Develop and implement a set of techniques or analytics applications to transform raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software. Apply data mining, data modeling, natural language processing, and machine learning to extract and analyze information from large structured and unstructured datasets. Class Objective Certification

Training program designed to give participants the foundations of data analytics for an entry level position.

Delivery Method

Virtual Coursera training course including a weekly virtual peer learning session that includes job preparation, resume and interview workshops, and other work readiness skills (job readiness classes start every 4 weeks and occur on Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Also included are extra in-person lab activities and classes that are supplemental to the Coursera content.

Duration

12-18 weeks, minimum of 16-20 hours per week ideally

Prerequisites & Assessments

Have an interest and familiarity with Excel, Google Sheets, problem solving, data collection, data ethics, presentation. Pass Northstars assessments: Computer Basics with an 85% or higher, Internet Basics with an 85% or higher, and Windows 10 with a 75% or higher. Participants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, pass basic computer, reading and math assessments, and develop a service plan with a career coach. Has internet access and a computer or laptop (if not, this will be addressed during enrollment)

Curriculum

This program contains 8 modules, including topics of key analytical skills and tools, effective questioning techniques, data-driven decision-making, spreadsheets, data types and forms, privacy and ethics, data organizations and formatting, Structured Query Language (SQL), using calculations and formulas in your data analysis, data visualization, R programming, and the option of completing a data analytics case study.
