It will be screened at the Cinema Arts Centre on Tuesday, March 14th at 7:00 p.m. $10 Members | $15 Public Cinema Arts Centre | 423 Park Avenue, Huntington, NY 11743

TWO WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS RE-ISSUES

In 1980, Genesis P-Orridge and Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson of (then-) Throbbing Gristle travelled to New York City to meet up at the fortified apartment, known as The Bunker, of famed beat writer and cultural pioneer William S. Burroughs and his executor James Grauerholz. Genesis and Sleazy started the daunting task of compiling the experimental sound works of Burroughs, which, up until that point, had never been widely heard.

Break Through In Grey Room documents William S.Burroughs during his time in Europe and England, working with Ian Sommerville on recording with the ‘cut-up’ technique. Sommerville’s technical background enabled him to contribute to the early development of sound-and-light shows in London, leading to work with gear provided by Paul McCartney in an apartment owned by Ringo Starr. For the 2023 reissue, Dais Records has collaborated with the Estate of William S. Burroughs on reissuing the album on vinyl and compact disc, fully remastered by mastering engineer Josh Bonati.

PSYCHOLOGY OF SERIAL KILLERS

The Psychology of Serial Killers and Why They Captivate Us, hosted by Dr. Scott Bonn, one of the world’s leading experts on criminal behavior, is coming to Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts on Friday, May 12 at 8 p.m. Lobby and bar concessions open at 7 p.m. Tickets range between $45-$65 incl. fees. Purchase online at PatchogueTheatre.org or at the Box Office, (631) 207-1313, 71 East Main Street in Patchogue. Audiences can expect to learn what motivates these monster criminals, hear chilling insights into these deviant minds, and the truth behind the headlines.

“The Psychology of Serial Killers is not your average show. It will uncover the many mysteries behind this unnerving topic. Audiences will leave the theater with a greater understanding of what makes these criminals do what they do. We will also learn something out ourselves – why are we so interested in the likes of Dahmer, Gacy, Rader and others?

Right Angle Entertainment produced this tour designed for both the true crime fan and anyone interested in this topic. It will educate and enthrall.” –says Alison Spiriti, Executive Producer, Right Angle Entertainment.

STORM LARGE IS BACK AT STALLER

A force to be reckoned with, Storm Large returns for her third outing at the Staller Center, Saturday March 18th at 8 p.m., poised to blow the audience away with her “wintoxicating and unmissable cocktail of power and vulnerability.” (The Times London)

Storm Large first came to popular attention in 2006, as a contestant on Rock Star: Supernova. Since then, the singular artist has been dominating venues across America, bringing with her original music and interpretations of classics whose might and boldness deliver something unlike anything you’ve ever heard. It was these performances that led The Times (London) to call Large “an intoxicating and unmissable cocktail of power and vulnerability.”

Wholly original and unlike any other performer working today, Large has lived up to her last name, with a larger-than-life persona and talent of the highest caliber. Having moved sold-out audiences to thunderous applause in her last two outings at the Staller Center, Large returns for another evening of music, mischief, and mayhem.

SPRING PREVIEW – ON AND OFF BROADWAY

Among the starry revivals opening this month

“Shucked” is an outlier – an original new “cornfed, corn-bred” musical about a conman who teams up with a hick farmer. The farm-to-fable musical has a score by Nashville country songwriters Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, a book by Tonywinner Robert Horn and direction by Jack O’Brien. (Nederlander Theatre) www.shuckedmusical.com

John Kander and Fred Ebb’s iconic score (with new songs and additional lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda) for the 1977 Martin Scorsese film serves as the inspiration for the highly anticipated new musical “New York, New York” about a musician (Colton Ryan), a singer (Anna Uzele) and other aspiring artists trying to make it in 1946 New York. The book is by David Thompson and Sharon Washington. Susan Stroman directs and choreographs. Previews begin March 24. (St. James Theatre) www. newyorknewyorkbroadway.com

