The Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano/Bozen is partner of South Tyrol’s economy and an important service provider for it. As the competent contact for South Tyrol’s companies the Chamber of Commerce offers help with economic research, training and further education, innovation and company development, register of companies, settlement of disputes, corporate crisis, bankruptcy, etc. Furthermore the Chamber of Commerce organises events, gives talks on economic topics and promotes cooperation and networking between companies. The Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano/Bozen is an important partner for the South Tyrolean economy. The duties and responsibilities of the Chamber of Commerce include counselling public service decision makers, economic research, promotion of the economy and provision of economicoriented services for local companies, as well as implementation of its sovereign functions. There is a strong emphasis on the autonomy of the Chamber of Commerce. The economy itself determines the structure of the organs and through these organs its programme of activity. Promoting the economy is an important function of the Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano/Bozen. It is geared to the needs of South Tyrol’s companies and includes the sectors of Training and Further Education, Company Development, Business Start-up and Transfer, Innovation Service and Business Cooperation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Corporate Crisis and Bankruptcy. Another important sphere of activity of the Chamber of Commerce is economic research and monitoring. Based on objective information, it draws up economic studies and analyses that allow a factual and professional discussion of economic policy to take place in South Tyrol. The Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano/Bozen also exercises official functions. These include maintaining a register of companies and lists of business professions, the registration of patents and trademarks, the legal metrology and complying with regulations in the environmental sector, as well as issuing documents for foreign trade. 4

Your Partner for strengthening the Position of Women in Business

It is a central aim of the Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano/ Bozen to enhance the role of women in the economy. The initiative Woman in Business is addressed to female entrepreneurs and freelancers, self-employed women and women in managerial positions. The Chamber of Commerce wants to take concrete action through information, training and advice in order to encourage women to become self-employed or to take on leadership roles. In 2011 the Advisory board for the promotion of female entrepreneurship was established. This internal committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano/Bozen is formed by a female representative of every organisation in the Chamber Council and the female members of the Chamber Board. The committee is a platform that promotes dialogue among the sectors and policies that enhance the position of women in the economy. The main objectives: - Strengthen the role of women in the economy - Support female entrepreneurship - Create specific financing possibilities - Promote family-friendly businesses - Promote the establishment of women’s businesses - Promote women as members of administrative boards - Promote exchanging experience through business networking - Organise further education and events, including the Woman in Business initiative. 12

Your Partner for the History of Commerce in Bolzano

The historical site of the Mercantile Magistrate in between via dei Portici and via Argentieri in Bolzano was built in the early 18th century and embraces the significant trade relations in the city Bolzano at that time. In 1851 the Mercantile Magistrate became the Chamber of Commerce. The Mercantile Museum was founded in 1997 and allows the many visitors to catch a glimpse of the history of trade in South Tyrol’s capital city.
