East Moline Mexican Independence Day Parade will return September 19 The East Moline Independence Day Parade and Fiesta is back. This year it will be on Sunday, September 19th with the parade kicking off the celebration at noon. LULAC Davenport Council #10 and Moline Council # 5285 invite members of the Quad Cities community and its surrounding areas to enjoy a fun afternoon in downtown East Moline celebrating Mexican Independence Day with a parade and Fiesta. The parade will start at 12:00 PM on 3rd street. From 3rd Street it will move on to 10th Street and continue on 13th Avenue. After the Parade join a Fiesta at Runner’s Park parking lot located at 13th Avenue. The fiesta will start at 2:00 PM until 9:30 PM. Grupo Instinto, Grupo Fantasia and DJ Chip Lopez will entertain the crowds with music. There will be performances by the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico and Danza Asuncion from St. Anthony’s Church in Davenport, IA. There will be food vendors as well. Also, during this event expect the presentation of the LULAC Council 10 Queen and court. This year organizers of this event are planning to give out the 2021 Community Awards. “We will be giving 2021 Community Awards to recognize Excellence in Journalism and Broadcasting,” Juanita Zertuche, one of the organizers of this event, stated. “We want to acknowledge the dedication and leadership during Covid to get the key information to our communities. It will be a message of gratitude to all those that helped get us to where we are today.” Come out to enjoy the fun outdoor event. It is free to attend. The Independence Day Parade and Fiesta will be on Sunday, September 19th in Downtown East Moline. The parade will begin at 12:00 PM on 3rd Street and the Fiesta will start at 2:00 PM at the Runner’s Park parking lot located at 13th Avenue.

El Desfile del Día de la Independencia de México regresa el 19 de septiembre a East Moline El Desfile y Fiesta del Día de la Independencia de East Moline está de vuelta. Este año será el Domingo, 19 de Septiembre con el desfile iniciando la celebración al mediodía. LULAC Davenport Council #10 y Moline Council # 5285 invitan a los miembros de la comunidad de los Quad Cities y sus alrededores a disfrutar de una tarde divertida en el centro de East Moline celebrando el Día de la Independencia de México con un desfile y una Fiesta. El desfile comenzará a las 12:00 PM en la calle 3. De la calle 3 pasará a la calle 10 y continuará por la avenida 13. Después del desfile, se celebrará una fiesta en el estacionamiento de Runner’s Park, ubicado en la 13ª Avenida. La fiesta comenzará a las 2:00 PM hasta las 9:30 PM. El Grupo Instinto, el Grupo Fantasía y el DJ Chip López se encargarán de entretener a la multitud con su música. Habrá una presentación del Ballet Folklórico de Quad Cities y Danza Asunción de la Iglesia de San Antonio en Davenport, IA. También habrá puestos de comida. Además, durante este
evento se espera la presentación de la Reina y la corte del Concilio 10 de LULAC. Celebrando a Imelda (Imee) Crinklaw - Ceremonia del árbol conmemorativo el 28 de agosto en BHC Black Hawk College rinde homenaje a Imelda (Imee) Crinklaw con una ceremonia conmemorativa del árbol y dedica un banco, un árbol y una placa a Imelda Crinklaw a las 5 p.m. Sábado 28 de agosto en el campus de QuadCities de Black Hawk College, 6600 34th Ave., Moline. Imee falleció el 13 de enero de 2021 en las profundidades de la pandemia y solo tuvo una breve visitación. Ella fue una defensora de aquellos que la sociedad marginó y pasó su vida dando voz a aquellos que no tenían voz en esta sociedad. Ayudó a los inmigrantes a solicitar la ciudadanía, les tradujo en la oficina del Seguro Social, en los tribunales, en los hospitales y en las oficinas de las escuelas. Ayudó a los Dreamers a renovar sus documentos. Dio la bienvenida a los recién llegados a Quad-Cities y participó con entusiasmo en el Festival Internacional de Black Hawk College que trajo el mundo a Moline. Organizó eventos para recaudar fondos para muchas personas cuando ocurrió un desastre. Dondequiera que la necesitaran, Imee se entregaba sin expectativas. Hizo gran parte de ese