Perry Henzell’s 1972 groundbreaking film “The Harder They Fall,” about an aspiring reggae singer (Natey Jones) disillusioned by the corrupt music industry, who becomes an outlaw, has been adapted into a new musical, using Jimmy Cliff’s songs, by Pulitzer-winner Suzan-Lori Parks, who wrote new songs for this world premiere. (Public Theater) https:// publictheater.org

Hiran Abeysekera reprises his role from the West End’s five-time Olivier-winning production

as a 16-year-old Indian boy stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger and other animals, in Lolita Chakrabarti’s adaptation of Yann Martel’s 2002 novel “Life of Pi,” a tale about endurance and hope. Max directs; with puppetry movement by Finn Caldwell and design by Caldwell and Nick Barnes. (Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre) www.lifeofpibway.com

“Peter Pan Goes Wrong” will be catnip to theatergoers who loved the Mischief Theatre Company’s outrageous farce “The Play That Goes Wrong.” The same Cornley Drama Society attempts to stage the J.M Barrie classic but once again is undermined by technical mishaps and backstage feuds. Previews begin March 17. (Ethel Barrymore Theatre) www.peterpangoeswrongbway.com

Pulitzer Prize winner “Fat Ham,” reinvents Shakespeare’s Hamlet as Juicy, a Black, queer Southern college student returning home to his mother’s wedding at a North Carolina backyard barbecue. James Ijames’s play is a comic delight, celebrating gay identity. Marcel Spears heads a personality-filled ensemble under Saheem Ali’s expert direction. Previews begin March 21. (American Airlines Theatre) www.fathambroadway.com

Larissa FastHorse’s satirical comedy, “The Thanksgiving Play” skewers woke sensibilities as a troupe of progressive, well-meaning artists attempts to create a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving school play incorporating Native American Heritage Day (without the participation of Native Americans).

D’Arcy Carden, Katie Finneran, Scott Foley and Chris Sullivan star under the direction of Tonywinner Rachel Chavkin. Previews start March 25. (Hayes Theatre) www.2st.com

One of the last pieces of unfinished business for the Mets before spring training got underway was signing second baseman Jeff McNeil to a contract extension. McNeil was not due to become a free agent until after the 2024 season, but after winning the 2022 National League batting title, he realized his value was at its zenith. He also wanted to avoid the travails Mets outfielder Michael Conforto incurred in 2021 when he had a horrible season. That was followed by an injury which forced him to miss the 2022 season.

during the season. The travel will be brutal this season with every MLB team slated to play each other at least one series. Baseball fans should expect to hear a lot of unfamiliar voices calling games this year.

major surgery, and the urology staff at Mount Sinai Hospital told him he could do whatever he wanted to without limits. Rose did miss some road trips last summer but that was merely to reduce his travel load as a concession to age. The youthful-looking Rose turned 69 last month.

Mets fans were also anxious about reports SNY and Keith Hernandez were far apart on a new contract. The two sides came to an agreement on a three-year deal just before pitchers and catchers were to report to the Mets winter home of Port St. Lucie, Florida. My guess is the hardest part of the negotiation was not salary, but rather time off

WFAN has hired Valley Stream native Keith Raad to be Howie Rose’s partner on Mets broadcasts. Raad called Brooklyn Cyclones games last season, so he is really living the dream. Patrick McCarthy, the son of Phillies TV voice Tom McCarthy, will take over the pre and postgame show duties from Brad Heller.

Speaking of the aforementioned Howie Rose, he admitted at the Baseball Writers Association of America dinner in January that he was forced to miss the final month of the 2021 season because of a bladder cancer diagnosis. He had successful

Former SNY Mets in-game air personality, Kevin Burkhardt, did a fantastic job calling Super Bowl LVII where the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35. Burkhardt, and his analyst partner, former NFL All-Pro tight end Greg Olsen, showed no signs of nervousness, and were not hesitant to share their opinions about several questionable referee calls.

