onoco Reels and Plugs, a division of Sonoco (NYSE:SON), one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, will be this year’s Presenting Sponsor and Gold Stage Sponsor at the Hartselle Depot Days Festival. Hartselle’s largest industrial employer, Sonoco Reels has been a fixture in and supporter of the community dating back to 1958 when local entrepreneur Raymon Baker founded Baker Industries. An unbridled philanthropist, Baker believed in supporting his community. The people of Sonoco have nurtured that commitment since they acquired the company in 1980. “Our products are only as good as the people who create them,” said Dave Winebarger, Vice President and General Manager of Sonoco Reels in Hartselle. “We know that supporting the community in which our most valuable assets reside is an investment in the qual-

ity of our future as much as theirs.” Sonoco employs roughly 300 people in the Hartselle area and tens of thousands of workers worldwide. “Our businesses across the globe support some of the world’s best-known brands, but everything we make is produced by real, talented people just like the staff right here in Hartselle,” remarked Sherry Floyd, Recruiting and Talent Development Manager at Sonoco Reels. “Our reels are engineered and manufactured to solve the many challenges that wire and cable makers face as their customers fulfill requirements in all kinds of industries. Our need for a stable, well educated, trained and talented workforce is vital to the long-term survival of our division and our corporation.” That’s why Sonoco supports community involvement so strongly. The company has partnered with Hartselle High School’s
Tiger Launch program, giving students the opportunity to examine a career in technical manufacturing and introduce them to global technical and business support. What is designed and produced in Hartselle supports companies in telecommunications, commercial and industrial construction, power transmission/control/ distribution, oil/gas/marine applications and just about any industry that uses wire, cable, fiber optics, tubing, rope or other corded material.
Sonoco also supports the Alabama FAME workforce development program as well as Hartselle City School Events for Barkley Bridge Elementary and Cullman County High School Vocational Programs. “All over the world, people are enriching their lives and their communities because local business facilities can offer gainful, rewarding employment, Floyd said. “With Sonoco they have the opportunity to advance to any career level they hope to achieve.”
About Sonoco Founded in 1899, Sonoco (NYSE: SON) is a global provider of a variety of consumer packaging, industrial products, protective packaging, and displays and packaging supply chain services. s the 28th annual Depot Days Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show nears, we are excited at the number of calls we are getting from clubs across north Alabama, southern Tennessee and other neighboring states who are planning to attend. We are looking forward to having more vehicles than ever before. Our goal is to fill every street behind the barricades and overflow down Hickory Street and across the tracks. Moss Audio will provide the sound system and lots of great music throughout the day. As in the past, in lieu of judging, we will have plenty of great door prizes. Everyone can be a winner. Come one - come all. All vehicles are welcome.

tors are also planned. They will compete in a contest to see who can get the closest to a stationary barrel from a specified distance without contacting it. Whether still in use, or only for show, all model tractors from 1923 through 1962 are eligible to be registered. Exhibitors are also eligible to win door prizes.
he Huntsville Community Drumline offers an extracurricular option for youth to be involved in a positive community based activity. In addition to teaching drumming, a craft that will help participants compete for college scholarships, we focus on the development of self respect, respect for others, discipline and pride in our community. They will begin strolling and playing down Main Street at 10:00 a.m. and continue through the festival till about noon.

Hartselle Half Marathon – 13.1
he Hartselle Half Marathon is held annually on the morning of Hartselle Depot Days. The race is in it’s 6th year and hosted by the Hartselle Kiwanis Club. A premier regional event, it has attracted runners from as far away as India and is traditionally populated with runners from across multiple states. All proceeds from the event are used to grant scholarships to graduating Seniors, support special needs sports programs, local reading initiative and multiple area children and schools. The course for this race follows an extensive loop that starts and finishes at the beautiful Quail Creek Golf Resort and Convention Center. Located just on the outskirts of Hartselle, Quail Creek is quietly tucked away in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is one of North Alabama’s best kept secrets. Runners will follow a route that winds through the rural and picturesque countryside of Morgan County. The course features nice fast flats with a few gentle
