Hello readers, welcome to the March/April edition of FORE GIRLS. If I were to choose, I would name this issue ‘A Celebration of Age’. We have always said that not a lot of sports accommodate players covering such a wide age group as golf does. Seeing starlets such as Shanghai’s Yan Jing and local girl Isabella Leung making their mark in the history of national and international golf can be just as touching and satisfying as listening to the story of Leong Kuo Wa, how at the age of 60 has managed to enjoy golf more passionately than many others. One of American author Mark Twain’s famous quotes is: Explore. Dream. Discover. For a lot of beginners, they would come to master some skills, develop their own swing pattern, and look for ways to excel themselves. This is called exploration. As they become a more experienced golfer, they may dream about a possible next stage, some may turn professional, others may reprioritise their schedule to make more time for golf, hoping to become a greater golfer. They all have to go through some dreaming, which is also called hope. As they get older and mature, slowly they will come to discover the art and science behind golf. We hope that as usual, you will continue to enjoy our profile stories and also our selection of some of the nicest places around Southeast Asia to play golf, immerse your senses in fine gourmet and plan for a lovely spring getaway. After all, our readers deserve some good indulgence regardless of their age, as Mark Twain also shrewdly said: Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. 親愛的讀者們，歡迎來到三 / 四月號的《FORE GIRLS 女高球雜誌》。可以選擇的話，我會將這一期命名為「歲之歌」，藉以歌頌在不同年歲之中仍用心打球的女士們。我們都常說，沒有甚麼運動能像高爾夫一樣，從少到老都能打。看着上海姑娘閆菁及港隊代表梁稀嵐長大，並且在國家及國際水平上不斷創造歷史，再看看梁老師（梁果華）年屆 60 仍熱切的天天打高爾夫，論毅力、論戰績都不遜於年青人，對這話亦甚有同感。美國作家馬克．吐溫其中一句勵志名言是：探索、期盼、發現。正正對於一眾高爾夫的初學者來說，他們會逐漸掌握技巧、揮桿看線形成一套風格，然後再想想如何繼續進步，這都是探索的一部分。在球場上待的日子久了，經驗多了，有些又會想成為職業球員。其他的，即使需要重新編排生活日程，或許也會多抽時間練球，希望成為更完備和熟練的球員。這，是對未來的期盼，也是在構築夢想。年紀漸長，慢慢他們又會發現這顆小白球所盛載着的藝術與科學。希望大家會喜歡今期的人物專訪故事，尚有我們特意在東南亞蒐羅的高球勝地、令您五感滿足的高級美食，和春日假期的好去處。因為無論您的年紀如何，馬克．吐溫也說過：年齡是心靈層面的問題。如果您不介意，其實也無所謂。

往夢想進發今年三月才滿 19 歲的中國上海球員閆菁 (Jennifer)，最為人熟悉的背景大概是因為父親言明曾在體育頻道 ESPN 擔任高爾夫評論員。閆菁在美國康乃狄克州出生，還在蹣跚學走路時便已開始接觸高爾夫球，後來和家人到新加坡居住超過十年後，2015 年，她以新人身分在美國 LPGA 女子職業高爾夫球巡迴賽上亮相，嶄露頭角，為自己未來的高爾夫事業進發。

Q. If a player’s ball is embedded on the fairway, can the player lift it? 如果球嵌在球道上，球員可以將球取出嗎？

A. A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the original spot and no closer to the hole. 若球嵌在球員自己的球所造成的洞內，球員可以將球取出並清洗而不受處罰；續打時要將球放在盡可能靠近之前的球落點，而非接近洞口。

Q. When was golf invented? 高爾夫球是甚麼時候發明的？

A. The earliest known reference to golf by name was in 1457, where King James II of Scotland issued a ban on the playing of golf and soccer and again in 1471 and in 1491 when James III and James IV re-issued the ban on golf. Some say golf can be traced back to the Song Dynasty in China during the years of 960 to 1279, a couple of hundred years before it first appeared in Scotland. According to Rule 4-3b, “If, during a stipulated round, a player's club is damaged other than in the normal course of play changing its playing characteristics, the club must not subsequently be used or replaced during the round.” The penalty for breach of Rule 4-3b is disqualification. 根據規則第 4-3b 項：「如果在規定的球賽上，球員的球桿因非自然擊球情況下損壞而改變其運動特性，球員不能在該輪比賽中繼續使用或更換該球桿。」如違反規則，懲罰將會是失去比賽資格。

The Junior’s Sister Isabella Leung A protégé of the Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA), Isabella Leung was first introduced to golf by her father when she was eight. She arrived at the driving range with her father to hit a few balls and two years later joined the HKGA where she started competing in tournaments representing Hong Kong in many junior events. It was at the HKGA where she met her coach Brad Schadewitz who improved her game. Subsequently, while competing at the Callaway World Junior Championships, she met her future coach from the University of Hawaii. Whether it be on a global or local scale, the golf industry is certainly one, and you may think that the culinary industry is just a close second. However, Hong Kongâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Vicky Lau has a different view on what a lady chef can do in the realm of culinary arts.