Tom Brady was supposed to be joining FOX Sports as soon as he retired to be the network’s #1 analyst. He has decided to defer joining FOX

WESLEY IS A WINNER

The LIGBT’s sixth Sport Shot Series event on February 26 at Herrill Lanes in New Hyde Park saw Wesley Grant of Uniondale win the $1,000 top prize by defeating second place finisher James Marinelli of South Hempstead, 286-248. Marinelli earned $650 for his runner-up position. The event marked Grant’s second title since becoming a Long Island Generations Bowling Tour member 10 years ago. Finishing in third place was Carolyn Willis of Bethpage, with a 226 worth $500. Rounding out the top four was Devon Johnson of Brooklyn, with a 198 worth $400.

While scoring was low in both qualifying squads, the shootout began with three of the four bowlers rolling doubles. Grant started with a double, stayed clean through the middle of the game, and finished with six consecutive strikes to secure the victory. Marinelli bowled well and had a pair of doubles, but the game competitor couldn’t keep pace with Grant’s strong finish. Willis started out with a triple, but four consecutive open frames thwarted her title chances.

The LIGBT two-squad sport shot tournament drew 128 entries, paid out $6,610 in prize money, and saw 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded additional funks, bringing the total event payout to $12,435. Scores to cash on the 43-foot “Dead Man’s Curve” pattern were 654 at noon, and 683 at 2 pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest six-game series by a non-finalist, was Eddie Eng with a 1,365. High series of the tournament was shot by Devon Johnson, with an 845 in the 2 pm squad. The winners of the Storm ball raffles were Kristen Henry of West Islip and Peter Parenti of Bayville.

The LIGBT’s tournament schedule continues on; for complete information, log on to ligbtour.com, or call (702) 530-0708.

until 2024. Rather than send Greg Olsen down to call lesser games, FOX Sports executives would be wise to let Brady get his feet wet calling them. Another possibility would be having a three-man booth of Burkhardt, Olsen, and Brady.

FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks added another sports icon to his roster of ex-athlete broadcasters. Derek Jeter will be joining his buddy, Alex Rodriguez, on FOX’s MLB studio baseball shows. Jeter was cautious dealing with the media as a player, but he showed he wasn’t afraid to have an opinion, or even laugh at himself, with last summer’s ESPN documentary miniseries, “The Captain.”

The Roku Network smartly put its toes in the sports waters by running “The Rich Eisen Show” during Super Bowl week.

Beloved Mets icon Ron Swoboda was called on to pinch-hit for Brandon Nimmo at the 2023 Thurman

Munson Awards Dinner. I was chatting with Swoboda before the event about his 1965 rookie season. “Do you know I am now 78, which is four years older than my manager Casey Stengel was at the time?” Swoboda, who is in great shape, looks at least 20 years younger than his chronological age. Stengel always looked 20 years older than his.

Also attending the Munson Awards Dinner was former Mets pitcher, and newly-named Long Island Ducks pitching coach, Nelson Figueroa, who will now be part of manager Wally Backman’s staff. “I don’t know which will go first, my lungs or my liver!” Figueroa cracked talking about the hard-charging Backman.

This annual event, named after the late Yankees captain, has raised nearly $20 million for AHRC, a nonprofit whose mission is to help those with cognitive disabilities.

Cognitive disabilities are a major plot point of the new Woody Harrelson movie, “Champions.”

Harrelson plays Marcus Maracovich, a high-strung assistant coach for the fictional minor league pro basketball team, the Iowa Stallions. Maracovich loses his job after punching the head coach of the team for not using the play he drew up to win the game. Even worse, he gets arrested on a DUI charge after hitting a stationary police cruiser.

He is sentenced to community service where he has to coach a team whose players all have some degree of intellectual impairments. “Champions” borrows liberally from the underrated 2006 Johnny Knoxville film, “The Ringer.” The plot where a selfish ne’er-do-well gains redemption by helping those less fortunate is as old as the hills. Nevertheless, “Champions” succeeds because of a winning cast led by Harrelson, Kaitlin Olson, Cheech Marin, and Ernie Hudson. The movie rightly conveys the message that those with cognitive issues can lead full, and surprisingly, enriched lives.

