For Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes‘comfortable’ - has never been a word associated with their brand of raucous, roots-tinged rock and bluesy reverie. The band has flourished with more than thirty albums, releasing twelve studio albums since 1976....Rolling Stone named their early release “Hearts of Stone” as one of the “top 100 albums of the 70s and 80s”.... thousands of live performances around the globe, a legion of famously-dedicated and enthusiastic fans, and a vibrant legacy of classic songs that have become “hits” to their worldwide fan base.

They emerged from the New Jersey shore scene in 1974, and though they carried over a significant influence (and some key personnel) from Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, the Jukes evolved as more of a white R&B horn band in the Memphis Stax Records tradition.

Organized by singer John Lyon, guitarist/songwriter Steve Van Zandt (who decamped for the E Street Band in 1975, but continued to produce, manage, and write songs for the Jukes) and Richie Rosenberg, the band is well known for their high-energy live shows and no-holds-barred songs, including “I Don’t Wanna Go Home,” “Havin’ a Party,” “The Fever,” “Talk to Me,” “Trapped Again,” and “This Time It’s For Real.”

They’ll be appearing Friday, Mar 10th, 8:00 p.m. at Patchogue Theater 71 E. Main St. Patchogue. Tickets are $49-$79 and available by calling 631-207-1313.

When Michele Rizzo-Berg started her career as a receptionist for The Westbury Music Fair, she never expected that one day she would be the Executive Director of the Patchogue Theatre, one of Long Island’s most prestigious performing arts centers... And overseeing its 100 th Anniversary. Michele worked her way up the ladder quickly moving to the Nassau Coliseum where she served as Talent Coordinator for two years. From there, she was largely responsible for the revitalization of the Boulton Center In Bay Shore, where she oversaw operations for 15 years. Then, the Big opportunity came knocking...A gig as Executive Director of the Patchogue Theatre.

Bouncing back, Michele has gone ahead full force, booking 40 shows a year, many national acts. She admits that if she could, she would love to book a hundred! Her experience as a Talent Coordinator has served her well, and the relationships she built up over the years have paid off. She works closely with Bowery Presents, who directs many big acts her way.

Part of her mission is to expand the Patchogue audience beyond its current demographic to include more shows geared to women, families and the community.

She believes that the Theatre draws from all of Long Island and Queens, and this is a good point since it takes less time to get to

Michele admits to being a big fan of hard rock and metal, enjoying bands like Warrant, and was a regular frequenter of the Long Island club scene. Of the many shows she has produced, some of her favorites were Richard Marx, Rufus Wainwright, and Edwin McCain.

She has expanded the Loading Dock Series as well as Live In the Lobby over the years. Supporting local artists is a big part of Michele’s mission. BROADWAY: STARRY REVIVALS AND FRACTURED FAIRY TALES

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical “Bad Cinderella” joins the hits “Six” “Into the Woods,” and “& Juliet” as the latest revisionist take on history and fractured fairytales. In Oscar-winner Emerald Fennell’s (“Promising Young Woman”) book, set in the “perfect” kingdom of Belleville, this rebellious Cinderella (Linedy Genao) rethinks the meaning of happily ever after.

Tony-winner David Zippel wrote the lyrics, and Carolee Carmello, Grace McLean and Jordan Dobson co-star under Laurence Connor’s direction. Previews begin February 17. (Imperial Theatre) www.badcinderellabroadway.com

Josh Groban’s fans are thrilled at his return to Broadway in a revival of the 1980 Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler Grand Guignol masterpiece “Sweeney Todd,” while Sondheim’s fans are concerned that the superstar may not have the acting chops to convey the underlying humanity of the avenging “demon barber of Fleet Street.” The starry cast includes Tony-winner Annaleigh Ashford as his pie-making accomplice, Jordan Fisher, Gaten Matarazzo and Ruthie Ann Miles, directed by Tony-winner Thomas Kail (“Hamilton”). Previews begin February 26. (Lunt-Fontanne Theatre). https://sweeneytoddbroadway.com

