No doubts that many of us love Salah Jaheen’s quatrains because they are full of wonderful meanings as he uses the simplest words that everyone can understand easily. Everyone who reads them or listens to them can feel the spirit of Jaheen and can touch the lesson behind his words. Salah Jaheen became not just a local poet but also an international one to the extent that Google celebrated his 83rd birthday. Google made its logo decorated with “El Leila El Kebira” puppet show.

Hello winter
How to Say It in Arabic English
Mariam Sharaf
Egyptians were greatly surprised to see the first snowfall in years. Ali Abdelazim, an official at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, said that it was the first time in many years since the last snowfall in Cairo. However, this cruel cold that hit Egypt was part of a storm coming from the west called “Alexa” and it can be considered as something temporary, and we can still say that winter in Egypt is mild, moderate, and not too cold. There is a meteorological search that said in winter average temperature ranges from 20 degrees Celsius on the Mediterranean coast to 26 degrees Celsius in Aswan, and this is considered as a very nice weather
to enjoy. Some people classify Egypt’s weather as a nine-month summer, which is too hot and three months of cold winter, which is absolutely incorrect. Egypt has four different seasons that can be divided as follows: from September till the end of November, it is warm and the temperature is suitable for all activities like swimming, diving, snorkeling and making safari trips; it is around 15 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius. From December till the end of February is the winter time in Egypt during which the temperature ranges from 18 degrees Celsius during daytime to 7 degrees Celsius at night and is considered as a good winter.
From March till the end of April the weather is somehow dusty because of the wind that blows from the desert, and finally from May till the end of August is Egypt’s hot summer. Winter is considered Egypt’s high tourism season because of its nice weather. Egypt is full of wonderful places to enjoy in winter. There are beaches like Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, Ain Sukhna, Sinai and all the Red Sea area where you can enjoy the warm sun and see Egypt’s beauty. There are also ruins and historical sites like Luxor and Aswan where the greatness and the majesty of Pharaoh Egypt can be found and where you can also make wonderful and warm Nile cruises. Shortly, don’t stay at home in winter, just make your escape and enjoy a wonderful weekend in one of those places.

1- Don’t think about what upsets you. 2- Try doing something crazy and abnormal. 3- Listen to loud and hyper music. 4- Eat chocolate and ice cream; they’re mood elevators. 5- Exercise harder. 6- Think about positive things. 7- Go out with positive friends. 8- Try to call an old friend. 9- Dance! 10- Watch a comedy movie or play and
laugh. 11- Visit a toy store…it’s amazing! 12- Have a relaxed moment in a bubble
bath. 13- Get a new look. 14- If you have a pet, play with it. 15- Read a new book.
Azhar Park, Cairo. These two days are your time away from busy life. To relax means no planning and no responsibilities; that’s why your weekend needs to be spontaneous so no setting the alarm or sleeping early because you have to wake up for work. Just enjoy Thursday to the fullest, hang out with friends, watch a movie or even go home to kick back or sleep in; it depends on your mood that day. There are many things to do in Cairo. One of the best things about this city is that it’s got a lot of historical landmarks all around. Why not get to know more about your beautiful city and visit those amazing places? It’ll take weeks, maybe
months, to have them all scratched out from the list of places to visit. So how about you wake up whenever and have breakfast maybe in the open to enjoy the fresh air? Then hit the gym and take a friend with you for motivation — sometimes we tend to lose interest when it comes to exercising if there’s no one around encouraging us. After that have a shower and get some lunch. Now it’s time to pay a visit to one of Cairo’s landmarks – Cairo Citadel. Take some photos then stroll in the Azhar Park while eating corn. Today go for an oriental dinner; Kebab & Kofta, vine leaves and Om Aly with nuts then time for bed!
City Life
Salma Magdi This is a fragment of the everyday conversations between your inner self (conscience) and the two little creatures (angel and devil) on both your shoulders. At the end of the day, life is made of choices. C: I don’t think I’m the only one who got on this train without buying a ticket. I feel kind of guilty though. D: No need to turn all feisty. Do you really believe that all those passengers feel restless like you? I’m telling you, not one of them feels a shred of guilt because they didn’t do anything wrong. A: You wouldn’t feel that self-reproach if it weren’t a vicious deed. You have good in you. C: It would be so humiliating too if I’m caught red-handed but maybe I can pretend to have lost my wallet just this time. Next time I’ll buy a ticket for sure. Once bitten, twice shy. D: We all know that the ticket window is only an image in case the inspector shows up but people use this metro day and night without getting caught. Also the government has to take it easy on us with the burdens of mortgage and taxes…. A: If you get caught, you won’t like it but you’ll have a clear conscience. It doesn’t matter how others see you. Do it for yourself and you’ll feel great. C: There are many voices in my head. What do I do to stop them?