Don’t miss the two-part Netflix documentary, “Bill Russell Legend.” The executive producer of “Bill Russell Legend” is former HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg. All of the production values from his Emmy Award-winning HBO documentaries are here such as rarely seen NBA footage; commentary by teammates and opponents; and the real world events happening during Russell’s career.

Former Knicks great Amar’e Stoudemire started a winery in Israel six years ago. His Stoudemire Wines were in high demand at the recent Kosher Food & Wine Expo at Chelsea Piers last month.

Another month, another round of TechnoBeat for you to enjoy! There’s some awesome shows coming your way and some great new music so strap in.

Making a three-night tour stop at Terminal 5 from March 15-17 is the trumpet playing superstar himself, Timmy Trumpet. This incredible artist has made waves over recent years as he combines heavy hitting uptempo electronic tracks mixed with live trumpet playing. With hits like “Freaks” and “Mad World”, he has amassed a global following and when seen live, is a nonstop, energy-filled show ripe with live instrumentation. I’ve really loved seeing more and more musicians bring live instrumentation into their production and performances and I’m excited to see it continue.

That same weekend also brings Wuki to Marquee on March 18. Wuki is one of the weirdest and most enjoyable performers to see live. He has no limit of super unique and interesting mashups and custom edits he’s made to mix tracks one would never think of together. One of my recent favorites by him is “We Like to Wuki” which is a mix between “Club Action (Smookie Illson Remix)” and “We Like to Party” by the Vengaboys (famous for being used in a Six Flags commercial back in the day). Wuki is also a great set for someone who might not be sure if they’re fully invested into EDM yet as they would hear songs they recognize but with a twist. He doesn’t take music too seriously and that’s part of the fun in it.

However, there are also some other notable mentions making stops in NYC. Subdocta will be performing at the Monarch Theater Restaurant in Williamsburg and bringing his wonky bass for all to bask in. Stooki Sound, an OG in the trap scene, known for deep lows and carefully crafted sound design, will be hitting the Brooklyn Monarch. And lastly, an unlikely duo between Party Favor and Nitti Gritti, Sidepiece will be stopping by Brooklyn Steel to bring their house vibes straight to your doorstep. So many great shows and so little time.

Time to share the love on some new music. This may not be a new song per say, but it’s one that hit especially hard listening to. “Loud” by up and comer Pax Impera brings the heat. It starts off with some intro bass sounds and trap vocals and then quickly

gets you to the point. The drop has tight and crisp lows that are about as low as you can get while still hearing them and mixes back in the trap vocals at times. The sound design on this one is crazy and will give you that bass face all throughout the track.

Now, I’m sure you’re already all over this one, but the legend himself, Skrillex, just recently dropped two albums in the span of 24 hours. He released “Quest For Fire” on a Friday and then during his MSG set with Fred again... and Four Tet, announced the immediate release of his second album “Don’t Get Too Close” from the DAMN STAGE. I hope you realize how insane that is. Only someone like Skrillex can not release an album for almost 10 years and then just casually drop two of them back to back and get the hype going like that.

I’m going to focus on “Quest For Fire” as that one was especially exciting for me. Skrillex does an amazing job of having a captivating and varied album with no specific genre label attached to it. It’s got a little bit of house, trap, dubstep, and bass.

“RATATA” features Missy Elliot and samples some lyrics from her 2000s hit “Work It” and features some 16-bit style synth sounds and a bumping drop. “Leave Me Like This” features some ambient vocals with a driving house beat and still hits while also feeling chill. One of my favorites has to be “Rumble” featuring the likes of Fred again... and Flowdan.

