Welcome Message from the School Adminl Dear Students, Parents, and Friends of Holy Child Educational Center, Inc. (HCECi): It is with enthusiasm and gladness that we welcome all of you to the start of school year 2014-2015! The first few days of school are truly a new beginning in the eyes of the HCECians. Classmates are anxious to make new friends, learn new lessons, and participate in the many school activities available. The school, on the other hand, is ready to try great, new ideas that will make learning more interesting and enjoyable. Everyone is ready to make the most out of new challenges and new experiences. This school year, HCECi is embracing some administrative, academic and student-related changes following last year’s external evaluation by the administration, faculty, students and parents. These changes confirmed what everyone at our school has always known : our teachers and staff are committed to providing an excellent education with high standards, and that our focus is, indeed, on learning - which reflects the strength and commitment of the entire school community to excellence. Our students and pupils are the reason we are here and they are the reason we can never be satisfied by the status quo. What do they need for their future? As an institution, we are fully committed to creating relevant opportunities for our students to reach their full potential in a safe and secure environment. With some innovations and proposals from the administration and positive response from the parents, as well as revised and updated K TO 12 and HCECi curricula for all preschool, grade school and high school classes, our school is perfectly prepared for building competent students that are life- long learners, creative and critical thinkers, effective communicators and productive, responsible citizens. To accomplish this mission, we depend on the team effort created between the parents and the school. We recognize the sacrifices so many of you make to provide this opportunity for your children. Indeed, our success in ensuring that your children receive all that they need, both academically and personally, is dependent on the teamwork we engender between home and school. Let’s work together to make this school year a rewarding and joyous experience for one PB Vol. 9,  Issue No. 1 HCECi – San Jose, Iriga City and all.

ACADEMIC POLICIES & HIGHLIGHTS Academic Theme

21ST CENTURY SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FOR GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS OF EVERY HCECIAN UNDER K TO 12 CURRICULUM Does HCECi truly empower the HCECians to lead a decent, meaningful and collaborative life? YES! With the onset of the implementation of K + 12 Curriculum and program in the Public School System, HCECi, as a private institution and as still under the supervision of DepEd, has been implementing the curriculum and program for two years now. Through the pro-active participation of the school and home connection, K + 12 curriculum has a place in HCECi especially in terms of age requirement, curriculum and duration. That is why we, at HCECi, are responding to this very challenging educational reform of the government through the Department of Education.  Salient features, details and FAQs (frequently-asked questions)  regarding K to 12 will be discussed tomorrow, Saturday, June 28, 2014 during the GENERAL PARENTS’ ORIENTATION PROGRAM at the HCECi Multi-Purpose Center (MPC). In HCECi, we will strive to attain that our graduates will possess the 21 st Century Skills who are holisticallydeveloped Filipinos: 1. Acquire mastery of basic competencies; 2. Be emotionally mature; 3. Be socially aware, pro-active, involved in public and civic affairs; 4. Be adequately prepared for the world of work or entrepreneurship or higher education; 5. Be legally employable with potential for better earnings; and, 6. Be globally competitive. PB Vol. 9, Issue No. 1

Hence, the following ACADEMIC PROGRAMS will be implemented this school year to support the Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum:  ENGLISH and MATH

 Inclusion of English and Math SRA programs as venues for students to practice independent reading and solving wordproblem skills. a. Reading SRA (Science Research Associates). This program is aimed to enhance the reading skills of pupils at their own pace. b. Math SRA. This program is meant to complement the skills and concepts learned in Mathematics. This serves as enrichment and remedial exercises for pupils in their varied needs.  MUSIC,

ARTS, PHYSICAL EDUCATION and HEALTH for GRADES 1-3, and 7-10.

 The

Mother Tongue as a

separate subject using the Filipino Language and as medium of instruction in some subjects in Grades 1, 2 and 3.

WRITING – DRP – JOURNAL WRITING

 STRUCTURED

 Pupils do their assigned task – writing exercises using their Writing Book, journal writing using their Journal or English Notebook, reading and comprehension activities using their DRP Book, and supervised Homeroom activities under the supervision of the assigned teachers.  CURRICULAR PROGRAM

 The Junior High School Department is a BusinessScience High School with an expanded curriculum in Science and Math. The following are added to the usual subjects in the Junior High School  Business Program. This aims at developing the entrepreneurial skills of the students.  Business-Advanced English.  Business-Advanced Math.

HCECi – San Jose, Iriga City

 INDIVIDUAL TUTORIAL

 Pupils who need extra academic assistance will be recommended for tutorial. Parents may also voluntarily enroll their child in the program. Application for enrollment in this program is coursed through the Office of the Admission/School Registrar. No teacher shall tutor his/her own pupils and no parents can choose their teacher-tutor. Please refer to the guidelines of this program in this issue.  Performance

Task BasedAssessments that will assess students’ understanding on the key concepts in language, and math.

 PERFORMANCE TASK

ASSESSMENT  HCECi is into AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT of the learners’ understanding through the Performance Task Assessment or PTA.  The usual paper-and-pen test has no room for HCECians during the PTA week.  This measures the mastery of skills and competencies by performing a task assigned to the learners by their teachers.  This PTA, as a form of evaluating the pupils, has three important elements namely the goal, the role and the output.  The goal and the role will be the instruments for the learners to display their skills which will produce an output. PTA is a kind of evaluation that measures the diverse competencies of pupils through a non paper-and-pen test. The tasks can be oral, visual, or kinesthetic in nature which will require them to show their level of learning and understanding. It can be done individually or by groups. This is given every other month. PTA/Term Exams First P.T.A. 1st Term Exams Second P.T.A. 2nd Term Exams Third P.T.A. 3rd Term Exams Fourth P.T.A. Semi-Finals Compre (G.6/4.Y) Compre (Other L)

To our dear Parents: It is with great pleasure that we welcome your child to his/her class. We can all look forward to very exciting and rewarding experiences as the school year progresses. We firmly believe that life-long success depends on self-discipline. In order to provide our pupils with the excellent educational climate they deserve, the class advisers, together with their pupils, have developed the abovementioned the CLASS RULES of CONDUCT that affords our pupils the opportunity to manage their own behavior. Hence, this Discipline Plan will be in effect at all times. To encourage our pupils to follow the classroom rules, we will reinforce appropriate behavior with praises, art activity, extra free time, class party, rewards, line-up first, movie viewing among others and these will be given as the case may be. And if your child breaks a rule, disciplineconsequences will also be enforced. Our students will be informed about the classroom discipline plan (Class Rules of Conduct) but we would appreciate it if you would review the plan with your child, then sign and return the form below.
