Editor's Note Welcome to the latest edition of Fore Girls. This month we are profiling the current women’s world number one Inbee Park who has won 3 of the 4 majors this year, a historic year for this young lady. Fore Girls were very pleased to receive our first “Press & Media” invitation as a recognised golf publication to the inaugural “Reignwood LPGA Classic” held in Beijing. Read more about this milestone event for China’s LPGA on page 60. We also had the opportunity to visit the largest golf club in the world, Mission Hills in Dongguan and had an exclusive interview with Vice Chairman Mr Tenniel Chu to gain his insight into the world of golf. Still in its infancy, we have had a fantastic response to the magazine thus far. It looks like you are embracing the magazine with both hands. I hope we can continue to give the ladies out there the voice you so deserve. Thanks once again for your support without which this magazine would not be possible. All twelve courses are incredibly well maintained and are a pleasure to play on. The views as you walk through the courses are stunning and if you happen to be relaxing in your hotel suite, depending on its location you can sit by with a cup of coffee and watch golfers try their best to play like the professionals. The clubhouse at Dongguan is BIG! This is the only way to describe it or indeed the whole resort, everything is just BIG! When Mission Hills said they wanted to be the biggest, they were not joking. The result is a series of varied courses in length and difficulty level with scenic views of the sea and natural environment, even though seven artificial lakes and 800 acres of man-made mulch on lava rocks were added to give the courses their unique look and feel. That said, efforts were made to preserve and conserve the environment as much as possible. The longest course, the Blackstone at 7808 yards is the resort’s premier tournament venue and was the chosen course for the recent “The Match at Mission Hills” tournament between Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. All of the Mission Hills golf clubs have played host to a great many international events over the years and have certainly shown China to be a premier location for the world’s best golfers and ever expanding, the organisation has begun expansion into Yunnan. INBEE PARK The Queen of Seoul ollowing a turbulent history before and after World War II, South Korea located on the Sea of Japan neigbouring China and Japan has in recent years become an economic force to be reckoned with. No longer, just an entry level electronics company, Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest electronics company in terms of revenue based on 2012 figures has dominated the electronic consumers market with its products and of course smartphones with the Samsung Galaxy range now outselling the ever popular Apple iPhone. As a conglomerate, Samsung accounts for 17% of South Korea’s GDP influencing the many areas of Korean society. In the world of golf, more specifically, ladies golf, Korean players have begun to dominate the ladies LPGA tour with almost

half of the top ten players hailing from this country of 50 million people. This brings us to the current world number one Inbee Park. She has had quite a historic year to say the least but we shall get to that shortly. In the meantime, how did a young girl from South Korea become a star of the lady’s game?

Playing with Seoul A Seoul native, Inbee Park began playing golf at the age of ten. Two years later she moved to the United States to pursue a career in golf and soon would make waves stateside. Crediting her father for his support and admiring his positivity towards everything in life, Inbee carried this same philosophy into her golf and soon started making a name for

herself on the amateur circuit. Already a top junior golfer in Korea, she continued to win accolades in the states winning nine events on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) circuit and was a fivetime Rolex Junior All-American Champion. Not finished yet, she won medalist honours during the stroke play portion and then went on to win the match play at the 2002 US Girls Championship. Coupled with her other successes that same year earned her the 2002 Polo Golf Junior Player of the Year, the youngest player to do so. Inbee wanted to join the LPGA before her 17th birthday and requested a special exemption but was turned down. However, Song Hee Kim petitioned the Futures Tour who responded by lowering the minimum age limit from 18 to 17. Although Inbee did not win an event, her performance was

sufficient enough to warrant an exemption for the 2007 LPGA season.

