront of the courtyard to Hofburg Imperial Castle and for the staircase hall of the Historical Museum in Vienna. He then moved to Sarajevo.
SERVING IN SARAJEVO For six years, from 1890 to 1896, he worked for the Government in Sarajevo. His first design was the Customs House, which was demolished between the two World wars. On the banks of the Miljacka River he created his most successful project, an anthological example of Historicism—he finalised the desi46
gn of the Sarajevo City Hall which was originally designed by Alexander Wittek. He restored Ali-pasha’s Mosque in Sarajevo which is, in the opinion of most experts, the finest example of classical Ottoman architecture in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Not many people know that in 1893 Iveković created the first designed park in the country modelled on European parks. Without any design restrictions, it was built on a piece of undeveloped land next to a spa and hotel complex in Ilidža, which was also under construction at the time. The park was laid out in a Baroque style with carefully shaped floral roundels and a wooden pavilion featuring a cafe on top of an artificial hill. It was a park with artificial lakes and small wooden bridges, and in the park’s green space there was a zoo. After the World War I, the park began go to rack and ruin, and the present-day park in Ilidža it nothing like the park Iveković had designed.
PROJECTS IN BRČKO AND TRAVNIK Ćiril Iveković completed another project that was originally designed by Wittek—the Town Hall in Brčko. Construction work was finished in 1892 based on Wittek’s preliminary design and Iveković’s detailed design. The layout of the ground plan in both designs is based on an equilateral
triangle with a central hall and side towers, differing in painted and relief decorations and side tower features. Today the Town Hall is a protected natural monument in B&H. Iveković created a similar design for the new building of the Elći Ibrahim Pasha Madrassa in Travnik. The original building, constructed back in 1705, was demolished in 1892 before the new railway line passing through Travnik was built. To compensate for tearing down the original building, from 1892 to 1895 the Austro-Hungarian Government constructed the present-day building of the madrassa which is larger than the original one.
THE MOST PRODUCTIVE PERIOD Iveković then moved to Dalmatia, and that is when his most productive period began. As the architect who designed ecclesiastical buildings for the Dalmatian government in Zadar, he spent almost twenty-five years there, working as an architect, conservator, archaeologist, restorer, and, finally, as a photographer, creating sacred and profane buildings. In 1920, he went to Zagreb to teach at the Technical College. In 1922, he became member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts. He died suddenly in 1993 while preparing to go on an archaeological excavation in Biograd.

SARAJEVO
U okolini Sarajeva mnogo je poletišta nadohvat ruke ljubiteljima paraglajdinga. Među najomiljenijim zbog uslova i konfiguracije terena su Trebević i Bjelašnica, a upravo sa Trebevića je prvi čovjek Extreme Sport kluba iz Sarajeva Mirvad Zenuni letio do Srbije.
In the vicinity of Sarajevo a number of take-off sites is easily accessible to paragliding lovers. Due to the conditions and configuration of the terrain, the most popular ones are located on the Trebević and Bjelašnica mountains, and Trebević was the take-off site from which the Mirvad Zenuni, the most prominent member of the Sarajevo-based Extreme Sport Club, flew a paraglider to Serbia. Within a short distance of Sarajevo there are other great locations allowing paragliders to take off from such as Jahorina, Igman, Romanija and Mrkovići mountains. Anyone who wishes to see what flying a paraglider feels like can try a tandem paragliding flight with Extreme Sport Club each summer. The more adventurous amongst you can take a course in paragliding. After completing a basic paragliding course, you will have the skills you need to fly on your own, for example from the highest peak of Mount Bjelašnica to Babin do, but a paragliding instructor will keep a close eye on you throughout the entire flight and you will be able to communicate with the instructor via an open PMR channel.

U klubu rade i usluge tandem letova.
Ljubuški Paragliding Club is one of the more popular paragliding clubs among the lovers of this extreme sport. Particularly popular is its take-off site which captured the imagination of a global audience. Along with “Slovenian Starts”, “Ljubuški Tower” flying site made it to the top four paragliding destinations in the Balkans. It sits on the southern slope of the Buturovica Hill above the town of Ljubuški, at an altitude of 340 metres, and very close to the Herzog Stjepan Fortress. Pilots from all over Europe and other continents alike love to come here. Fliers from Ljubuški hold the first place in the total sum of kilometres flown and hours spent in the air in Bosnia and Herzegovina—they flew all the way to Nova Bila, a small town near Travnik. Anyone who has tried it knows that this little town in Herzegovina provides the ultimate flying experience for both XC pilots and recreational pilots looking to enjoy the evening thermals and the laminar wind on the hillside. The club also offers tandem fights.

PRIRODA
Sva čudesa
rijeke Željeznice
RIJEKA ŽELJEZNICA KOJA PROTIČE DUŽ CIJELE SARAJEVSKE REGIJE I UZ ČIJE OBALE SE OD DAVNINA SMJESTILA ZNAMENITA ILIDŽA NASTAJE IZNAD SELA TUROVI OD DVA POTOKA – GODINJSKOG I HRASNIČKOG. OD IZVORA DO UŠĆA NA NJOJ SE KRIJE MNOGO BISERA KOJI ĆE VAS IZNENADITI SVOJOM LJEPOTOM. Piše: Semra Hodžić
VRELO RIJEKE ŽELJEZNICE Godinjska pećina podno brda Orlovača, na istočnim padinama planine Treskavice, mjesto je gdje izvire rijeka Željeznica. Dojmljiv je to prizor, gdje voda u pećini ponire u dubok bezdan, a zatim izvire pedesetak metara niže i svoj put nastavlja brzacima i kaskadama.
Svojim tokom prolazi kroz Sarajevsku regiju, najnaseljeniju i najindustraliziraniju regiju Bosne i
Uz obale Željeznice nalazi se i nekoliko popularnih ilidžanskih restorana i kafića u čijim ljetnim baštama možete uživati u savršenom pogledu i vrhunskoj gastronomskoj ponudi.

