We are extremely excited to know that the Royal and Ancient Golf Club has ‘done what is right’ for women’s golf by accepting female membership after 260 years. Before they reveal which 15 prestigious lady golfers will become their members, we would love to see more women’s golf elements in Hong Kong. Will there be a chance for a Women’s Hong Kong Open? Modern history maker Inbee Park and her swing coach Gihyeob Nam tied the knot in their homeland Korea! Inbee’s bridesmaid, So Yeon Ryu also admitted recently that she has crossed the hurdle of being too controlling of all factors on the golf course but instead only take control of what she can and be able to enjoy life and golf. At some point in life we realise that we are limited as human beings, but a breakthrough is always precious, and can always open the door to a wider world for you. After all, who says golf is only a sport? 這可是高爾夫最漂亮的季節！蘇格蘭聖安德魯斯皇家高爾夫俱樂部球會在九月進行投票，結果會員們為女子高爾夫球「做出正確的事」，在 260 年後首次接納女會員。正當在我們等候第一輪 15 位對高球界作出重大貢獻的女會員名單時，我也希望看見香港有更多女子高爾夫的元素。我們又會否看見「香港女子職業高爾夫球公開賽」的面世？不斷創造高球歷史的朴仁妃終於與教練南岐協在韓國共諧連理，實在可喜可賀。她的伴娘和好姊妹柳蕭然最近受訪時表示自己已跨過總想掌管比賽所有變素的心理，現在只專注於自己能控制的事，並享受生命和高爾夫。人總是有限的，可是當你能突破自己時，面前的大門便會打開，帶你通往更廣闊的世界，這是何等寶貴的學習。說到底，誰說高爾夫球只是區區一項運動？

華彬載譽歸來華彬 LPGA 精英賽 2014 上年度的華彬 LPGA 精英賽首次舉行，吸引了女子高爾夫球的一姐們參賽，東道主馮珊珊在北京市民面前勝出的光榮一幕，相信大家還歷歷在目。是年，馮珊珊再次回來一試衛冕，對戰的是世界第一史黛西．路易斯及世界排名首十以內的朴仁妃、蘇珊．彼德森、柳蕭然等人。在賽前的新聞發佈會上，上屆僅以一桿逆轉勝出的馮珊珊說自己今年沒有特別訂下任何目標，可是作為衛冕冠軍，少不免會感受到壓力。史黛西．路易斯上年只是差一桿獲勝，也說今年會再挑戰冠軍寶座。

Is there a penalty if a player misses their tee time in a tournament? 球員會因錯過比賽的開球時間而被罰嗎？ Yes! If the golfer misses their tee time, they will be disqualified. However, if it is within five minutes of the tee time and the group has not yet hit their second shots, then the player will be penalised two strokes instead of getting disqualified. 會。如果球員能在五分鐘內或同組球員尚未打第二桿時趕上，那麼只會被罰二桿；如在上述時間趕不上則會被取消參賽資格。

If a ball is sitting right next to the hole, how many seconds does the player have to consider it as holed out when it drops into the hole? 如果球停在洞口，要在甚麼時限內跌入球洞才算作一桿入洞？ If a ball sits and then drops into the hole within 10 seconds, it is considered as holed out. However, if it drops into the hole after 10 seconds, then one stroke will be added to your final score for that hole. However, if the ball lands within the Out of Bounds area, then the player will be penalised two strokes and they will have to re-hit from the original spot. A player can also drop the ball no closer to the hole for a one-stroke penalty. 若球不慎被打進水池或流水中，球員可選擇照打而不受罰。可是，若球落在或進水後被水推出界線以外，那便會算為出界而被罰兩桿，需要回原地重打。球員亦可選擇在球落點與球洞連線的後方拋球續打，罰一桿。

What is the penalty when a player carries more than 14 clubs in a tournament? 如果球員在比賽時，球包超過十四支桿會被罰嗎？ Ian Woosnam, a golf legend was penalised two strokes for carrying 15 clubs, as he led the 2001 Open Championship. He came into the tournament as favourite, his caddy forgot to take out this extra club from his bag before the tournament. When his caddy realised the mistake, it was way too late. Mike ‘Fluff’ Cowan, who most of us will remember from when he was Tiger’s caddie, also forgot to count his player’s clubs on the first tee. Jim Furyk was penalised four strokes in 2009 at a PGA tournament. Rule 4-4 stipulates that a player must not start a round with more than 14 clubs. The common denominator for many golfers in Hong Kong is that they got into golf at an early age usually accompanying their parents to the golf course. For Vicki Ho, current Vice PGA Captain of Hong Kong, her path to a career in golf was a little different. Born in Hong Kong and growing up playing a multitude of sports such as basketball and badminton, Vicki and her peers did not have any interaction with golf hence it was a sport that did not enter her life whilst growing up. It was not until she was heading to Perth, Australia to study for a university degree that golf presented itself. Initially, Vicki was to study Sports Management but during the selection process she noticed Golf Management and was curious about this course. This curiosity led to her first step towards a golf career.