Tony-winner Ben Platt (“Dear Evan Hansen”) and Micaela Diamond won raves -- as Leo Frank, an innocent Jewish factory supervisor in Georgia accused of murdering a 13-year-old girl, and his supportive wife Lucille Frank, who fights for his acquittal -- in the City Center’s production of “Parade.” Jason Robert Brown and Alfred Urhy’s downbeat, short-lived Tony-

winning 1998 musical tragedy dramatizes Frank’s 1913 trial, imprisonment and 1915 lynching while it also explores anti-Semitism and rediscovered love. Previews begin February 21. (Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre) https://paradebroadway.com

With the catchy catch-line: “The moves he invented. Reinvented,” the revival of Bob Fosse’s 1978 hit “Dancin’” proclaims its intentions: Wayne Cilento, from the original 1978 Broadway production, revisits and reinterprets Bob Fosse’s celebration of the art of dance. The wall-to-wall dance revue features an eclectic mix of songs – from pop to Americana, from jazz to swing. Previews begin March 2. (Music Box Theatre) www.dancinbroadway.com

Master tweakers writer Aaron Sorkin and director Bartlett Sher (“To Kill a Mockingbird”) put a new spin on Lerner and Loewe’s sweepingly romantic “Camelot,” a musical that certainly does not need reimagining. Tony-winner Andrew Burnap (“The Inheritance”) plays the idealistic medieval King Arthur; Phillipa Soo (“Hamilton”), his wife Guenevere; and Jordan Donica, Lancelot in this heartbreaking romantic triangle. Previews begin March 9. (Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center) https://www.lct.org/shows/ camelot/

Oscar Isaac and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s” Rachel Brosnahan star as a 1960s Bohemian Greenwich Village couple – a Jewish intellectual and an aspiring actress – in a troubled marriage in Lorraine Hansberry’s “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window.” Her second Broadway play (which closed two days before her death at 34 in 1965) concerns “idealism, liberalism and not selling out.” Harvey Theatre at the Brooklyn Academy of Music www.barm.org/sign

Last month, the Mets announced the 2023 inductees for their Hall of Fame Museum located in the rotunda of Citi Field. Former third baseman Howard Johnson, southpaw starting pitcher Al Leiter, and team broadcasters Gary Cohen and Howie Rose will be the newest members. Jay Horwitz will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. The ceremony will take place prior to the Mets game with the Toronto Blue Jays on June 3.

The inductions of Howard Johnson and Al Leiter, both fan favorites and key contributors to winning Mets teams in the late 1980s and 1990s respectively, exhibit the reasons why most baseball teams have their own hall of fame museums. While both Johnson and Leiter enjoyed finer careers, they would be the first to admit they do not qualify for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. Nonetheless, they deserve recognition for their terrific tenures wearing a Mets uniform.

Gary Cohen, the longtime Mets television play-by-play voice, and his radio counterpart, Howie Rose, grew up in Flushing and Bayside, respectively. Both cited how living in Queens and therefore being close to Shea Stadium were why they became huge Mets fans at young ages during a Zoom press conference. They spoke about how today’s fans see them with the same fondness their parents had for the triumvirate of Ralph Kiner, Lindsey Nelson, and Bob Murphy who were the team’s radio and TV voices for many years.

can think of Jones, who spent years on various ESPN shows in supporting roles, as a hybridization of Bob Costas and Kevin Hart.

Pickleball has become the fastest growing sport in the country. Given it is a net and racquet sport, it was inevitable many retired professional tennis stars would take an interest in it. Horizon Sports & Entertainment will be staging Pickleball Slam at the Hard Rock Resort & Casino in Hollywood, Florida on April 2. Michael Cheng, Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi, and Douglaston’s own John McEnroe will be competing for $1,000,000 in prize money.

