As you are reading this March issue of Fore Girls, our team will be at Mission Hills Haikou covering the World Ladies Championship 2014 (the weather had better be good!). We will certainly come back with great stories to tell in the upcoming edition, so do look out for the next issue. Our March issue unfolds an adventure before you – from the story of World No. 2 Norwegian player Suzann Pettersen, a virtual Sultan’s Empire for a vacation, Zahrabel – an exotic Lebanese private dining club, to a treasure hunt in Sai Kung… but this is not all! We have also spoken to Tom Phillips, CEO of the Hong Kong Golf Association and attended the Mercedes-Benz and HKGA partnership press conference where a 3-year partnership agreement was signed. With the World Ladies Championship scheduled in the first week of March 2014, we look back on the career so far of one of the game’s most exciting players in the world of ladies golf. Having won the World Ladies Championship last year, Suzann Pettersen is back to defend her title in what will surely be another great tussle with current world number one, Inbee Park and many of the world’s top female golfers.

What do the white and yellow stakes and lines mean on a golf course? 高爾夫球場上的白柱、白線及黃柱、黃線有何用處？ White stakes and lines show the out-of-bounds area of a course. So a golfer needs to ensure that they hit the ball within these indicators. Should you hit the ball out-of-bounds then you will incur a stroke and distance penalty. The yellow stakes and lines indicate water hazards. 白柱及白線代表球場的出界範圍，故高爾夫球員要確保打出的每一球都需於這些標記的範 圍內落地。如擊球出界，該球仍算一桿，另將加上距離罰桿。黃柱及黃線則標示水障礙。
What is the maximum number of clubs that I can have in a golf bag? 我最多可放多少支球桿在高爾夫球袋中？ The maximum is 14 clubs. You can carry less if you choose and can add more clubs during the round as long as it does not exceed 14 and does not interrupt play. Also, the 14 clubs you start with must be the 14 you finish with. There are exceptions to this if you break a club during a round. A native of Hong Kong, Eva Yoe began playing golf at a young age citing her father as the major influence in encouraging her to take up the game. Showing early promise and a natural talent as a youngster, Eva soon caught the attention of the local golfing community. In 1997, the year she started playing golf, she entered the Hong Kong Junior Closed Championship finishing third before being chosen to be part of the Hong Kong National Team. The Head of Sports Psychology at the Hong Kong Sports Institute also recognised her talent and began working with Eva to develop her mental skills for the game. As a junior player, Eva subsequently won many junior tournaments in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Macau, USA and Singapore and travelled to Taiwan as a teenager to further develop her game.

The Kafta dish, grilled skewers of blended minced lamb with parsley, onion and Lebanese spices together with Lamb Molfalfal, succulent pieces of lamb infused with Middle Eastern spices provides those with a taste for all things meaty, the perfect complement to the starter. My personal favourite of the dishes was the Samke Harra, fish baked in a sharp and spicy tahini based sauce. The sourness helped to open the appetite and take the edge off the heavier meat dishes. Together, the range of dishes provided a nice variety and epitomised the mission statement of Zahrabel of a relaxed takeyour-time dining experience. Of course, it would be rude not to accompany the food with a nice glass of wine, in this case, a Lebanese Sunset Rose. To finish the evening, I sat back with a hot minted tea that left a very fresh and soothing feeling.

he first ladies tournament on the Hong Kong Golf Association’s 2014 calendar, the Hong Kong Ladies Close Amateur Championship was held at Discovery Bay Golf Club in the cold breeze of February. The weather, however, did not stop 17-year-old Kitty Tam from winning her first Ladies Close Amateur Championship with a 54-hole total of 236. It was a breakthrough moment for Kitty, runner-up of the same tournament last year as she finished eight ahead of her nearest rival Cheria Heng. Tam even finished with an 85 on the Diamond/Jade Course to go one better and claim victory. 19-year-old Heng carded consecutive 79s in the final two rounds to move into second place while Tiana Lau, 17, finished third with a total of 248 in this World Amateur Golf Ranking event. Tam remarked that the wind had really affected all the players on the last day. Fortunately, she had a large overnight lead which inevitably helped her to the 2014 title. 香港高爾夫球總會本年首個女子賽「香港女子業餘錦標賽」日前於愉景灣高爾夫球場舉行。即使是二 月下旬的寒風冷雨仍無阻去年在同一賽事中屈居亞軍的譚亦晴打出 54 洞總桿 236 桿的成績，並以八桿壓 到幸卓思，勇奪她首個香港女子業餘錦標賽冠軍，其中更在鑽石 / 玉石球場以 85 桿奪標。十九歲的幸卓 思在最後兩輪均打出 79 桿晉升至第二位，而十七歲的劉君寶以總桿 248 桿的成績名列第三，在此列入 2014 世界排名得分賽。 譚亦晴認為最後一天風勢實在太大，對每位出賽球員也有影響；可幸她早兩天領先，故壓力不大。

Jessica Korda had been close to picking up win No. 2 of her LPGA Tour career many times over the past two years and on Sunday, she finally did it. The 20-year-old made a dramatic up-and-down on the 18th hole for birdie to defeat Rolex Rankings No. 3 Stacy Lewis by a stroke at the 2014 season-opening Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic. Season-opening events must have a special magic for Korda, who became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the 2012 season-opening ISPS Handa Australia Women’s Open. After hitting her second shot over the green on the par-5 18th that rested up against the grandstands, Korda took her relief and proceeded to putt the ball while officials and volunteers held up the cable to six feet. The CLPGA Tour continues to expand its calendar and has added yet another tournament to its schedule. On 20 March, taking place at the Zhuhai Orient Golf Club in Zhuhai, Guangdong, this golf club will be hosting for the first time the Zhuhai Classic. Players will be competing for the RMB500,000 top prize. Clearly the top and upcoming players from China will be in attendance. The Zhuhai Classic is the first of several new tournaments scheduled for this year, proving that the CLPGA is becoming ever popular.