It’s just got that classic Skrillex sound that is immediately recognizable and definitely brings me back. Another song featuring Flowdan is “Hydrate” with Peekaboo. It’s got a bit of an acid bass sound and the UK vocals really add it the overall feeling. The closer, “Still Here” with Porter Robinson, leaves the listener on a high note and finishes off the album in a refined fashion. But to get the full effect, you’ll have to listen to the whole thing for yourself.

Thanks for tuning in and feel free to reach out to me at richiegtechno@gmail.com with any thoughts. Have a great one and keep raging my friends!

WOMEN WHO ROCK

SHONEN KNIFE “OUR BEST

PLACE”

“Girl Power” was always a rallying cry for legendary Japanese punk band SHONEN KNIFE and in many ways, their 2003 song “GIRL’S ROCK” was an anthem for many women in the punk community. Re-recording their track for their new album OUR BEST PLACE which is released via Good Charamel Records, they have created a lyric video in Japanese (which appears as a bonus track on the CD; the vinyl version has the English version only) which documents the band’s storied history, spanning over four decades of archival photos, videos, album covers, etc.

Their first album in nearly three years since 2019’s acclaimed Sweet Candy Power and tenth full-length for Good Charamel in North America, Our Best Place is brimming with punk-pop flavors that harken the emotions and energy of the band’s early classic albums.

New songs like “Nice Day” and “MUJINTO Rock” are reminiscent of The Jam and Buzzcocks while the eccentricities of “The Story Of Baumkuchen” deliver the playfulness of their early sound with the hard rock influence that they’ve adopted more recently (which can never be completely removed).

OLIVIA JEAN RETURNS WITH RAVING GHOST

Garage rocker Olivia Jean announced her third solo album, Raving Ghost, arriving via Third Man Records on Friday, May 5. Produced by Olivia Jean at Los Angeles’ Valentine Recording Studios and Third Man Recording Studio in her homebase of Nashville, Raving Ghost is heralded by the first single, “Trouble” – a prime showcase for the Detroit-born artist’s explosive guitar work – which is available now at all DSPs and streaming services.

Raving Ghost is an album populated by mysterious characters in various states of danger – cursed lovers, doomed souls, women deliriously haunted by unseen forces. Over the course of its 11 tracks, Olivia Jean amplifies that drama with her melodic take on garage rock, handling each riff with the power and precision she’s previously shown as a member of the Black Belles and as an indemand session/touring musician. Featuring backing is from such top musicians as My Morning Jacket keyboardist Bo Koster, Jellyfish co-founder Roger Joseph Manning Jr, and drummer Carla Azar (T-Bone Burnett, Nikki Lane).

LILY WILLIAMS “WHAT IF I STILL MISS YOU?”

Rising singer-songwriter Lily Williams unveils her new single “What If I Still Miss You?”available now at all DSPs and streaming services via Overall Recordings/Atlantic Records.

First teased with a pair of popular TikTok videos now boasting over 500K views, the emotionally charged track is joined by an official visualizer premiering at YouTube.

What If I Still Miss You?” heralded the arrival of Williams’ label debut project, How The Story Ends, on Friday, March 10th. The project – which sees the British-born, Southern California-based singer-songwriter taking inspiration from influences spanning classic Disney scores, Chet Baker, and The Beach Boys to Sara Bareilles, Laufey, and John Mayer – includes recently released singles, “When All The Love Is Gone” “Let Me Be The One,” and the moving title track, “How The Story Ends,” which is paired with an official music video.

JULIANA TUCKER DEBUT EP

Emerging pop singer and songwriter Juliana Tucker has released her debut EP, The Great Indoors. Juliana has also issued the official music video for new single “Fair Warning.”

The Great Indoors digs deep into raw and honest emotions and what it means to know oneself through the lens of all relationships from romance to friendship. The independent collection beautifully showcases the Los Angeles-born and based artist’s vocal and songwriting talents and is filled with 6 empowering self-reflective anthems: “Alone But Not Lonely,” “Let Me Let Loose,” “Bad Friends” “Breakup High” and the title track “The Great Indoors,” in addition to “Fair Warning.”