Seoul Sensation Turning professional in 2007 was the start of her ascension to super-stardom. Her rookie year was a mixed affair with some successes but more struggles although she did incredibly well at the U.S. Women’s Open finishing tied for 4th. Then came 2008, the historic year when she followed her strong performance the previous year to take the US Women’s Open crown and become the youngest ever player (19 years, 11 months and 17 days) to win at the blue-ribbon event of ladies golf and in doing so also became the fifth player in LPGA history to win both the U.S. Girl’s Junior Championship and

the U.S. Women’s Open. Move forward four years, she broke the $2 million mark in season earnings becoming only the fifth player in LPGA history to do so but the best was yet to come.

to win three majors in a season and also winning her fifth Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. It seems the number 5 has been a constant variable in her career to date.

Her domination this year in 2013 has been anything but phenomenal winning three of the four majors and closing in on history, she unfortunately missed out at the RICOH Women’s British Open to complete a first ever “Grand Slam” of holding four majors consecutively in the same calendar year in the modern era. Despite this, Inbee has still written her name in history by joining Zaharias (1950), Mickey Wright (1961) and Pat Bradley (1986) as the only players in LPGA history

Away from golf Inbee enjoys skiing and playing the piano and went to her first ever concert to see Korean pop sensation Psy, best known for last year’s global phenomenon song “Gangnam Style”. Is there no end to the rise of South Korea on a global stage? No doubt, Inbee Park will continue to make history and we will watch with great interest where this young lady’s career will continue to venture forth. Inbee-lievable!

朴仁妃首爾之光經歷過二次世界大戰前後一段動蕩的歷史時期，南韓被劃分出來成為獨立國家，位於日本海並鄰近中國和日本。戰後南韓經濟急速發展，成為亞洲第四大經濟體，南韓品牌三星電子於 2012 年名列全球財富 500 強企業，成為全球營收最高的電子工業公司，三星產品如 Galaxy 智能手機系列更是智能手機市場的大贏家，銷售額甚至反超蘋果公司推出的 iPhone。作為國際企業集團，三星的營收已達韓國 GDP 的 17%，在南韓社會的地位可謂是舉足輕重。韓國選手早已在女子高爾夫球界嶄露頭角，今天的女子 LPGA 巡迴賽首十名中有接近一半是來自韓國的，名列世界第一的韓國選手朴仁妃是展開韓國高爾夫球歷史的重要人物，究竟她是怎樣踏上職高生涯，成為高壇一姐呢？

改變高壇傳統朴仁妃生於首爾，十歲開始學習高爾夫球，兩年後移居美國發展高球事業，不久便在美國高壇掀起浪潮。朴把今天的成就歸功於父親無限量的支持，她很欣賞父親積極面對一切的態度，並抱著同樣心態克服球場上的所有困難，很快就在業餘高壇闖出名堂。成為韓國最優秀青少年高球手後，她繼續在美國高壇大放異彩，贏得九場美國 AJGA 賽事以及五場勞力士全美青少年高爾夫比賽，此外，她還在 2002

Why do you have to shout “fore” on the golf course before you hit the ball when someone is on the course in front of you? 在場上打球或比賽期間，當有人走到擊球範圍時，為什麼要大叫「Fore」呢？

Shouting "fore" is another word for "ahead". It is simply a shorter way to yell "watch out ahead" (or "watch out before"). It allows golfers to be forewarned. 「Fore」一詞代替了「ahead」，有小心、看球的意思，比起喊出「watch out ahead」或者「watch out before」更簡便快捷，讓擊球者能預先警告站在面前的人避開，以免被球打中受傷。

How important is it to repair divots? 補養和維修草皮有何重要？

After most swings, you often take away the top layer of turf. It is very important to repair divots as this helps speed up the healing process of the grass. Also, it is part of golf etiquette to repair divots as you play, a courtesy to other players who are behind you on the course. 在同一個位置打過很多桿後，草皮表層會被掘起，影響草的生長，因此，修補草皮相當重要，有助加速草地癒合。除了保持草地健康翠綠外，修補草皮亦是高球禮儀的一部分，眾多球手使用同一個球場，盡一份責任也是對下一手的尊重。

