MIKE NUGENT AT LIMEHOF SHOWCASE

A man of few words who adds spice to every song he plays, whether his original compositions or the many artists who welcomed him on their songs. Mike Nugent is the quintessential artist who transverses multiple genres, from Soul to Rock, and of course, the Blues.

A former Bellerose, Queens native, now residing in Huntington, Mike began his musical career gigging various establishments on Long Island and in the metropolitan New York area. Nugent earned his reputation cutting his teeth from gig to gig and stage to stage, playing with Wes Houston & The All-Star Space Band (1972-1977), The Sheiks Band (1978-79) and The Stanton Anderson Band (1978-79).

In 1989 Mike formed Cadillac Moon and took the band on the road. Their song “Show Me Your Tattoo” was featured in the 1997 movie, The Devil’s Advocate with Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves. Currently Nugent plays with The Walkers and has formed “The Blue Moon Band” to support the release of his latest album, “Everything’s Gonna be OK”. Nugent’s music evokes the emotions of joy and lament. Mike is playing at LIMEHOF, Stony Brook on June 25th.

LOCAL BANDS ON THE ROAD TO MEMPHIS

The Long Island Blues Society recently held a rousing blues challenge at Katie’s of Smithtown that featured Joe Louis and the Groove and Gail Storm rising to the top of a robust competition to represent Long Island in the upcoming International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. Joe Louis and the Groove, the band winner, and solo/duo champ Gail Storm will take on the world this coming January held each year on Beale St., the most iconic strip in the world of Blues. It’s the street where BB King and a host of other famous blues men and women honed their chops.

The winners erupted when they heard their names announced from

the stage on June 3.

“I am thrilled and honored to represent the Long Island Blues Society down in Memphis for the IBC,” said Storm, who wowed the crowd with her New Orleans-influenced set. “This win is especially meaningful for me given the other challenges I had to face this week. I am so appreciative of all the support I have received, and I totally look forward to rockin’ Memphis!”

The local winners will challenge musicians from around the world during the four-day competition at a host of clubs up and down the strip, while blues fans revel in a week devoted to the genre. Recent challenges have featured

acts (and winners) from Europe, South America and as far off as Asia and Australia, proving the blues is alive and well worldwide.

“I am truly blessed to be able to represent the LIBS in Memphis for the 2024 International Blues Challenge,” said Joe Seher, guitar slinger for Joe Louis and the Groove.

“Playing the blues is what I live for, and It means the world to be able to experience this opportunity with my band and everyone else that I love so much around me.”

The other acts that helped make the day a huge success were Big Bad Wolf, the Sammy Louis Band, the Tony Santos Band and the Lenny Michelle Duo.

“The International Blues Challenge represents the worldwide search for blues bands and solo/duo blues performers ready for the international stage, yet just needing that extra big break,” according to the Blues Foundation’s web page.

The Long Island Blues Society and its member bands will be scheduling a number of fund-raisers in the coming months at various sites in Nassau and Suffolk to help our representatives offset travel and lodging costs.

Tony Davenport is the vice president of the Long Island Blues Society. He can be reached at tonyd@libsny. org for more information.

The third week of May has long been “Upfront Week” for the major television networks. The emphasis is normally on primetime scripted shows, but with the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, the attention was primarily on sports. That meant at the Disney Upfront, the lion’s share of the stage time was devoted to ESPN. Serena Williams kicked things off by announcing she is collaborating with the Worldwide Leader in Sports on a multi-part documentary on her life titled “In the Arena: Serena Williams.” It will be modeled after the ESPN “In the Arena” special it did with Tom Brady. The other big ESPN news was former NFL punter and extremely successful podcaster Pat McAfee will be launching an afternoon show on the network. McAfee is known for his ribald sense of humor, bawdy language,

BOWLING

and a knack for attracting hard-to-get athletes to speak candidly, with the most recent being Aaron Rodgers. I asked McAfee if he would be willing to appear on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” now that he is a Disney employee. “There is too much physical work and time commitment to do that show, so I will pass,” he told me. Warner Brothers Discovery used their upfront to promote its Max streaming service, as well as promote a new All Elite Wrestling show which will be airing Saturday nights on TNT called “AEW Collision.” For baby boomers, this is a delightful throwback to youthful days when professional wrestling was a Saturday TV staple. Streaming on Max are a pair of sports documentaries, “38 at the Garden,” and “Angel City.” “38 at the Garden,” which recollects Jeremy Lin’s magical 2012 sea-

son with the Knicks, just won the Sports Emmy for short documentary. It debuted last year at the Tribeca Film Festival. Thirty-eight was Lin’s Knicks uniform number, and it is the number of minutes this doc runs.

