How to create the perfect cat eye for every occasion

By Omnia El Shamy Makeup Artist Without a doubt, cat eyes are the hottest trend in eye makeup. Flaring eyeliner out at the outer corner of your eyes accentuates the lash line for a classic, sexy look. Cat eyes or “winged” eyeliner is easier to master than you think. Once you learn the technique, you can use it to fashion a variety of looks from delicate and demure to get-noticed bold. Very little additional makeup is necessary making the style great for hot, sticky summer weather. I prefer to keep my lids bare or just add a simple swipe of shimmery shadow. In this post, I will offer tips to create the perfect cat eye and demonstrate 5 different wearable looks to serve as inspiration. I wear some version of a cat eye almost every day, so I consider myself a bit of an expert! 1. Line the upper lash line including the spaces between the actual lashes (this is called tight lining) from the inner corner of your eye to the outer edge. 2. Draw a line up from the outer corner of your eye using the curve of the

bottom lash line as a guide. Note the length of this line, to repeat on the other side for symmetry. 3. Connect the inner corner of the eye with the top of the line at the outer corner. 4. Fill in the shape. Optional: If desired, you can line the bottom lash line as well. I personally prefer for this line to be softer, blending from the outer corner to the center of the eye. Tips: To clean up mistakes, dip a cotton swab in eye makeup remover or a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil and wipe away excess. Dark, thick, sharp lines will create a dramatic look while soft, light, or smudged lines create a more subtle look. Don’t fear the cat eye because you fear it’s too bold; it’s easy to modify. If you struggle with drawing straight lines, try this awesome trick using scotch tape. Liner brushes are essential for applying gel, cream, or shadow liners. They are available in pointed, flat, and angled varieties.

Cairo Book Fair to Launch Professional Program

In early 2015, the Cairo International Book Fair will launch its first-ever professional program. The program’s set to be held from January 29 through 31, on the eve of the city’s 47th fair. The Cairo book fair, which boasts two million annual visitors and more than 700 publishers, has seen hard times in the last several years. The fair was cancelled in 2011, and the fairs that followed have each had their organizational challenges. But Egyptian politics isn’t the only hurdle facing a professional program in Cairo. A number of international publishers are already attending Arabicfocused book fairs in Sharjah or Abu Dhabi. But Sherif Bakr, a member of the Egyptian Publishers’ Association (EPA), says the Cairo program can work. Bakr is part of an EPA subgroup that has been pushing the new professional program. In launching a professional program, Bakr says, Cairo is not aiming to compete with the well-funded fairs in Sharjah or Abu Dhabi. Instead, “we actually hope to cooperate.” The Cairo fair,

which is traditionally held at the end of January and beginning of February, is nestled between the Sharjah (November) and Abu Dhabi (April/May) fairs. In this way, Bakr suggested, “It would be another chance for foreign publishers to discover the area with a different taste.” It’s also true that, while the saying is “Egypt writes, Beirut publishes…,” it is Cairo that has the largest number of publishers in the region. And the Cairo fair, Bakr said, “has a better variety” of publishers, “especially with independent publishers and newcomers who are really changing the publishing scene in Egypt and the Arab world.” Cairo’s new professional program was first introduced in Frankfurt this year, and Bakr said it’s already generated a lot of interest. Publishers told him, “Finally, we’ve been trying to discover this part of the world but it seems impossible.” So, Bakr said, “we are preparing for ‘Mission Impossible’.”Most Arab publishers still focus on the selling aspect of book fairs, so an international professional program will take some marketing. “But we know the difficulties,” Bakr said, “and we are going to do our best to make this an experience not to be forgotten.”

Ancient pharaoh rises again The Egyptian government has recently invested heavily into the renovation and restoration of its ancient cultural sites in an effort to turn around an ailing economy, traditionally reliant on tourism and struggling to recover in the wake of the Arab Spring. Art Daily reports that two completed projects have been unveiled.

Archaeologists in Luxor presented a restored giant statue depicting the Pharaoh Amenhotep III walking. The statue, which was re-erected at the northern gate of the ruler’s funerary temple, is standing for the first time since crumbling in an earthquake 3,200 years ago. Scientists pieced together the 110-ton statue from 89 chunks and several hundred of fragments. It now stands next to another effigy of the king, unveiled last spring. “These are up to now the highest standing effigies of an Egyptian king in striding attitude,” Hourig Sourouzian, head of the restoration project, told Art Daily.

