My suitcase has been packed and unpacked already sixteen times this year. From fashion shows to festivals—it’s been a busy year. The highlight came last week. I traveled to Mexico City for Liberatum’s four days of art and culture, where Hillary Swank and Deepak Chopra gave inspired talks on optimism and the ‘meaning of life’ at this time when women around the globe are joining hands in the hashtag “Me Too” movement.

On the fashion front, the shows are nearly finished—kaput. In an internet universe where everyone sees the collections long before they are available, the shows, have, unfortunately, grown irrelevant. Sadly, long gone is Alexander McQueen and the fairy tale; now its cupcakes and fluffy carpets in a design center that’s about to open.
Faith Connection Spring/Summer 2018
Luckily for England, the pencil slim Duchess of Cambridge can wear Emilia Wickstead, and many hotels are requesting Emilia to design clothes for them. The upgraded uniform is here, where front-of-house is everything—it’s all about a three-second image on Instagram and branding in those moments. I love comfortable fashion, and, as the late Azzedine Alia once told me, “Everyone has a body shape that does not change, and they should stick to what suits them best.” So I do. I like the same dress with a twist, a new jacket from Gucci or long gloves from PRADA. I suggest wearing a Norma Kamali swimsuit with a Gucci bum bag and you have style. As I travel from Mexico to Indonesia, I need clothes that look good straight from the suitcase. Remember its all about hair, makeup, and the proper styling. Get that right, and you can enter the room with confidence.
Ralph & Russo Spring/Summer 2018
From Charlotte Tilbury to Trinny London, there’s no excuse to not look good at all times. It’s all about the contouring of the body and face, so nip in the waist and put on the lippy and wear the Zara frock with confidence, or, if you can, take out a mortgage and go for the big bang designer dress that suits you.

Plan B? I come from a long line of doctors, so growing up I also wanted to be a surgeon. DNA change? I must say, I’m happy with my self. My wellness principles have certainly changed my life for the better in this regard. I’m all about being grateful for my many blessings and making daily improvements to my outlook and subsequent behavior. Role models? If I had to choose one, I’d say my great grandmother on my dad’s side, Florence Ethel Linda Levy. She was born into great privilege but was disowned by her family when they didn’t approve of her choice of a marriage partner. She was a strong workaholic that achieved so much for a woman in those times. She adored her family and managed to put both her sons through medical school. We were also born on the same day 100 years apart! Recurring dream? As soon as I realize that I’m dreaming and become lucid, I fly to the spectacular luminescent outer edges of space until I feel that I may have gone too far and have to come back. I probably have this dream at least once a week.

Your passion? Two things. I’ve had an obsession with guitars since I was a baby and managed to manifest an abundance of them. More recently, I’ve become engrossed in learning about consciousness, and that interest has led to the creation of my wellness company. Both disciplines are so incredibly diverse, yet feed into each other.

I also support the Grosche & Weissen safe water project. This initiative creates at least five days of safe drinking water for people in need in developing countries around the world. Singer and actress Jeanine Marie Mason,, who began ballet and flamenco dance training at three, became the youngest winner of the Fox television competition, So You Think You Can Dance. Now 27, the Miamiborn Cuban American beauty has also appeared in numerous TV series such as ABC Family’s Bunheads, NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI, and Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush. Currently, Jeanine, who graduated cum laude from UCLA, has a recurring role as Dr. Sam Bello on ABC’s popular medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. She answers our GENLUX Two-Word Questionnaire. Your background? Cuban-American. You’re wearing? A hotel robe and comfy knit socks. Personal style? Lately, cotton dresses that are ever so slightly figure-hugging with chunky boots and a rad jacket. I like to be comfy, but I always want to feel sexy. Describe yourself: Perseverant, intelligent, impassioned, hardworking, loving. Favorite charity? Recently I was introduced to Camp Kesem by my brother. It’s an organization that provides a summer camp experience for kids who have lost a loved one to cancer. I love that it gives them a space to process their emotions amongst each other and just be kids. A space to feel seen and allowed to be messy. It touched my heart. I’m passionate about supporting women—particularly in entertainment—and am a member of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. Representation is incredibly important to me, and I’m committed to making sure I take every opportunity not to perpetuate negative stereotypes