Celebrating Imelda (Imee) Crinklaw – Commemorative Tree Ceremony Aug. 28 at BHC Black Hawk College is honoring the late Imelda (Imee) Crinklaw with a Commemorative Tree Ceremony and dedicating a bench, tree and plaque to Imelda Crinklaw at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Black Hawk College Quad-Cities Campus, 6600 34th Ave., Moline. Imee passed away Jan. 13, 2021, in the depths of the pandemic and only had a brief walk-through visitation. She was an advocate for those who society marginalized and spent her life giving voice to
those who were voiceless in this society. She helped immigrants apply for citizenship, she translated for them in the Social Security office, in court, in hospitals and in school offices. She helped Dreamers renew their documents. She welcomed newcomers to the Quad-Cities and enthusiastically participated in the Black Hawk College International Festival which brought the world to Moline. She organized fundraisers for many people when disaster struck. Wherever she was needed, Imee gave of

¡Taste of Fiesta en Rock Falls, IL se prepara para un divertido y seguro festival! Por Anastassia Zvoryguina Poco a poco los eventos comunitarios y los desfiles empiezan a reaparecer con mucha cautela. El mes de la celebración de la Herencia Hispana está casi aquí y ya hay algunos eventos divertidos e interesantes programados para este año en el oeste de Illinois. Salga a celebrar la cultura hispana en Taste of Fiesta en Rock Falls, IL. El Taste of Fiesta es el mayor evento de celebración hispana en el área de Sauk Valley. Su primera celebración fue en el 2011. “Este será el noveno evento anual (debido a la pandemia de COVID-19) y estamos emocionados de volver después de no tener el evento el año pasado”, dijo Gabriel Pérez, uno de los organizadores de este evento. El Sr. Pérez explicó que, mientras que en años anteriores siempre intentaban tener un tema específico que promoviera y educara a la comunidad sobre el patrimonio y la cultura, este año los organizadores simplemente querían celebrar el placer de reunirse y estar de nuevo con la gente. #UnitedAgain es el tema del Taste of Fiesta de este año. La novena edición de Taste of Fiesta será el primer gran evento que da comienzo a los Días de Fiesta en Sauk Valley. Taste of
Fiesta será el 11 de septiembre de 2021 en el RB&W District Park, Rock Falls, IL. “Las ceremonias de apertura comenzarán a las 12 del mediodía, sin embargo, tendremos vendedores de comida operando tan pronto como se instalen”, dijo el Sr. Pérez. “La mayoría de nuestros vendedores de alimentos y artesanías regulares aceptan dinero en efectivo como su principal método de pago, pero, estamos alentando métodos de pago sin contacto debido a la pandemia. vigente, los organizadores de este evento están tomando las precauciones necesarias para mantener a los asistentes lo más seguros posible. Aunque no es necesario llevar cubrebocas, se recomienda encarecidamente a los asistentes que las utilicen. “Los invitados pueden sentirse seguros sabiendo que este año ofreceremos cubrebocas desechables gratuitas si se solicitan, así como desinfectante para las manos disponible en el lugar”, dijo el Sr. Pérez. “Animamos a todos a respetar el espacio personal de los demás y a mantener la distancia social cuando sea posible. Como se mencionó anteriormente, estamos alentando métodos de pago sin contacto a todos nuestros vendedores y asistentes, cuando sea posible, para limitar los posibles puntos de contacto, pero recuerde traer dinero en efectivo, ya que esto garantizará su transacción.” Durante este evento también se anima al público a vacunarse. “Este año también estamos ofreciendo un servicio público a través del Departamento de Salud del Condado de Whiteside de vacunarse en el lugar para nuestros invitados y asistentes si deciden hacerlo en su auto-