“Angel City” tells the story in three episodes of the first season of the National Women’s Soccer League’s Los Angeles franchise which is partially owned by Academy Award-winning actor and Syosset High School alum, Natalie Portman.

The CW, which is under new corporate ownership, is working hard to shed its image as the network aimed at fans of superheroes and teen angst dramas. It had entered the world of sports with its airings of LIV Golf Tournaments, and its recent weekly motor sports show, “100 Days to Indy,” which stars the drivers of the Indy Racing League, and features interviews with part-owner of Rahal Racing, David Letterman.

CBS Sports announced they have hired recently retired QB Matt Ryan to be a studio NFL analyst who will also occasionally be in the booth to help call games. Ryan is best known for being the quarterback on teams which have blown massive leads late in games.

Bryant Gumbel, host of HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” as well as being a television stalwart,

pins. Zamor had the early lead when he started the shootout with a triple, but a string of open frames thwarted his title chances. Ko and Scianna battled it out until the final frame; Ko had a one-pin lead going into the ninth frame. Both bowlers finished with four strikes, giving Ko the championship by the slighest of leads: one pin.

KO SCORES AT LIGBT MAJOR

The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT), sponsored by Storm, presented its annual two-day Memorial Day Weekend House Shot Major at AMF Garden City Lanes, culminating on May 29. Charles Ko of Palisades, NJ, representing the 49-and-under handicap division, defeated Joe Scianna of Ronkonkoma from the 50-and-over handicap division, 246-245. Ko earned $2,000 for the title, with Scianna earning $1,000 for second place. Ko also came in third as the scratch winner, earning an additional $800 with a 244 scratch game. Rounding out the top five: Isaiah Zamor of Hempstead, NY with a 226 worth $600, and Alex Padmore of Jamaica, with a 189 earning him $500. Accoring to LIBGT officials, the final shootout was one of the closest in the organization’s history, as the top three places were separated by only two

The LIGBT Memorial Day Weekend Major saw 284 entries generate a $12,675 prize fund. Seventy-eight bowlers went to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $10,020, bringing the total event payout to $22,695.

The summer LIGBT schedule rolls on, and plans for the fall season are now underway. Get involved with these enjoyable amateur tournaments by logging on to ligbtour.com.

LI’S ZIMMERMAN CAPTURES FIRST PBA TITLE

Deer Park’s Adam Zimmerman scored his first PBA championship by winning the May 27 PBA Colony Park Lanes Challenge Regional in York, PA. It’s the first PBA regional win for the talented 24-year-old, two-handed righty, who formerly excelled as a member of Junior Team USA. Zimmerman, at press time, was ranked 20th in the PBA East Region Standard rankings.

was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Sports Emmy Awards. ESPN’s Ryan Clark, who was a defensive back with various NFL teams, including the Giants, in his thirteen-year NFL career, won the Emmy for Best Studio Analyst. Clark got his broadcasting career started by interning at ESPN between NFL seasons.

NBC Sports “Sunday Night Football” voice Cris Collinsworth attended the 2023 Sports Emmy Awards. I asked Collinsworth, a former All-Pro receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals, and longtime resident of Cincinnati, if he is worried about being pilloried on both social media and sports radio talk show hosts for coming off

as a rooter for his old team now that they are one of the NFL’s elite teams. “Absolutely!” he candidly replied. “The funny thing is I get killed in Cincinnati for not being a homer.” he added.

The face of CBS Sports, Jim Nantz, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Broadcast & Cable Hall of Fame Ceremony last month. Even though he is giving up his broadcasting duties for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Nantz emphasized to me he is not retiring. “I will still be doing NFL and PGA Tour telecasts which will put me on the road for 40 weeks a year. Giving up the NCAA Tournament gives me more time to spend with my family. It will be in good hands with Ian Eagle calling the games.”

The New York Jets acquisition of Aaron Rodgers may not get them into the playoffs, but it has increased their national visibility. Gang Green is slated for a couple of appearances on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” ESPN’s “Monday Night Football,” and CBS’s late Sunday afternoon slot.

Spring pro football leagues, the USFL and XFL had successful runs. The XFL Championship Game last month, which was won by the Arlington Renegades, drew over a million viewers on ABC. The NFL was paying attention to the XFL as its teams signed a few players right after the championship game. The same will happen to the USFL. My biggest knock on the USFL is some of its teams, such as the New Jersey Generals and Philadelphia Stars, never play a home game in the places their team’s name represents. That had better change in 2024.

I asked Mets outfielder Mark Vientos in Spanish if he was ready to be “el salvador” (the savior) of the Mets. He wittily responded, “My family is from Nicaragua, not El Salvador!