or behavioral patterns for women that don’t serve us and our ascent. It’s also important to me to support women behind the camera, and I’m so excited to be meeting with Latinas in my community to brainstorm ways in which we can champion each other. The group is called Latina’s Who Lunch and we #FiercelyLatina all our interactions. As one should. Favorite getaway? Probably the Florida Keys … or any little movie theatre anywhere … or ballet class but I’ll most likely skip center floor. Security blanket? My Dad. Happiest moment? Oh damn. Let’s say when my younger sister decided to join me in dance classes and quit horseback riding. I’m selfish. Your heroes? My grandparents, they are that beautiful immigrant story. #MeToo movement? I’m committed to taking care of myself and the people I’m working with. I’m stepping into my first lead role of a TV series right now, and I’m so grateful for the confidence all this bravery and awareness has translated into for me. DNA change? Maybe to be a little bit better at relaxing…maybe. Life analysis? It all comes out in the wash. Past fear? Being enough. It’s a process always, but I am more than enough. Latest awareness? More than anything, this job on Grey’s Anatomy has given me an immense amount of gratitude for our medical professionals and proven, definitively, that I could not hack it in real life. I’ll stick to pretending. TE

have to show you something,” Tyler Ellis, says, taking out her phone. She zooms in on a photo of one of her beautiful handbags, then swipes to the next shot. To my surprise, that same bag now has a slice taken out of it. W h a t ? “My grandmother had this cake made—a perfect replica,” she says, laughing, “My mom thought it was real too, and then we ate it.” Tyler plops her latest creation down on the table at Bedford & Burns. “This one is called Grace,” she says, “I’ve recently decided to go the bespoke and bridal route, so my clients can choose their specific fabric, color, and monogram—they become a part of the handbag design experience.” Today, Tyler, straight from an Oxygen Facial at the Peninsula hotel, has very little makeup on, and her skin is glowing. She’s casually cool in a dusty-rose cashmere sweater by Skull, and a pair of black rag & bone ripped jeans. Around her neck is her grandmother’s gold charm bracelet that Tyler cleverly repurposed into a necklace and she’s sporting the sweetest pair of Giuseppe Zanotti riveted ankle boots that, naturally, she picked up in Paris. “I rarely wear heels,” Tyler says, “I have scoliosis, so I can’t. The one pair of heels I can wear are the YSL platforms.” Unlike other designers, Tyler’s logo is conspicuously absent from the outside of her bags. Inside, though, like Louboutin’s red soles, Tyler Ellis bags have their trademark Thayer blue lining— named after the first street she grew up on in Los Angeles. “I want the design of the bags to speak for themselves,” she says. Sprinkled about on the hardware of her bags are pine cones. “They’re my symbol,” Tyler informs me, “I was inspired by the giant pine cone at the Vatican’s Pina Court. It means the highest form of spiritual awakening and perfection. They’re on my zipper pulls and the little feet of my bags—for a dash of positivity and power.” It seems to be working. Like that cake, the positive and powerful A-list celebs are eating up Tyler Ellis handbags. Take a leisurely scroll through Tyler’s Instagram (@imtylerellis), and witness for yourself. There’s Oprah, Gigi, Salma, Reese, Hailee, Demi, Tracee, Emily (Blunt and Ratajkowski), Molly, Mandy, and Miranda—all carrying her clutches on the red carpet. The nearly impossible life of Tyler Alexandra Gallagher Ellis began when her parents, design icon, Perry Ellis, a gay man, and his best friend, Barbara Gallagher, a successful television writer and producer, began a conversation about, well, producing a child together through artificial insemination. Keep in mind, it was 1982, and Elizabeth Comeau, the first baby conceived in the United States via in-vitro fertilization, had been born the previous year. So, miraculously, on November 10, 1985, Tyler was born at CedarsSinai hospital in Los Angeles. Sadly, only 18 months after her
Tyler used this Perry Ellis handwritten envelope to create her Tyler Ellis logo, as seen on the brand’s trademark Thayer Blue interior color.
birth, Perry Ellis passed away from AIDS-related complications— something that was kept quiet at the time. The young Ellis became heir to the Perry Ellis licensing empire. “The company was left to me,” she says. “We sold it in 1999. Well, my mom and the board of trustees sold it. It was a great move.” Then only 13, her silver spoon turned gold. Tyler’s life began far from New York’s Seventh Avenue in Westwood and claims she still doesn’t have many friends in the fashion world. She attended Brentwood, a chichi K-12 school, and then Boston University. An internship with Michael Kors ignited her interest in accessories and design. Kors also served some good advice: “He told me to surround myself with the best people possible.” And that she has. Tyler’s latest find is the Italian father and son duo who make her handbags. “They are true artisans,” she says. “I’ll send them a sketch on a notebook or a napkin, and they’ll send back a sample that looks like a real bag. They love what they do and can do it all.” Rarely, but sometimes, things get lost in translation. On one occasion, Tyler sent drawings in centimeters; they mistakenly built the bag in inches. The bag is crafted to the exact proportion and detail, it’s just ginormous (see opposite page). “I was in Mexico at the time, and my mom called and said your suitcase arrived. I said, ‘suitcase?’ The wardrobe stylists and my yoga teacher love it.” Aside from her felicitous life as a successful handbag designer, Tyler enjoys golfing and exploring other cultures—often on a whim. Last year, for example, Tyler and Ben took three trips to her favorite place, Tokyo, and once for a weekend getaway. This June, the couple celebrates their fourth wedding anniversary. Tyler, a Scorpio who confesses to being very stubborn, says communication is the key to a good marriage. “I was an only child and so was he, so we’re both very independent. Neither of us is very nurturing, and we don’t need to be babied. We have masculine energy around the home. We hold hands, just no babying.” No babying, that is, until she shares their pet names. “Okay, I call him Muffin, and he calls me Bubba.” Recently, Tyler became an executive board member of Learning Lab Ventures. “They’re doing such incredible work,” she shares, “The campus is all about education and it has such a happy spirit to it. They’re giving these kids the tools they need to go to college and succeed. Recently, they took 150 kids and their families to the King’s hockey game. It’s an awesome organization.” The last question for Tyler is about her fantasy dinner for four. W ho’s there and where is it? “My father, my mother, and my husband,” Tyler says, “We’re on a yacht on the Amalfi Coast. We’d have whole fresh branzino for four, Brussel sprouts, okra, and burgundy wine, and we’d just chat and sail away.” G