Top New Year’s Traditions Foods to strengthen your immune system to try this year! Yomna Hesham

1- Afraid that 2014 will be cold and lacking in affection? Spend New Year’s with the close ones to encourage a year of love and warmth! 2- Some people believe that eating poultry on New Year’s like chicken and turkey brings misfortune for the coming year. Eat red meat and lentils – Italy believes it brings wealth and fortune through the next year. 3- Want to scare off the ghost haunting your closet? Make a lot of noise at midnight. The Chinese believe that loud noises and setting off fireworks scare away evil spirits, leaving the new year open for good fortune. 4- The Babylonians were celebrating New Year’s as early as 4000 B.C. that’s over 6000 years ago! Make a resolution in the spirit of the Babylonians and promise yourself something new this year – try to keep it! 5- Can’t get enough of celebrating? Celebrate New Year’s again with the Chinese! Celebrate the Chinese New Year’s this year on Jan. 31, 2014! Watch a dragon and tiger parade, dress in red, give money to children and set off some fireworks to dispel evil and welcome fortune into your life. 6- Follow the Japanese and start the new year with a clean slate. Pay off
your debts; resolve any conflicts; and forgive and forget! Fully clean your home and ring a bell 108 times to eliminate past problems – one ring per problem. 7- Write down your hopes and dreams for the coming year! It’s an untraceable tradition that spans across several cultures. Check them out again at the end of the year and be surprised at how much you achieved! 8- Learn the lyrics of Auld Lang Syne, the 200-year-old Scottish song, online and sing along and rejoice in the time gone by and surviving friendships. 9- The first baby of the year is showered with gifts and considered to be good luck! Traditionally the baby was paraded through the villages and towns and local businesses, and laborers gift the new born with great gifts. 10- Keep it simple! Have a modern day celebration: gather friends and families and have a party at home or at a restaurant. Eat great food and drink. Want something a little more exciting? Go out on the street or go clubbing and dance the past year away. Alternatively you can watch the new year pass throughout the whole day across the world on channels like BBC.
Talk of the town

en are on a diet. Sometimes I think that is like a kind of a new trend since everyone is obsessed with the idea of diet. If you are on a diet, you might be waiting for the free day. But let me tell you something about that free day. Free day is a disaster for many of us because there is a misunderstanding at one specific point which is, it’s not actually a free “day” rather it’s a free meal and it’s ruled. For example, you don’t actually eat a complete fast food meal. You’re only allowed to eat the sandwich or if you want to eat pasta with red or white sauce, it must be a small portion of it not a full plate. Don’t forget not to drink a lot of soda drinks.
Every once in a while a craze would pop up and become the talk of the town with a lot of hype surrounding it. Our society is constantly seeking what’s new whether clothing lines, electronic devices, TV shows, etc. until something else comes along to replace it. Such interventions help grow new interests and create an atmosphere of change – change is certainly good. Did it really snow in Cairo? Like real snow with the white stuff and everything? As a matter of fact, it happened and according to the talk around town, it hasn’t snowed in Cairo since 122 years. These days you’ll hear about it everywhere you go. Of course the precise timeframe is not quite clear but if you ask anybody who’s been living in Cairo for long, they’ll probably say that
1- Elderberry
6- Cabbages
This is not a well-known plant. Its extract has the ability to stop the growth of flu virus. It’s a powerful and strong anti-oxidant for the treatment of infections.
All kinds of cabbages are healthy and full of glutamine tonic for the immune system.
2- Mushrooms Most of us don’t know the importance of mushrooms. But besides its deliciousness, it is also an important source of vitamins that help the immune system improve. The studies also proved that mushrooms are antidotes and are effective with viruses, bacteria and tumors. 3- Acai berry These purple berries are small, yet full of anti-oxidants, which are powerful on diseases and anti-aging in general. 4- Oysters

they’re a first-timer to witness such an incident. When something like this blows out of the water, people get so psyched because they would almost do anything to feel a change in life. It’s very exhilarating; some residents of the areas where it snowed were jumping up and down. They built snowmen, took photos for this memorable event and shared them with friends and family. It also snowed in Alexandria and Saint Catherine. The funny thing is that Cairo, with hot desert climate all over the year, is covered in white snow on one freezing Friday. Tourists who live in that kind of freezing weather yearn for Cairo’s sunlight. It feels a bit like photo merge, mixing hot Cairo with its camels and pyramids with snowflakes. What do you know!
Oysters are full of zinc and are a delicious kind of food, too. 5- Watermelons Watermelons are delicious and refreshing, and their vitamins are vital.
7- Grapefruit Grapefruit is full of vitamin C and other vitamins stimulating the immune system, but if you don’t like it, you can replace it with orange and mandarin. 8- Tea Whether it’s black or green tea, both kinds contain anti-oxidant flavonoids and anti-oxidants to disease. 9- Broccoli It’s a very delicious vegetable and you can add it to a bowl of salad. It’s full of anti-oxidants and gluthione. 10- Low-fat yogurt One cup per day has the ability to reduce the chances of getting a cold or flu infection.