Estamos firmemente al lado de esas personas y miembros de nuestra comunidad mientras avanzamos hacia lo desconocido. El 68 ° desfile anual del Fiesta Day está programado para el sábado 18 de septiembre con una nueva ruta STERLING - El 68º desfile anual de Fiesta Day se llevará a cabo el sábado 18 de septiembre de 2021. Este evento es organizado e implementado por el Comité de Líderes Empresariales Hispanos de la Cámara de Comercio del Área de Sauk Valley. Esta tradición no solo celebra el Día de la Independencia de México, sino que también está ahí para honrar la variedad de contribuciones culturales ricas y coloridas que los hispanos trajeron a esta región del país. Después de 60 años de grandes celebraciones planeadas por el antiguo Club Social Latinoamericano en Sterling, la antorcha de continuar con esta tradición pasó al Comité de Líderes Empresariales Hispanos de la Cámara de Comercio del Área de Sauk Valley. El desfile comenzará a la 1:00 pm en Rock Falls y terminará en Sterling. Debido a la construcción de IDOT en el centro de Sterling, la ruta del desfile ha sido cambiada. El desfile todavía comenzará en Rock Falls y las entradas al desfile se alinearán en la calle 10th. El desfile viajará hacia el norte por First Avenue en Rock Falls y cruzará el puente de First Avenue hacia Sterling. En la base del puente,
el desfile girará a la izquierda en 2nd St y viajará hacia el norte por Locust Street hasta 3rd Street, girando hacia el oeste (izquierda) y continuando hasta Avenue C donde termina el desfile. Raquel Sifuentes de la YWCA del Valle de Sauk ha sido seleccionada como la Gran Mariscal 2021 para el 68 ° Desfile del Día de la Fiesta anual. Silvia Rosales, residente de Floreciente, agradece la nueva oportunidad de vida tras un doble trasplante de pulmón Por Anastassia Zvoryguina
Moline, IL.- Según la Administración de Recursos y Servicios de Salud, hay más de 100,000 personas en la lista nacional de espera de trasplantes y cada nueve minutos se suma otra persona. Cada donante puede salvar ocho vidas y mejorar más de setenta y cinco. En 2020 se realizaron treinta y nueve mil trasplantes en todo el país. Detrás de cada una de estas cifras hay una persona que ha sido beneficiada por la donación de órganos. Conozca a Silvia Rosales, de Moline (Illinois). Su reto comenzó hace quince años, cuando tuvo síntomas de un desagradable resfriado. Pensó que podría mejorar con algunos remedios caseros y medicamentos sin receta de su farmacia local. Desgraciadamente, el persistente resfriado no cedía. “Durante el invierno me di cuenta de que me quedaba sin aliento al caminar”, cuenta Silvia Rosales. Sabía que eso no era normal, así que pidió cita con su médico para que le revisara los pulmones. Al principio, el médico pensó que se trataba de una bronquitis. “Una vez que me escuchó los pulmones me dijo que no sonaba bien y me mandó a hacer radiografías”, recuerda Rosales que se sometió a diferentes exámenes para encontrar la causa de lo que estaba pasando con sus pulmones. Las radiografías mostraron que había algo mal. Al médico le preocupaba que la señora Rosales pudiera tener cáncer. Su médico programó una biopsia de sus pulmones y, aunque demostró que no era cáncer, reveló que se trataba de una neumonitis por hipersensibilidad, un trastorno del sistema inmunitario en el que los pulmones se inflaman como consecuencia de una reacción alérgica que puede estar causada por un microorganismo, proteínas vegetales o animales o sustancias químicas inhaladas sin saberlo. Rosales explicó que su médico no estaba seguro de qué había provocado exactamente la enfermedad, pero que podría haber sido causada por los productos químicos que Rosales utilizaba a diario en su trabajo como limpiadora.