ALLMAN BROTHERS SYRIA MOSQUE

The ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND celebrated indie record stores with the exclusive limited release of Syria Mosque: Pittsburgh, PA January 17, 1971. First released in October 2022 on CD and digital via Allman Brothers Band Recording Company, Syria Mosque: Pittsburgh, PA January 17, 1971 is now available as a special numbered limited edition 2-LP package on “Pittsburgh Steel Grey” vinyl (10,000 units).

It is an exquisite package showcasing the band at its best and the variety of songs is dizzying. This is something that every Allman fan must add to their collection.

After Duane’s heartfelt acknowledgment of the band’s debt to opening act Taj Mahal, the show began with “Statesboro Blues,” and the shuffle perfection of this tune set the standard for the rest of the evening. “Trouble No More” slid right along, propelled by the rhythm work of Berry, Jaimoe and Butch, while “Elizabeth Reed” featured an unusually ethereal solo by Dickey before Duane finished it off in incendiary style.

Gregg’s visceral and weary vocals highlighted the autobiographical “Midnight Rider,” before giving way to “You Don’t Love Me,” which was centered around the run-and-gun guitar work of Duane and Dickey.

Per usual, “Whipping Post” served as the set closer, but that was the only normal thing about this 20-minute rendition, as Dickey and Duane erupt in a spontaneous combustion exchange that stretched the song for another six minutes or so.

TAJ MAHAL’S SAVOY

The first 200 copies of the vinyl edition of Savoy have been autographed by Taj Mahal! Available only from the official Stony Plain Records store, order yours to get your hands on this collectors edition.

Taj Mahal can rightfully be called a living legend for his contributions to popular music. With a voice as instantly recognizable as Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, or Johnny Cash, throughout his career Taj has pushed the envelope of American roots music forward by incorporating sounds from the Caribbean, and Africa, traditional blues and jazz. He has won four Grammy Awards from 14 nominations, was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame, and presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association.

Recorded with the hottest musicians in San Francisco, Savoy is a loving throwback to the sounds of the swing jazz big band era, titled as a tribute to Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom where the music composed by the likes of Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, George Gershwin and Louis Armstrong was performed by a who’s who of iconic artists, and now brought back to life by the one and only Taj Mahal.

ELLING AND HUNTER SUPERBLUE

Kurt Elling is renowned worldwide for his unparalleled virtuosity and flair for trailblazing artistic exploration. From his reinvention of timeless standards to his own captivating original songcraft, the Chicago-based musician has fused his dazzling talents across a panoply of musical approaches, emblazoning each with signature imagination, insight, and emotional intelligence. Where many male jazz vocalists at this stage in a much vaunted career have tended to stick to the tried and true, Elling seems to be growing more ambitious and experimental with the passing of time, a tendency evidenced by the new LP.

SuperBlue: The Iridescent Spree sees Elling and Charlie Hunter reunited with drummer Corey Fonville and multi-instrumentalist DJ Harrison (both of jazz-funk fusion quintet Butcher Brown) for a kaleidoscopic collection of new songs, dynamic reinventions, and surprising covers (Joni Mitchell’s “Black Crow,” Bob Dorough’s Schoolhouse Rock standard “Naughty Number Nine,” Ron Sexsmith’s “Right About Now”). Additional colors on the album are provided by flutist Elena Pinderhughes (Carlos Santana, Taylor McFerrin, Josh Groban) and Brooklyn’s Huntertones Horns (Jon Lampley: Trumpet; Dan White: Saxophone & Horn Arrangements; Chris Ott: Trombone).

JAZZ VOCALIST EMMALINE

Making a star turn in her major motion picture debut in Sweetwater, EMMALINE, a singer and songwriter possessing a smoky, jazz-infused, genre-fluid voice” (Broadway World) is very much an artist on the rise. Songs From Sweetwater collects the tracks the 24-year-old vocalist and violinist performs in the film as night club singer Jeanne Staples, including three tracks that appear on the movie’s soundtrack album released on Candid Records in conjunction with the theatrical release.

With a tight jazz ensemble, she delivers gorgeous and faithful versions of classic songs from The Great American Songbook displaying her retro aesthetic. A throwback in the best of all possible ways, Emmaline has been called the modern-day equivalent to your favorite jazz singers of the past, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Blossom Dearie.

PITTSBURGH JAZZ FESTIVAL

Ray Brown, Art Blakey, Billy Eckstine, Fatha Hines, Mary Lou Williams, Ahmad Jamal, Stanley Turrentine, and Erroll Garner are just a few of the greats who answered the Pittsburgh jazz roll call. Through their music, these sons and daughters of Pittsburgh not only spoke the language, but they also re-invented it, refined it, and expanded it through musical conversations across time and place. They understood how the language of jazz connects us, encourages us to remember where we’ve been and where we’re going, and gives voice to our shared community. And, it’s these timeless cross-cultural conversations that will be carried on through the 13th Annual Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival September 14 – 17, 2023.