NATURE
All the Wonders
of the River Željeznica
THE RIVER ŽELJEZNICA, WHICH RUNS THROUGH THE ENTIRE SARAJEVO REGION AND ON THE BANKS OF WHICH THE RENOWNED AREA CALLED ILIDŽA IS LOCATED, ORIGINATES ABOVE THE VILLAGE OF TUROVI AT A PLACE WHERE TWO STREAMS—THE GODINJSKI AND HRASNIČKI STREAMS—MERGE. HIDING MANY WONDERFUL SPOTS FROM THE SOURCE TO THE MOUTH, THE RIVER ŽELJEZNICA WILL SURPRISE YOU WITH ITS BEAUTY. Written by: Semra Hodžić
SPRINGS OF THE RIVER ŽELJEZNICA Godinjska Cave is situated at the foot of the Orlovača hill on the eastern hillside of Mount Treskavica, which is where the River Željeznica originates. It is an impressive sight to behold: the waters plunge into the abyss only to spring up again fifty metres down the hill and then continus to move downward splashing and cascading over and around the rocks. The cave is also rather special and attractive due to a rich 58
array of decorative cave formations. It is thirty metres deep, and between one and five metres high. Deep inside the cave you can hear a roaring sound of water. The cave is home to a large number of animals and birds, such as bats. Fifty metres into the cave, there is an unbelievable natural phenomenon—a river is born under the rocks. Travelling all the way from the rocky terrain of Mount Treskavica and its numerous springs, fresh waters have found their way to the surface through layers of rock to become a river. From there,
the River Željeznica continues to slowly flow downward until it reaches the point where it creates the largest natural phenomenon along its stretch—Kazani, which is located in the village of Turovi.
How to Get There?
You can get to the springs of the River Željeznica from the village of Godinje near Trnovo. Park your car there and then walk across the meadows and through a thick beech forest. It is a half-an-hour walk from the village to the springs.
KAZANI—A NATURAL PHENOMENON Kazani is the most famous natural phenomenon on the River Željeznica and the most popular outing ground in the vicinity of Trnovo. It is situated near the village of Turovi, in the foothills of the Bjelašnica and Treskavica mountains. Kazani was formed where the water, after several hundred meters of calm flow, made a round limestone depression, a cauldron or pot in its bottom, where the water seems to be bubbling up and boiling just like in a large cauldron over an open fire. This is why people named this unusual place “Kazani”. Visitors find the well-maintained outing ground, clean waters and wild nature in the area extremely appealing. The river bed is 10 metres deep, 2-4 metres wide, and 150 metres long. Above the “cauldron”, there is a little wooden bridge that leads up to a lookout point with a bench to sit on and admire the view. It also leads to a waterfall and to the River Željeznica which continues to flow downstream. If you cross the bridge, you can reach another beautiful place in this area featuring an old mill and a watermill. Anyone who visits it is sure to appreciate the rare phenomenon these turbulent mountain waters have created. The phenomenon makes Kazani a very important tourist attraction in the Trnovo area.
How to Get There?
On the way out of Trnovo, follow the signpost to the village of Turovi and drive for about five minutes to get to the place where you can park your car, next to the outing ground. Signposts will show you the way. Along the way, you will also come across an ancient tombstone necropolis. You can reach the outing ground on your way from Mount Bjelašnica too. After you pass by the village of Dejčići and Dujmovići, turn at the signpost for the village of Godinja and go straight on to Trnovo.
Cyclists love to go for a ride along the River Željeznica, and one of the favourite routes among the lovers of the two-wheeled vehicle spans 85 kilometres and passes through the following places: Sarajevo – Babin Do – Kazani – Trnovo – Kijevo – Krupac – Sarajevo. STRETCH OF THE RIVER ŽELJEZNICA From the source to the mouth into the River Bosnia in the Sastavci area near the neighbourhoods of Osijek and Otes, the River Željeznica stretches 27 kilometres. It runs through the Sarajevo region, the most populated and industrialised region in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The most important settlement on its banks is Ilidža. In summertime, Sarajevans love to sunbathe on the wide banks of the River Željeznica in the heart of Ilidža, while on hot summer evenings, they like to stroll along its banks or go on picnic there. A few popular restaurants and cafés affording customers a wonderful view of the river are also located on the riverbanks. Customers can also enjoy a wide variety of culinary options on offer. Originating on the foothills of Mount Jahorina and Mount Trebević, the Black River
flows into the River Željeznica near Trnovo. The White River flows into it near the village of Kijevo, as do a few larger streams such as Kasindolski stream. Near the village of Bogatići right outside of Trnovo, a few years after the Second World War a hydroelectric power plant with installed capacity of 6.5 MW was built on the River Željeznica.
FISHING AND FLY FISHING The River Željeznica is suitable for all types of fishing. Its waters used to be abundant in fish populations, but there is much less fish in them nowadays. However, the river is fine for fishing, and some river sections are ideal for fly fishing. Fishermen say that the best way to catch fish having in mind the size and the shape of the river is by using an artificial bait called a whopper plopper, or a fishing hook with a sinker (for the type of fish you are allowed to catch using this technique). 59

Ovako sada stoji u netaknutoj prirodi, gdje prilikom šetnje iznenađuje i turiste i nanovo mještane.
OLOVO
King Tvrtko’s Mysterious
Obelisk Hidden Among Spruces HIDDEN DEEP IN A SPRUCE FOREST JUST OUTSIDE OF THE VILLAGE OF BAKIĆI NEAR THE TOWN OF OLOVO, THERE IS A GRANDIOSE MONUMENT, ONE OF THE LARGEST AND MOST IMPORTANT MONUMENTS DATING BACK TO MEDIEVAL BOSNIA—IT IS FOUR METERS HIGH AND HAS A STONE SPHERE AT ITS TOP. Written by: Semra Hodžić
A SURPRISE FOR THE TOURISTS People call it nišan (Muslim tombstone), but it is actually an obelisk located on a historical site called Bakići Donji which is where the remains of the remains of the foundations of the Saint Roch Church, ancient tombstone necropolis and large Muslim tombstones from the Ottoman Period, and they are all protected Bosnian and Herzegovinian national monuments. Not much is known about the obelisk. It is believed that it was built by Tvrtko I Kotromanić, the first Bosnian king, in the 14th century, and there is only one legend about the potential underlying reason behind its construction. Namely, Tvrtko I would go hunting for wild boars in this forest. He was wounded on one occasion and narrowly escaped death. That is why he decided to erect a monument at the exact place where he was wounded. From that period until the present day nobody was able to move it. Attempts were made to move and transfer the obelisk to the National Museum. Even though heavy machinery was used, the attempts were unsuccessful. So it still stands there, in a pristine natural setting, and surprises tourists and the locals alike when they hike through the forest.
A RARITY IN THE WORLD From the base to the top the obelisk is more than four metres high, and the stone sphere at its top is 45 centimetres high. Caravans, horses and mules carrying ore from the nearby mines used to pass by the obelisk, and that is why the place is called Konjsko (Horse’s Place). Mysterious and unusual, the obelisk is a rare phenomenon in the world. There are many assumptions about it, but the most prominent B&H historians, such as Dubravko Lovrenović, Ćiro Truhelka i Šefik Bašlagić, agree that it is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most important and interesting medieval monuments. Lovrenović wrote that one of the Bosnian nobleman or feudal lord might have been buried underneath it during period when Islam first started to spread in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the nearby Svatovsko groblje (graveyard) indicates this as it was built around the medieval graveyards called Kaursko groblje.