天緣奇遇何鎂迪香港之內，只要問問身邊的人，不難發現大多數球員都因小時候隨父母下球場而開始接觸高爾夫。可是對香港職業高爾夫球會女子組副隊長何鎂迪 (Vicki Ho) 來說，她遇上高爾夫球的路徑卻不盡相同。Vicki 在香港出生，自小熱愛運動，籃球、羽毛球等樣樣皆精，但高爾夫球卻從未曾走進她的生命之中。直到後來到澳洲柏斯攻讀大學，本想修讀運動管理學，卻看見報名表上出現高爾夫管理學一科，覺得新奇有趣，便決意修讀。這一次奇遇，為她與高爾夫球結下不解之緣。

ELIMINATE THE DOUBT Our enemy on the tee box is Doubt. Doubt creates tension, non-commitment and literally, self-destructs our swing. 在發球台上的敵人永遠是對自己的懷疑。疑慮會造成緊張，令自己難以專注，換言之會將自身的揮桿能力徹底毀滅。

NO 錯誤 How many times have you walked onto a tee box and said to yourself, “Crap, look at those bunkers surrounding that Par 3.” Or, “Yikes, there’s water on this hole. I better not go in it!” Or, “Pleaseplease get this ball off the ground!” 有多少次，當你走上發球台時會對自己說：「天啊，看看這三桿洞周圍的沙坑！」，或者「哎呀，這個洞有水池。我一定不要打進去！」，又或者「這個球千萬要別停在地上！」。

Whatever the sabotaging culprit is, it needs to go… NOW. The best method to eliminate doubt is to have a plan. A consistent plan will help focus your mind and settle those nerves. I Want to Be

More POWERFUL! 增強耐力走畢全程 As mentioned in my previous column, since junior golfers are too young to drive a golf cart, all they have is their own legs to walk the whole course. This, as a result, means that it is vital for junior golfers to maintain good health, for a lack of stamina may occur during the last few holes if the player’s physique cannot cope with the demands. Here are some tips for junior golfers on how to improve their stamina and strength:

1) Run three times a week, starting with 10 minutes and slowly increasing to 30 and

60 minutes.

2) Weight training. The weights can vary according to the age of the player or

their strength. Start with 5lbs and slowly add to this weight until you reach

your acceptable weight.

Action 1: Imitate a half swing holding the weight instead of a golf club. Using five

minutes as an interval, do three sets at a time.

Action 2: Lift up the weight with your arms to the stomach and hold still,

squat downwards and upwards. This will increase the stamina for your

thigh muscles.

3) Stretch for 15 minutes every day to maintain the body’s flexibility. 4) Last but not least, players, prepare some energy snacks so you can finish the nine

holes with strength and power.

Overnight leader Pornanong finished with 15 under and came second with a prize of over US$180,000. In third place, at 14 shots under par were Sweden’s Pernilla Lindberg, who equalled Feng’s eight under par 63 low round for the last day and career best finish; So Yeon Ryu who led the first two rounds of 66 and 65, and Chella Choi from Korea. Off the course was a Pink Saturday with the Pink Market and a Poolside Fiesta to showcase a mini Ladies Golf 101 and some crafts for kids to enjoy. The 19-year-old KLPGA Tour member Kyu Jung Baek claimed the 2014 LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship at her first appearance on the LPGA tour with a total of 10-under 278, who tied first with the States’ Brittany Lincicome and local beauty In Gee Chun, edging out the newlywed Inbee Park with just one shot. “Coming into the championship, my goal was to get in the top 10 but after a really solid third round, my goal [on the last day] was to get into the top five,” said Baek. “But I have to say I was a little bit more conscious of winning because I was so nervous, I couldn't sleep.” After regrouping, the trio headed to the 18th tee box. All three players laid up on the par 5 but Chun hit her third shot in the greenside water while Lincicome and Baek hit both of their shots to about four feet. Lincicome had the honor and left her putt on the lip of the right side of the hole setting Baek up for her winning chance. After this victory, Kyu Jung Baek’s world ranking has surged from 33rd to 13th. After a rather wet and turbulent tournament, Chinese actor Sun Nan and Ryder Cup star Justin Rose won the individual titles for celebrity and professional respectively. Justin made it a double by winning the Pro-Celebrity Team Category with China’s top director Feng Xiaogang. This win set Justin up nicely for his match with Ian Poulter a few days later on their Rose-Poulter Golf Course. With stars of both entertainment and sport, past, present and future, it was certainly a stellar few days and respect goes to all involved for soldiering on despite the weather conditions. This year has been yet another occasion for Mission Hills to bring a global audience to golf and long may it continue.

Celebrity Golf Clinic 明星也上課

The World Celebrity Pro-Am at Mission Hills was a star-studded event with 24 celebrities and 24 professional golfers teaming up to play in a sporting event where proceeds would go to the World Wildlife Fund and Yao Ming Foundation. Away from the actual two day competition stars of the silver screen and sport took time to attend their very own golf clinic and receive coaching from the Mission Hills Academy where they had the opportunity to receive coaching from Group Executive Director Iain Roberts and his dedicated team. Among the stars included K-pop singing sensation Jessica Sooyoun Jung of South Korea, former professional footballer and threetime European Champions’ League winner Clarence Seedorf and Brunei born Taiwanese Celebrity Wu Chun. Incheon Asian Games 2014 仁川亞洲運動會 25th-28th September, 2014

Played at the 7,031-yard Dream Park Country Club, the Incheon Asian Games has once again proven that Korea, Thailand and Chinese Taipei are 2014’s regional golf powerhouses. In the women’s section, Park Gyeol from Korea carded a 269 (-19) record to claim the individual gold medal, followed by Thailand’s Sukapan Budsabakorn (270) and Sangchan Supamas (274). Shi Yuting just missed her last medal as an amateur with 279 (-9); while Hong Kong’s Tiffany Chan came tied eighth with a total of 282. In the men’s section, Taipei’s Pan Cheng Tsung (271) and Yu Chun An (276) together with Korea’s Kim Namhun (273) finished as the top three.