Wreth true creative spirit, Vicky Lau graduated from New York University in 2004 with a degree in Graphic Communications. After working in advertising as a Graphic Designer for a number of years, in 2010 she pursued her passion for food and enrolled in the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu in Bangkok. The experience gave her the opportunity to combine her artistic instincts, sense of style and appreciation for fine dining. As she explains, “As a designer, I wanted to add another element or dimension to my design, and I chose food because it incorporates a lot of senses, from the visual to the aromas, so I loved the idea of it being interactive. For me, it’s combining graphic arts and culinary arts.” With her Grand Diplôme from Le Cordon Bleu, Vicky began her career at Michelinstarred Cépage where she earned a reputation as one of Hong Kong’s most promising chefs. This experience helped her develop her own style, learn an appreciation for seasonal ingredients and focus on details. Encouraged by her peers, in July 2012 she opened Tate Dining Room & Bar – an exquisite area that represents Vicky’s characters inside out – in Hong Kong’s SoHo district.

Driven to inspire, the 26-seat restaurant serves an eclectic mix of French and Asian cuisines and has been awarded a Michelin star every year since opening. Vicky creates ‘Edible Stories’ with each dish conveying an overarching theme, abstract concept or memory. The presentation of the dish provides the narrative where each ingredient is its own character and the interplay between the nuanced flavours, aromas and textures reveal the plot. Her detail-oriented approach also means she focuse on the flow of the menu. “For me, it’s like listening to a great album – it has diversity but it has a natural flow that connects all the pieces,” Tate’s owner and chef explains. “You consider all the elements, from the flavour profiles, to the contrasting textures. For me, cooking is a harmony of art, craft and science.” Only a prolific mind would consider combining the flavours of pommery mustard ice cream, blueberry sauce and a spices and curry tuile to a duck foie gras terrine. For those who do not apply makeup, are there ways to conceal their facial imperfections? Nobody is perfect. We all have blemishes we wish to hide. For those who do not use makeup, they may style their hair a certain way, don an accessory or put on sunscreen to offset facial flaws. But the cosmetic concealer does play an important role in makeup. Colour spots are usually much darker than your normal skin tone. So pick a concealer one or two shades lighter than your skin tone, dab it on and pat lightly to smooth it out, then put on your choice of foundation. This works equally well for scraggly skin, but do not try to fill the spots with concealer. Go for a 3D effect with the play of light and shadow – pat and blend, then apply foundation lightly over the area.

Of course wearing designer contact lenses and makeup can mask the problem but this is only a quick fix. To add or regain that sparkle and have someone lose themselves in your eyes, you must follow a long term plan. Health wise, drink plenty of water and eat foods full of vitamin A and C. This will provide a base from which to work from. As women, from eyeliner, mascara to eye shadow, we all wear some form of eye makeup. Rinse your eyes well after carefully removing makeup with a clean remover. Try not to use too much makeup as this can leave the skin around the eyes dry. A simple method to brighten your eyes is to rub the palms of your hands together until they are warm and then place them on closed eyes for a few minutes. Another technique is to rub your eyes with some ice in a circular motion, immediately followed by applying cotton dipped in hot water. This change of sensation from hot to cold and vice versa will not only rest the eyes but bring back that sparkle. While age old methods such as black-tea-plus-cotton-pad eye masks may be too unhygienic or risky for you, do get hold of eye care products that contain rich antioxidants such as green or black tea. Prefer something handy for your office? Always keep small eye cream or roll-on tubes in your drawer and apply a small amount when you need a break from the computer. Who can forget chilled cucumbers when de-puffing your eyes? We love sunshine and there is nothing better than soaking up the rays but be sure to protect your eyes with appropriate eyewear. We know that exercising the body is good but you can also exercise the eyes by shutting your eyes and squeezing hard then opening as wide as possible. The idea is to repeat this action slowly until your eyes begin to water. This can improve your eyes look and freshness by relaxing your eye muscles. So, some inexpensive and effective ways to bring that sparkle back to your eyes.