Joe Davis, who called Giants-Eagles playoff game for FOX Sports, got off a good quip when Giants had to call a timeout after quarterback Daniel Jones’s contact lens popped out of his eye. “Football is a contact sport,” Davis said as Jones was heading back to the Giants bench to have his optical issue attended. It was to no avail, however, as the Giants ended their season with a 38-7 shellacking at the hands of the Eagles.

FOX Sports NFL studio team was nicely spoofed in the cold open for the first “Saturday Night Live” of 2023. The SNL writers wanted to use Curt Menefee, Jimmy Johnson, Howie Long, Terry Bradshaw, and Michael Strahan (all played by various cast members) as a way of having fun with embattled Queens

Ken Bruce of Oceanside earned a highly competitive second place finish ($600). ENVISION

HIGHER SCORES:

You asked for more new bowling ball previews, and we listened: In this edition we take a look at Ebonite’s new Envision Pearl ball release, which should be in pro shops by the time this edition goes to press.

From Ebonite:

“The Ebonite Envision Pearl introduces the HyperKinetic22 base cover into the Ebonite line. The innovative HK22 has only been released in a shiny version so far; however, the new Envision Pearl has a 3000 Siaair finish, providing more mid-lane and creates a reaction that will fill a gap in most bowlers’

arsenals.” From area reports, it seems clear that this follow-up addition to the Envision line will be a welcome addition to bowlers’ rollers, especially those in the higher-average skillset. Learn more about it at ebonite.com.

AREA BOWLERS OF DISTINCTION:

Congratulations to East Islip High School junior Kailyn Bloch, who in mid-January was named among 50 finalists on the USA Today HSSA Girls Bowling Team. Those chosen for that distinction are eligible for the 2023 national Girls Bowler of the Year Award … More congrats, this time to Josh Roca, who rolled a 300 game and an 800 series (both scores “on the nose”) on February 1 in the Wednesday Early League at Herrill Lanes. Roca had rolled games of 248, 252, and 300 en route to his big night. The cherry on top: Roca earned a cash prize by winning the bowling center’s “800 pool” award.

and Nassau Congressman George Santos in a very unexpected manner. Bowen Yang was hilarious as Santos.

Tony Dungy must be on the hot seat at NBC Sports. Dungy, who is normally a pundit on the “Football Night in America” show, was pressed into action as Al Michaels’ analyst on the Los Angeles Charges-Jacksonville Jaguars wild card game. The game was wild in every sense of the word as the Jaguars rallied from a 27-0 deficit to beat the Chargers 31-30. In spite of that, both Michaels and Dungy were widely criticized for calling the game in a rather soporific manner.

If that wasn’t bad enough for Dungy, a large number of progressive groups were attacking him for both his public LGBTQ and anti-abortion stances. This is America, and he has every right to his opinions. Nonetheless, alienating viewers is not good business for NBC Sports’ parent company,

Comcast. My biggest problem with Tony Dungy is he puts me to sleep.

One reason the NFL is the most successful business in sports history is it will reach out to every demographic. That is the major reason they were willing to partner with Paramount Pictures on the new film, “80 for Brady,” which tells the story of four female senior citizens who travel to Houston for Super Bowl LI to watch their favorite team, the New England Patriots take on the Atlanta Falcons. The NFL allowed Paramount access to the film of that game as well as its invaluable logos and other property. And of course, they were more than happy to have the greatest player in pro football history, Thomas E. Brady, take on a supporting role.

As is often the case with Hollywood productions, you must suspend all belief because the plot is incredulous from start to finish. That doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it. The film industry does not give a

lot of opportunities for older actors. Therefore, one should cherish any film which stars legends as Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Lily Tomlin, and 91-year-old Rita Moreno who looks at least 20 years younger. My advice is to wait until “80 for Brady” leaves movie theaters and is being shown on the Paramount Plus streaming network.