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab unveiled four newly renovated rooms in the Egyptian Museum’s Tutankhamen gallery in Cairo. The halls feature the boy-king’s mummy alongside various treasures that were excavated from the monarch’s tomb, left untouched until 1922. James Moran of the EU’s delegation in Cairo told Art Daily that the restoration of the iconic institution “is fundamental for the economy.” The EU has pledged €92,000 ($115,000) towards the redevelopment of the Egyptian Museum, which holds the largest number of Pharaonic artifacts in the world.

The Work/Life Balance Myth

By Mohamed Tohami Egypt’s #1 motivation expert If you take a look at your life to evaluate what you’ve accomplished, would you be proud of the life you’ve lived so far? So many people claim that they are too busy at work that they can’t find time and energy to do what they want in life. You wish to find a secret formula to balance life and work. You wish to live a bigger life and broaden your experiences, but you are totally stressed and out of balance. When you turn to experts for a work/ life balance advice, you usually get this answer: “You must learn how to separate work from life” For me this is B.S.The legendary Steve Jobs of Apple said, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

So the advice of separating work from life is not practical and is pure nonsense. Here’s the secret... You must live an integrated life Everything you do should be an integral part of your passion, personality and lifestyle. This way your work will give you positive energy that extends to other areas of your life. And when you live and work with passion, you live an integrated life that you don’t want to separate its parts. Think integration, not separation! When you do work you love and have a great cause to live for, your life becomes integrated. Work becomes part of your life and your life becomes part of your work. Everything you do has its role in the bigger meaning and purpose of your life. That’s the real balance. Oh, sorry! I mean integration.

Omar Samra reaches South Pole

Omar Samra is proud to announce, that on 29 December, after crossing 111km, he skied to the last degree of the South Pole to raise Egypt’s flag. This accomplishment brings him one step closer to achieving his overall goal of completing the “Adventurers Grand Slam”. Along with a team of eleven other adventurers who hail from Germany, Russia and India, Samra started his trek from the 89th degree. Every day the team would ski between seven to nine

hours, and cross roughly a distance of 14km to 16km, depending on weather conditions. September to March are considered Antarctica’s summer months, the sun is consistently above the horizon. It never gets that high in the sky at the South Pole though, reaching a maximum height of 23 degrees. Much of the sunlight the Pole does get is immediately reflected upward because of the white snow. This phenomenon, along with the altitude (about 2800 metres) is what makes the South Pole one of the coldest places on Earth. “It was a rough start for me at the beginning,” Samra said. “I had a stomach microbe causing me severe pains; and I was on antibiotics for five days, which affected my performance early on; especially, that we had to pull sleds weighing 80kg throughout our journey. However, as I improved, I started building more stamina and was able to make it. With this achievement close to the New Year, I hope that 2015 will be a good year for Egypt and for everyone who is passionate to pursue his dreams.

GBI [Global Biking Initiative] Team members have been exploring the world on a bike since 2009 and crossed 17 countries worldwide on their bicycles. GBI teams exist in 25 countries and lead by Egypt and Germany, and are having three main cycling tours this year, the first one in Egypt in Jan from Aswan to Luxor, and the second in Middle East from Amman to Sharm, and the third in Europe from Venice to Stuttgart crossing Italy, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria and Germany. Why bicycle is the best tool to explore the world with? If you crossed cities or countries by car you will see things from a distance and will not touch the

couture of these places, and if you went for a walking tour you will see few places. On a bike you can cover several cities and cross 10th of kilometers per day touching every small piece on the road and experiencing the people couture and behaviors and interacting with them, you will stop by any place you like and have a photo or chat with the local people and play with the kids. It is a new traveling experience that you must seize; it is a life time experience. Follow the trainings and tours details with GBI through Facebook.com/GBIEgyptTeam

