It’s Back—Project Plant-It Save the galaxy, plant a tree! The entire month of April is dedicated to you—earth’s defenders—who save the world. From Arbor Day to Earth Day, you can celebrate both by planting new trees and keeping our planet healthy. Both experienced earth defenders and new ones can join us in the fight for change. Join us for this council-wide service project this April to protect our planet Earth! Girls will earn a custom Project Plant-It patch to show how they changed the world. How do you earn the patch? It’s simple—plant a tree! While you can participate in this as an individual or as a troop, we recommend at least one tree for every five girls. After planting a tree, submit a photo to the Project Plant-It Report Form and your patch will be sent to the address provided. Project Plant-It will run the whole month of April, kicking off on April 1 and ending on April 30. So during the month of April, save the galaxy, plant a tree, and earn this patch!

Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge Summer is the perfect time to explore the outdoors. She can visit a state park, hike a trail, or plant a tree! Whatever outdoor activity she chooses—she’s invited to take the challenge, the Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge! It’s simple. All Girl Scouts have to do is complete the number of activities required for their grade level and they can unlock a cool, new patch! Make sure to connect with us on email, social, and our website for more information on how she can take the challenge this summer! Outdoor Skills Patch Program This patch program is a progressive, six-level program to help Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors learn and become proficient in outdoor skills. Through this patch program, girls explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. The program is intended to supplement the existing Girl Scout program. It is not meant to replace working on Journeys, badges, or outdoor programming at camp. Once you have completed the requirements for a level, you can purchase the main patch and level patch, online, via email, or from a retail Pop-Up Shop near you!

Ranger Program Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland

National Park Service and Girl Scouts have partnered to create the Girl Scout Ranger Program to help you earn this awesome patch! Check out how to earn this patch below or at www.nps.gov.
Girl Scouts has joined forces with the National Park Service to launch the Girl Scout Ranger Program, giving girls everywhere access to monuments, seashores, urban sites, and so much more. The program is filled with opportunity for unique park experiences, awesome service and education projects, and even cool badges and patches to earn. There are five easy steps to the Girl Scout Ranger Program. 1. Choose a National Park Service. Visit www. nps.gov and choose a national park or a monument. Explore nature, learn the history, and read the stories to discover why it is important to preserve your park. Consider exploring regionally local sites like Fort Scott, George Washington Carver, Ozark National Scenic Riverways, Trail of Tears, and Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. 2. Imagine yourself in a National Park. Brainstorm activities that you might want to experience at a national park. Consider working outside with a geologist or inside identifying fossils. Maybe wildfire restoration, building a bridge, or doing a night sky project would interest you!
3. Contact the park and plan. Call the park and identify yourself as a Girl Scout. Ask if there is someone who works with the Girl Scout Ranger Program or a volunteer coordinator. Express your ideas to the coordinator. Together, plan a project to help the park and fulfill your goals. 4. Go to the park and have fun! If your park does not have a volunteer program or is too far away to visit, create a Take Action Project. 5. Share the experience. Share your best shots on Instagram and Twitter using #gsoutdoors (don’t forget to tag @GirlScouts) and you can be part of the largest Girl Scout photo collage in the world.

Destinations Girl Scout destinations are for any girls 11 and older who want to go where they’ve never gone before. With a variety of different trips to apply for every year— like surfing camp on the east coast and breathtaking hikes out west—there’s a dream destination for every Girl Scout. How Does it Work? 1. Visit girlscouts.org/destinations. Note: It is best to check out the following year’s trips in August or September to apply during the Early Enrollment Period. Girls can enroll at any time throughout the year on a rolling basis with limited spots available. 2. Girls choose up to four trips that spark their “wow!” 3. Girls submit their application. 4. Girls will then receive responses from trip sponsors and can select their Destination! 5. Girls confirm participation and pay the deposit to hold their spot. 6. Leading up to the Destination, girls will gather information from their trip sponsor, and get ready and excited for their trip. Girls will make friends from all over the country as they travel with Girl Scouts from different states, see and learn new things, and pack their bags full of inspiring, life-changing experiences and memories. Did you know? Girls can use their Cookie Program Credit earned during the Cookie Program and put it towards their travels. Cookie Program Credit payments can be made toward all GSUSA Destinations and GSMH-Sponsored EF Tours trips. That means that selling cookies could get you to your next adventure! To make a Cookie Program Credit payment for a trip contact us at info@girlscoutsmoheartland.org or 877-312-4764 and include the following information: traveler name, trip title (EF Tour or Destination), month of trip, year of trip, Cookie Program Credit card number, and amount you would like to apply towards the trip.