Stephen A. Smith is a lightning rod sports personality who in many ways is a modern-day Howard Cosell. Smith has written his autobiography, “Straight Shooter” (Gallery Books). Stephen grew up in Hollis and details his less than idyllic childhood with an abusive and frequently absentee father. He does, however, give his dad props for giving him a love of sports which has obviously led to a very lucrative career.

Kudos to Stephen A. Smith for telling his life story without sugarcoating anything. The title “Straight Shooter” lives up to its billing.

WHITNEY MILLER

“15 MINUTES OF FAME”

Country music singer-songwriter

Whitney Miller released her new single “15 Minutes of Fame,” premiered by People.com. The former Miss Texas and Miss United States, kickboxing commentator and MMA fighter is no stranger to hard work and dedication.

Never one to shy away from difficult topics, Miller has taken the pain from a broken relationship and turned the experience into a lifelong lesson that most can learn from. With lyrics like “When it comes your time, I’ll bring the wine and we can make a toast to the next girl in line,” it is clear that she isn’t looking back for one second.

In a short period of time, Whitney Miller is already making her mark in country music with several new singles and a debut album slated for 2023, proving to the world that she isn’t going to settle with just “15 Minutes of Fame” in a man or her music!

STRUGGLE JENNINGS, WAYLON’S GRANDSON

Struggle Jennings, the grandson of Waylon Jennings and Jessie Colter has been nothing short of a true Outlaw from a long line of gangsters, outlaws, and rockstars, making his family lineage proud. An RIAA Certified Gold-selling artist for his collab with Jelly Roll on Fall In The Fall, and #1 Billboard Charting artist for “God We Need You Now”. Struggle has revolutionized a new style of music, blending Country and rap influences and making ground-breaking country rap styles.

Contrary to his family’s upbringing, Struggle and his single mom grew up in lowincome housing, and being the black sheep of the family, he fought through the streets of West Nashville and into the studio where he would create the foundation for what has become his contribution to the Jennings family legacy.

Since being released from prison in 2016, where he served a five-year drugrelated sentence, Struggle has performed for sold-out crowds across the country and released multiple projects. He is finally poised to secure his position as the Godfather of the burgeoning Outlaw Hip Hop Rock & Roll movement.

Denny Laine Wings It To My Fathers Place

The 90-minute show features Denny performing solo acoustic versions of songs from his expansive career including his days with The Moody Blues, Ginger Baker’s Air Force, Wings and others. A natural storyteller, he incorporates behind-thescenes anecdotes about his remarkable musical journey and some of the legendary musicians he has played alongside throughout his career. Plus, he’ll discuss the impact of how key influences such as Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry helped shape his own music.

Denny Laine, two-time Grammy Award winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and founding member of both The Moody Blues and Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles band, Wings, will bring his intimate “Songs & Stories” show to Long

Island’s My Father’s Place at 3 Pratt Blvd, Glen Cove for one night only on Thursday, February 23 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $55.00 and can be purchased online at www.myfathersplace. com. For more information, call the venue at 516-580-0887.

WHEELS & DEALS

In 2018, Denny was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of The Moody Blues who were once touring mates with The Beatles.

As the only member of Wings, besides Paul & Linda McCartney, to be with the group for its

entire run, Denny enjoyed tremendous success throughout the ‘70’s. The group became one of the biggest bands of the decade.

They had several #1 albums and more hit singles with the 1976 release of Wings at the Speed of Sound. The topgrossing Wings Over America tour followed which featured Denny performing select solo and Wings numbers including “Go Now” and “Time To Hide.”

Denny remains in demand, touring both his solo and full band shows, and with new music that he currently has in the works. His new “Songs & Stories” show is a unique opportunity to experience the music of one of Rock’s most enduring voices in a way you’ve never heard him before.

