As 2014 ends, the dream golf season concluded with many special memories in the world of ladies golf, and while we are still in awe of England’s teenage talent Charley Hull who showed no signs of ‘second season syndrome’ leaping from the LET Rookie of the Year 2013 to become the youngest winner of the LET Order of Merit 2014, let’s look forward to this up and coming season. The LPGA 2015 tournament schedule (page 73) sees 33 events for the year, totalling a purse of US$61.1M including the inaugural Coates Golf Championship to start the season, in addition to the Solheim Cup which will be held in Germany. The January edition of FORE GIRLS takes our readers to Singapore, the city of lions where you will be greeted by the Orchid Country Club’s friendly staff, then a trip to Russia and the US LPGA headquarters for stories on Maria Balikoeva, Russia’s first lady golfer on the LET and Molly Gallatin, whose career moves from the base to the tee. n August 1991, the late Ong Teng Cheong, then Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress had a vision to develop a golf and country club that was accessible to all. He wanted the workers to share in the economic prosperity of Singapore and make golf no longer the game for â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;executivesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;. After two years of development the first phase of his vision came to fruition in September 1993 with the opening of the Singapore Orchid Country Club (OCC) complete with a driving range, golf clubhouse and the 9-hole Aranda Course. Further development continued adding the Vanda and Dendro courses, a social clubhouse and the Orchid Lodge. In addition to the golfing facilities, the club includes many other amenities from a bowling alley, gymnasium, and tennis courts to a swimming pool plus facilities for families and relaxation areas.

Q. What is swing weight and why is it so important? 甚麼是高爾夫揮桿重量？為何它如此重要？

A. Club maker and founder of GolfWorks, Ralph Maltby describes it as "the measurement of a golf club's weight about a fulcrum point which is established at a specified distance from the grip end of the club". It is a measure of how the weight of the club feels when a player takes a swing. If the clubs do not match in swing weight, they may not all feel the same during a swing. Swing weight is expressed as ‘C9’ or ‘D1’ or some other combination of letters and numbers. The manufacturers' standard for men's clubs is D0 or D1, and for women's clubs, C5 to C7. A. If after a stroke a ball in motion comes to rest other than on the putting green, the player must play the ball as it lies, without penalty. However, if it is on the putting green, then that stroke will be cancelled. A. Until 1974, the R&A allowed players to use a smaller ball (1.62 inches in diameter). A. The USGA changed its conforming criteria for grooves. The edges were softened and the shape was changed to eliminate the U-groove or square groove. The new rule came into effect prior to the 2010 PGA Tour season and will be enforced in amateur golf beginning in 2016. 徒步學習曲線上摩莉僅於 2014 年一月份加入女子高爾夫球行列，她說自己仍在學習階段。她的主要工作是在賽事、社交媒體及出版物推廣這項運動，有時也需要她四處發掘球員的有趣故事。她又特別說明，無論是棒球聯賽或是高球巡迴賽上，雖然推廣球員十分重要，但中心還是落在賽事本身，皆因賽事所歷的日子比球員的職高生涯總要長。摩莉在棒球界及高球界工作的日子以來，最大的學習就是要好好利用時間表，既不可過分依賴它們，又不可過分預早計劃，原因是大多時候事情會發生變化，所以要懂得隨機應變。另外，要令大眾加強對女子高爾夫的認識，甚至是女子體育賽事可算是對摩莉的一大挑戰。以前當她為男子棒球界工作時，摩莉自然收到許多電視台和出版商的垂詢。現在於 LPGA，她則需要不斷以嶄新及具創意的方法和策略將賽事的精髓帶到大眾當中，打造英雌，務求令大眾認可這個不幸地沒男子賽事般受歡迎的賽事。

Today, apart from appearance and design, a watch must perform its primary function of providing accurate time so that we can all seize every precious second, whether it be connecting with overseas business partners or staying in touch with family and friends. So the first step is to remove the makeup, shower and go to bed. The damages can best be redressed after you have had sufficient rest. Avoid swelling by taking a sip (of water, of course) before bed, and imbibe a large glass of warm water when you wake up so as to replenish what your body had lost during your prolonged revelry. Is there any way to remove the dark circles under the eyes and fine lines caused by lack of sleep?

Avoid drinking dark-coloured drinks as these contain a natural chemical called congeners which make hangovers worse. Drink water between drinks to stay hydrated. The main cause of hangovers is dehydration so stay hydrated and before you go to bed, it is worth drinking a pint of water to soften the blow when you wake up. Sugary foods may help you feel less nauseous and antacids will help settle your stomach. You may feel that food is a little too much the morning after so go for a light thin vegetable based broth containing a good source of vitamins and minerals to bring back balance to your stomach. Whatever you drink to rehydrate, make sure it is easy on the digestive system. Just water, soda water or isotonic drinks will do nicely. The worst advice anyone can give you is the ‘hair of the dog’ method which means drinking more alcohol i.e. drinking yourself sober. How and why this myth came into being is one of life’s many mysteries and certainly one that should not be recommended. So there you have it ladies, look after yourselves before, during and after ‘a night on the tiles’. In the long run, you will feel better and look better. Drink responsibly and stay hydrated and you can enjoy a drink without the dreaded hangover blues. Worst still, playing golf while recovering from a night out is just painful and if your game already needs help, why hinder it even more with alcohol?
