PARENT SURVEY RESULTS TOTAL SURVEYED: 367

Parent reviews were resoundingly positive. In terms of areas to improve there were several key takeaways.

 Parents wanted more communication about upcoming activities, behavioral issues, and program enrollment.

 Parents wanted more community events and engagement at their individual site locations.

 Parents wanted to know more about how they could help support the Club.

I would recommend the Club to other families. I get good value out of what I pay for this service.

I feel my child is safe in the after school program. The Club is important to my family's stability & success.

I would like to see more of the following programs after school:

I and my partner (if any) are employed in the following fields...

You guys rock! Pueblo Vista B&G Club staff are always amazing :-)

An idea box for Clubs. They do lots of things, but my son wants to

We absolutely love the experience our kids get at the boys & girls

My 8 year old says: More STEM. My 11 year old would like less structure.

I would like to see the teens doing Arts and Community Service activities. A night event would be nice. Anything to keep them off their phones!

More homework supportsPower Hour during first hour Afterschool. Our daughter used to cry and got anxiety when she couldn’t finish homework at BGC due to the schedule she had to follow (her group was last for homework time). She has an IEP at school and really got behind. Homework should be a priority and first thing to get done before any activity.

More relaxing activities, like meditation, stretching, etc. Kids are tired after school, so reducing structured activities where they have to follow a lot of directions would make it a more relaxing, pleasant experience that is less tiring. Also, having more quiet time and being able to choose what activity they want to participate in, would be great.

Expand the Services! We know some families who are not able to take advantage of these services and would love to!

I don’t know why exactly, but my kids do not enjoy going to the Clubhouse. I think maybe if it was an after school program, there would be classmates and they

I deeply appreciate the staff at the NVLA Boys and Girls Club. Ms. Ivory cultivates an encouraging atmosphere in which students feel comfortable taking risks and solving problems. I would be at a loss without the Club’s afterschool care and feel so fortunate to have such a great place for my children to do things while I am working.

My son isn't the best at communicating about what he is doing at school/at B&G Club. I would appreciate some sort of communication about what the kids are doing in the program. It would be great if that came directly from whoever is watching him and who he is spending time with. I really don't know much about what he does in the program.

More chances to involve parents in building positive behaviors!

Have better communication with the parents and continue doing what makes this program awesome and going on with the program, to help out our

Having winter camps and spring camps AT the school site. The large, mixed age, Clubhouse environment is exclusionary for many children, including my own.

Act a little more funny with the kids. Make them feel that they are In a fun place, especially w/ the little ones. They need affection.

Some of the young staff need more skills with working with kids but your doing a great job!

Keep the parents informed regarding our children. Are they being bullied? Are they bullying a peer? Are they disrespecting staff? Parents are here to help, we want to be made aware of what is happening so we can help you and our kids.

I feel like more email communication would be nice. I would like to be looped in on extra enrichment opportunities, weekly schedules, maybe even a monthly wrap up of what the kids are doing etc.

More staff and the staff need to communicate things with management. My daughter was kicked and when brought up to the teenage staff, they did nothing and told her to go to a different location and “stay away” from the boy who kept hitting her or verbally bullying. I feel lucky that my daughter has told me these things and not suffered in silence.

This is my first year and am thankful to have a safe place where my child can learn and do homework.

Keep communicating and also have meetings with parents whose kids are not getting along to improve positive community/ development.

I feel like more email contact would be nice. I would like to be looped in on extra enrichment opportunities, weekly schedules, maybe even a monthly wrap up of what the kids are doing etc.

By hosting more events that include parents and letting the family know what the kids are doing! That would be great!

I really like the emails we are getting this year.

More things like the ice skating night would be a lot of fun because we thoroughly enjoyed that gift. Maybe a weekly email with a quick summary of projects/ activities that were done by the kids. The whole experience has been great for me as a Single mother.

First, forever grateful to BGC for being open and getting us through the pandemic. Thank you! With communication, we get inconsistent or confusing messages sometimes. Emails tend to go to either me or my husband, not both of us. When I’ve reached out and left a message via phone/email, there’s been slow or no response. Front desk or catching the director gets a better response but that's not always practical. We just want to be more informed so that we can be more present.

More consistent communication between parents and staff.

Parent engagement with the Club leaders. Even a ‘Hi, I am your kids leader’ would suffice. Since the glass doors went up, I have no idea who is watching or guiding my child. I appreciate everything they do, but definitely miss the community feeling.

More communication about what the kids are doing, and knowing what the daily schedule is. Also knowing what snacks are provided, and trying to ensure that snacks are healthy.

If the Club was offered at my home school, it would be easier for me to work. As of now, I have a very difficult time shuttling them around from one end of town to the other for just a couple of after school hours.

Earlier notifications about enrollment confirmation for both the after school program and the camps.

I wish my child could finish homework there but definitely not B&G Club responsibility! You guys are always there to help!

I'm so thankful to have affordable, quality after-school care at the school site. This allows both parents to work and support the family.