Esta enfermedad no tiene cura. Si los pulmones quedan gravemente marcados, el médico podría recomendar un trasplante de pulmón, pero como se trata de un trastorno del sistema inmunitario, los pacientes necesitarán cuidados a largo plazo para asegurarse de que los pulmones no se vuelvan a inflamar. Tras la biopsia, el médico comenzó a tratar a Rosales con esteroides. “Tenía una tos que era agotadora”, dijo Rosales. Llegó un momento en que la enfermedad avanzó y los Quad Cities no tenían especialistas para ayudar a Rosales. La enviaron a Iowa City. Los especialistas la trataron, pero la enfermedad siguió avanzando. “Llegó un momento en que no podía respirar al caminar”, dijo Rosales. La llevaron de urgencia al hospital de Rock Island, pero pronto fue evidente que necesitaba más cuidados y ayuda de los que el hospital local podía ofrecer. Rosales acabó yendo al Northwestern Memorial Hospital de Chicago, donde le hicieron diferentes pruebas y le aplicaron más tratamientos. Finalmente, la incluyeron en la lista de espera de donantes. “En julio de 2020 recibí una llamada. Me dijeron que tenían los pulmones para mí”, recuerda Rosales.

Después de dos meses de terapias y rehabilitación le permitieron volver a casa para continuar con sus terapias en los Quad Cities. “Dijeron que todo tenía buen aspecto y que los pulmones no eran rechazados [por mi cuerpo]”, dijo Rosales. Ha pasado un año desde su operación de doble trasplante de pulmón. Hoy Rosales sigue agradecida al donante desconocido y a veces desea saber quién fue el donante que le dio este regalo de vida. Explicó que mucha gente no se da cuenta de cómo la donación de órganos puede salvar la vida de una persona. Su corazón está lleno de gratitud por su donante de pulmón. Espera conocer algún día a la familia del donante. “Me encantaría conocer a la familia de mi donante de pulmón”, explica. “Pero no sabría qué decirles. No hay palabras para expresar mi gratitud”. Hoy en día, es feliz y, aunque el COVID 19 es algo que supone un peligro aún mayor para ella que para otras personas, intenta
disfrutar de esta nueva oportunidad en la vida. “Dios me dio otra oportunidad y aquí estoy”, dijo. Silvia Rosales y su familia están muy agradecidos a todos los que la tuvieron en sus pensamientos y oraciones. Floreciente Resident Silvia Rosales is Grateful for the New Opportunity at Life After a Double Lung Transplant By Anastassia Zvoryguina Moline, IL.- According to the Health Resources and Services Administration, there are more than 100,000 people on the national transplant waiting list and every nine minutes another person is added. Every donor can save eight lives and improve more than seventy-five lives. In 2020, thirty-nine thousand transplants were performed nationwide. Behind each of these numbers there is a person impacted by organ donation. Meet Silvia Rosales from Moline, IL. Her journey began fifteen years ago when she had symptoms of a nasty cold. She thought she could make it better through some home remedies and over-the-counter medicines from her local pharmacy. Unfortunately, the stubborn cold would not let up. “During winter I noticed that I was getting out of breath when I walked,” Silvia Rosales shared. She knew that was not normal, so she made an appointment with her doctor to get her lungs checked. At first her doctor thought it was a case of bronchitis.