Tickets are on sale at www.pittsburghjazzfest.org.

It’s a stunning and peaceful refuge, and to the delight of music fans nationwide, there’s also a stage! For over 30 years, festival goers (or “Festivarians’’ as they’ve been dubbed by Planet Bluegrass), have been making the trek to Colorado’s front range for the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival; three days of music, camping, and inspiration from songwriters of all genres.

Planet Bluegrass announced the full lineup for Folks Fest 2023—August 11-13—which includes acts like Texas’s country, blues, and Americana troubadour Charley Crockett, funky New Orleans genre-benders Tank and the Bangas, and Swedish folk balladeer The Tallest Man on Earth. The entire lineup can be found below and at bluegrass.com/folks.

The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriters Showcase is open for submissions. The Songwriter Showcase is Folks Fest’s nationally-recognized singer-songwriter competition, open to anyone who writes and performs original music, and who is not currently signed to a major recording or publishing deal. Contestants are judged on the quality of the song’s composition (50%), vocal delivery (25%), and overall performance (25%). Ten finalists will be selected to receive a 3-day pass to the 2023 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival to compete in a live performance contest for cash and prizes. Online song submissions will be accepted for the 2023 Songwriter Showcase until July 14th and can be submitted by following this link.

Tickets for Rocky Mountain Folks Fest are going fast, but 3-day passes, single-day passes, camping passes, and more are still available for purchase at bluegrass.com/folks.

CLASSIC ROCK

PAUL SIMON SEVEN PSALMS

Paul Simon announced the release of his highly anticipated musical work, Seven Psalms. Intended to be listened to as one continuous piece, the 33-minute, seven-movement composition transcends the concept of the “album” and was released in its entirety on vinyl, CD and across digital platforms on May 19th.

Recorded entirely on acoustic instruments, and predominantly performed by Paul, Seven Psalms showcases Simon’s craft at its finest and most captivating, simply with his voice and guitar

An intricately layered work, it’s a record which establishes an engaging and meditative, almost hymnal soundscape, with Paul’s lyrics providing the gravitational center for constellations of sound woven from guitar strings and other acoustic instrumentation – including choral elements from the highlyregarded British vocal ensemble VOCES8, and a beautiful vocal appearance by Edie Brickell.

The record’s tone is complemented by its artwork, which features a close-up extract of “Two Owls” by the celebrated landscape artist Thomas Moran.

NEAL SCHON JOURNEY THROUGH TIME

Frontiers Music Srl announced the release of Neal Schon’s ‘Journey Through Time’, a live concert recorded on February 9, 2018 at The Independent in San Francisco, CA, on May 19, 2023.

This is the show where Neal Schon, founding member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted band Journey, first debuted ‘Journey Through Time’ along with two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and former Journey and Santana bandmate, Gregg Rolie. Joining Schon and Rolie were current Journey member Deen Castronovo on vocals and drums, Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake) on bass, and John Varn on keyboards and vocals.

Performing to a sold out crowd for a benefit show, the band played songs spanning Journey’s entire catalog, largely focusing on the band’s ‘70s repertoire, including the band’s first three albums, ‘Journey’, ‘Look Into The Future’, and ‘Next’.

Multi-Grammy nominated Schon founded Journey in 1972 and remains the sole consistent member, having participated in every album and tour to date. Before founding Journey, Schon was also a member of Santana and has performed with a variety of other acts including Bad English, Hardline, and HSAS and with Jan Hammer and Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Free).

GENESIS REVISITED: FOXTROT AT FIFTY

Prog rock legend Steve Hackett will be revisiting his stellar work with Genesis when he launches the North American leg of his ‘Genesis Revisited: Foxtrot and Fifty + Hackett Highlights’ tour in the fall (which will be predated by a tour throughout Europe in the spring).

Tickets can be purchased via Hackett’s official site: https://www.hackettsongs.com/news/tour-foxtrot-at-fifty-plus-hackett-highlights.html

“I’m thrilled to be bringing my ‘Genesis Revisited: Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights’ tour to the USA and Canada in the autumn, and very much look forward to seeing you all then!”

The show will feature the 1972 Genesis album ‘Foxtrot’ performed in full, plus additional fan favorites. Long considered one a classic prog releases, ‘Foxtrot’ spawned such all-time great Genesis tracks as “Watcher of the Skies” and the over 20 minute long epic “Supper’s Ready.”

North American fans will get to experience the ‘Genesis Revisited: Foxtrot and Fifty + Hackett Highlights’ tour for themselves! He’ll be appearing October 14th at Town Hall.