Northern Cal-girl April Bowlby is as witty and whacky—in a good way— as they come. She’s best known for her ditzy roles as Kandi on the CBS comedy series Two and a Half Men, and Stacy Barrett on Drop Dead Diva. You may have seen her as Barney Stinson’s obsessive ex-girlfriend, Meg, in How I Met Your Mother or on CSI, Psych, and CSI: NY. Her film creds include All Roads Lead Home, The Slammin’ Salmon, and From Prada to Nada. We toss the sexy, blonde beauty our Genlux Two-Word Questionnaire and here’s what she threw back.

WONDER WOMAN
If compassion counts as a superhero power, Olivia Jordan’s earned her cape. As Miss USA, she pushed back against Trump’s vitriol about Mexicans. She lobbied in Washington to pass the HOPE act on behalf of Alzheimer patients. She’s protecting sexually exploited children through her work for Children of the Night, and when it comes to the #MeToo movement, step aside—she’s just getting started. iss Oklahoma Olivia Jordan and Donald Trump’s paths were on a collision course. Olivia was only one week away from traveling to Trump’s Miss USA pageant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, just as Trump announced his run for the White House via his infamous ‘Mexicans send their rapists’ rant. The controversy that swirled over Trump’s vitriol was enough for NBC to pull the plug on airing the pageant, but even with that, the show went on. “His speech was so disempowering and toxic,” Olivia says.“I seriously questioned whether to continue to the Miss USA pageant, but more important, I wanted to make it very clear I wasn’t aligned with the things he said.” Olivia’s opportunity to rebut Trump’s comments came sooner than expected.