“Once he listened to my lungs he said it did not sound right and sent me to get x-rays,” Rosales remembered undergoing different exams to find the root cause of what was going on with her lungs. The x-ray showed that there was something wrong. The doctor was worried that Mrs Rosales might have cancer. Her doctor scheduled a biopsy of her lungs and while it showed that it was not cancer, it revealed hypersensitivity pneumonitis, an immune system disorder where lungs get inflamed as a result of an allergic reaction that can be caused by a microorganism, plant or animal proteins or chemicals inhaled unknowingly. Rosales explained that her doctor was not sure what exactly provoked the disease but it could have been caused by the chemicals that Rosales used daily at her job as a cleaner. This disease has no cure. If the lungs get severely scarred, the doctor might recommend a lung transplant, but since it is an immune system disorder, patients will require long-term care to make sure the lungs do not get inflamed again. After the biopsy the doctor started
treating Rosales with steroids. “I had a cough that was exhausting,” Rosales said. There came a point that the disease advanced and the Quad Cities did not have specialists to help Rosales. She was sent to Iowa City. The specialists treated her, but the disease continued to advance. “There came a moment when I could not breathe when I walked,” Rosales said. The doctors told her she needed to have oxygen to help her breathe, but the disease was not getting better. It got worse. “In May of 2020 my right lung collapsed,” said Rosales. She was rushed to the hospital in Rock Island, but soon it was evident that she needed more care and help than the local hospital could provide. Rosales ended up going to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where they ran different tests and did more treatments. Ultimately, she was put on the donor waiting list. “In July of 2020 I received a call. They said they had the lungs for me,” Rosales remembered. Her lung transplant surgery was scheduled on July 14, 2020. “I was not scared when I went into the operating room,” Rosales shared. “Above all, I put my life in God’s hands. And He gave me another opportunity.” After her lung transplant surgery she was sent to rehabilitation and therapy. “I could not walk,” Rosales explained. “They were teaching me everything as if I was a baby.” After 2 months of therapies and rehabilitation she was allowed to return home to continue with her therapies in the Quad Cities.
“They said everything looked good and the lungs were not rejected [by my body],” Rosales said. A year has passed since her double lung transplant surgery. Today Rosales remains thankful to the unknown donor and sometimes she wishes she knew the donor that gave her this gift of life. She explained that many people don’t realize how an organ donation can save a person’s life. Her heart is filled with gratitude for her lung donor. She hopes to one day meet the donor’s family. “I would love to meet my lung donor’s [family],” she explained. “But I would not know what to say to them. There are no words to express my gratitude.” Nowadays, she is happy and even though COVID 19 is something that poses even more danger to her than other people, she tries to enjoy this new opportunity in life. “God gave me another chance and here I am,” she said. Silvia Rosales and her family are very grateful to everyone who kept her in their thoughts and prayers. She wants to thank everyone from the bottom of her heart, including her medical team and all the medical workers who were there for her during this life-saving journey. They did not just save her life, they gave her a chance to live longer and enjoy the love of her family and friends. “We are thankful to all the people who prayed for me. We are thankful to the donor. We are thankful to everyone who helped us economically. We are thankful to the transplant team and nurses,” expressed Rosales. Taste of Fiesta in Rock Falls, IL is back! And they are preparing for a fun and safe festival

Little by little community events and parades are starting to pop up again with a lot of caution. Hispanic Heritage celebration month is almost here and already there are some fun and interesting events scheduled for this year in Western Illinois. Come out to celebrate Hispanic culture at Taste of Fiesta in Rock Falls, IL. The Taste of Fiesta is the largest Hispanic celebration event in the Sauk Valley area. It had its first celebration in 2011. “This will be the 9th annual event (because of the COVID-19 pandemic) and we are excited to be back after not having the event last year.,” Gabriel Perez, one of the organizers of this event said. Mr. Perez explained that while in previous years they always tried to have a specific theme that would promote and educate the community about heritage and culture, this year the organizers simply wanted to celebrate the pleasure of meeting and being around people again. #UnitedAgain is the theme of this year’s Taste of Fiesta. The 9th annual Taste of Fiesta will be the first big event that starts Fiesta Days
