Preface

Welcome to Famous Design ! My goal in this book is to provide a guide for people who wish to design excellent artworks. I cover both famous designers and their famous works. I assume familiarity with design, but no prior exposure to parallel computing.

Introduction

T h i s book presents a broad introduction to design theory and practice. Historical, contextual, philosophical, technical, visual and practical approaches to Design are often presented separately. But each approach impacts on others and together they are critical to a rounded understanding of design. Beautiful Thing presents a clear synthesis of these approaches, explaining all the basic concepts and allowing the reader to connect the different elements of Design. Both lively and accessible, the book takes the reader step by step through the key topics of taste, design evolution, composition, colour, drawing, communication and expression. Superbly illustrated, the book includes a range of detailed design case studies. In addition, theory boxes, placed at intervals, summarize necessary but complex ideas. A Glossary and Guides to Further Reading are also included. The book will be invaluable as a broad introduction for students of all branches of Design.

9

Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose.

Junaida & Nagai Hideyuki

Junaida's illustration for children

P

ainter Junaida was borned in 1978 in Japan. He is a famous illustration master. His artwork "Childhood" is very popular in Asian Countries. He had a lot of exhibitions. During the 15th century, books illustrated with woodcut illustrations became available. The main processes used for reproduction of illustrations during the 16th and 17th centuries were engraving and etching. At the end of the 18th century, lithography allowed even better illustrations to be reproduced. The most notable illustrator of this epoch was William Blake who rendered his illustrations in the medium of relief etching. Today, there is a growing interest in collecting and admiring original artwork that was used as illustrations in books, magazines, posters, blogs, etc. Various museum exhibitions, magazines and art galleries have devoted space to the illustrators of the past.

Nagai Hideyuki' s 3D illustration

22

J

apanese artist Nagai Hideyuki produces some of the most remarkably convincing three-dimensional drawings that look like they’re jumping off the page. The young illustrator ’s masterpieces are playful anamorphic illusions featuring Hideyuki’s creative cast of characters popping out to interact with our world. The artist’s impressive creations are especially effective in their sculptural appearance due to the clever perpendicular positioning of two sketchpads. It adds a visual believability to the artist’s optical illusions that rely heavily on perspective. Each illustration is more mind-blowing than the last.

GAKU DESIGN

Food Packaging

28

P

ackaging is more than protection for the products; it is also the bridge between the goods and its viewers. Product branding is mainly based upon beautiful food packaging design to attract organic customer's attention. A sense-oriented design plays an important role in the cognitive and sensory process of human beings. Food packaging may seem simple at first: show what’s inside the packet, add a bit of marketing speak, job done. But aside from the usual design considerations of target audiences and the like, there are many more things to consider.