As part of this year’s itinerary, the rock & roll powerhouse will be the “special guests” of Kid Rock for two hometown shows in Michigan at Little Caesars Arena on Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15.

STIMMERMAN NEW ALBUM

Stimmerman is the rock band of Eva Lawitts. With deceptively unusual rhythms, colorful and jagged harmonies and clear, repeatable melodies, Stimmerman makes music that feels a little bit like Art-Rock, but with no pretense, or a little bit like grunge, but glasses on. Eva’s mother is a classical oboist, and from a young age intricate baroque melodies floated through their house. From there a childhood love of At the Drive In, Motorhead, and Hendrix, an adolescent love of Mastodon and Eric Dolphy and an adult love of Gillian Welch and Jon Bap, as well as broadly speaking, a love of of all kinds poured into the songs of Stimmerman, which aim to hold a cathartic space for the audience.

At their live shows, Stimmerman deliver on an unpredictable upending of their own songs, weaving improvised sections, dynamic waves and of course, a couple gags through the bones of their songs.

They’re appearing July 13 for a record release show at Purgatory in Brooklyn.

RED MATTER SHINES BRIGHT

Genre bending jam band Red Matter presents their debut studio single and live action video for “LIGHT OF THE MOON” - available now on Spotify, Youtube and all the major music and video services.

While performing nearly two hundred fifty shows across the East Coast over the past several years, the name Red Matter has become synonymous with explosive success. Ask their legion of followers, or better yet, take in a show on any given night; you’ll find sophisticated songwriting with danceable rhythms - full of rollicking extended jams, musical improvisation, visual stimulation, and all-out aural excitement.

With a jam band ethos, appreciation for contemporaries such as Gov’t Mule, Dawes, Goose and Tedeschi Trucks Band, and a nod to the O.G.’s of the genre like Grateful Dead, Phish, Jefferson Airplane and Santana, Red Matter hits all the high notes, fusing elements of rock n roll, blues, Americana, and psychedelia creating a truly versatile, eclectic style.

ANNIKA SOCOLOFSKY “DON’T SAY A WORD”

On June 23rd, Annika Socolofsky, a composer and avant-folk vocalist who explores colorful corners of the human voice – tones and timbres and techniques often dismissed as “untrained” or “unclassical” – releases “Don’t say a word”, an album of feminist rager-lullabies for the new queer era.

Socolofsky released the Xuan-produced video for “Like a Diamond,” a textual mashup of the oft-forgotten second verse of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and the traditional Welsh hymn “Ar Hyd y Nos/All Through the Night,” written in memory of Socolofsky’s late Great Aunt Edie.

After years of being othered, Socolofsky ushered her anger into “Don’t say a word”. Through the process, the composer found love again — love for the disenfranchised child inside, and for her family – both given and chosen – who have been there for her. While searching for her lost love, Socolofsky also ransacked, reappropriated, and retold some of society’s most-loved lullabies.

In this raging rebellion against once-soothing words, Socolofsky wrote “Don’t say a word”, eight new lullabies for her adult self, cradle songs that assert love long muffled: self-love, queer love, love for her temper and tongue, and love for those who have lighted her way.

Summertime is here and I hope you’re getting ready for all of the amazing concerts and activities to come in NYC. There’s some great shows coming through that you’ll definitely want to check out.

First up we have DJ_Dave playing at Elsewhere in Brooklyn on June 15. I first found DJ_Dave at Electric Forest in 2022 and she blew me away. DJ_Dave has a very fun and energetic style of music with an emphasis on house. However, there’s something extra unique about her performances; she writes computer code live to affect the music that’s being played. On the visual display behind the DJ, computer code can be seen and is edited live. I wish I knew how it all worked, but the concept itself is very interesting and the most unique thing I’ve seen a DJ do. This gives the show a bit of a cool tech feel to it as DJ_Dave modulates the computer code to modulate the music. She is a force to be reckoned with and this will be one of those memorable experiences you just have to see for yourself.

Another unique experience to check out is on June 24 on Circle Line Cruises. House duo Ship Wrek will be performing on a literal ship. That’s good branding if I’ve ever seen it. Ship Wrek always throws down an exciting show with high energy house music and all around good vibes. The fact that they’re doing this set on a boat is even that much cooler. I mean, is there any reason you wouldn’t go see this? If you want that vibe but get a little too seasick, you can stop by The Brooklyn Mirage on July 2 to check out the master himself, James Hype. James Hype has been growing rapidly in the US and one of the key aspects of his performance is his ability to do complex mixing live. He will often post videos of himself mixing several songs together and really showcases his talents as a DJ. He’s not just standing up there and pressing play; his performances are truly live and packed full of talent. He

knows how to get a party started and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. If you’re looking for something a bit

parts of the song. This album goes hard and I can’t wait to see Tvboo throw down some of this album live.