in Sauk Valley. Taste of Fiesta will be on September 11, 2021 at the RB&W District Park, Rock Falls, IL. “Opening ceremonies will begin at 12pm Noon however, we will be having food vendors operating as soon as they set up,” Mr. Perez said. “Most of our Food and regular craft vendors accept cash as their primary method of payment but, we are encouraging contactless methods of payments due to the pandemic. The event officially runs until 6pm but potentially can run longer depending on guest attendance.” In addition to delicious food, there will be music, crafts for kids, and outreach and support services. Attendees will be able to enjoy live music, traditional folkloric dancing, live artwork from featured artists and 50/50 cash raffle. As usual there will be an award ceremony. “As an organization, we also award and recognize community leaders and young scholars with scholarships,” Mr. Perez explained. “We pride ourselves in being education focused for our community by offering support resources and outlets for our culture to grow.” Considering that the pandemic is still go-
ing on, the organizers of this event are taking necessary precautions to keep attendees as safe as possible. Although masks are not required to attend, it is strongly encouraged that attendees use them. “Guests can feel safe knowing that this year we will offer free disposable face masks upon request if needed, as well as hand sanitizer available on location,” Mr. Perez shared safety information. “We are encouraging everyone to still respect the personal space of others and maintain social distance when possible. As mentioned above, we are encouraging contactless methods of payment to all of our vendors and attendees, when possible, to limit possible points of contact but remember to bring cash as this will guarantee their transaction.” During this event the public is also encouraged to get vaccinated. “This year we are also offering a public service through the Whiteside County Health Department of getting vaccinated on-site for our guests and attendees if they choose to get it with their mobile bus” Mr. Perez announced. Taste of Fiesta organizers hope people
can make time and come out to enjoy this celebration. It will also be a day of remembering. The organizers would like everyone to remember those that are not longer among us. “We are excited to be back after the pandemic and be celebrated as a culture. We also want to recognize that due the pandemic there are those of us that aren’t able to be with us because of their passing and know that members of our community have been impacted by the pandemic,” Mr. Perez explained. “We want to do our best to respect everyone affected and continue to experience an impact from the pandemic. We stand strongly beside those individuals and members of our community as we move forward into the unknown. As always, I want to wish everyone to continue to be blessed and provide support, when possible, with the platform we provide from our organization.” Taste of Fiesta will be on September 11, 2021 at the RB&W District Park, Rock Falls, IL.

AROUND ILLINOIS The 68th annual Fiesta Day Parade is Scheduled for Saturday, September 18th with new route STERLING –The 68th annual Fiesta Day Parade will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021. This event is organized and implemented by the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Business Leaders Committee. This tradition not only celebrates Mexican Independence Day, but also it is there to honor the variety of rich and colorful cultural contributions that Hispanics brought to this region of the country. After 60 years of great celebrations planned by the old Latin American Social Club in Sterling the torch of carrying on with this tradition was passed to The Hispanic Business Leaders Committee at the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. The parade will begin at 1:00pm in Rock Falls and end in Sterling. Due to IDOT construction in Downtown Sterling, the parade route has been changed. The parade will still begin in Rock Falls and Parade Entries will line up on 10th Street. The parade will travel North on First Avenue in Rock Falls and cross the First Avenue bridge into Sterling. At the base of the bridge the parade will turn left on to 2nd St and will trav-
el North on Locust Street to 3rd Street -turning west (left) and continuing to Avenue C where the parade ends. Raquel Sifuentes of the YWCA of the Sauk Valley has been selected as the 2021 Grand Marshal for the 68th annual Fiesta Day Parade! This will be a great family event where Latinos of Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon and surrounding area can represent their country, region or city with a nice float highlighting the beauty of where you and your family comes from. Las peleas de boxeo profesional en Davenport estuvieron - “MAJESTIC” Felicitaciones a Alien Boi Boxing y Calkins Sport Productions por otra gran noche de peleas de boxeo profesional en Davenport, IA el pasado sábado 14 de Agosto por la noche. MAJESTIC - Boxing Show fue la primera vez que se llevó a cabo una pelea por el título mundial femenino en Iowa. La pelea por el Campeonato Mundial de Boxeo de UBO fue el evento principal. Una gran pelea entre Summer Lynn vs Brenda Gonzalez. Estas dos hábiles boxeadoras recorrieron la distancia en una emocionante pelea de 10 asaltos.
