What is graphic design? I'm often posed with the question "What is graphic design?" I typically struggled to conjure a solid answer that would be understood by a person not directly involved in the profession. My response was poorly formulated and unclear. Aware that an ambiguous idea equals disaster for any graphic artist, I knew that I needed to develop a solid explanation. The question has been asked numerous times throughout graphic design's relatively short history. There is no single answer, of course, and the exact definition of graphic design is highly debated and subjective. I do think it is possible to distill a few points that everyone can agree on. Here, I'll discuss some ideas and pose answers that suit my personal outlook.

Anti-fur Report I'm still blown away when I see people wearing fur. It's inconceivable to me that some people can be so ignorant or indifferent to animal suffering. Fur belongs on its original owner! Here are some staggering stats regarding the number of animals it 'takes' to make a coat. Some fur comes from animals caught in horrific traps. Leghold, Conibear traps and snares are non-selective devices, which means that there are many 'non intended' animals who get caught in these barbaric contraptions. These traps are banned in 88 countries, but leghold traps are still widely used in the United States and Canada. We're definitely a nation behind the times in this case! Legholds are spring-loaded steel jaws that clamp shut on an animal's foot once it's sprung. It causes injuries and loss of circulation. Conibear traps are square or rectangular "scissor-action" traps in which an animal passing through the middle is caught as the two sides are snapped together. Snares are wire strangulation noose that tightens around an animal's neck or body. It is usually used on fences to hang animals or under water to drown animals. There is no other description for these than barbaric! When the animal finally is killed, it's not quick and painless. The trapper's main priority is the fur, so the objective is to kill the animal without damaging the fur, which can lead to especially cruel methods. Here's a trapper standing on a coyote's neck in order to suffocate the poor animal. This is sickening..and it must stop. 5/6

About Vinnies The St Vincent de Paul Society's 40,000 members and volunteers work hard to assist people in need and combat social injustice across Australia. Internationally, the Society operates in 148 countries and has over 950,000 members. Members of the Society are people who live out their faith in action by visiting people in their homes to provide support, friendship and material assistance. This practice is known as home visitation, and is carried out by local St Vincent de Paul Society conferences. Conferences are typically Parish or school based groups of people who respond to calls for assistance from people in the local community and work closely with the Society's Vinnies Centres. People who are being assisted by conference members are often provided with furniture, clothing and household goods free of charge through the Society's Vinnies Centres. Centres also offer affordable clothing and goods to the wider community. The profit from the sale of stock from the Vinnies Centres is used to provide resources and support to people in need. For over 150 years, home visitation has been the core work of the Society. By visiting people in their homes, the St Vincent de Paul Society aims to help men, women and families to break their cycle of poverty and disadvantas.

More than making things pretty The essence of graphic design is problem solving. Designers can act as interpreters and sources of inspiration, leading clients and the public forward to new ways of seeing. We play politician and diplomat, working to get large groups of people with different agendas to come to a consensus. For some, we can be a trusted confidant and shoulder to cry on. As a designer, the ability to listen is a critical skill. We must be able to deliver what our clients want and need, and to balance egos and agendas, all while remaining loyal to our craft, our best practices, and the direction that will get to the best solution. We need to see through the smokescreen and deliver the best work advice to our client, as dictated by their unique problem. We do this regardless of what we think they need. We look deeper, and listen to the problem. We let the problem itself reveal to us what the design needs. The best designers tell the truth, even when it hurts.

Changing perceptions When we say we graphic design, what we really mean is communication—primarily visual communication. However, as times change, designers are often called to bring more than their aesthetic skills to the table. Evolving technologies and desktop publishing have all but vanquished the days of producing paste-ups, mechanicals and photo-ready work. Graphic designers offer planning and organizational skills, our resources, our creativity (made up of equal parts experience, style and opinion), and our technical expertise. Clients themselves are more savvy and possess refined tastes, and they insist on a design team that can do more than simply make something look pretty. Because of this trend, we are afforded a unique opportunity. Designers can step in with their imagination and critical thinking skills, and help push ideas further along the path of innovation.

Speech Competition Banner I worked 5 weeks in Iae Edu Net, which is a intermediary located in Australia Fair, and I really learned many personal skills in this place such as self-introduction of my audition, co-operation with my workmates, and process of doing works. Through working here for 5 weeks, my working experience was enriched like my original plan. In addition, I hope to learn more skills and experience in next 4 weeks. Iae Edu Net’s audition is the first audition in my life. My boss Mr. Paul Kwon asked some questions about my major and the job I wanted. After that, He told me I will join in a marketing group to do a case of “Gold Coast English Speech Competition”. My part of this work is design some campaign materiels like logo, banner, poster, certificate, invitation card and website for it. 52/53

Typography design "Column width is really important," says Luke Hayman from Pentagram. "Consider how the typography is set, and the text size. You can get away with smaller fonts for a younger audience, for example with youth magazines like Maxim, but consider something like The New Yorker, which is exquisitely designed typographically - it uses quite a large font because you're reading multi-thousandword articles."