During the question and answer portion, Judge Brook Lee set the table: “The Confederate flag, excessive force by police, and same-sex marriage are all recent, hot-button issues in our country. What do you think will be the next thing that we need to tackle on a national level?” Olivia dove in. “I think we still need to talk about race relations in this country. We have not solved this issue. We are still having problems, and we keep hearing about new issues that are coming up. We really need to work on being an accepting society and being a society where every single person, no matter your race, no matter your gender, is given the same rights and privileges and opportunities.” Bam! The pageant’s ‘audience question’ also empowered Olivia’s equality agenda: Which American woman would you like to see on the $20 bill and why?” Miss Oklahoma responded, “Well, I wish that Oprah was an eligible candidate...I think Harriet Tubman would be a beautiful example of where we have been, and how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go.” Olivia took the crown, which also meant heading to the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas; another Donald Trump property. For Olivia, the silver lining to Trump’s controversial message was that it steered him from the pageants. “Fortunately, he didn’t come to the Miss USA or the Miss Universe pageant that year, so I didn’t have any connection with Donald Trump, and I’m very grateful that I never met him.” Her newfound crown and sash had a way of opening doors and Olivia took full advantage. Along with her father, she traveled to Washington, D.C., to lobby on behalf of the HOPE Act, a plan to help Alzheimer’s patients and their families. “We took ten meetings in one day,” Olivia says. “One highlight of those meetings was meeting U.S. Senator Susan Collins. We connected and she encouraged me by saying we needed more women like me who are empowered to use our voice. The good news is we were part of moving the needle and the passing of the HOPE Act.” Another of Olivia’s pet charities is Children of the Night, a nonprofit organization established in 1979. The charity provides intervention in the lives of sexually exploited children who are vulnerable to or involved in prostitution and pornography. “It’s truly inspiring to talk to young women who had been victims of sex-trafficking but who are now going on to pursue higher education paths of journalism and law.” Olivia says, “Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for these women is to inspire them towards hope in their future—it makes all the difference.”
Olivia shares her faves on the Genlux video series ‘My Favorite Things’ Click here!
Olivia Jordan Thomas was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where, at only 13, she hit her height of 5’ 11”. “I was awkwardly tall and skinny and very introverted and insecure,” Olivia shares. “Even in high school, where some of the boys were getting taller, I was still on the cheering squad where all my friends were like five feet tall. I always felt so uncomfortable. You can see me fighting that battle in all of my pictures where I’m trying to make myself small.” At 14, Olivia visited her first model agency. “I used modeling to help my confidence, but as you know, it’s not that,” she says. “Confidence is something you have to build on your own—otherwise, you’re susceptible to all of the negativity. For example, my agents wanted me to lose weight off my hips, so I said okay I’ll lose weight. The problem was I too skinny already but relied on their opinion. I hit a point where I had an eating disorder, so my parents had me take a step back from modeling and get therapy to get healthy. They encouraged me to put more emphasis on school, so I went to Boston University.” After graduating from BU, Olivia reentered modeling, and last month, Olivia checked a milestone goal off her bucket list. “It was always a dream of mine to be in Sports Illustrated,” Olivia admits, “So when they conducted an online model search, I submitted a selfie video.” Sports Illustrated reportedly received over 5000 submissions. Of those, they invited only 35 to a casting in New York, where only six made the final cut. The newly released issue includes some shots of bikini-clad Olivia on a beach in Belize. Olivia, who is on the roster of the prestigious Elite LA model agency, recently completed the Upright Citizens Brigade improv course and is focused on her passion—acting. “It’s something that challenges and allows me to heal from past trauma and to grow,” says Olivia, who now lives in Los Angeles. “I love doing comedy and creating laughter. It helps me break down the need to be perfect.” Speaking on the #MeToo movement, Olivia grows emotional. “My own #MeToo story started as a kid through bad experiences Rosie Assoulin from very, very young,” Olivia shares, holding back tears. “As dress, $1795, soon as the #MeToo movement came out, my first social Saks Fifthmedia Avenue, engagement was that I wouldn’t know which story to tell. Even Beverly Hills, today a whole new list of perpetrators in the modeling310-275-4211 industry came out. I called my agents to urge them to please pay Anne attention Sisteron to the list and to let their models know. SERIOUSLY, I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT... BY LAURA DUNN FASHION DIRECTOR
SOME HOT CUFF
While in Aspen recently, I popped into the Buccellati store with a friend and witnessed some of the most jaw-dropping jewelry ever to grace my eyes. Now at this point, I think you all know I’ve seen some incredibly serious jewels, but this Buccellati cuff catches your eye—and won’t let go. The Buccellati opera cuff in gold with garland- and Lillyshaped rosettes set with brilliant-cut diamonds could very well be the most beautiful bracelet that I have ever tried on. I do so hope it will be residing on my wrist in the very near future. Buccellati, Two Rodeo, Beverly Hills, 310-276-7022
The Cape of Things to Come One of my favorite pieces is this stunning white Roland Mouret cape is crafted from smooth white satin and has grosgrain ties that fasten at your décolletage, while the train floats gracefully behind. HEAVY METAL
When I caught a glimpse of this Alexander McQueen deconstructed metallic leather jacket featuring six different types of floral embroidery inspired by the white gardens of Kent, I about fainted. The slash detail on the waist, silver plated metal hardware, and waist belt makes this jacket just about one of the most sought-after and wearable fashion statements of the season! I am certainly hoping you will be seeing me sporting this divine creation soon. Alexander McQueen jacket, $14,500, 457 N Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, 323-782-4983
To be completely honest, when my eyes first spied this sneaker, I thought to myself that it looked ridiculous. But, upon reexamination, I became intrigued. Upon third look I was totally hooked and I am now buying several pairs! My only agony will be which color combinations will make it into my closet? The statement look of the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer fashion show was this futuristic sneaker which balances a “springy” wave shaped sole and an oversized tongue, with an extremely low-cut around the ankle to accentuate our gorgeous delicate ankles. Louis Vuitton, Beverly Hills specialist Anthony David can answer any and all questions and will happily set you up with a pair of these magical sneakers! David Rockefeller (1915-2017) and his wife of more than fifty years, Peggy McGrath Rockefeller (1915-1996), shared a passion for great art and decorative objects. The highly anticipated auction will showcase the couple’s vast and notable collection of Impressionist paintings to Asian ceramics. Christie’s CEO, Guillaume Cerutti, said, “We are honoured to have been entrusted with this legendary collection. The Rockefeller family name is indelibly linked with the arts, culture, business and philanthropy around the world — and it is a fitting tribute that the auctions will be held at Christie’s New York in the heart of Rockefeller Center. David and Peggy Rockefeller were wellknown not only for their monumental art collection, but also for their commitment to philanthropy which has benefited so many people around the world.” Organizations that will benefit from the proceeds of the sale include: American Farmland Trust, Americas Society/Council of the Americas, Council on Foreign Relations, The David Rockefeller Fund, Harvard University, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Rockefeller University, The Stone Barns Restoration Corporation – Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture. —Cat Williams “Eventually all these objects which have brought so much pleasure to Peggy and me will go out into the world and will again be available to other caretakers who, hopefully, will derive the same satisfaction and joy from them as we have.” —David Rockefeller