U njoj živi go -
RADOVANOVIĆEV MOST – ARHITEKTONSKO SAVRŠENSTVO Svi oni koji odluče posjetiti špilju Vjetrenicu ovog ljeta moći će vidjeti još jedan dragulj ovog bh. prirodnog blaga. Radovanovićev most je zidan kamenom i arhitektonski savršeno izveden još prije 60 godina!
Turistički obilasci Vjetrenice traju 40 do 60 minuta. Fairies Used to Live in
STUNNING BEAUTY, SPACIOUS CORRIDORS AND CHAMBERS, UNDERGROUND WATERS AND WATERFALLS, AND THE WIND THAT KEEPS BLOWING ALL THE TIME MAKE THIS CAVE RATHER UNIQUE ON A GLOBAL SCALE. LEGEND HAS IT THAT FAIRIES USED TO LIVE IN IT. THEIR VOICES CAN STILL BE HEARD. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CAVE IN B&H Decorated with spacious corridors, chambers, waterfalls, several permanent streams and small recurrent flows with underground lakes, Vjetrenica is one of the world’s most beautiful and longest caves. It was first mentioned by Pliny the Elder in the 1st century. He described it as “an unnamed cave famous for a strong wind at its entrance” in the world’s first scientific encyclopaedia called Natural History which was completed way back in 77 AD. On the right-hand side of the entrance to the cave there are two carved stones, typical for medieval tombstones that are scattered throughout the country. Carvings depict deer hunting scenes and knights engaging in combat. Some of these drawings are estimated to be 10,000 years old. The most important archaeological discoveries found in the 64
cave are the remains of a cave bear and a now-extinct leopard. Vjetrenica, which means “wind cave”, owes its name to a fascinating phenomenon that was observed there—a strong blast of cold air, or “wind”, which blows from its entrance. But it is not a wind that the cave produces; rather, it is a physical phenomenon. The air strongly circulates from the cave interior to the exit to counterbalance the constant, internal temperature inside the cave, with the changing temperature of the air outside.
THE MOST BIO-DIVERSE CAVE IN THE WORLD Vjetrenica is the most bio-diverse cave in the world. It is home to nearly 230 animal species, the bestknown of which is the olm (Proteus anguinus), an endemic species also known as “čoviječija ribica” (which literally translates as “human
fish”, since the coluor of its skin resembles human skin). The most systematic biological research of Vjetrenica was conducted from 1912 to 1922 by a Czech scientist named Karel Absolon. A channel in which fog frequently forms was named after him (Absolon’s Channel). From 1924 to 1929, Mihajlo S. Radovanović conducted speleological research there as well, created a detailed map of the cave, and produced the first monograph on Vjetrenica Cave.
NOMINATED FOR INSCRIPTION ON THE UNESCO LIST Vjetrenica was developed for tourism purposes even before 1964. It became a protected natural monument in 1952, and it was categorised as a special geological reserve in 1965. In 2004, Vjetrenica was nominated for inscription on the UNESCO Tentative World Heritage List.
How to get there?
If it is inscribed, it will become the first natural phenomenon in B&H on the list. In 2007, the Natural and Historic Area of the Village of Zavala and the Vjetrenica Cave was inscribed on the UNESCO Tentative World Heritage List. In 2021, the Act on Declaring the Area of the Vjetrenica Cave and a Part of the Popovo Field a Protected Landscape called “Vjetrenica-Popovo Field” was enacted. It will take a lot of time to protect this natural treasure, but the most important results were achieved as part of a comprehensive project implemented from 2017 to 2019.
RADOVANOVIĆEV MOST—A PERFECT WORK OF ARCHITECTURE Anyone who decides to visit the Vjetrenica Cave this summer will be able to see a gorgeous piece of architecture near this natural treasure. Radovanovićev most is a perfectly built stone bridge dating back to 60 years ago! The cave channel that runs alongside the bridge is 220 metres long and ends in a siphon Black Lake. It is located 150 metres from the place where the current tourist path ends, and anyone who decides to explore the cave is sure to love it.
ALONG THE ĆIRO RAILWAY TRAIL TO VJETRENICA From this year onwards, Outdoor Active, the largest European platform for outdoor tourism, will be featuring Herzegovina’s tourist offer. Together with the Herzegovina Bike team, you can cycle to Vjetrenica along the old narrow gauge railway trail called Ćiro which has been reconstructed into a bicycle path. The path runs from the town of Trebinje to Vjetrenica and the Zavala village, which is the final stop of this day tour. As part of the tour, you can visit the Vjetrenica Cave and the Zavala Monastery.
A NEW PROMENADE Railway tracks which were laid on the access path to the cave during
The Vjetrenica Cave is located in the southernmost part of the country, in the Ravno Municipality. Its entrance sits 300 metres east of the centre of the village of Zavala, at the very end of the Popovo Field, at an altitude of 260 metres. It is 80 kilometres away from Mostar, and at a 12-kilometre air distance from the Adriatic Sea.
the Austro-Hungarian Period have been protecting Vjetrenica for the past 120 years. The path they run through has been reconstructed and now there is a promenade along the cave from Crkvina. It leads to the future Information Centre where visitors will be able to buy the recently published Vjetrenica Monograph. It is a guidebook for the cave actually, featuring a wide variety of species, a number of great maps and a large number of photos.

