Troop Camping Troops can plan their own outdoor getaways for a day, overnight, or weekend at one of our program centers or any approved non-GSMH site. When they go troop camping and decide the trails they want to trek—they take ownership of their outdoor skills! Here’s what you need to know before your troop camping adventure: • A camping experience of less than one week in duration that takes place within GSMH boundaries is considered troop camping. • Overnight camping at a GSMH Program Center requires at least one official adult volunteer per unit that is certified in GSMH outdoor level 2 training. Another adult volunteer must be certified in CPR and First Aid. • Troops must obtain approval from GSMH before camping on non-GSMH sites, except for overnight backyard camping. Backyard camping does not require approval. Troops can use the Outdoor Experiences on Request to add even more adventure to their camping experience at any of our four program centers.