GENLUXSHOP Nina B’s How to Minimize Aging Signs Skin care companies put considerable effort into research—especially when it comes to addressing signs of aging. Skincare is not the magical fountain of youth, but consistent use will give results you’ll love, leaving friends wondering how you turned into Benjamin Button. Now that Spring is here let me share my favorite skincare staples to help you achieve more glowing, youthful skin. A guava is rich in Vitamin C. Each has over 350mg—more than four times that of a large orange.
Protect you skin from the damaging rays of the sun
Vitamin C
Just like your mom knew, Vitamin C is key to good health. The wonder Vitamin also brightens and helps your skin look younger almost immediately after application. Skin discoloration, which is often caused by solar radiation, is one of the principal signs of aging and Vitamin C helps even out skin color. What’s more, the Vitamin shallows expression lines and wrinkles by assisting in the synthesis of collagen. Collagen is key to looking young. We want plenty of it in our skin. Nina B recommends Sircuit Skin Cosmeceuticals ‘Secret Weapon,’ $85, sircuitskin.com
Sun Protection
Sun protection is your youthful skin’s best friend because sun exposure causes up to 90% of the visible signs of aging skin, including wrinkles, age spots, and visible capillaries. Choose sun protection that’s pure mineral—it will reflect sun’s rays opposed to absorbing them as chemical sun protection does. And wear sun protection everyday—even if it’s cloudy! Nina B recommends Avène High Protection Complexion Correcting Shield SPF 50, $36, net-a-porter.com
Enzyme Peeling
Dead skin cells mean deeper grooves in our skin. Exfoliate the skin and wrinkles have less depth and therefore are less noticeable. Enzyme peeling—thanks to fruit, vegetable or herbal enzymes—exfoliates and dissolves dead skin cells. It’s intended for all skin types, but it’s used most often by people with sensitive skin, prone to irritation or acne. Excess dead skin cells also make our skin look grayish. So Enzyme Peeling helps restore a youthful glow. Nina B recommends Eminence Organic Skin Care Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel, $46, dermstore.com.
Retinol
Retinol stimulates the production of skin proteins, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Elastin is responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin (not surprising considering the name), while hyaluronic acid, which decreases with age, is responsible for proper hydration of cells. The effect of retinol is, therefore, to rejuvenate your skin by making it firmer, smoother, more hydrated and elastic. Retinol works slowly so be diligent with it. Nina B recommends iS Clinical ‘Pro-Heal Serum Advance+, $148, dermstore.com
These are my favorites. Let me know how your rejuvenation goes. And if you have questions, don’t hesitate to direct message me on Instagram: @NinaBSkin

