FAIRTRADE Firstly, we would like to thank the Mustard Seed for their kind donation which has enabled us to migrate our website to a new provider and to pay for the
first year’s hosting. We would also like to thank the United Reformed Church for allowing us to use their hall for our meetings. Garstang Fairtrade are delighted to join in the Garstang Christmas Festive Trail and enter our tree which will be displayed at St Thomas’s Church as part of the Christmas Tree event. The Great Big Green Week in September was an excellent opportunity to reconnect with local schools after 18 months in which contacts were difficult. The intention was to develop awareness of climate change, particularly in view of the COP26 conference and to inform pupils on the ways in which this has a major impact on Fairtrade producers. It was also a chance for the children to reflect on how this issue might affect them and what they can do in their own lives in response to climate change. We visited five local primary schools and we are planning to visit others. The pupils showed considerable awareness of climate change, with some working on topics related to the issue so a big thank you from our schools co-ordinator, Michael Tempan for making us so welcome. We are expecting that Fairtrade Fortnight 2022 will again focus on Climate Change and the Environment so look out in the January edition of Focus Magazine for more information. Finally, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and thank everyone for your support during 2021. Peter Ryder e: garstangfairtrade@gmail.com fb: ‘Garstang Fairtrade’ www.fairtrade.org.uk