When I tee off, how high should I tee up the ball? 開球時，球座應該架多高呢？

The general rule is that, the longer the club the higher up the ball should be tee'd up. So when teeing off with a driver, the bottom of the golf ball on the tee should be level with the top of the driver. For long to mid-irons, the tee should be a quarter of an inch above ground and for 6 irons or shorter, only the head of the tee should be above ground. 一般而言，球桿愈長、球座的位置應架得愈高。當用一號木桿開球時，球座的高度應跟桿頭的高度一樣；用中至長鐵桿時，球座的高度應距離地面四分一英寸；用短鐵桿時，球座的頂部應剛好貼近地面水平。

Generally, the person nearest the hole will putt last and usually places a marker in place of the ball so that their ball is not accidentally hit by another. However, depending on the circumstances and how strictly you follow the rules, some groups, particularly if it is a group of friends playing a leisurely game, you may relax the rules and play depending on what is most convenient based on the position of the balls. 基本上打得最接近球洞的球手會是最後一位推球入洞，他們會先標記球的位置並把球收起，以免場上有太多高爾夫球產生碰撞，當然還要視乎情況而定，也視乎球手對規則的執著，例如一班朋友為娛樂一同打球，有時未必太著重規則，只希望方便大家和打得開心，誰先推球入洞都可以。

I’m quite a short person. Is there an advantage to being taller when playing golf? 長得比較矮對打高爾夫會不會有影響，是不是長得高的人比較有利？

Undoubtedly, tall players have greater power as their hands, legs and bodies are longer making the swing bigger. However, is it unfair to the short players? If you are short, you can still stroke a powerful swing once you know how to develop your greatest power. Short players should practise their swing more often to develop their power. Since joining the family business started by his late father Dr David Chu, who many regard as the man who put golf on the map in China, with his brother Dr Ken Chu, they have continued with the family legacy at The Mission Hills Golf Club by bringing international golf to the largest golf club in the world. Born in 1976 in Hong Kong, some say that Tenniel was destined to play a role in the golfing world owing to the history of his family. His father envisaged

a future for golf in China and turned an area of 20 square kilometres in Shenzhen and Dongguan from open fields to luscious fairways and greens into what we now know as Mission Hills Golf Club. Responsible for bringing the first professional golf tournament to China, the 41st World Cup in 1995, his father was truly at the forefront of China golf. With many other interests and passions, his father’s influence within golf and beyond has had a significant impact in China and South East Asia. For the young Tenniel it was certainly going to be a hard act to follow in his father’s footsteps.

In 2001, Tenniel returned home to China to work with his brother managing operations at Mission Hills, acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest golf club with 216 holes. It has been his role as Vice Chairman that Tenniel has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between China and the rest of the golfing world. As Tenniel explained, “Mission Hills’ aim has been to create the window for China to the world and bring the world to China”. His initiatives includes organising a whole host of international tournaments that have attracted top professionals from both the men’s and women’s game. Mission Hills was the first venue in China to invite the legendary Tiger Woods to play in 2001 and then again in 2011. Not only has the focus been on supporting and promoting the professional game but there has also been a strong emphasis on making golf accessible to all. Numerous events aimed at the amateur, senior and in particular, the junior circuit have been major initiatives for Tenniel. Only recently in August 2013, Annika Sorenstam was in China for her annual ANNIKA Invitational, an event designed to promote junior ladies golf. Wishing to be creative and innovative Te n n i e l s t r e s s e d t h e d r i v e t o b r i n g something new and exciting to golf, “either doing things that are the biggest or has not been done before”. In 2004, he created the “Golfathon” in recognition of Mission Hills as the largest golf club in the world. This unique event was created to celebrate their achievement and bring together players from around the globe. Still going strong, the event has attracted almost fifty thousand golfers from over 30 countries who participate in a multicourse tournament over six months. It has become the largest and the most influential amateur competition in the