If you’re looking for something a bit more vibey, Griz just released a remix of John Summit’s “Where You Are” and it’s got all of the future bass goodness packed into a top tier produced song. With vocals by Hayla, this track truly transports you to a different world and leaves nothing to be desired. It’s just that good and is also a bit of a departure from Griz’s normal style. But I

love seeing artists changing up what kind of music they make and exploring different parts of the scene. That’s what making music is all about and I see a budding friendship between John Summit and Griz. Who knows, maybe we’ll see a back to back set from them soon.

Thanks for tuning in this month and hope to see you out there in the streets of New York. Feel free to reach out at richiegtechno@gmail.com! And remember, keep raging my friends.

heavier, look no further than July 6 at the Brooklyn Mirage. Black Tiger Sex Machine will be going on tour and is joined by Veil, Kai Wachi, and Ruvlo. This is an all star lineup if I’ve ever seen one. This show is going to be filled with all of the dubstep and deep bass one could hope for. That, mixed with Brooklyn Mirage’s new 180 degree visual screen, will be a show that will knock you down with every drop. Veil and Ruvlo are newer in the scene, but they bring the heat and I can tell they’re going to blow up sooner rather than later.

Tvboo has been on a tear lately and there has been nothing stopping this man from releasing some of the wonkiest and heaviest music out there on the market. He recently released his Honkers EP which is a collaborative EP with Space Wizard, Shanghai Doom, Sodown, and DirtySnatcha. This album has got everything I could’ve hope for, from some funky elements, bass down low, and unique sound design. It’s always fun listening to collaborations and hearing artists specific styles shine through in various

WOMEN WHO ROCK

The extended LP marks the latest addition to Daisy Jones & The Six’s growing catalog, which has amassed over 150 million global streams across platforms.

which marks her first new English language studio recording since 1997 and the triumphant reunion with the incomparable songwriter Diane Warren.

Produced by Mati Gavriel, Kismet is released on Warren’s label imprint RAF through BMG and in addition to “Big Big Love” features the brand new tracks, “If U Go” (the EP’s focus track), “Deeper Into You,” “I Couldn’t Do That To Me,” and “Sanity”.

Kismet is available now on CD and across all streaming platforms/digital services.

Discussing working with Belinda Carlisle again Diane Warren commented, “I’m so excited for everyone to hear Belinda’s new record. She’s never sounded better. It’s so great to be working together again after all these years. From “I Get Weak” and now to “Big Big Love,” a new chapter has begun. I can’t wait for everyone to hear these new hits!”

ANNA TIVEL NEW SINGLE

Portland, Oregon-based artist Anna Tivel has shared a new single called “The Good Fight” from the same recording sessions as her 2022 full-length, Outsiders. Of the track, she offers, “It’s a song about our mad forward-fueled grasping at some kind of arrival, success, validation, understanding. So much of living is spent in a hopeful future gaze, but the destination won’t keep still and we forever reach for new and different truths as we stumble and grow.”

The new song arrives while Tivel is finishing up a tour supporting Fenne Lily and Christian Lee Hutson with remaining shows in Vancouver, Salt Lake City, and Denver. She will continue touring throughout this summer including shows with Joe Pug and Jeffrey Martin.

Outsiders is available for purchase on CD and LP via Tivel’s Bandcamp page and can be heard everywhere you stream music.

BECKY HILL “SIDE EFFECTS”

Two-time BRIT Award winner Becky Hill returns with “Side Effects,” her first new solo song in over a year. Hill’s powerful, soulful vocals shine on the infectious track as she examines the “side effects” of a past relationship that thwart her efforts to move on. Becky wrote and releases “Side Effects” with friend and key collaborator, Lewis Thompson with whom she has a prolific creative partnership (the pair previously co-writing Becky’s huge hit with David Guetta “Remember” and “Crazy What Love Can Do” also with David Guetta and Ella Henderson) plus producer Jon Shave and longterm collaborators, Karen Poole and MNEK, who also provides backing vocals.

“I haven’t released a solo record in over a year, so coming out the door after a second BRIT win feels very exciting!” says Becky Hill. “I’m playing the UK’s best festivals this year and I can’t wait for people to have a new song to sing along with me.”

The official video, which was directed by KC Locke (David Guetta, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy), follows Hill on an epic journey of escape from the lingering side effects of a toxic relationship. Hill will be playing numerous summer festivals, including Outside Lands.

Belinda and Diane first collaborated in 1987 for Belinda’s second solo album Heaven on Earth, which featured the Diane Warren penned songs, “I Get Weak” and “World Without You,” and also the anthemic, “Heaven Is A Place On Earth,” the track that shot to the top of the charts all over the world and established Belinda Carlisle as a global star.