PHIL FIRETOG TRIO SINGLE

Long Island-based alternative acoustic “mom rock” group Phil Firetog Trio & Co. released their single “How A Heart Breaks,” an emotional uptempo pop-rock track about dealing with grief and memorializing loved ones on February 10th. The track describes heartache whilst retaining the intensity of rock progressions, paired with emotionally charged lyrics.

Phil Firetog Trio & Co. is composed of a rotating cast of characters, featuring Phil Firetog (lead vocalist/guitarist), Johnny “Pots” Potocnik (drummer), Liam Gordon (bassist), Tye Granger (saxophone) and Gabriel Nekrutman (flute/clarinet/alto sax). They recently released their fan-favorite single, “Fall,” the first track to include the “Company” performing alongside the trio and their latest holiday-themed single “Long Island Christmas Eve.” They are at Westhampton Beach Brewing Company March 3rd.

TRIPPING JUPITER LIPSTICK OF THE BRAVE

The title track of Tripping Jupiter’s acclaimed 2022 album ‘Lipstick of the Brave’ (produced by Barb Morrison they/them - Blondie, LP, Rufus Wainwright, Franz Ferdinand) has had a short film/ video created for it that was directed by two-time Academy Award nominated animator, graphic designer, cartoonist, and filmmaker Bill Plympton Your Face (1987), Guard Dog (2004).

This song and video delivers a message that celebrates the freedom of gender expression and is a stark juxtaposition to today’s current political climate as we witness drag entertainers be persecuted by right-wing politicians, anti LGBTQ+ groups, religious extremists, and rightwing media who feed into divisive and unnecessary toxic culture wars.

‘Lipstick of the Brave’ has been an official selection at Santa Fe International Film Festival, Outfest Los Angeles, Montreal Independent Film Festival, Big Apple Film Festival, Cherry Grove Film Festival, Woodstock Film Festival, Outshine Film Festival: Miami, Coney Island Film Festival, LA LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

Five tracks from the album also feature bass performed by David Bowie collaborator and legendary session Musician Gail Ann Dorsey.

As March approaches, it’s time to start gearing up for South by Southwest Festival and Conference taking place in Austin, Texas. Spanning from March 10-19, SXSW brings in 500,000 visitors to the city for 10 days of conference and festival events covering music, comedy, film, gaming, tech, business, and so much more. SXSW takes over numerous locations throughout the city as well as the convention center for panels and keynotes educating across all these topics, new movie releases, live music acts of all levels, and a simply all around energizing and exciting time for all attendees. There’s no shortage of free drinks, food, and swag to enjoy yourself every day of SXSW.

A typical day at SXSW might start off with you attending a keynote session on how to go from a bedroom musician to a nationally touring one and tips for building out a tour schedule. Then you might stop by a special event hosted by a company where you can find delicious meals and drinks on the house. You might hop to a music showcase next and see a small band from Utah that you fall in love with. After that, it’s time to find another spot to get some more food and check out a movie premiere to finish the night off. The possibilities are endless and you’re only limited by what your mind can conceive.

On the film end of things, Opening Night will be brought in by a new television series “Swarm”, directed by Donald Glover and Adamma Ebo. The series is a “sister series” to the show “Atlanta” and follows around lead character Dre who is obsessed with a pop star (with quite a few similarities to Beyonce) and focuses on how her fandom takes her to unexpected places, often dark and disturbing. The series, available March 10 on Amazon Prime, focuses on the antihero archetype and the main character can be compared to Tony Soprano or Don Draper. It’s a classic and fresh take on an interesting style and with Donald Glover behind the reigns, is sure to be a hit.

As the days pass, more and more musical acts are announced as part of the music festival at SXSW ranging from small acts just breaking onto the scene to iconic, world famous talent. British psychedelic rock group The Zombies will be stopping by this year to bring their unique and timeless style to the stage. The Zombies came to America in the 1960s

to ride the momentum of their hit single “She’s Not There” and continued to release numerous hits over the subsequent decades.

