Parks and Recreation are Essential Parks and Recreation played a critical role in helping the residents of Haverford Township stay safe, healthy and connected with each other during the pandemic. In addition to the huge number of people taking advantage of our trails and open spaces, we adapted to the circumstances to provide the following services to our residents. Provided online fitness classes for the last 16 months. Hosted over 30 volunteer workdays and planted over 300 trees on our trails and along our streams to allow residents to get outside and be stewards of our open spaces. Utilizing our park pavilions for outdoor fitness classes, adult school classes, and family and sports team gatherings. Hosted library programming and concerts at our parks. Continued improving our Parks with an ambitious capital campaign. Developed Sensory Trail Walks and a group workout program safe for young adults of all abilities with the help of volunteer buddies.

Capital Projects

The value we as a community put on parks, recreation and open space is reflected in the Board of Commissioners funding over 2.5 million dollars of park capital projects over the last three years. Below you will see pictures of some of those recent projects. Left is the new basketball court at Merwood Park. Right is an example of new benches at the parks. Below is the ribbon cutting of the new turf field.