DAISY JONES & THE SIX RELEASE AURORA

Atlantic Records released Aurora (Deluxe) the extended debut from Daisy Jones & The Six. The 20-track LP includes all 11 original album cuts, plus recent standalone singles – acoustic demo of “The River” and renditions of “Look At Us Now (Honeycomb)” and “The River (ft. Simone Jackson)” –both Live from Soldier Field – 1977.

Co-written and produced by GRAMMY-winning songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Blake Mills (Bob Dylan, Fiona Apple, Alabama Shakes, John Legend, Perfume Genius), Aurora (Deluxe) arrives following demand from fans for new music – a demand which has only continued to grow since the Prime Video Original Series’ final episodes aired in late March.

IDINA MENZEL DRAMA QUEEN

Multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter and Tony Award-winning performer, Idina Menzel, released a brand new single “Move” from her upcoming dance project, Drama Queen.

Produced by Chantry Johnson and Mitch Allan, Menzel said about the upcoming project: “I am a Drama Queen…I’m dramatic and emotional and passionate. I love the stage and the spotlight. I love the attention and the roar of an audience. I have big feelings. I sing my ass off through tears of joy, heartbreak, anger, and sadness. This project is the most fun I’ve ever had writing and recording an album. I want everyone to move and sing with me and embrace their inner Drama Queen.”

Menzel’s upcoming dance project Drama Queen, scheduled for release August 18 via BMG, showcases her powerhouse vocals through soaring anthems, disco-infused beats, and just the right amount of drama. Menzel worked alongside global hitmakers Nile Rodgers, Jake Shears, Justin Tranter, Sir Nolan, Simon Wilcox, Laura Veltz, Jim Eliot, Maty Noyes, Mitch-Allan, Lindy Robbins, Chantry Johnson, Michelle Zarlenga and more to create a body of work that is a departure from what she’s put out in the past.

TOBY KEITH AMERICA EP

Singer, songwriter and entertainer

Toby Keith has been at the top of a lot of lists during his career, and with July 4 approaching, his music is sure to feature prominently on radio and personal playlists. To that end, Universal Music Group released the six-song America EP around themes Keith holds dear.

Concurrently, all six songs are included in a staggering number of new gold & platinum single certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Twenty certifications across 17 titles confirm the ongoing appeal of Keith’s music.

Of the 17 songs certified, 15 were written by Keith with five of those as solowrites. Keith wrote or co-wrote all six songs on the America EP. Stream America at https://tobykeith.lnk.to/America

T.G.SHEPPARD’S NOTHIN’ ON BUT THE RADIO

Country music’s icon T.G. Sheppard brings his 1997 album, ‘Nothin’ On But The Radio,’ to streaming services for the first time ever. Throughout his career, Sheppard had assembled a collection of songs he loved and always hoped to record, holding on to some for quite a while, by his own admission. By 1997, he finally had the opportunity to record them, resulting in ‘Nothin’ On But The Radio.’

T.G. Sheppard continues to experience a huge surge in his career with “The T.G. Sheppard Show” on SiriusXM Radio’s Prime Country Channel. His latest album release, ‘Midnight In Memphis’ (produced by T.G. Sheppard and Buddy Hyatt), featured the single “I Wanna Live Like Elvis” which embraced not only Sheppard’s close friendship with the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, but the world’s infatuation and love for the iconic figure. Midnight In Memphis is Sheppard’s first country solo project in over two decades that offers a wide array of songs about love and heartbreak.

GRACE LEER’S

“MY MIND’S MADE UP”

Emerging artist Grace Leer is back with new music and it could be her best song yet if the fan reaction is any indicator. “My Mind’s Made Up,” written by Leer, Nick Wayne and Dan Agee, is the epitome of what country music is all about – a story sung in a way so real, about something so real, that nearly everyone can relate. There’s nothing harder to do than admitting being wrong about a partner and the hardest person to admit that to is yourself, yet Leer details it eloquently. Growing up on artists like The Chicks and Martina McBride, Leer’s storytelling is impeccable.

Grace Leer is a California native that began singing at the age of six. Instead of skipping college, Leer followed her athletic passion by playing D1 soccer at the University of California, Berkeley. She made the move to Nashville four years ago and appeared in the Top 10 on Season 18 of ABC’s American Idol. Since then, Leer has secured a record deal via 19 Recordings, Inc. and has spent the last year writing and recording music for her self-titled debut EP, available now. Leer recently performed the National Anthem at the SheBelieves Cup in Nashville at Geodis Park.