If that’s not quite your style, perhaps some punk rock straight from Kyoto, Japan might be more your vibe. Otoboke Beaver has just come off a sold out US Tour and are not to be messed with. Their style is quirky, energetic, and very different from what many listeners might be used to. Their sound is akin to if The Ramones were born and raised in Japan with a fast-paced and aggressive sound with frequent changes in rhythm and tempo. The group is inspired by a particular style of traditional Japanese comedy called Manzai and the general writing and delivery of their music is influenced by this. Another example of SXSW talent that you may have never listened to on your own, but can be seen and heard live during the event.

If you’re looking for something with some American roots, Philly rapper Armani White will be stopping by this year. Armani released his debut album, “Keep in Touch” in 2019 and his recent track “Billie Eilish” peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. With heavy hitting production and a trap based lyrical style, Armani can no doubt get a crowd on their feet and ready for a night of fun. Still early in his career, there is plenty of time for this artist to achieve greatness. And what better place to gain even more recognition than at SXSW.

I hope I’ve given you the itch and you’re excited to stop by Austin, Texas this March and join me in what will be another great year of entertainment. Thanks for stopping in and feel free to reach out to me at richiegtechno@gmail.com! Keep raging my friends!

ALLISON ADAMS TUCKER:THREE DECADES

Recorded in New York and produced by Matt Pierson in 2019, RETRO Trilogy features the San Diego-based Adams Tucker assembling an A-team support band that includes Kevin Hays (piano, Rhodes and melodica) Tony Scherr (bass and guitars), Kenny Wollesen (drums and vibes), Yotam Silberstein (guitar), Peter Sprague (guitar) and Bashiri Johnson (percussion). Hip, jazz-kissed arrangements were delivered by Hays, Silberstein, Sprague, Adams Tucker, Josh Nelson and Danny Green. Unlike her previous album, 2016’s travelogue WANDERlust on Origin Records, Adams Tucker decided to forgo horns in hopes of a more acoustic setting dominated by keyboards and guitars.

Each EP zeroes in on the three decades of her evolved freedom of musical expression: the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s—from Cat Stevens to Paul Simon, from Tears for Fears to Prince, from Beck to Elizabeth Fraser with Massive Attack, from her folk-pop-punk and new wave past to her dive into jazz in 2005. The full album is a three-part “old school meets the digital age” jazz collection of re-imagined covers of songs that informed Adams Tucker as she blossomed into a popular singer and bandleader.

TRUMPETER TONY KADLECK

Trumpeter/composer/arranger/bandleader/educator TONY KADLECK is one of the most sought-after trumpet players on the New York City scene, and has been for some time. He moved to NYC in 1986, following his studies at the New England Conservatory–and a stint in the trumpet section of The Buddy Rich Big Band. Eventually, Kadleck was in such high demand locally, for studio and stage work, that touring took a back seat. He played on countless jingles, scores for TV and film, and worked with the cream of the crop, including Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Issac Hayes, and most recently Steely Dan,Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga, Santana, Weezer, Steve Tyrell, and many others.

To say that Kadleck is a rare bird is a major understatement. Possessing the expertise, musical acumen, phrasing, range, chops, and the desire to handle gigs as diverse as the New York Pops and The Who (for example) with straight-ahead professionalism and excellence is not common. His prowess now bears fruit on his own project, Sides (released on Marshall Gilkes’ Alternate Side Records on February 10th), which follows up his previous big band album, Around The Horn, and his debut as a leader, Extended Outlook.

TRANSMISSIONS FROM TOTAL REFRESHMENT CENTRE

Blue Note Records announced a February 17 release of Transmissions from Total Refreshment Centre an eclectic new collection that features a wide range of artists who are part of London’s vibrant Total Refreshment Centre community including Byron Wallen, Jake Long, Matters Unknown, Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, Neue Grafik, and Resavoir.