world. Tenniel despite being the creator of this event did admit that he has not actually taken part to date but does intend to do so at some point in the future should his busy schedule allow. In addition, he has been the main person behind the 2010 European Senior Tour ISPS Handa Senior World Championship and organised the World Celebrity Pro-Am tournaments, World Cup of Golf and the World Ladies Championship among the many other tournaments he has been responsible for. Certainly, his view on ladies golf is one of great respect. As Tenniel explained, in the last few years, Asian golfers have more or less dominated the ladies tour and Mission Hills has tried to provide the platform and support by encouraging more competitions and hosting various tournaments. Their inaugural World Ladies Championship in 2012 was dominated by China who swept the board with Feng Shan Shan winning the individual title and leading China to the team title. Tenniel expressed pride in his country for this achievement. He feels the ladies game is gaining more prestige as time goes on and the sponsors and media are recognising and responding to this. He cites their professionalism both on and off the course as a defining factor in raising the profile of the ladies game.

Nurturing a Future Generation Tenniel’s mission has very much centred on growing the game of golf, particularly in China and developing the talent and future stars of golf. Particular emphasis has been placed on junior golf development in China and the Asia Pacific and his partnership with the legendary Annika Sorenstam who also shares his vision has been instrumental in providing young players the best possible opportunities to excel in this sport. Following the suggestions and leadership of Tenniel, Mission Hills has also organised a series of junior golf

competitions to provide Chinese and Asian teenagers with opportunities to become involved in golf. Some of these competitions have included the Mission Hills Golf Series Junior Tour, Faldo Series, Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship and the first Mission Hills St. Andrews Home to Home Charity ProAm hosted with St. Andrews University where all proceeds from the tournament is used to send talented young Chinese golfers to study and improve their game at the home of golf in Scotland. Tenniel was particularly proud of the organisation’s initiative where they offered every junior golfer under the age of 16 free open access to the Zhang Lianwei Course, as well as the Stepping Stone and Double Pin Courses at Mission Hills Haikou providing junior golfers an opportunity to play and experience golf on these world class golf courses. With golf being reinstated into the Olympics, this will provide China with a global stage to showcase their young talent and Tenniel hopes to play his part in opening the doors for China. With his many years in golf, his proudest moment or indeed motivation has been to follow what his father started and help change a country citing that golf in China is still very much in its infancy and if he can change people’s perception and lifestyle, this will have taken him one step closer towards realising his dreams and that of his late father. More recently, Tenniel organised The Match at Mission Hills at Mission Hills Haikou on 28 October 2013. It was to be the only competition in China this year where golf ’s world No. 1 Tiger Woods would participate with his rival Rory Mcllroy. There was a junior golf competition before the match between these two world-class golfers where the championship trophy was presented to the winner by Tiger Woods. To further promote junior golf, 15-year-old Chinese golf star Guan Tianlang joined these two mega-

stars in a Skills Challenge. Furthermore, the match was free of charge to all spectators under the age of 18.

"Most Powerful People in Golf" Undoubtedly, Tenniel has contributed greatly towards establishing an important position for China golf. This year, the most authoritative American golf magazine Golf Inc. presented a ranking of the most powerful people in golf in Asia. Dr. Ken Chu, Chairman and CEO of Mission Hills Group and Tenniel, Vice Chairman of Mission Hills Group made history and were ranked as the most powerful people in golf in Asia. Golf Inc. with their professional editorial team in Asia, Europe and America went through a rigorous selection and evaluation process before drafting the list. All selected individuals had shown great contribution and influence in golf from golf management, education and training, sustainable environmental development, sustainable business operation, golf course improvements to golf promotion.