The value of good design Good design adds value to any organization, business or service. A fine logotype can change how your company is perceived, and boost its public perception both internally and in the public eye. A well-designed and easily navigable website enhances customer experience by making it simple for them to find the information they need. Clearly organized signage in an airport or museum can streamline what might otherwise have been a taxing experience, transforming it into a journey of discovery. The design interface of ballots and voting booths are the cornerstones of a fair democratic process. In short, design is much more than the way things look. Design informs the quality of our experience, the depth of our understanding, and the identity of our institutions.

Typographic for Screen Design is a strong original creativity course. Especially the Font Design. Font Design not only introduces ways of doing font, but also it means different font should suitable to diverse scenes all along. After introduced my inspiration of my font, the process of doing it and the conceptual ideas will be followed in this essay. In the beginning of font design part, I had no idea about it except learned use Typo Tool 3 step by step. Then, I did some research of different kinds of animations online. I fount most of animations just use some suitable font on their posters. They do not have their own style font on subtitle and characters introduction. They usually use some general font such as ‘Tahoma’ and ‘Comic Sans MS’. Therefore, I decided to design a kind of font which is matched to a animation. In consideration of a popular animation which is named‘ The Croods’, it is a clear style animation and it describe a group of crazy primitive people’s story. In this animation, these primitive family live in a cave, there are a lot of stones around them. According to the research, in that era,,people used some simple graphic to express and record things( image1). This kind of word is called‘wedge shaped plate’. In view of my font should be cutey, because ‘The Croods’ is a comedy animation, and the characters looks kind and funny. However, ‘wedge shaped plate’ looks thin and sharp. So I changed something of ‘wedge shaped plate’like the corner of font.

Marketing Strategy of ‘floridy’ Every brand owns a special sales method, a good marketing strategy plays an essential role of improving sales volume and brand awareness. To be a new brand, ‘Floridy’ has its marketing strategy as well. In this essay, through introduced some details of ‘Floridy’, its marketing strategy which included advertisement strategy, talent show competition strategy, discount and membership card strategy will be followed. In my opinion, a new brand should take when develop in the marketing strategy is making sure that I have a strong understanding of my target audience. Without this, it is easy to create messaging that does not address the custom’s actual needs. This is a challenge of every new brand. ‘Floridy’ target audience are young girls who age between 13 to 18. These girls usually like cute items and most of them have no salary. Their main financial resources come from their parents. Therefore, compare with other boutiques, products’ prices of ‘Floridy’ are cheaper. All of the products’s prices are between $8.99 to $29.99. I think most of them are able to pay money for these products. There are two main sale ways of ‘Floridy’, one is saling online, another is saling in a solid store. Both webpage and stores’ style are similar with their productions, and all the productions mark clearly the prices of the commodities. Going to the solid store buy some items

Obviously, solid store suit to the people who live not far from the store and pass by the store. Furthermore, people can log in and shopping on www. floridy .com.au. After filling in online shopping list and details, ‘Floridy’ staffs will post them to customs as soon as possible. The items will be packaged in a black carton with its special logo, on one side of the carton, buyer’s details and order number will be printed there. To some extent, popularity of a brand decided the brand’s sales volume. So, advertisings are very necessary for ‘Floridy’. In consideration of a new brand,‘Floridy’ adopt two main pattern to advertise. One is using some free famous website to improve popularity of this new brand, another is being a sponsor to hold an competition. As we known, Facebook and twitter are very popular in youth. They are good news communication tool and the most important point is they are free. ‘Floridy’ will create an account to add some young girls, after they saw the logo of ‘Floridy’ , they will click its homepage, then, they can see diverse productions with bright color, and online shopping webpage is beside those productions.
In addition, ‘Floridy’ will hold an competition about talent show of teenagers. To be the sponsor, ‘Floridy’ will provide show area, drinks, publicity advertisement, certifications and prizes. Before this ‘Floridy Cup Teenager Talent show Competition’, teenagers who want to join the competition will be collected in different junior high schools. These teenagers should wear with ‘Floridy’s logo T-shirt, and winner can get some free ‘Floridy’ products. In other words, this competition is a way to advertise the now brand in teenagers. Branding is crucial for productions and services sold in hug consumer markets. It brings this brand competitive position and value proposition to life. Being a new brand, in order to promote consumption, ‘Floridy’ will give 5% to 10% off for all the products both in solid store and online shop. Those free advertising will notice young girls on Facebook and twitter. Furthermore, ‘Floridy’ devote itself to hold the clients as well. The top 200 customer can get free membership card. This membership card holder will get i5% off of items, and full of $200 of one membership card, they can get a free gift of ‘Floridy’. In conclusion, marketing strategy is necessary for a new brand. ‘Floridy’ is a young style brand and it target audience is younger girls. Through the free online advertising strategy, teenagers talent competition strategy, discount strategy and membership card strategy, this new brand will open its market and welcome its customer quickly.