You have been a tremendous help- in addition to after school care- my child loves the Club. It is also a huge help to me that her homework is completed so that I actually have time to engage with her when we’re home. I could not do this without You! Thanks! The Club provides an immense value to our family as we can work while we know our child is in a safe and engaging environment. The monthly rate helps greatly our family budget. Thank you for being here!

We have no family in Napa so we would struggle to maintain careers without Boys and Girls Club.

When our son was in the program it helped us in many ways - We were able to work normal hours and not spend two arms and a leg on after school care. Our son felt happy and safe there.

My kids love the program. They love the staff too. We rely on the program as my husband and I are unable to pick them up after school. We also love the activities they do and the exposure to so many fun things they do.

It is very important because I don’t have a babysitter who I can trust. B &G is one of the only places where my kids feel secure.

My daughter loves it there and always looks forward to attending the program daily. She does her homework at the Club. She loves socializing with her peers and enjoys all the art activities.

Our kids could come home, but they would be parked in front of a TV as I can’t provide enriching activities while also working. I love when they come home with new artwork or excited about a science project or worn out from playing on the playground.

Club is important to me because the Club it accommodates with my schedule . If my girls were not able to attend boys and girls maybe I would have to go part time I don’t have someone to pick up my kids after school, That’s how bad it would impact me. Boys and Girls Club is a huge help for us. Thanks for everything you guys do to keep our children happy and help them grow.

This is SAFE place for my child and it gives us peace of mind knowing she is with people who care.

It is important to us as a family to have an afterschool place for our little one, due to work and he can also mingle with friends in a safey, trustful and fun environment. Thank you SOO much for existing!

The Club is a huge blessing for my family. I can work and I don’t have to worry about my child. I know he is safe and cared for.

The Club is a great community service and helps out parents like me who cant afford care after school. They have done so well with my 3 kids, everyone is so nice and great and my kids learn allot from them.

My daughter really loves and enjoys the Club. She loves her staff and always talks about the good experiences she’s having there. Thank you for all you do with the kids. We love it!

Without the Club we have no idea what we would do with our younger children. The staffs help with their overall wellbeing, homework, and social skills allows us to focus on the parenting.

Its important for me and my child, to my child on his socialization with others, homework, and fun activities. For me it's important because I have a secure place for my child after school. A place I know he loves.

Summary of Feedback

Generally it was felt by many that the Club needed to do a better job of communicating directly with parents. Parents wanted a better idea as to the schedule of activities, what youth were doing, and what events were upcoming. Parents also wanted to be more involved in promoting positive behaviors in the Club. Especially in cases where their intervention might help youth be more successful after school.

Website

The Club will create separate landing pages on BeGreatNV.org for every location. That landing page will include a brief introduction to the sites director and key staff. The Site will also include a live calendar of events that will help parents stay up to date with upcoming programs and activities. This will also contain basic information and processes as to contact information, enrollment and FAQs.

Newsletter

Every location will be responsible for generating a brief one page newsletter which will feature site specific highlights, programmatic highlights, a member of the month, and staff of the month. Additionally the Club will continue to produce its quarterly Impact Magazine. These will be shared by email directly to school populations.

Calls

The Club will set aside time at the end of every day for staff to call home with updates for parents. Note: this service will be provided on an as available basis. Each day at 6 PM each of our Clubs will make six phone calls. Three of those phone calls will be to parents/guardians of members that attended the Club that day to let them know something special or very positive their child did at the Club. The other three calls will be made to parents/guardians of members we have not seen for a while letting them know about upcoming activities and encouraging them to come back to the Club

Site Calendar

A weekly activity schedule will be posted in a visible location so that parents and kids know what is scheduled for the remainder of the week.

OPERATIONAL ASSESSMENT YOUR
OUR ACTION COMMUNICATIONS

ENRICHMENT

Summary of Feedback

Generally, parents were more than satisfied with the level of programming available to members after school. When given the option to choose areas of focus for the Club’s enrichment opportunities parent feed back was generally split among all five core areas of Academics, The Arts, STEM, Sports, and Healthy Behaviors.

Communication

As previously mentioned communication was a huge area of improvement. The Club’s efforts as mentioned in the last page will help to keep parents informed of the sites static approach to after school time and will share information on Enrichment opportunities relevant to their child's needs and interest.

Elevated Enrichment

The Club will assess its current slate of enrichment opportunities to identify and facilitate organization wide best practices. The Club will also invest more creatively in how we deliver deep and more intentional enrichment opportunities.

Standardization

In an effort to be more efficient the Club will revisit standard approaches to how our programs are orchestrated. The Club day will be allotted in three main chunks including... Kids Choice (Unstructured time afterschool to play and get a healthy snack) Power Hour (1 hour of academic support, with additional academic enrichment opportunities for those who have completed their homework) Enrichment (1-2 hours of structured enrichment activities consistent with the Club’s five core areas of Academics, The Arts, STEM, Sports, and Healthy Behaviors.
