BEAUTIFYING THE BATHROOM It would be fair to say that bathrooms have become less glitzy and more earthy in recent years. Natural materials such as stone, wood and botanicals have crept into this area of the home, and this can only be a good thing. We all want the same feeling when entering a bathroom, one that gives the sensation of visiting a health spa or expensive hotel ensuite bathroom – with the likes of a contemporary washbasin and toilet, a rain shower, an oversized bath, smooth surfaces, beautiful cabinetry and a large mirror with (of course) complementary lighting. These days bathrooms make the most of the available space, allowing the homeowner to enjoy the room without clutter and with low maintenance. This is achieved with good storage solutions, a wellplanned layout and carefully selected materials that are both hardwearing and easy to keep clean. Large tiles are highly recommended as they give the feeling of space and are more hygienic, with fewer ridges for dirt and bacteria to fester. Modernising your bathroom on a budget could be as simple as updating your taps, or adding a feature wall or a new mirror, while a good shelving unit is a must to store away unsightly toiletries and accessories.