The putter head speed at impact determines how far the ball will travel. With different posture, power and range of swing, you can do a variety of putting motions. The whole process of Triangle Putting is mainly controlled by the shoulders. Straighten and stretch your forearms with the ball placed on the ground in the middle. Keep your forearms straight while putting. The putting process and power are both led by the shoulders. Both hands and shoulders should be kept in the shape of a triangle when addressing your position then making a backswing and following through. Triangle Putting 主要由肩膀控制擊球準備、上桿和送桿的鐘擺動作，手肘至手腕位置伸得比較直，球置於中間位置。推桿期間手肘至手腕位置保持不變，沒有任何獨立的彎曲動作，整套動作由肩膀帶動力量，擊球準備、上桿及送桿時，雙手和肩膀要維持穩定的三角形姿勢。

The Low-Point Putting process is controlled by your left hand. The ball is placed towards the left, the low point position. Keep the left hand straight during the process and use the left shoulder to control the movement of the swing. Both hands and shoulders should form a triangle after the backswing. Within the putting process, the ratio between the backswing and the afterimpact swing should be 6 to 4. After the impact with the ball, the left forearm, wrist, putter and club face should be kept in a straight line to the finish position. If something this good is so bad for you then why do we drink so much of it. Can we not choose an alternative to kick start the day. Before you become all depressed with what appears to be a negative commentary on this much loved drink, allow one to divulge into some of the benefits that coffee can offer.

Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 馬來西亞女子賽 October 13, 2013 Rolex Rankings No. 21 Lexi Thompson ran away from a strong field in Kuala Lumpur to win her second-career LPGA Tour victory and first as a Tour member at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. The 18-year old American shot a final-round 69 for a four-day total of 19-under 265 to finish four shots ahead of Shanshan Feng. Feng shot a 67 to pick up her second runner-up this season, a week after she won her second LPGA title in China. Thompson set a new scoring record for the event with a 19-under 265 total and shot all four rounds in the 60’s for the first time in her career. The four-day total also marks a career low for the Coral Springs, Fla. native. The Inaugural Reignwood LPGA Classic at Pine Valley Golf Course in Beijing he LPGA Tour begins its five-tournament Asia swing this week at the inaugural Reignwood LPGA Classic outside of Beijing, the Tour’s first trip to the capital of China. In conjunction with the China Golf Association and the China LPGA, the Pine Valley Golf Club will play host to 81 LPGA and CLPGA players who will compete over 72 holes for a chance at the $270,000 firstplace cheque and be the first to etch their name on the tournament’s trophy. Headlining this week’s event will be Rolex Rankings No. 10 Shan Shan Feng, the top-ranked golfer who hails from the People’s Republic. Feng made history last year when she captured the Wegmans LPGA Championship title, becoming the first Chinese golfer, male or female to win a major championship. Her feat has helped spark a golf boom in her home country. Six of the top 10 golfers in the Rolex Rankings are slated to be in the field this week including No. 1 Inbee Park and No. 3 Stacy Lewis, who are both seeking title defenses during the fall’s Asia swing. While Park currently leads the Rolex Player of the Year race, she will be looking to strengthen her grip on the award after Suzann Pettersen put herself within 77 point s after she captured back-to-back victories at the Safeway Classic and The Evian Championship. Pettersen unseated Lewis from the No. 2 spot providing for what looks to be a dramatic finish to the 2013 season.

Shan Shan Feng wins the Reignwood LPGA Classic in front of a homecrowd

Making History with Shan Shan Feng 馮珊珊名垂史冊 During the National Day holidays, Shanshan Feng, the only mainland Chinese golfer who has won a major championship, has once again brought honor and pride to Chinese golf fans. Hitting the pin with her second shot, Feng made a four foot eagle and completely turned the game around on the par 5 18th. She won the Reignwood LPGA Classic with a one shot lead. A View of Asian Golf Shanshan Feng’s coach Gary Gilchrist compared the development of women’s golf in Asia and in the U.S. at the Reignwood LPGA Classic. He believes women’s golf has already become very strong in Asia, and the inclusion of golf as an Olympic sport will certainly bring further growth. On the other hand the situation for women’s golf in America is not as optimistic. The result at the Reignwood LPGA classic seems to confirm Gilchrist’s point of view. Shanshan Feng topping the leaderboard has attracted a huge crowd of Chinese spectators who are rooting for her, even those who know little about golf. In addition several young Chinese players with great potential have already been noticed by Gilchrist. Gary Gilchrist certainly wants to be part of the Asian golf boom. He has already set up a golf academy in Taiwan with another of his student Yani Tseng. He is looking forward to joining forces with Shanshan Feng to provide training for young players in mainland China.

