With one heavy cycle, running to the doctor is not necessary. A specialist would observe you for three days of heavy bleeding. Then the following will happen
A Pap test will be conducted. In this test, cells would be obtained from the cervix.
A thin instrument through the cervix will be put in to get a sample of the endometrial lining
Sound waves would be used to take pictures of internal organs
The results of all the tests would be available in 7 days. A few tasks need anesthesia
Ways To Treat Excessive Bleeding During Periods
If you have tried all ways out and if it is still bleeding too much. It is best to let your doctor know and talk about all the changes that you can look for.
Check if a change in your lifestyle or eating habits can reduce the excessive bleeding or consider medical treatments that are effective and get to know about the side effects.
According to one study, oral progesterone pills would commonly treat menorrhagia and at the same time one of the least effective pills. With the help of these pills, hormones would be delivered through an intrauterine device (IUD). This device releases the progesterone levonorgestrel hormone within the uterus.
About 60 percent of the menstrual blood can be reduced with the help of overthe-counter NSAID (a non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug), such as ibuprofen and naproxen would work.
There was another medicine introduced in 2009 and it was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This was the first medicine that gave hope to menorrhagia, this medicine uses a protein that helps blood to clot. Before taking any medicine, ask the doctor. Don’t take your own decision.
Other ways of treating heavy bleeding are as follows
Hysterectomy to remove the uterus (after which childbearing is no longer possible).
Radical endometrial ablation, there will be no more bleeding as endometrial lining would be removed so that there is no more bleeding each month. For the procedure to work better, it might repeat.
Both these procedures wouldn’t be able to get you pregnant in the future. There is a possibility but with risks for the baby and you. You need to be careful with a hysterectomy and endometrial ablation, as these are important and serious surgeries.
Once you consult the doctor, you will get better options to treat over bleeding in your menstrual cycle. Doctors will recommend a few options that will help you have a comfortable period cycle.