CAZIN
Impresivno blago
bisera Krajine

CAZIN
Impressive Treasure of the
Krajina Jewel
SPOTLESSLY CLEAN AND FULL OF GREENERY, WITH WARM AND WELCOMING PEOPLE—THIS IS HOW YOU WILL BE GREETED IF YOU COME TO VISIT CAZIN, A TOWN IN NORTHWESTERN B&H THAT APPEALS TO VISITORS WITH GORGEOUS SITES AND THE WAY THE PEOPLE OF CAZIN CARE FOR THEIR TOWN. Written by: Semra Hodžić
THE ONLY CASTLE IN B&H Anyone who decides to head to Cazin will not want to miss out on visiting the impressive Ostrožac Castle, perhaps the prettiest castle and only castle in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is a number of little old towns in the vicinity of Cazin, but none quite like Ostrožac. Built in a neo-Gothic style, the lovely castle is situated in one of the largest fortified towns on B&H. Since it is a protected national monument, Ostrožac is one of the main tourist attractions in Una-Sana Canton. The people of Cazin have kept it alive to the present day. They love to walk along the castle’s walls and organise various sorts of events in the castle’s large courtyard, a perfect venue for concerts, trade fairs, and festivals. In May each year, it is host to a recognisable event in the world of sculptures, which has 68
entered its sixth decade of existence—the “Ostrožac“ Colony of Sculptors, and over the course of the year, it is home to a valuable collection of sculptures. For those who dream of a fairy-tale wedding in a medieval castle or just a photo shoot allowing the newlyweds to create a perfect wedding photo album, Ostrožac hosts wedding ceremonies each Saturday. If you decide to simply walk around Ostrožac, there is a public toilet, a stand selling bottled water, and a free wi-fi hotspot. Be sure to buy a few original items from a souvenir shop.
THE HEART OF CAZIN No less impressive are Cazin’s old quarters. You will first notice how stunningly clean the town is, and this is something Cazin is on par with other towns across Europe. It
is no surprise that it received the “Champions of Environmental Protection 2021” award in the towns and municipalities category on the World Environment Day. The remains of the old fortress of town of Cazin dominate the city and its surroundings, and a mosque sits on the highest point in town. Evidence of prehistoric habitation on the site of the old fort was discovered during archaeological excavations. The fort was abandoned when an uprising against Omer Pasha Latas broke out in Cazin, and that is when the last canon was fired. A mosque was built within the ramparts of the mediaeval fortress, with the stone from the fortress, and was one of the largest mosques in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Together with the mosque, the ramparts of the old fortress were designated a national monument of B&H. In addition to the medieval
fishing or relaxing on the hidden beaches along the emerald-coloured waters of the Una River.
OUTING SPOTS IN CAZIN Nature has blessed Cazin with a treasure of unmatched scenic beauty, and the people of Cazin have created a great number dedicated picnic grounds and swimming spots along the rivers around Cazin or elsewhere. The best swimming spots and resorts are situated in the valley of the Una River. One of the most popular swimming and picnic spots on the Korana River is located in the Tržac neighbourhood on the outskirts of Cazin. Just a few kilometres away from Cazin, a watermill, also known as “Mlin” among the locals, is nestled in the picturesque scenery of the Krajina region, which is why it is considered the prettiest outing spot around. Rivers and creeks in the vicinity of Cazin are dotted with town, there are other cultural and historic treasures to see in Cazin. Nurija Pozderac’s House, one of the oldest autochthonous Bosnian houses in this region, which was also designated a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is situated in the very centre of Cazin. Nurija Pozderac was a national hero from World War II. Near the Pozderac House, there is a beautiful madrasa, which bears the name of the most well-known religious teacher in the region and the former Grand Mufti Džemaludin Čaušević.
THE STRONGEST TOWN IN BOSNIA Just like its name suggests, the old Bijela Stijena Fort (White Rock), situated in the settlement of Stijena, to the left of the Cazin-Bosanska Krupa road, about 10 km from Cazin, has stood the test of time and resisted multiple military attacks. The Bijela Stijena Fort dates back to the medieval and Ottoman Periods, and nowadays it is a protected national monument of B&H. From the time it was first mentioned in the charter of King Carlo Roberto issued on 9 December
1330, was known under different names—Stina, Villa Stina, Pusta stina, etc. In the Middle Ages, there used to be a Franciscan monastery in Stina, and in the first half of the 20th century, a mosque, a maktab, and a school opened in 1929 were found in the fortifications. The fort is bordered by a steep slope at the north, and by the bed of the River Horljava. The town seems to have been named after the river. One legend has it that it was named after a white rock, also known among the locals as ičicar, which is situated in the river bed. Another legend has it that it was named after a rock near the settlement of Krakovići, which is where the River Horljava goes underground. It is a subterranean river that flows into the Una River. The Una River is certainly one of the most important natural tourist resources the town of Cazin has to offer. It offers outdoor tourism aficionados a wonderful walking route stretching all the way from the Old Town of Ostrožac along the Una River Canyon to the settlement of Miostrah bearing a cool title—“Una Valley”. In addition to walking the trail, tourists can enjoy rafting down the river, fly
watermills. Some of them have recently been reconstructed to reflect the old style charm from days gone by and new amenities have been added in order to attract more visitors to the area. You can see such mills in the following picnic grounds: Pivnice, Šturlićka Platnica or Gračanica. National monuments, towers and old towns, a lot of greenery, a large number springs with potable water—these are the things to see and revel in if you decide to visit Cazin this summer. 69

Una Tourism Star in B&H NATIONAL PARK
IN THE SUMMER OF 2020 THE MIND-BLOWING NATURAL LANDSCAPES OF UNA NATIONAL PARK WERE A TRUE DISCOVERY FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF BOSNIANS AND HERZEGOVINIANS. AS THEY EXPLORED THE COUNTRY, THEY CAME TO REALISE THAT SOME OF THE MOST SCENIC LOCATIONS IN OUR COUNTRY ARE NOT TO BE MISSED. Written by: Semra Hodžić
AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS In the tourism world, Una National Park has become a recognised brand, even in the first year of the coronavirus outbreak, receiving a Recognition for Successful and Responsible Business. The regional market recognised how valuable it is, so “Una” National park is among the nine recipients of the prestigious “Tourism PRISM” award in the “Eco and Ethno Tourism” category. The Una River is truly wonderful, but the way park employees cherish it is even more wonderful. Each spring for almost a decade now they organise an environmental clean-up event called “Just a little good will”, as part of the ongoing effort by the City of Bihać to clean the entire area covered by the National Park—from the riverbanks to the riverbed. Because of its care for the environment, Una National Park also received the “Champions of Environmental Protection Award, B&H Green Awards 2021” in the business category.
THE TWO MOST GORGEOUS WATERFALLS IN B&H Una National Park is home to two of the ten most gorgeous waterfalls in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe. One of them is the stunning 24-metre Štrbački buk located just before the first larger Una River canyon. This natural pearl is now
easier to reach, because the 5.2-kilometre road leading to Štrbački buk has recently been modernised and asphalted. Una National Park employees have worked diligently to prepare it for the season so a water supply system was constructed and a rainwater drainage system was completed. If you decide to cycle to Štrbački buk, “Recro Bike Station” allows you to use the basic tools to

SUMMER AT UNA NATIONAL PARK Each summer, Bihać is the centre of the world. That is how its visitors feel in the summer season because it hosts a multitude of events and activities that make hot summer days fly by. This year will be not be any different. In addition to the regular activities, film enthusiasts will once again be able to watch some great film screenings from boats on the Una River as part of the 3rd “Avant & Una“ film festival scheduled to take place on 20th – 25th August. The management of Una National Park decided to enrich this year’s programme by adding a scientific and educational adventure to it—a documentary author film “In the Footsteps of a Bear Called Ljutoč BH 001”. This summer, a Mother Tongue and Culture Summer School called “Let’s Speak Our Language” will be held in Bihać on two occasions: on 26th – 30th July and then on 9th – 13th August. The aim is to promote and affirm Bosnian and Herzegovinian language and culture among young people in the diaspora between the ages of 11 and 18. In addition to classes, i.e. learning the language and discovering more about the culture and local and national history, students will also have a chance to enjoy the natural scenery and tourist potentials in the City of Bihać. 73

JAPODSKI OTOCI

JAPODSKI OTOCI
Spending the Night Beneath a Million Little Stars
IN RECENT YEARS, JAPODSKI OTOCI (JAPODI’S ISLETS) HAVE BEEN THE MOST POPULAR PLACE TO VISIT IN B&H. THE ISLETS ARE SITUATED AT A 16-KILOMETRE DISTANCE FROM BIHAĆ AND SURROUNDED BY GREENERY AND UNA, ONE OF THE MOST GORGEOUS RIVERS IN B&H. FIVE WOODEN LITTLE BRIDGES LINK FIVE RIVER ISLETS, AND AERIAL VIEWS OF THE AREA REVEAL A UNIQUE WONDER—“A HEART IN NATURE”.
SPENDING THE NIGHT IN A GLASS DOME If you have grown tired of hotel rooms and suites and you would like to try something completely different, then you will like the idea of staying in a glass dome. TREEHOUSE JAPODSKI OTOCI
JAPODSKI OTOCI TREE HOUSE
On Japodski otoci, the heart-shaped islands on the Una River just outside of Bihać, a lovely little tree house was built in a tree. A long wooden bridge leads up to the tree house nestled next to the river. The view of the stunning emerald green river from the spacious deck alongside the house will make you want to stay here all day long. Sipping coffee to the sound of bubbling water feels priceless, but reclining in a net lounge chair placed on the deck gazing at the beautiful sunset as the sun sets down and the night falls over the island and the Una River feels blissful. You will not find such a romantic place for two people to stay and a family to spend a peaceful holiday at.