A Letter From the Camp Director Hello adventurers! My name is Emmi in the common world and Turtle in the magical world of camp. My camp name Turtle is inspired by my collection of turtle stuffed animals and figurines big enough to fill a bathtub! I attended Girl Scout Camp for the first time when I was nine years old and fell in love immediately. After my first year, I was hooked and attended camp every year until I grew out of my camper shoes and became a camp counselor. Even when I wasn’t at camp, I always found myself on outdoor adventures. I have a bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Psychology and have loved working with
foster organizations and children with special needs for the past several years. Currently, I share my magic with the world through poems, stories, goofy smiles, and awkward dancing. I love singing songs with my Girl Scout sisters, especially favorites like “The Day I Went to Sea” and “Daisies in the Sun.” Hobo packs and dough boys are my go-to campfire foods. My favorite color is every shade of yellow and my favorite part of nature is the stars. I also really enjoy friendship bracelets, hugs, and high ropes adventures. “Magic is believing in yourself. If you can do that, you can make anything happen.”

Troop Camping Troops can plan their own outdoor getaways for a day, overnight, or weekend at one of our program centers or any approved non-GSMH site. When they go troop camping and decide the trails they want to trek—they take ownership of their outdoor skills! Here’s what you need to know before your troop camping adventure: • A camping experience of less than one week in duration that takes place within GSMH boundaries is considered troop camping. • Overnight camping at a GSMH Program Center requires at least one official adult volunteer per unit that is certified in GSMH outdoor level 2 training. Another adult volunteer must be certified in CPR and First Aid. • Troops must obtain approval from GSMH before camping on non-GSMH sites, except for overnight backyard camping. Backyard camping does not require approval. Troops can use the Outdoor Experiences on Request to add even more adventure to their camping experience at any of our four program centers.

Offering More Adventures There are outdoor adventures everywhere across Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland—and we are searching for outdoor program partners to provide them. If your Girl Scout can dream it, we want to provide it! From horseback riding to kayaking—our outdoor program partners are here to help her jump, dive, or climb right in! What does partnering with us mean? It means a business or organization aligns with our mission and agrees to our: •
•
Safety standards—our priority is keeping our girls safe. That’s why each partner will be evaluated to make sure they follow our guidelines. High adventure partners will have an on-site visit from Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland staff. Program priorities—the Outdoors, STEM, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship: that’s what Girl Scouts is all about! Partners are provided with information on relevant badgework and will align activities to make sure she’s getting the most out of her time with them.
•
•
Community Centric Service Model—we’re looking for partners that are in it for the long haul. Your girl has made a commitment to Girl Scouts, she deserves program partners who commit to her! We’re building lasting, sustainable relationships with our partners so troops, girls, and families can benefit from their expertise again and again. Girl Scout values—we ask our members to live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law and expect our partners to do the same. That means they’ve agreed to be welcoming to every Girl Scout and her family.
We need you—the community members—to let us know about businesses and organizations in your community that can offer big, bold adventures (or already have) to our Girl Scouts. From right around the corner to deep in the woods—we want to know which businesses and organizations have helped your Girl Scouts get outdoors!

Summer Camp Details
Cancellations and Refunds A $40 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration for any camp session. Each camp session has a minimum number of campers required. If the minimum number of campers is not met, the session will be canceled. Campers will then have the opportunity to move their registration to another session, if possible. The $40 non-refundable deposit will be refunded if a camp session is canceled by GSMH and the camper cannot attend another session, or if a camper is unable to attend their session due to health. If a camper fails the health screening upon arrival at camp, they will not be able to attend that session. Every effort will be made to place her in another camp session later. If this is not possible, a refund will be granted—less the $40 non-refundable deposit. A refund will not be issued for cancellations made less than two weeks before their camp session, for no-shows, or if a camper leaves a session already in progress due to homesickness, behavioral issues, or parental request. More details about cancellations, refunds, and camp health screenings can be found in the Summer Camp Family Handbook found on our website. Families should read this prior to registering their camper. Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland

Camp Health and Safety Our goal is to continue to offer a traditional camp experience while staying safe this summer. We will continue to monitor the pandemic as we get closer to summer camp. There will be modifications made to camp as needed, including possible COVID-19 modifications, such as wearing masks and participating in cohorts. Check-In and Check-Out Process We ask that all campers and staff members arrive to camp healthy, well, and ready for adventure! Our new-last-year check-in process is part of our health and safety practices. Check-in will be a drive-thru experience where campers will be driven through stations for health screening and luggage drop-off before saying a quick goodbye in the car and hopping out to join in on the fun! For check-out, families will pick-up their camper, camper’s luggage, and any memorabilia from camp (arts and crafts, trading post items, etc.) after they enjoy a closing ceremony performed by their camper.
Health History and Health Screening We require the completion of a pre-camp Health History Form from each camper. We have a digital form for you to complete before arrival at camp. This will allow our Camp Health Team to review the information ahead of time, making the check-in process even more efficient. At health screening, our Camp Health Team members will take the camper’s temperature and inspect your camper for visible symptoms of COVID-19 in addition to typical health screening measures. Camp Modifications Our goal is to offer a traditional camp experience while staying safe this summer. There may be modifications made to resident camp that could include cohorting, face masks, symptom screening, and modified sleeping and eating arrangements. Complete health and safety procedures will be released at a later date and as needed. This will include our response plan and procedures should suspected or confirmed communicable disease cases occur at camp. More information is available in our Summer Camp Family Handbook located on our website.