The album is available now on vinyl, CD, or download and the lead single is “Visions” by Soccer96 featuring MC Kieron Boothe. All the best music has a community underneath it, and the extended family around TRC—a music venue and recording studio founded by Lex Blondel that serves as a vital hub in London’s jazz scene—connects continents and generations, creating the rich relationships that are in full effect on Transmissions From Total Refreshment Centre. The collection draws from new school jazz, hip hop, dub, soul, funk, and drill.Turn it up loud to hear the widescreen young cousins of Guru’s landmark Jazzmatazz in full effect: top players from London, Chicago, and Melbourne seeking out new collaborations, new ways of working, or just new tunes, always coming back to that central truth – that we all need each other.

SPARKS ANNOUNCE HEADLINE TOUR

Sparks announced a major world tour that will see the band playing some of the biggest venues in their more than 50-year history. North American dates get underway Tuesday, June 27 at New York City’s Beacon Theatre and then continue through a massive hometown finale in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 16. For complete details and ticket information, please see allsparks.com/#tour.

Sparks Tour 2023 – which includes a pair of sold-out headline shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 29 and 30 – celebrates the imminent arrival of Sparks’ 26th studio album, The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte, due Friday, May 26 via Island Records – their first release on the venerable label in close to five decades. Described by brothers Ron and Russell Mael as a record that is “as bold and uncompromising as anything we did back then, or for that matter, anytime throughout our career,” the new album follows such classic Sparks releases on Island as 1974’s landmark Kimono My House, highlighted of course by the indelible hit single, “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us.”

RICK WAKEMAN RETURNS

Keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman announced that he will be returning to the USA in March and April 2023, with his latest tour, AN EVENING WITH RICK WAKEMAN: HIS MUSIC AND STORIES, starting Wednesday, March 15 in Phoenixville, PA.

Wakeman’s set will consist of music taken from across the wide breadth of his 50-year-plus career, stripped back to its roots in arrangements for grand piano. It will include work from his early days as a session player arranging and performing keyboards on hits like David Bowie’s Life On Mars, through his groundbreaking stint with progressive rock band YES and his own multi-platinum solo albums, plus quirky covers of other acts like The Beatles.

And this glorious display of keyboard virtuosity will be

punctuated by hilarious anecdotes and reminiscences of his life. Renowned as much for his irreverent sense of humor as his musical talent, as he himself says, all of Wakeman’s stories contain an element of truth; it’s up to the audience to decide how much!

In a departure from his previous solo tours, as well as playing a grand piano, Wakeman will also be bringing along a few electronic keyboards to add variety and texture to his set.

He’ll be appearing April 5th at The Paramount and April 6th at City Winery, NYC.

JETHRO TULL 23RD STUDIO ALBUM

Jethro Tull announced their 23rd studio album, ‘RökFlöte’, which is set for release on April 21st via InsideOutMusic. Following 2022’s ‘The Zealot Gene’, the band’s first album in two decades, Ian Anderson and the band are returning with a 12-track record based on the characters and roles of some of the principle gods of the old Norse paganism, and at the same time exploring the ‘RökFlöte’ - rock flute -which Jethro Tull has made iconic.

You can watch the animated video for ‘Ginnungagap’ (created by Costin Chioreanu) at: https://youtu.be/KoBAD-TRxYA

The track takes inspiration from the god Ymir, the proto-being, a primeval being, who was born from venom that dripped from the icy rivers called the Élivágar and lived in the grassless void of Ginnungagap.

RökFlöte’ will be available on several different formats, including two limited deluxe formats that include bonus demo material, extensive liner notes & a blu-ray featuring Dolby Atmos.

COLDPLAY WEST COAST RUN

After a triumphant 2022 where Coldplay sold more concert tickets than any other artist and broke attendance records around the world, the band have announced their return to the U.S. and Canada with a special West Coast run as part of Music Of The Spheres World Tour.