RAFTING NA DIVLJIM VODAMA VRBASA Ukoliko volite izazove, nemirna kanjonska rijeka Vrbas nudi istinski – zahtjevni rafting spust dužine 12 kilometara u periodu od maja do oktobra.
RAFTING ON THE WILD WATERS OF THE VRBAS RIVER If you are up for a challenge, Vrbas is a turbulent canyon river offering a truly demanding 12-kilometre whitewater rafting trip from May through October. The trip on the wild waters of the Vrbas River starts at Torlakovac right outside of Jajce, goes underneath the Pliva Waterfall, and takes 3-4 hours to complete. During the trip down the river, you will make a stop at the Vinac Camp and later on at the site on the banks of the Vrbas River where people traditionally grill their food. Trips can be shorter than that too. Every year in June, except in the 2020 pandemic year, the 25-kilometre International Whitewater Rafting Regatta that runs from Torlakovac to Prud is held in Jajce. One and a half hours into the regatta, a lunch break is taken in the Vinac Camp, and participants in the regatta then paddle to the Pliva Waterfall, which is the place to swim and jump into a pool.
KAYAKING ON THE GREAT LAKE In addition to swimming, the waters of the Great Lake (Veliko jezero) are perfect for kayaking, canoeing, and boating alike. You can rent different types of boats from Jajce Kayaking/Canoeing Club on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The club has been active for more than 50 years and it also competed for Team B&H in the world championships. Owing to the club, Jajce started hosting state championships again and gathering the best kayakers, and the club welcomes rowing teams competing for Serbia and Turkey when they come to Jajce to prepare for competitions. On the Great Lake, you can also rent pedalos and boats offering lunch served onboard. Those who wish to have more fun and experience an adrenaline rush can rent water balls from the locals.

RAFTING SAFARI ON THE PLIVA RIVER As opposed to the turbulent waters of the Vrbas River, the waters of the Pliva River are slow and calm. You will definitely be delighted if you decide to try out a rafting safari down the Pliva River. Its banks are home to a large number of birds, while its waters are rich in fish, and you can see them while rafting. You might even encounter wolves. The trip starts at Pljeve near the town of Šipovo and takes you to the Great Pliva Lake. Rafting trips run from March to October at a cost of BAM 30-50.
CATCH AND RELEASE FISH
ZIP LINE ACROSS THE PLIVA WATERFALL Everyone wants to give travelling across the 250-metre Pliva Waterfall a go. Experience this unique zip line adventure by riding down a cable across the River Vrbas Canyon to the viewing area right across the Pliva Waterfall, and then fly down to the Town Park across the waterfall. You can revel in the views of this breath-taking waterfall from all sides, but those who flew down the wire say that the views it offers are priceless. A ride across one of the world’s most beautiful waterfalls costs BAM 20. 84
Jajce abounds in water resources and fish. All fishing techniques are used on the Pliva River and its lakes, including fly fishing. The same is true for the Vrbas River. You can catch different kinds of fish including the “royal trout”. Tradition says that it was a favourite dish at the royal court. Foreign guests are quite amused by the practice of catching and releasing fish back to the water. If you want to go freshwater fishing, you have to obtain a fishing licence. Get in touch with one of the local fishing associations to purchase an annual or daily fishing licence.

CYCLE FROM JAJCE TO BUSOVAČA
ROYAL HIKING TRAILS There are plenty of sources of water in the vicinity of Jajce, but there are also a lot of hills and mountains there that people have been exploring since the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. An hour away on foot from the centre of Jajce sits Mount Hum treating visitors to priceless views of the royal town and the amazing flora of the surrounding area. Since all good things in life require effort, getting to this viewing site on foot is rather demanding. If you decide to head out to Mount Hum, you can visit the place where Stjepan Tomašević, the last Bosnian king, was buried, and while you are at it you can also explore the impressive botanical garden which is owned by Sakib Klika, the doyen of Jajce’s hiking scene. If you ask hikers, they will recommend you to hike along the Bešpelj-Komotin trail allowing you to explore a few medieval necropolis sites, a viewing spot above the Ugra Canyon, and the remains of the medieval castle of Komotin. The well-known Mount Ranča featuring a renowned ski resort is nearby. The highest peak in the Jajce Municipality sits there. The Naked Mountain (Gola planina), offering views of Jajce and the Pliva lakes, is also close by.
You will soon be able to cycle from Jajce to Busovača along the tracks of the old railway. Spanning more than 100 kilometres, a cycling trail will link five towns: Jajce, Donji Vakuf, Travnik, Vitez and Busovača. It part of a project which aims to develop a cycling trail along the tracks of the old ra ilway from Jajce to Busovača and promote it on an iternational level together with sightseeing tours of the nearby rural areas, cultural, historic and natural heritage sites, catering establishments offering culinary delicacies, and accommodation facilities.

PROKOSOVIĆI BEACH Modrac is an accumulation lake predominantly situated in Lukavac Municipality, even though it also touches the bordering areas of Tuzla and Živinice municipalities. It was created artificially by constructing a dam on the River Spreča. Lake Modrac is 12 kilometres long and 700 meters wide on average with a maximum depth of 14 meters. Stretching across around 1,500 metres and providing various facilities and amenities, the beautiful and well-maintained beaches in the local community of Prokosovići have always attracted visitors. The beach has restaurants, hotels, and cafes, as well as handball, basketball, and beach volleyball courts. For many years it was considered the best beach in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Various events have been held there over the years. In addition to this artificial beach, the Modrac lakeshore has many lovely spots for relaxation and recreation. Even today, many are happy to come to the lake on holiday. Guests can find accommodation in a hotel or a motel. As part of its catering and hotel business, “Em-Oniks”, a company from Lukavac, opened the “Senad of Bosnia Hotel”, sitting on the shore of Lake Modrac, in 2000, and the “Oniks Motel”, located at the main junction on the road from Lukavac to Tuzla, in 2008. 87

Ovaj nacionalni spomenik izgrađen je prije Drugog svjetskog rata, a i danas plijeni svojom ljepotom.
WHAT TO DO AT LAKE MODRAC Spending time at Lake Modrac will allow you to take some rest. Taking long walks, eating in budget-friendly restaurants and sunbathing will help you replenish your energy. You can also have fun playing beach volleyball, handball and basketball, or go for a taxi ride around the lake. Fishing enthusiasts can also fish on the lake. It is a habitat for various plant and animal species with nearly a hundred bird species. The most prevalent among them are ducks and grey herons. Flocks of swans swim on the nearby ponds. Upon arrival or departure, stop by in Lukavac, walk along the new promenade, and visit numerous cultural and historical landmarks, the most important of which is St. Ante Padovanski’s Church, to the north of the railway. Built before the World War II, the beautiful national monument is still captivating.

