Annual Down Memory Lane program to feature public safety through the years own Memory Lane is taking time during this year’s Depot Days festival to look back at the history of Hartselle’s police and fire departments. Lee Y. Greene, member of the Hartselle Historical Society, said the research for this year’s Down Memory Lane has been rewarding, especially for both departments. “The police and fire department don’t have much of their history recorded,” Greene said. “They’ve been especially receptive and helpful because they’ve been wanting to learn more about their history and compile more of their history. They’ve been great to work with.” Greene said the fire and police departments have been a part of Hartselle since its early days. Records have shown that there has been a police force in Hartselle as early as the late 1800s. As a part of the project, the historical society has been trying to track down a list of all of the Hartselle Police and Fire chiefs. They have identified many of them, but they are still researching their information to see if there were more through the years.

In addition to that, Greene This image shows Hartsaid the program will focus selle Police Department Chief W.L. We’ll talk about how improvements in technology changed over the years and what were the major turning points in the history of the departments. “The Hartselle Police Department has thieves and criminals out of our town Greene also asked if anyone had for many years,” Greene photos or information about the Hartselle added. “The police department will have police and fire departments to contact the a display of some of their crime-fighting Hartselle Historical Society. The script was written By Martine Bates Sharp with Rachel McKelvy and John Ballew. The play focuses on the Great Hartselle Bank Robbery September 2013

of 1926. It began in the early morning hours of March 15, 1926, when 15 men arrived at Hartselle’s telephone exchange. Using a handsaw, the men cut the three cables that linked Hartselle to the outside world. It took eight nitroglycerin blasts to open the vault. The town was held hostage for the next four hours, as the men took cash, gold bars, and some silver coins. The bandits got away with over $15,000 and

were never caught. Cast members include: Sonja McKelvy Steve Sandlin Dusty Keel John Ballew David Amos Lou Woods Michael Ballew Brent Maze Corey Doshier Jeff McMinnemon Jonathan Bragwell Sarah Bragwell

Antique Tractor and Gasoline Engine Show

O

ur Antique tractor show gives Depot Days attendees the opportunity to view as many as 75 antique farm tractors and watch them perform competitively in several games on Saturday Sept 21st, according to show director Truman Bridges. The popular event will be staged on South Sparkman Street and the parking area adjacent to the Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buzzy’s Jewelry is a Tractor Show Sponsor. Rain or shine we expect to have good participation from tractor owners and exhibitors from the four-county area of Morgan, Lawrence, Madison, and Cullman. Tractor games for the children to participate in are always part of a good ole time. Several demonstrations and games involving the exhibitors and their tractors are also planned. They

will able to compete in a contest to see who can get the closest to a stationary barrel from a specified distance without making contact with it. Whether

still in use, or only for show, all model tractors from 1923 through 1962 are eligible to be registered. Exhibitors are also eligible to win door prizes.

NEW Entertainment Opportunities This year’s entertainment lineup is awesome!! Great performers from around our area are coming to perform for you. We have a great lineup of music this year on The Hartselle Enquirer Stage. You won’t want to miss a moment so come on down and plan to spend the day.

Paige continues to use her voice to share a musical message for the members of Crosspoint Church. Paige is a Registered Nurse and is an advocate for Diabetes Education and The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She is married to Cole Barnes and is mom to Matthew 11 and Kate 3.

Barnstormers

Barnstormers, is the long-time collaboration between singer/songwriter Ronnie Moore with multi-instrumentalist and producer Chris Wilson featuring a revolving cast of musicians. They are accompanied by Ronnie’s younger brother, Daniel on bass and Nate Emery on drums. In 2007, the band released their first independent album entitled “Switchblade Serenades” and on November 28, 2009 they released their sophomore album “Graveyard Town”. Both albums are available on iTunes. Though dark, ominous, theatrical and often misunderstood, the Barnstormers have a very fulfilling, genuine style that mixes tongue-in-cheek humor with heart-wrenching grief, colorful discontent with brush strokes of sorrow.

Jeff Whitlow & The Old Barn Band

Jeff Whitlow & The Old Barn Band plays the older classic country hits you “Don’t” hear on new country radio anymore. Songs by Merle Haggard, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, Vern Gosdin, and many more. You will leave our show with tired hands and feet, from toe tapping and hand clapping!!! We have played many different venues as headliners, and have been the opening acts for many different artist, such as Charlie Daniels, George Jones, Larry Gatlin, Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw, Sugarland, Jeff Bates, Mark Wills, Daryle Singletary, Delbert McClinton, and others. www.jeffwhitlowcountry.com

Lisa Edmonds

Lisa Edmonds is a preacher’s daughter and a preacher’s wife. I have been in church all my life and I have sung since I was 7 yrs of age. I don’t know anything any different other than being in church all the time. I also sing on my praise team at Vinemont Church of God.

Paige Barnes

Paige Barnes is a Decatur wife and mother who has been singing since she was old enough to hold a hairbrush up to her mouth as her microphone. Her love for music has won her several top talent show honors and also helped her capture the judges attention at the Miss Tennessee pageant.