The iconic band - who were crowned Favorite Touring Artist at the 2022 American Music Awards - will bring their spectacular stadium show to Seattle, Vancouver, San Diego and Los Angeles this September, where they will perform classic hits such as “Yellow”, “Viva La Vida”, “Clocks”, “A Sky Full Of Stars” and “My Universe” in stadiums bursting with lasers, fireworks and LED wristbands.

KANSAS 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR

To further celebrate the band’s 50th Anniversary, InsideOutMusic has released Another Fork in the Road – 50 Years of KANSAS. The 3-CD career-spanning collection features carefully selected tracks from KANSAS’s sizable discography. It also includes a new version of the song ‘Can I Tell You.’ Originally released on their 1974 debut album, the song is updated by the current lineup. Another Fork in the Road – 50 Years of KANSAS is available to order at- https://kansas.lnk.to/AnotherForkInTheRoad-50YearsOfKansas.

“I’m incredibly excited about the 50th Anniversary Tour,” adds lead vocalist Ronnie Platt. “I tell people I’m not allowed to create a setlist, because it would be five hours long. There are so many songs I want to perform live.

KANSAS is currently comprised of original drummer Phil Ehart, bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, violinist/guitarist David Ragsdale, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, and original guitarist Richard Williams. They will appear October 13th at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.

PUBLIC IMAGE LTD. VIDEO “HAWAII”

Public Image Ltd. (PiL) have released the video for the new song “Hawaii,” which features hand-written lyrics by John Lydon. “Hawaii” which Rolling Stone called “an understated and emotional ballad” marks the most personal and heartfelt piece of songwriting yet from John who also created the track’s accompanying artwork.

Public Image Ltd.’s first new music in eight years, “Hawaii” is a love letter to John’s wife of nearly 5 decades, Nora, who is living with Alzheimer’s. A pensive, personal yet universal love song that will resonate with many, the song sees John reflecting on their lifetime well spent, and in particular, one of their happiest moments together in Hawaii. The powerfully emotional ballad is as close as John will ever come to bearing his soul. “It is dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most,” says John Lydon. “It’s also a message of hope that ultimately love conquers all.”

“Hawaii” will also be released on limited edition 7” vinyl this year, and Public Image Ltd. will release a new full-length album later this year.

BLUR’S DAVE ROWNTREE DEBUT ALBUM

Dave Rowntree released his debut album, Radio Songs, streaming now and released through Cooking Vinyl.

Featuring the 6Music playlisted single, “Tape Measure,” and a handful of introductory tracks that have introduced Rowntree’s own music some thirty-two years after Blur’s debut record Leisure was released back in 1991.

Best known as the drummer in Blur, Dave Rowntree is also something of a polymath: film and TV composer, podcaster, light aircraft pilot (and instructor), lawyer, former Labour councillor. “I’ve always been a bit of a nomad,” he laughs. It’s a record set to surprise many people, being an electronic-based album with orchestral fringes, filled with great, tuneful songs delivered by Rowntree’s assured and expressive vocal performances. While down the years he’s provided backing vocals on many of Blur’s albums and onstage during their live sets, this is the first time the drummer has stepped up to the microphone as a singer in his own right. He says he didn’t particularly find the prospect daunting.

JULIO IGLESIAS JR & JEWEL DUET

International recording artist Julio Iglesias Jr., has released “Careless Whisper,” a duet with four-time Grammy-nominated, multiplatinum singer-songwriter Jewel. The new rendition features Julio’s warm, soulful vocals and Jewel’s inimitably sweet voice paired with a delicate samba beat that breathes new life into the beloved George Michael classic. His new album Under The Covers finds Julio reinterpreting an eclectic mix of pop songs in the classic sound of big band and swing—a supreme fit for his crooner voice and innate elegance as a song interpreter. The album’s selection of songs feels like a soundtrack to our lives, evoking good memories and brightening the heart. The album includes lush renditions of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is A Place On Earth,” Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You,” Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” and “I’m Too Sexy” with Right Said Fred.