GENLUX Makeup artist ALEXIS SWAIN reveals how to get Olivia Jordan’s gorgeous cover look!
BROW: To thicken and define
To achieve Olivia’s 60s springtime ‘Modern Mod’ look, I first prepped her skin with Sircuit Cosmecueticals Day Care+ followed by
her eyebrows I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow powder in taupe and Brow Wiz in Blonde.
Hourglass Vanish Foundation.
EYES: I used the Dior Magnify Pallet. I first prepped the lid with MAC Painterly, then brushed the shimmery pink shade over entire lid. I used the purple color to shade both top and bottom lashlines, then wet the brush to both intensify the pigment and more precisely draw in that 60s Mod socket line just above the lid crease. I used Tarte’s Tartiest Clay Paint Liner for the cat eye flick, two strips of Ardell’s Whispy Strip Lashes for added emphasis and then layered top and bottom lashes with Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Lashes Mascara. I then lined
her bottom inner lash line with Charlotte Tillbury Rock ‘n’ Kohl Liner in Beige to make the eyes appear bigger and used Hourglass Champagne Flash Vanish Highlighting stick to highlight inner eye and brow bone (along with bridge of her nose and Cupid’s bow).
CHEEKS: For the cheeks I blended RMS Lip2cheek in Demure on the apples of Olivia’s cheeks to create a healthy springtime flush.
LIPS: I finished off the look by lining
her lips in Makeup Forever Aqua Lip in 1c and lipstick in Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo Pale Pink Nude with a bit of CHANEL Glossimer 73 Gloss over the top.

I guarantee you won’t wear them once. Be sure to pack white for the Ultraviolet White Party. Also, bring LED accessories like glowing colors and body paint. Saturday’s attire is “tribal illumination,” the idea is to channel one’s tribal roots inspired by the Sun gods and goddesses. Oh, and one important detail: Don’t forget mosquito repellent! The food is exceptional! Every morning, two joyful women come to your door, prepare your breakfast and tidy up. The fridge is full of delicious Mexican delicacies, fruits, juices and more. The fully-stocked bar has Mexican liquor including T-E-Q-U-I-L-A. (While it was the beverage of choice during the trip, by the end of the festival, I couldn’t bear hearing the name). There are four restaurants open all year long. The food variety is quite extensive; ranging from delicious Asian fusion served at Cocodrilo Azul, to flavorful Moroccan dishes at La Coscolina. Enjoy Italian at Punto Como, and Mediterranean-Mexican fusion fare at Playa Rosa Beach Club. Dinner is complimentary at each of the Ondalinda events, and you’ll have the chance to meet other guests while waiting in the taco line.
