Class Council Organization Officers (CCO) ACADEMIC POLICIES To Attend Leadership Training Seminar PERFORMANCE TASK ASSESSMENT (P.T.A) Workshop and Planning Sessions HCECi is into AUTHENTIC RATIONALE In support of Holy Child Educational Center, Incorporated’s program under the umbrella of the individual’s total personality development, the Office of the Student Affairs resolved to present an avenue for young leaders from different grade levels to come together, get better acquainted and hopefully share concerns for the betterment of the HCEC community. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES The HCEC Young Leaders’ Congress aims to prepare the elected CLASS COUNCIL ORGANIZATION OFFICERS, for the challenges they will face during the school year. Specifically , it aims to:

1. Be specific in praising your children. The best way to motivate a child to good behaviour is to develop a plan to reinforce or reward the good actions we want to see. Praise and attention are powerful motivators. Children learn that they will get noticed and praised when they behave well which, in turn, strengthens their good behaviour patterns.

Don’t just say, “You were good today.” Find specific incidents that define good behaviour for your children. “You played nicely with your sister and took turns” and “Thank you for remembering to pick up your toys” describe the behavior you want and expect from your children. Defining good behaviour helps them understand the

ASSESSMENT of the learners’ understanding through the Performance Task Assessment or PTA. The usual paperand-pen test has no room for HCECians during the PTA week. PTA measures the mastery of skills and competencies by performing a task assigned to the learners by their teachers. This PTA, as a form of evaluating the pupils, has three important elements namely the goal, the role and the output. The goal and the role will be the instruments for the learners to display their skills which will produce an output. PTA is a kind of evaluation that measures the diverse competencies of pupils through a non paper-and-pen test. The tasks can be oral, visual, or kinesthetic in nature which will require them to show their level of learning and understanding. It can be done individually or by groups. This is given every other month.

July 16, 17, 18, 2014 is P.T.A. WEEK -------------------------------------

From Parenting Corner… goal

2. Offer occasional rewards. There is a difference between reward and bribery. Reward is offered when you catch him doing something good, after the good deed is completed. “You didn’t run up and down the aisles in the store today; I think I’ll buy you some candy.” Bribery occurs before the fact: “If you’re good in the store today, I’ll buy you some candy.” Reward helps the child be self- motivated to do well. 3. Utilize self-fulfilling prophesy. Children become what you tell them they are. If you tell her she’s kind, she’ll more than likely try to be kind. And, if you tell her she’s a brat, she will prove you right. (http : //www.keepkidshealthy.com/parenting_tips/discipline/catch_your_child.html)

Securing the

HERO Recently , I came across a song “Hero” which was sung, if I’m not mistaken, by Mariah Carey. The lyrics are beautiful and meaningful. Let’s analyze the song by line. “There’s a hero, if you look inside your heart, You don’t have to be afraid of what you are. There’s an answer, if you reach within your soul, And the sorrow that you know will melt away.” Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines a hero as “a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities” (page 566). We don’t have to die like Dr. Jose Rizal to be called a hero. Heroism lies in achievements and qualities. And we send our children to school so that they can perform well and be righteous. Heroism lies in each one of us. Hopefully, the Holy Child Educational Center, Inc. can train our children to achieve and do noble deeds. “And then a hero comes along with the strength to carry on, And you cast your fears aside and you know you can survive, So when you feel like hope is gone, Look inside you and be strong, And you finally see the truth, that a hero lies in you.” The way to heroism, to perfection and good qualities is not an easy path. There are trials and adversities along the way. And we must ever be prepared for these. Heroism is likewise mentioned in Sacred Scripture – “You are the light of the world. You are the salt of the earth. A light is not placed below but placed up where it can shine If you lose your saltness (your asim), how can your saltness be felt? May we ever realize that as the song says, ‘ a hero lies in you.” Contributed by ATTY. DANTE SANTIAGO M. RITO, parent of Mario Dan T. Rito, 6H