Hyundai ix35 Highlander

Cadillac CTS-V 2016 Cadillac WHAT IT IS The eagerly awaited bazooka version of the third-generation Cadillac CTS, designed to fight for America’s honor against its European competitors. Unfortunately, this time around, there won’t be a station wagon or a coupe— or a manual option. That’s a crime, but the automatic sedan is what sells. WHY IT MATTERS The first two generations of this velvet Vette have given Cadillac credibility among enthusiasts. The next one will sand down the few rough edges of its predecessors. The CTS-V is a halo car for the brand and for GM as a whole. PLATFORM Broadly speaking, the CTS-V will use the ATS/CTS “Alpha” architecture, but

with more aluminum onboard. POWERTRAIN Power will come from a supercharged V-8, most likely the 6.2-liter LT4 from the new Corvette Z06. It will make at least 600 horsepower and send the squawk to the rear tires through GM’s new eight-speed automatic. COMPETITION Audi S6/S7/RS7, BMW M5/M6 Gran Coupe, Jaguar XFR, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. WHAT MIGHT GO WRONG The lack of coupe and wagon variants may put off the hard core. And the 420-hp Vsport could make the CTS-V a harder sell

Hyundai no longer needs to prove with the ix35 but with this new model, Hyundai not only claims that it is offering quality for a low price, but it would also have us believe that the ix35 offers SUV looks and ability, compact MPV practicality and small hatchback levels of affordability. If you believe its maker, this is not simply a compact SUV but a crossover vehicle. The ix35 is clearly designed to appeal to style-conscious buyers, whichever demographic they fall into. The first Hyundai model to showcase the company’s ‘fluidic’ design language, the

POWERTRAIN The sole engine offering is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8. Horsepower will hit about 600, and an eight-speed automatic is standard. COMPETITION Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, Land Rover Range Rover Sport Supercharged, Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, another staffer for your Russian security team.

WHY IT MATTERS Purists winced when these utes’ 2.5ton predecessors appeared almost as mockeries of the street-legal racers once turned out by BMW’s M shop. Purists are still wincing, but heresy can be both fun and profitable.

numbers with their non-M variants but come only with four-wheel drive and a heavily tweaked chassis.

car’s angular grille is a particularly distinctive feature, and to our eyes it suits the ix35 very well. There is a pronounced sporty stance to the ix35. Its tapering side windows and roofline are designed to create a coupé look, and the sharply defined headlights and bonnet strakes are also intended to give the car a more aggressive character. It represents a bold leap forward from the often bland styling practiced by Hyundai before, and makes it clear that the ix35 is a revolution next to the Tucson, its distinctly forgettable predecessor.

139bn Euro Investment Projects Investor sentiment in Egyptian real estate has been boosted despite the current political situation, leading to €139bn-worth of development projects being scheduled for 2015.

The Middle East business intelligence service MEED reported a remarkable pick-up in Egypt’s economic development over the next two to three years in infrastructure, banking, real estate, power, petrochemicals and manufacturing sectors. Foreign firms continue to maintain their presence in Egypt with an influx of investment continuously pouring into the country, increasing its attractiveness to foreign and regional banks and high net worth individuals scouring the country for new opportunities for investment or expansion. In response to increased investor interest, the Egyptian government has introduced new investment laws to ease doing business in the country and to continue to woo investors in the hopes of sustaining the country’s stability. Continued investment in real estate and housing markets reinforce the firm foundation of optimism for increasing the level of participation in the Egyptian economy. “As Egypt turns the tide on the challenges of the past few years, the country is returning as a key investment hub for GCC and global investors alike - a development for which EFG Hermes is well-prepared - and as a firm with strong Egyptian roots and a broad, established regional presence, EFG Hermes is uniquely positioned to

Commenting on the notable increase in business confidence, Ahmed Abdelaal, regional head of corporate banking and structured finance for HSBC Middle East and North Africa said: “Egypt’s strategic geographic location and open trade hub continue to be key drivers for the economy going forward. According to our latest Trade Confidence Index, businesses in Egypt are very confident about import and export trade over the next few months – ranking highest amongst all 23 countries surveyed across the globe. This is a positive indicator of Egypt’s anticipated economic growth and showcases the country’s strong fundamentals and potentials. HSBC remains optimistic about Egypt’s long-term potential and the country continues to feature as one of the bank’s key markets for focus and investment.” Despite major political, economic and social transformations, Egypt has the basic foundations for economic stability and is rapidly emerging as an investment market with enormous potential.
