Can COVID-19 Enter Your Home Through Clothes And Shoes?
The pandemic has taught us to be prepared that it can be present anywhere and at any time.
Until now we have only imagined that the virus can enter our homes through people but if you’ve got doubts that it could spread through clothes or shoes then you need not be worried because there are no documented cases as such.
However, we can take a few steps to stay hygienic and keep the virus away by not compromising on cleanliness factors when it comes to our clothes and shoes.
All of us have to be careful because we are not sure of when and how a coronavirus patient is around us.
As a preventive measure, after getting back home, the first thing we must do is wash our clothes and shoes. We have to remember that this virus can rapidly spread to other family members if we are not cautious enough.
The home detergents can immediately kill the virus. If you go to see, it is an advantage for us that household detergents are powerful. Even after quarantine, it would be great to be extra cautious and wash your clothes well to kill the virus. Even if you are doing your best in a self-quarantine situation to keep yourself safe, even then it is important to take safety measures.
If you do not want the virus to get into your house even indirectly then whenever you step out even for a while, wear a mask and avoid touching spots like doorknobs, countertops, and minute things.
Wear a pair of gloves and practice social distancing. As you get back home, wash your hand gloves and mask with the household detergents.
As this virus can pass through respiratory droplets, there is a possibility that these droplets might be present on your clothes and chances are that someone who touches you is likely to contract the virus.
This is seen as a possibility because as of now, much researches are being conducted on this virus. Experts have found out that coronavirus stays on a few things like metal, plastic, and clothing for 2-3 days and if you try removing it within that time, it disappears.
Given that clothes are soft and not hard surfaces like wood or plastic, there isn’t any proof or instance that the virus stays on fabrics. The virus is only likely to spread if clothes are not washed after being exposed to an environment where the virus is spreading.
How To Protect Your Clothes From The Virus?
If you are a doctor and you’ve treated a coronavirus patient, then immediately go home and wash your clothes with detergents.
If you have returned home after coming in contact with someone who sneezed or coughed and didn’t maintain distance, even then you need to particularly wash your clothes with detergent.
As much as you can, in public, avoid placing your hands anywhere. It is not good at all.
Without being worried that the virus would get passed on to the machine, you can easily wash your clothes in the machine as detergents and water will be mixed.
Will the virus spread through shoes?
For shoes are clumsy and unclean when compared to clothes, they contain harmful dirt that is carried into the house and you must be in the impression that the virus might be entering home with the dirt. Isn’t it?
But is it true?
Are there chances for the virus to enter through your shoes?
According to a study published by the CDC, the virus can live on the sole of your shoes. Researchers collected samples of the shoes worn by the members working in one of the hospitals in Wuhan and their shoes were tested coronavirus positive.
Further, they came to an understanding that the shoes of these staff carried the disease. If you go to see, shoes are not as unsafe as we don’t bring them close to us in our daily life. We are less likely to let the infection spread from our shoes because we rarely touch it.
If you still don’t want to take any risk with your shoes then it is best to clean it off before you get them in or leave it in a place away from your entrance door. Always keep your footwear separate. Let the outwear stay out and what is worn inside, stay indoors.
By doing this you would avoid getting the virus inside and it might naturally dry out in the open.
Conclusion
We are already aware of how this virus is transmitted from one person to a few others and the chain goes on. To stay safe, abide by the rules recommended by the CDC to prevent the virus and stay hygienic. Chances for the virus to spread through your clothes or shoes are minimal.