intenzivnije zahvaljujući izvozu suhe i sirove šljive.
Tu u starom gradskom jezgru zvanom Kolobara možete posjetiti najvažnije znamenitosti Brčkog, danas simbole grada - Vijećnicu i hotel „Posavina“.

nacionalni spomenik BiH. Među poznatim znamenitostima su i Krsmanovića kuća, velika i lijepa kuća zvana Dvorana izgrađena 1875. godine, zatim zgrada Islahijeta, također proglašena nacionalnim spomenikom

BRČKO
A Charming Town
on the Banks of the River Sava
THE CHARMING TOWN OF BRČKO SITS AT THE END OF THE FERTILE SEMBERIJA PLAIN, WHERE THE MOUNTAIN RIVER BRKA FLOWS INTO THE MIGHTY RIVER SAVA. LOCATED AT A JUNCTION OF WATER AND LAND ROUTES LINKING B&H WITH WESTERN EUROPE, BRČKO IS A GUARDIAN OF THE NATURAL BORDERS OF B&H. Written by: Semra Hodžić
A TOWN OF BRIDGE BUILDERS, FERRY OPERATORS AND DERBENDŽIJE Brčko was first mentioned as a settlement and fortress in 1526, i.e. in 1533 in Ottoman documents. The town began to develop at the site of an old passenger ferry terminal, at the confluence of two rivers. It was inhabited by bridge builders, ferry operators and derbendžije or people who were in charge of protecting road communication in gorges. Brčko began to develop at a fast pace after 1548, when a road from Tuzla to Brčko was built. Back then, Brčko was part of the Tuzla district. After that, it developed more intensively thanks to the export of prunes and raw plums. Before long, the town became a trading centre exporting 92
25-30,000 tonnes of dried prunes to Austria, Germany, England, and the USA. Even today, it is a well-known fruit-growing area.
TOWN PROMENADE When you come visit their town, the people of Brčko will tell you to go for a walk along the town promenade. There, in the old town quarters called Kolobara, you can take a walking tour of the most important sites in Brčko, the symbols of this town—the Brčko City Hall and the “Grand Hotel Posavina”. Built in the typical Austro-Hungarian style, the “Grand Hotel Posavina” was the first town hotel. Alijaga Kučukalić, a Brčko merchant, had it constructed with his own funds in 1891. His house near the White Mosque is also of architectural value, which is why it is protected as a national monument of B&H.
THE BRČKO TOWN HALL OLDER THAN THE SARAJEVO CITY HALL In addition to “Posavina”, another symbol of this town is the building of the Brčko Town Hall, which is irresistibly reminiscent of the Sarajevo City Hall. It is even older than the Sarajevo City Hall. They share the same architects and style of construction—the Brčko Town Hall was built in the neo-Moorish architectural style in 1892 according to the conceptual design of architect Aleksandar Wittek and the detailed design of architect Ćiril Iveković. Since it was constructed, it was home to the Brčko Municipality, the post office, the telegraph office, the River Sava Port Authority, and the Town Library. It is now home to an art gallery. The Brčko Town Hall was designated as a national monument in 2004.
TEN NATIONAL MONUMENTS The multi-religious nature of Brčko District is reflected in the religious buildings of the Orthodox Christian, Islamic and Roman Catholic faith. Both old and modern architectural styles seem to attract the attention of a growing number of tourists. Rich in history, this town has got as many as ten national monuments. One of the most interesting monuments to see is the Atik-Sava Mosque, the oldest mosque in the region. It is a small wooden edifice built in 1600 for the needs of the local inhabitants and soldiers who protected the fortifications around Brčko. The Gradaščević Tower in the village of Bijela near the River Tinja, which was built by the brother of Husein-kapetan Gradaščević, aka the Dragon of Bosnia, is also an interesting site to explore. It was once owned by the famed Gradaščević family, and today it is a protected national monument of B&H. Other wellknown sites include the Krsmanović House, a large and beautiful house called the Hall built in 1875, the Islahijeta building, which was also declared a national monument of B&H, the White Mosque, and the Hadži-Pasha Mosque which is made of wood.
A FAVOURITE PICNIC GROUND The people of Brčko prefer to spend their time in the stunning scenery
In addition to the River Sava, Mount Majevica is also an interesting picnic spot. The villages of Mount Majevica show just how rich in architectural works, customs and traditions dating back to many centuries ago this rural area is. of the River Sava. Their favourite picnic ground called Ficibajr is located there. In the late 1960s, a swimming spot was created in Ficibajr. In addition, a restaurant was built on the riverbank as well as stairs leading down to the river. Benches were installed there too. The peaceful atmosphere and greenery along the river make for a perfect place for people to relax and unwind, but also to get together with friends, which is something people have always done
here. The people of Brčko will be happy to tell you how they used love going for “bajr” (kegs, i.e. barrels that were used as swimming pools), i.e. they would jump out of boats and dinghies, and catch fish.
ACTIVITIES IN FICIBAJR Ficibajr often hosts various tournaments, competitions, and events such as the Brčko Summer and the Sava Flower, which have always attracted a large number of visitors. Kayaking and canoeing enthusiasts will not be denied the opportunity to enjoy the River Sava because there is a local kayaking/canoeing club at the picnic ground. During the summer, hundreds of fans of this unique sport are attracted to the traditional Sava regatta. Futsal, basketball and beach volleyball tournaments as well as motor races are organised at Ficibajr quite often. However, people do not come to Ficibajr only for recreation. The people of Brčko also love to go there for walks in the fresh air, drink coffee and get together with friends.
THEATRE FESTIVAL IN BRČKO In November each year, Brčko is all about “the stage floor that means the world” to a lot of people. For nearly four decades, November has been the time of year when theatre groups from countries where South Slavic languages are spoken gather for the Brčko Theatre Festival. When the front curtain opens, it means that the people of Brčko will be able enjoy plays, exhibitions, promotions, and a children’s programme throughout the week that follows. The 38th edition of the festival will be held this year.

NJENA ZEMLJA PLEMENITU RUDU RAĐA. NJENE VODE LJEKOVITE SU. SREBRENE! ŠUME BOGATE I PLODNE, A VAZDUH KRIJEPI.