ANASTASIA ELLIOT SINGLE

Purple is the color of imagination and creativity and is associated with the transformation of the soul. Purple is bold, unique, independent, and introspective. Purple is a way of life. Embodying these qualities, purple- haired rock goddess Anastasia Elliot is a trailblazer in the Indie Art Rock world as she debuted the latest single “Bones” on February 22nd and accompanying video on March 3rd, from her full length visual album La Petite Mort. “Bones’’ is the fifth single from her DIY, 13- song visual story that began with “Cigarettes & Gasoline,” “Crash Landing,” “London,” and most recently “Masquerade,” that have garnered high praise.

RITA ORA “YOU ONLY LOVE ME”

January 27th marked the dawn of a new era for successful British female artist Rita Ora, as she released her brand new single “You Only Love Me.”

Co-written by Rita, “You Only Love Me” is inspired by her personal experience of feeling vulnerable at the very start of her romantic journey. Underpinned by love and passion the song opens with a voice memo from Taika Waititi. “You Only Love Me.”

“You Only Love Me” is the first track to be lifted from the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album – a deeply personal body of work intrinsically linked to a new chapter in Ora’s life and career. It is also Rita’s first release since inking a partnership with BMG. Rita made her debut performance of the track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon before sitting down to chat on The Drew Barrymore Show the following day.

“FINALLY FRIDAY”

Finally Friday expresses the communal feeling of relief attained by the passage of a trying time and the arrival into a period of repose. This feeling of short-term survival is most often felt at the conclusion of the work week or end of a stressful time. However, for the musician, Friday not only means the completion of the weekdays, but time to hit the stage and experience the release of artistic creation. The anticipation of such an opportunity to not only express but to provide sonic soul food for others is immense. The artist simultaneously gives and receives. That moment of euphoria is Finally Friday.

TRUMPETER TONY KADLECK “SIDES”

Trumpeter/composer/arranger/bandleader/educator Tony Kadleck is one of the most sought-after trumpet players on the New York City scene, and has been for some time. He moved to NYC in 1986, following his studies at the New England Conservatory–and a stint in the trumpet section of The Buddy Rich Big Band. He graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in 1989 and quickly hit the road with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Blood Sweat & Tears, and others. He played on countless jingles, scores for TV and film, and worked with the cream of the crop, including Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Somehow, Kadleck found time in his bustling sideman schedule to arrange nine of his favorite tunes for a star-studded big band recording, titled Sides, featuring Kadleck’s interpretations of Herbie Hancock’s “Driftin’”, Jobim’s “Desafinado”, Bill Withers’ “Use Me”, another Hancock classic, “Dolphin Dance”, one of Joni Mitchell’s biggest hits, “Both Sides, Now”, Paquito D’Rivera’s “One For Tom”, and “Can’t Buy Me Love”, from Lennon/McCartney.

DUKE

ELLINGTON LOVE YOU MADLY

Mercury Studios will release Duke Ellington: Love You Madly/ A Concert of Sacred Music at Grace Cathedral on April 28th. These two Emmy-nominated programs, out of print the past few years, from producer Ralph J. Gleason feature: a 1965 documentary that explores the life and legacy of Ellington, perhaps the greatest single American composer, and the September 1965 commissioned premiere Ellington’s Concert of Sacred Music at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral.

Broadcast over 50 years ago, the Concert showcases choice selections from the maestro’s catalog “Come Sunday,” “Ain’t But the One,” “David Danced Before the Lord With All His Might,” and a tune composed specifically for the church’s consecration, “In the Beginning, God.”

Shot in and around the Bay Area in 1965 and originally broadcast on national US television Love You Madly portrays Ellington in his autumn years, as he prepares for his benchmark Concert of Sacred Music and plays with his band at the Monterey Jazz Festival, at San Francisco’s Basin Street West and recording sessions. We see him playing piano with and conducting his band through selections from his hallowed songbook—which ultimately was the purest expression of his métier.