The Future’s Bright, The Future’s Red As Shanshan Feng claims the victory in the afternoon with an eagle on the 18th hole; the inaugural Reignwood LPGA Classic has become a momentous game in the history of China’s golf. Thanks to the Reignwood Group, the LPGA Tournament has returned to China after five years. There has been tremendous development for women’s golf in China during that period. Firstly, Shanshan Feng made her appearance on the Reignwood Pine Valley golf course as the only mainland Chinese player who has won a major championship. She finished the last round with 68, 5 under par, scored a total of 266 (70-64-6468), 26 under par, won the second LPGA tournament in her career. for two days and ranked 19th and 23rd finally. Do not forget that many young Chinese players also handed in brilliant scorecards. All of the above were almost unimaginable five years ago. Equally important are the support and passion from Chinese fans. The Reignwood LPGA Classic is not only one of the top level tournaments in China, it has also attracted the largest live audience for ladies golf tournaments in China. An expert said that the number of spectators exceeded even the Men’s EuropeanTour event held in Beijing recently. The Reignwood LPGA Classic has set new standards and transformed the public’s perceptions towards ladies’ golf. The cooperation between the Reignwood group and LPGA was formed for three years. From next year the importance of the tournament will be more significant, as the rankings will affect players’ eligibility and qualification for entering the 2016 Olympic Games.

T h i s y e a r, t h e R e i g n w o o d g r o u p invited four mainland Chinese golfers as sponsor invites, the number of participating Chinese players reached 20. Including two players from Taiwan, there are 22 Chinese ethnic players in total. China was also the country with the most players, counting for a quarter of the total competitors. What is happening with golf courses in Hong Kong??? 香港高球場的命運

s debate continues regarding the occupation by Hong Kong Golf Club of prize 'land for development', what do Hong Kong lady golfers think about the possible end for Hong Kong's oldest golfing facility? How many of you attend and enjoy the HK Open which draws increasing crowds every year, keen to soak up the unique atmosphere of a live golf tournament? Do we think it should become a more accessible facility? Suggestions in the press include turning one (of the three!) golf courses into a public facility along the lines

of the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau set up. Should the golf club bow to the endless quest to find yet more land for the ever pressing need for decent public housing and simply close its doors and let the bulldozers in? My own most memorable experience at Hong Kong Golf Club was the unexpected bonus of snapping an obviously relaxed British movie star who appeared to have most enjoyed his game on the links. The truly charming Hugh Grant made our 19th hole complete by agreeing to pose for a photo with us! What a star!!!

It would be a shame not to see him out there I must say! Ladies, have you spotted someone famous (or infamous) whilst you've been playing here in Hong Kong. Email me and let me know... 有關政府計劃將粉嶺高爾夫球場納入新界東北發展規劃的議題至今仍未告一段落，各位女士對於香港這古老球場有機會被收回又有甚麼意見呢？香港公開賽每年都吸引不少觀眾到場打氣，人數更逐年遞升，你又有沒有去湊個熱鬧呢？有多少人真的有興趣感受現場高爾夫球賽獨有的氣氛呢？大家認為粉嶺高爾夫球場應否變成一個更大眾化、讓更多市民共享的公共設施呢？有關報導指政府其中一項建議是要將球會其中一個

球場 ( 共有三個球場 ) 轉型為公共球場，跟滘西洲賽馬會公眾高爾夫球場的模式一樣。球會應否讓步讓政府收回土地以興建公屋，滿足香港迫切的住屋需求，為了讓推土機駛進球場動工而把大門關上呢？我在粉嶺球會最難忘的一次經驗是意外地碰見英國影星 Hugh Grant 在球場打球，明顯看見他正在享受假日的悠閒，能夠遇見這樣迷人的國際巨星已經夠驚喜，他還答應跟我們合照留念，實在為當日的第十九洞畫上一個完滿句號，相當有巨星風範！