On the Foundations of the
Bosnia Argentum Province
ORE DEPOSITS FOUND IN ITS SOIL ARE PRECIOUS. ITS WATERS ARE HEALING. SILVER! ITS FORESTS ARE RICH AND FERTILE, AND THE AIR THERE IS REFRESHING. SREBRENICA MEANS BOTH LOVE AND SORROW FOR US, AND ITS WONDERFUL NEIGHBOURHOODS DESERVE TO BE VISITED MORE FREQUENTLY. Written by: Semra Hodžić
ROMAN MUNICIPIUM Bank in ancient times, the priceless value of its mines was recognised by the ancient Romans. Today, archaeological sites such as the “Roman Municipium Museum” located in Skelani near Srebrenica, where archaeologists discovered a full room of a Roman administrative building—a basilica from the 4th century BC, reflect what their life was like back then. Travellers from all over the world would often come to Srebrenica because of the mines and leave traces of different cultures there. The earliest (known) written reference to Srebrenica dates from 1352, when the reign of Bosnian Ban Stephen II was coming to an end. Throughout history, it was most commonly referred to as Domavija and Argentarija. By the end of the 14th century, it became the most important mining centre and the most 96
important urban settlement of the Bosnian Banovina.
THE ARRIVAL OF THE FRANCISCANS When the Franciscans came to Bosnia at the end of the 13th century, they settled in Srebrenica. That is where they built their first monastery and church after which the country was later named Bosnia Argentum. They preached throughout the Balkans and the region from the province’s first main seat. The Srebrenica Monastery, where future friars were

raised and trained, was regarded as a well-respected and widely known religious order. In 1394, the Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas was constructed in the coastal style Srebrenica. It was a co-cathedral at the time of the diocese.
GUBER WATERS WITH A POWER TO HEAL The most prized possession Srebrenica has had since the beginning of time are the red waters of Guber. The “Red River” with 48 mineral water springs flows downhill to the town of Srebrenica, carrying with it waters that have a power to treat anaemia and heal the eye, skin and sinuses. The first mention of Srebrenica’s healing waters dates back to the second half of the 17th century, when Turkish travel writer Evliya Çelebi wrote that there is a silver mine with a small, magical spring of
water in the area. Later on, people named it srebrena voda (silver water). The first doctor who drew attention to its healing properties was Doctor Hans Duller at the beginning of the 19th century and from then on, the re-telling of the story of the magical properties of Srebrenica’s water has not ceased to this day. Guber became widely known, and the Guber Spa was extremely popular. A beautiful promenade leads to Guber featuring a children’s park, exercise equipment, a summer garden, and picnic tables and benches. While we are waiting for renovation works to start on the health resort, various treatments are available at the Srebrenica Health Centre including a free Guber water treatment.
LAKE PERUĆAC There is a very attractive lake called Perućac not far from Srebrenica. It is a place, they say, where the River Drina rests its soul. You will not be able to remain indifferent to its beauty, and if you want to truly enjoy it, you can, because the lake is suitable for swimming as well as fishing. If you decide to spend your holiday in Srebrenica, there is a large number of suites on the lake that you can rent, and there is also a camp for young people. The most popular beach is Oštrika Beach featuring a restaurant, shower facilities, inter-
net, cottages, and rafts. From the beach you can take a boat tour of the Drina Canyon all the way to the towns of Žepa and Višegrad. You can also visit Lake Perućac during some of the traditional events held here, which have recently gained popularity such as the Pančić Regatta, as well as the Srebrenica Days event.
SURREAL VANTAGE POINTS Srebrenica is one of those towns that can boast a great number of vantage points. The most popular one sits in the town centre, above the Lovac Motel, where Srebrenica’s most popular postcard pictures are taken. The Srebrenica Medieval Fortress and the nearby artillery fortifications also offer one of the most stunning views of the city. The Ottoman artillery fortification is a protected national monument of B&H. There are other lookout points in the vicinity of Srebrenica. The medieval town called Klotijevac, erected in a largely inaccessible area in the settlement of Klotijevac on the Perućac lakeside, affords visitors the most impressive views. This year, trails have been mapped and marked towards Klotijevac, and tourist signposts have been set up. Klotijevac It belongs to the protected area of the Drina National Park featuring marked hiking trails with a myriad
THE SREBRENICA MEMORIAL IN POTOČARI Upon arrival in Srebrenica, you need to visit the Srebrenica Memorial in Potočari. It is a place of remembrance for the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide. It is a place dedicated to the preservation of the history of the Srebrenica genocide. Exhibitions are frequently held there. You can visit the Library with 11 thousand titles, the former Battery Factory, and the Memorial Hall—the renovated site of the former UN Dutch Battalion headquarters. of gorgeous vantage points overlooking the Drina River Canyon. Near Klotijevac sits a medieval necropolis and the Đurđevac Fortress dating back to the Medieval Period.
PLACES OF WORSHIP In Srebrenica’s čaršija, you will be drawn to the lovely Čaršijska Mosque. When you head towards Guber, swing by the Đozić Mosque, whose harem is protected as a national monument of B&H. Among the town’s places of worship, the 19th-century monastery stands out on the site of the former Sase Monastery which was constructed for workers in the nearby mines.

AIDA REDŽEPAGIĆ
Dokumentarna fotografija
I svakako, tim foto98
rijin Dvor i mnoge druge.
BOSNA I HERCEGOVINA / BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA USPJEŠNE PRIČE / SUCCESS STORIES
AIDA REDŽEPAGIĆ
Documentary Photography
is Her Greatest Passion
SOME OF THE BIGGEST BOSNIAN AND HERZEGOVINIAN CELEBRITIES SUCH AS DINO MERLIN, EDIN DŽEKO AND OTHERS HAVE STOOD IN FRONT OF HER CAMERA LENS. AIDA REDŽEPAGIĆ IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED BOSNIAN AND HERZEGOVINIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS. HER PHOTOS DEDICATED TO THE ARCHITECTURAL WORK OF KAREL PAŘÍK IN SARAJEVO WERE EXHIBITED IN THE HEART OF PRAGUE IN JUNE THIS YEAR. Written by: Semra Hodžić
SHE HAD A SHY START AT PHOTOGRAPHY Thanks to her mum’s encouragement, she started to love drawing when she was still a little girl. After receiving a degree in the English Language and Literature, she discovered that she only ever truly loved photography. That is why she decided to immerse herself in it completely. She quit her job and, believing in her own talent she decided to pursue freelance photography. She has never regretted it. She inherited her talent for art from her mum, and she got her business skills from her dad: being disciplined in running her business and making sound 100
investment decisions. Aida believes that having these business skills is extremely important, but artists tend to disregard it quite often. She had a pretty shy start at photography, but the growing use of social media platforms allowed to reach a wider audience more easily than she would otherwise. And soon enough, she started getting her first clients and, from then on, everything went smoothly and naturally.
AN EXHIBITION IN PRAGUE Big names have stood in front of her camera lens. However, even though she is singled out as a fashion photographer or a portrait photographer, not many people know that
Aida is a documentary photographer too. Nearly all the awards she has won, as well as the exhibitions she has had, are related to documentary photography. In fact, she prefers doing documentary photography, because it is her greatest love. And, indeed, she is most proud of her documentary photos. As there is not much time for documentary photography, she makes an effort to design a documentary project she can dedicates herself to at least once a year. Aida’s talent in this field was also recognized in Prague—the photos she took of the architectural work of Karel Pařík in Sarajevo were in june exhibited in one of the busiest streets in Prague. The
exhibition was organised thanks to Martina Mlinarević, the B&H Ambassador to the Czech Republic, who herself stood in front of Aida’s lens. Pařík did most of his work and spent most of his career in Sarajevo designing some of its most important buildings, including the National Museum, the Academy of Fine Arts, the National Theatre, the Sarajevo Synagogue, the St. Joseph’s Church, the first design of the City Hall, the building of the Presidency, the building of today’s School of Law, Mary’s Palace and many others. We might soon see this exhibition in Sarajevo too. Aida is looking forward to it. She is hoping to be able to take pictures of other buildings she had not had the time to take for the Prague exhibition or to include other pictures in the Sarajevo exhibition that could not be exhibited in Prague due to limited space and a large number of pictures. She also wishes to exhibit photos she took while traveling through Andalusia and Iran.
WEDDING PHOTOS Magical and spontaneous—that is what we would call the wedding photos that Aida takes for her clients. While she truly enjoys it, she has photographed but a few wedding ceremonies in the last two years. She just does not have the time to do weddings due to other commitments. She always pays special attention to wedding photos. By sharing these intimate moments with the newlyweds, she usually makes friends with them. It simply makes it more sincere and beautiful, she says.
TIPS FOR THE YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHERS Aida’s tip for those who are just starting out as photographers is to just be themselves! Today, people often care too much about what other people say, what kind of comments they post on social media platforms, etc. Aida believes that
FAVOURITE AWARDS At the very beginning of the Corona virus pandemic, among 2,600 appli cants from 18 countries, Aida placed 1st at the Rovinj Photodays Festival! In addition to the 1st place she won in the Balkan Photo Festival in the Body and City categories, that is one of her favourite awards. She has had other accomplishments as well. At the invitation of Qatar’s Ministry of Tourism, she has been to the Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition in Doha eleven times where she photographed Qatar-based fashion brands. you should never allow anything to hinder your creativity. You should let it out and not count the “likes”. Some of the best photos she has seen so far have nearly gone unnoticed on social media, while others that had been photoshopped and kitschy have received a loud digital applause, but it is no measure of quality. 101