RARE TRAVIS TRITT ALBUM

On April 28, a rare album recorded over three decades ago by multi-platinum-selling, Grammy award-winning artist Travis Tritt will be released on streaming services worldwide. Featuring 11 songs that deliver the quintessential Travis Tritt sound that drove him to the top of the mainstream, Proud of the Country will be released on digital streaming services for the first time via its original label, Copperhill Records.

Proud of the Country is the record that reportedly landed Tritt his first-ever record deal and marked an integral turning point in his career. Then a 2-side album, Proud of the Country was originally released in 1987 on Copperhill Records, a one-off label used by the recording studio Demo Listen Studio in Marietta, Georgia.

The first track off the album is “Get A Little Rowdy.” The classic country-flavored tune mimics Tritt’s days of playing clubs and small honky tonks.

Proud of the Country is produced by Danny Davenport, Billy Suit, and Tritt himself. Tritt wrote or co-wrote all songs on the album.

RED ROSE SPEEDWAY 50TH ANNIVERSARY

UMe announced the release of Paul McCartney and Wings’ Red Rose Speedway as a limited edition half-speed mastered vinyl LP. The 50th Anniversary pressing will be available from April 22 for Record Store Day 2023, days before the actual anniversary of the album’s original April 30, 1973 release date.

The first Paul McCartney and Wings album to top the US album chart, Red Rose Speedway kicked off a run of #1 albums that included Band On The Run, Venus And Mars, At The Speed Of Sound and Wings Over America. The album’s sole single, “My Love,” was received with similar warmth, becoming Wings’ first #1 single in the US, as well as a staple of Wings and Paul shows for decades to come.

Red Rose Speedway has steadily grown in stature amongst fans, critics and fellow musicians since its release. Album opener “Big Barn Bed” has been cited as one of Paul’s greatest underrated tracks by the likes of Guitar World and Ultimate Classic Rock, while “My Love” has spawned a staggering array of cover versions by artists including Tony Bennett, Brenda Lee, Nancy Wilson, Cass Elliot, Johnny Gill, Cher and many more.

KINKS ANNIVERSARY ANTHOLOGY

The Kinks, one of the greatest ever British rock groups, celebrate their 60th Anniversary in 2023. Formed in 1963 in Muswell Hill, North London, by brothers Ray and Dave Davies with their friend Pete Quaife, and joined by Mick Avory in early 1964, the band quickly established themselves as one of the epoch-defining groups of the 60s, with their impact still being felt around the world today.

The Kinks 60 campaign will be a two-year-long celebration of their illustrious musical journey career, confirming their place as one of the greatest and most influential rock groups of all time. As a key part of the campaign, and to mark this milestone, a career-defining anthology, The Journey, will be released on BMG in two parts, with The Journey - Part 1 released on March 24th.

The songs on The Journey - Part 1 (1964-1975) have been handpicked for the first time by Ray, Dave and Mick, curated according to themes inspired by the trials and tribulations of their journey through life together as a band since 1963. Featured hits include “You Really Got Me,” “Waterloo Sunset,” “All Day And All Of The Night,” “Celluloid Heroes,” “Supersonic Rocket Ship,” “Dead End Street,” and “Death Of A Clown.”

DEPECHE MODE: “GHOSTS AGAIN”

Depeche Mode’s new album, Memento Mori, will be released March 24 via Columbia Records. Memento Mori’s arrival is heralded by the release of first single “Ghosts Again.” “Ghosts Again” is available now across digital platforms, and as an instant grat with pre-saves and pre-orders of Memento Mori - which is available for pre-order now on 2LP vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital.

“Ghosts Again” has been visually interpreted by longtime Depeche Mode collaborator and Memento Mori album cover and artwork designer Anton Corbijn. Memento Mori is Depeche Mode’s 15th studio album and its first as a twopiece lineup of Gahan and Gore, following co-founder Andrew “Fletch” Fletcher’s passing in 2022.

