The fertile waters of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula are one of the best areas for fishing tarpon, bonefish, besides the hard-to-catch-permits and large snooks. The crystal-clear water reminds the more experienced fisherman of the classic flats of the Florida Keys, Biscayne Bay, or the Bahamas. This beautiful unspoiled area is rich not only in fish, but in lush wildlife and also flora. Several species of birds, turtles and two species of crocodiles live along the coast. Furthermore, this is one of the few areas with a truly important history. It is here, more than anywhere else, that one can combine quality fishing with top rate tourist-cultural trips. Our guide took us to Tulum, Palenque and other very interesting tourist spots full of mystery and charm. In ancient times, Tulum was in fact the only Mayan city located on the coast and served as an important maritime and land hub for trade. The very origin of the name of the city is linked to the Mayan word, "wall." Tulum is in fact one of the few Mayan cities to have a fortification consisting of surrounding walls. La nostra guida ci ha portato e vedere Tulum, Palenque e altre zone turistiche molto interessanti, luoghi pieni di mistero e fascino. Tulum, anticamente, era infatti l’unica città Maya situata sulla costa e fungeva da importante snodo marittimo e terrestre per il commercio. L’origine stessa del nome della città si collega alla parola maya “muro”. Tulum è infatti una delle poche città maya ad avere una fortificazione costituita da mura di cinta. The area covers about 2.5 km², but it is estimated that less than 10% of the total area that reached the city has been explored, as many structures still remain covered by the forest. At this point the wives could be satisfied. Now it was our turn. The proximity of these places to our lodge was incredible. We then headed south towards Punta Allen in Tiziano's posada, for a week of bonefish fishing. I often think of bonefish as the saviour of any saltwater fishing

È un sito di medie dimensioni, più piccolo rispetto ad altri siti famosi come Tikal e Copán, ma contiene alcune delle più belle opere di architettura e scultura che i Maya abbiano prodotto. L'area abbraccia circa 2,5 km², ma si stima che si sia esplorato meno del 10% della superficie totale che raggiunse la città, in quanto ancora moltissime strutture rimangono coperte dalla foresta. E’ incredibile la vicinanza da questi luoghi al lodge in cui siamo diretti, in direzione sud verso Punta Allen nella posada di Tiziano per una settimana di pesca al bonefish. Penso spesso al

destination, both for their quantity and their willingness to take the bait. I don't want this to diminish its value, but I believe that bonefish is the best product for medium-level saltwater trips …… so perfect for me. Mexico has a good reputation for bonefish fishing for both the quality of the fish and the beautiful setting in which they are caught. In fact, only in a few places in the world can it happen that you see a large turtle or a majestic stingray passing while you are wade fishing near the mangroves. A few months after the trip, what has remained for me is the memory of the funny catches, excellent food, and total relaxation, together with a cultural experience that is difficult to find elsewhere.

bonefish come al salvatore di qualsiasi destinazione di pesca in acqua salata, sia per la loro quantità, sia per la disponibilità ad abboccare a qualsiasi esca. Non voglio con questo sminuirne il valore, ma credo che il bonefish sia il prodotto migliore per i viaggi in acqua salata di medio livello… quindi perfetto per me. Il Messico ha una buona reputazione per la pesca al bonefish sia per la qualità dei pesci sia per lo splendido contesto in cui vengono pescati. In pochi luoghi al mondo infatti può accadere di vedere passare una grossa tartatuga o una maestosa razza mentre si sta pescando in wading vicino alle mangrovie. Dopo alcuni mesi dalla fine del viaggio, mi rimane il ricordo delle catture divertenti, del cibo ottimo e del relax totale insieme ad un’ esperienza culturale difficilmente riscontrabile altrove.