NAJVEĆA DŽAMIJA U PRIBOJU Najveća i najljepša džamija u pribojskom kraju je Hasan-agina džamija u srcu Starog Priboja.

DAH STARIH VREMENA U kući Stevovića, stare ugledne trgovačke pribojske porodice, smješten je Zavičajni muzej u kojem se čuvaju, izučavaju i prezentiraju umjetničko-historijska djela i kulturna baština Priboja. Posjetioci mogu obići arheološko, etnografsko, umjetničko i historijsko odjeljenje, konzervatorsku radionicu i biblioteku stručne literature.

riboj is a regular stopping point for many travellers on their way Podgorica, Bar or Belgrade. It is mainly known for “Fabrika automobila Priboj”, a factory that manufactures widely popular trucks, buses and trailers, which has been operating for nearly 70 years, and “Poliester”, a company that manufactures plastic items and car parts.
A SPA WITH A POWER TO HEAL Only five kilometres from the town centre there sits Pribojska Banja, a spa renowned for the healing properties of thermal and mineral water springs. It is located on a plateau above the right bank of the River Lim at an altitude of 530 to 550 metres and surrounded by the Stari Vlah Mountain, which also makes it an air spa. In the centre of the spa there are several thermal and mineral water springs with a water temperature of about 37 degrees Celsius. Spa water is used as an auxiliary therapeutic agent, both for bathing and drinking, in all types of chronic joint and extraarticular rheumatism, peripheral nerve diseases, in all types of post-traumatic conditions, spinal diseases, peripheral circulation disorders, gynaecological diseases, skin diseases, digestive organ diseases, etc.
THE LARGEST MOSQUE IN PRIBOJ Situated in the heart of Priboj’s Old Town quarters, Hasan Agha Mosque is the largest and most beautiful mosque in the Priboj area. In 1758, when the county administrator Hasan Agha, the son of Mustafa, assumed the position of Priboj area administrator, he had a masjid built first, and soon enough he had the minarets of the mosque, which
was later named after him, built too. His hometown owes him a lot. In addition to the mosque, he had a maktab (a Muslim primary school) and some other buildings constructed there too. They were all converted into a waqf (a charitable endowment) on 7 July 1758. Hasan Agha was buried in the mosque’s courtyard (enclosed burial ground). The old tombstones in the mosque’s courtyard presumably belong to him and his descendants. 115

ST. NICHOLAS MONASTERY One of the most important episcopal centres in medieval Serbia, the St. Nicholas Monastery in Dabar, which is better known as Banja Monastery near the town of Priboj, was constructed in the 12th century. The earliest known reference to St. Nicholas Monastery dates from 1153—it was referred to as the “monastery in Banja, on the lower stretch of the Lim River, on the border of Raška and Bosnia”. It was also mentioned in 1530 in the works of Benedikt Kuripešić, a renowned Austrian travel writer of Slovenian origin. The monastery underwent a major renovation in 1574 when a biography was painted on the left wall of the narthex.
Fishing aficionados can catch perch, European catfish and lake trout in the Potpeć Lake. There is also a very attractive fishing village on the lake. Apart from fishermen, daytrip lovers are happy to come there to enjoy the scenery and grill food. The Belgrade-Bar railway runs near the lake.

čudesnih benefita mora na zdravlje 1. SAM POGLED NA MORE SMANJUJE STRES
2. ZRAK NA MORU LIJEČI Morski vazduh sadrži negativne jone i ozon koji podstiču duboko disanje i koji nas pune životnom energijom. Negativni ioni osnažuju imunitet, poboljšavaju koncentraciju, smanjuju nesanicu, depresiju, glavobolju i umor, povoljno djeluju na ljude sa astmom i alergijom.

SUMMER
Marvellous Health Benefits of the Seaside 1. GAZING OUT AT SEA RELIEVES STRESS
3. THALASSOTHERAPY— SEAWATER TREATMENT
The weariness that had piled up seems to disappear the moment you finally set your eyes on the sea. According to a scientific study conducted by American scientists, gazing out at the sea lowers our stress levels. Research has also shown that looking at the colour blue reduces anxiety and that we are much happier when we are near water.
Popular thalassotherapy—seawater treatment—originates from ancient Greece where it was used to help treat diseases such as eczema, arthritis, asthma, psoriasis and back pain. Hippocrates discovered that seawater accelerates wound healing, prevents infection, and reduces pain. Sea salt is considered somewhat miraculous. It is sold in pharmacies, and physicians even recommend it for the treatment and prevention of many diseases.
2. FRESH SEA AIR IS HEALING Fresh sea air is filled with negatively charged ions and ozone which accelerate our bodies’ ability to absorb oxygen and energise us. Negative ions strengthen our immune system, improve our ability to concentrate, reduce insomnia, depression, headache and fatigue, and have a beneficial effect on people with asthma and allergies.
4. VITAMIN D IS PRODUCED BY THE BODY IN RESPONSE TO SUN EXPOSURE In the ongoing coronavirus disease pandemic we have come to realise the significance of Vitamin D for our overall health and the essential
role it plays in our body. Sun tanning does not only make your skin darker, it also provides you with Vitamin D which helps stave off any number of diseases including multiple sclerosis and cancer. The best time of day to tan is in the morning or in the evening. Make sure you use sunscreen!
5. THE BEACH IS PERFECT FOR SPORT ACTIVITIES Swimming, diving, surfing, sea aerobics, beach volleyball are just some of the sport activities we can do at the seaside. They are good not only for shaping the body but also because of the need to stay physically active. Health and sports go hand in hand, so it is clear to you that you should not lie on the beach, but dive into the water and enjoy the sports activities you can do at the beach!