Produced by James Ford, with additional production work by Marta Salogni, Memento Mori’s gestation took place during the early stages of the Covid pandemic, resulting in themes inspired directly by that period. The album’s 12 tracks chart a vast expanse of moods and textures, from its ominous opening to its closing resolve—running the gamut from paranoia and obsession to catharsis and joy, and hitting myriad points between.

PHISH RETURNS TO MSG

Madison Square Garden announced that as part of their summer tour, Phish will return to Madison Square Garden for seven nights on July 28, 29, 30 and August 1, 2, 4 & 5, 2023. The seven shows will represent the jam band’s 73rd-79th lifetime shows at MSG.

Phish has a long history with Madison Square Garden, from their annual New Year’s Eve run to their wildly successful “The Baker’s Dozen” run of 13 shows in the summer of 2017. In celebration of “The Baker’s Dozen,” a banner was raised to The Garden’s rafters where it hangs alongside banners from just two other musical acts – Billy Joel and Harry Styles.

Tickets for all seven Madison Square Garden shows are available for purchase via ticketmaster.com. If tickets remain, they will also be available at the Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and Beacon Theatre box offices.

KIP MOORE “DAMN LOVE”

Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Kip Moore’s fifth studio album DAMN LOVE will be available on April 28th. Over 13 new tracks co-produced by Moore and Jaren Johnston (The Cadillac Three), emotionally raw and thick with epiphany, Moore explores an internal tug of war and puts it simply enough: Damn Love.

The genre-blending songsmith has a history of entrancing audiences around the world with sold-out headlining shows in Australia, South Africa, The U.K., Europe and a slot at Bonnaroo all slated for 2023. Moore holds on to passion in the persistent anthem, “Heart on Fire,” while “Another Night In Knoxville” captures the magnetic draw of the stage – a sweeping ‘70s-rock ballad that soundtracks a long-cherished memory.

Meanwhile the refreshing “Kinda Bar” conjures magic from a roadside tavern, and a comforting sense of clarity arrives with gentle instant classics, “Some Things” and “One Heartbeat” (featuring Ashley McBryde).

WHITNEY HOUSTON GOSPEL SONG

The indomitable voice of Whitney Houston lives on with the release of “He Can Use Me,” the powerful new single from I Go to the Rock: The Gospel Music of Whitney Houston, the new gospel album from the legendary singer.

“He Can Use Me” is early gospel recording by a then 17-year-old Whitney. This 1981 recording reveals how even at an early age, she could sing with emotional conviction, vocal power, range and dexterity — all hallmarks of what she would bring to her later recordings. The song is the second release from I Go to the Rock: The Gospel Music of Whitney Houston, following the premiere earlier this month of “Testimony,” another gospel recording by Whitney.

The new song is one of six never-before-released tracks featured on the album, which is set for release on March 24, 2023 and will be accompanied by a documentary TV special and DVD. The album will be available on CD through Gaither Music Group and on all digital streaming platforms via Arista/ Legacy Recordings.

AMERICAN SONGBOOK: A PLACE YOU BELONG

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ newest American Songbook series, celebrates the sounds and scenes that have made New York City a cultural mecca for generations. This year’s series embodies the spirit of four iconic NYC venues where creativity and discovery flourished—led by artists who could not find creative homes in the City’s larger, more established venues. Midtown’s mambo powerhouse the Palladium Ballroom; Soho’s gay underground dance haven, Paradise Garage; Harlem’s home of Lindy Hop, the Savoy Ballroom; and the West Village cabaret Café Society, one of the first racially integrated nightclubs in North America, are celebrated in a series of shows that pay homage to their rich legacies, while spotlighting modern performers with new takes on now classic sounds.

American Songbook: A Place You Belong kicks off April 1 in David Geffen Hall, NYC’s newest cultural hub, with singer-songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff. This special performance, sees Rateliff and his orchestra perform Harry Nilsson’s 1973 LP of Great American Songbook standards A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night from start to finish, in celebration of the album’s 50th anniversary.