THE SCORPIONS COLOURS OF ROCK

Saying that the Scorpions can look back on an eventful history as a band would be an understatement. Their spectacular story is now becoming a new and very colourful experience: With Scorpions – Colours of Rock, BMG is announcing the reissue of five album highlights by the legendary German hard rock band – now appearing on coloured vinyl. Alongside versions of Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance and Virgin Killer, remastered for the first time ever, are further handpicked treasures including Tokyo Tapes and Taken By Force.

The reissued albums can be pre-ordered on https://Scorpions.lnk.to/ColoursOfRock and will be released on June 16, 2023.

`A particular treat for hard-core Scorpions fans, of course, must definitely be the four albums remastered for the first time in history:

“Fly To The Rainbow” (1974) already showed strong hard rock influences and already foreshadowed where the band would later go musically. “In Trance” (1975) was the Scorpions’ first work recorded together with producer Dieter Dierks. With their shortest album, the 35-minute “Virgin Killer” (1976), the band moved another step away from psychedelic influences and towards hard rock.

TESLA FULL THROTTLE LIVE

TESLA released their highly anticipated live album May 26th.The album includes “Time To Rock” plus others recorded in Sturgihttps://lnk.to/tesla_fullthrottlelive

TESLA is a notorious band for one thing; being a high-energy, 100% live, kick-ass rock and roll band in concert! FULL THROTTLE LIVE captures this essence from a stop at the Sturgis Bike Rally in 2022 Independently recorded, mixed, and produced by bassist Brian Wheat and guitarist Frank Hannon, this new live album captures TESLA in honest form and even dives deeper into their roots by recording a live version of the 1974 Aerosmith classic “SOS Too Bad” as a bonus track.

“MILES AWAY” is the lead-off single release from TESLA’s new live album FULL THROTTLE LIVE! The guys chose to put this song out first because it represents TESLA and the new live album’s harder heavier sound. “MILES AWAY” is a fan favorite in concert with its heavy 6/8 rolling groove and blistering guitar solo.

DETHKLOK’S THE DETHALBUM

WaterTower Music announced the digital release of the 24-song The Dethalbum (Expanded Edition) with music by DETHKLOK, the on-screen band from Adult Swim’s favorite heavy metal adventure “Metalocalypse”. The Dethalbum (Expanded Edition) gives fans the opportunity to stream the original 15-track album along with 9 additional harder-tofind tracks previously unavailable on all the digital platforms.

The album release is the perfect primer for all of the exciting “Metalocalypse” and DETHKLOK

happenings this year: A national DETHKLOK co-headlining tour with Japanese kawaii metal pioneers BABYMETAL, a full-length original film, written and directed by Brendon Small, “Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar,” and the release of two albums: a companion soundtrack and “Dethalbum IV”.

BRIAN MAY + FRIENDS STAR FLEET PROJECT

When Queen took a break for the first part of 1983, Brian May put his time to good use. Waking up one morning in Los Angeles, he decided to phone a few friends and invite them to collaborate on some tracks in California’s famous Record Plant studios. The resulting collaboration was a great success, and Brian would later mold the recordings into a unique mini-album, Brian May + Friends: Star Fleet Project.

This third release in the “Brian May Gold Series” offers an extensively revisited and expanded box set edition of these legendary sessions. The set is a complete document of the two days, April 21 and 22, 1983 that May spent in the Record Plant, Los Angeles accompanied by top rock music luminaries Edward Van Halen (guitar), Alan Gratzer (drums), Phil Chen (bass) and Fred Mandel (keyboards). The box set includes a spectacular 23-track CD filled with previously unreleased material.

Containing two CDs, one vinyl LP, and a vinyl single, as well as other collector’s items, Brian May + Friends: Star Fleet Sessions will be launched as a Deluxe Edition box set, worldwide on July 14th.

BLEECKER STREET TAPES: ECHOES OF GREENWICH VILLAGE

Trouser Press Books announced The Bleecker Street Tapes: Echoes Of Greenwich Village, a new collection of profiles and essays by veteran music journalist Bruce Pollock.

From the coffeehouses of Greenwich Village to the stage at Woodstock, folksingers became a powerful cultural force in the 1960s. Mixing music and politics, tradition and innovation, romance and righteousness, these men and women were outspoken voices for their generation, each with a story to tell.

Now, more than a half-century later, The Bleecker Street Tapes sees Bruce Pollock, a Village resident and clubgoer during folk’s heyday, expertly capturing the extraordinary life and times of these legendary artists through insightful interviews and contemporary appraisals of such icons as Leonard Cohen, Loudon Wainwright III, Roger McGuinn, The Roches, Dave Van Ronk, Suzanne Vega, John Sebastian, Phil Ochs, Peter Tork, Maria Muldaur, Richie Havens, Janis Ian, Harry Chapin, Melanie, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Don McLean, Peter, Paul & Mary, Tuli Kupferberg, Eric Andersen, and more.