“Aswan is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.” I was really fed up with hearing this sentence without having a chance to check it out myself. Therefore, I decided to take the next train with my siblings and have a one lifetime experience in this unforgettable city. I picked a small, humble hotel without Wi-Fi or TV to take advantage of every single moment enjoying the beauty of the city – but with a remarkable view over the yacht harbor. On day 1, I took a small ferry in the Nile to “Jazerat Aswan,” which is an amazing place in the heart of the Nile in front of “Jazerat Al-Nabatat.” I was so delighted feeling welcomed by the smiles of its inhabitants and being embraced by the narrow streets. I visited “Al-Bayt Al-Nubi,” which is an actual house that belonged to “Al-bashmohandes Hasan” who opened it for tourists with a marvelous souvenir shop. On day 2, I went to Philae Temple in the morning. It is located in an island in the middle of the Nile, so motorboats are used for transportation. I was stunned by the charming central doorway and the glorious atmosphere. Unfortunately, I did not have time to refresh my historical background, so I was wandering through the colonnades touching the walls as if they would tell me the story of the temple. And all of a sudden, when I reached “Trajan’s Kiosk,” a miracle happened! A member of the archaeological restoration team came across me. An instinct told him that I was looking for the ancient secrets of this magnificent place and we talked. For an hour, I was living in a fantasy world of mythical stories about the brave wife, Isis, her eternal journey to
restore her husband’s body, Horus, his war against his uncle, evil Seth, and the beautiful story of Anas Al-Wogod and his desperate trials to marry Zahrat AlWard. Moreover, he explained to me the relocation process to Temple of Hathor – which I was lucky to witness part of – and how each stone should be numbered and replaced in the same position in the new location. In the afternoon, I visited the gorgeous village “Gharb Soheil” and spent an amazing evening there. On day 3, I enjoyed a magical sailboat ride in the Nile with my siblings. There is something different about the Nile in Aswan. I felt like I was in a painting where everything is so vivid. Moreover, we did something that is so cliché: drinking water from the Nile. I will never forget its incredibly pure taste and wish to return to the same spot to drink again. The other half of the day was my best part. A Nubian guide called “Bassam” took us in a magical journey to “Gharb Aswan,” one of the Nubian villages that were not exposed to flood and relocation. No words could express the extraordinary beauty of this authentic village. People there are very relaxed sitting in front of their houses, drinking tea and chatting about daily life matters. We sat there on a bench by the Nile drinking juice and enjoying the sunset. Bassam talked to us about the life in Aswan, his tourism career and the dreams of Nubian youth. It was an enchanting evening that I wished not to end. Then, I asked him if I and my sister could have henna tattoos. So we went to a “hannana” who was so talented. Waiting for the henna to dry, I played with a small crocodile that was about to eat my finger. Then, we drank tea at Bassam’s sister’s house, which was a typical, amazing Nubian one. On the train back to reality, I realized two things. Firstly, this unplanned trip turned out to be the best experience I ever had and secondly, heaven exists on earth.
Three things I love about Cairo
This is an adaptation to the “I am Cairo Love Campaign” emphasizing all the reasons why we love her. If you love Cairo and you know it, get the “I love Cairo” stickers from www.iamcairo.com. 1- Fine weather throughout the year Cairo is endowed with outstanding weather during all seasons with sunny summer and temperate winter. 2- Historical Cairo chronicles epic events in the course of history – a history that is unparalleled. 3- Cairene nature Cairo’s beauty resides partially in the characteristics of its people – simple, funny, kind, generous and endearing. Send us reasons why you love Cairo at
Giza pyramids are considered as one of the most attractive sites in Egypt. Many tourists from all over the world come just to see these great pyramids. They are also one of the world’s seven wonders. Each one differs from the other in size and name. These pyramids are from A to Z man-made and their history goes back to thousands of years ago. That’s why everybody is totally amazed and still wonders till now how they were built because of their firm and giant structures and the genius way of dividing the rooms inside. The first and biggest one is called Khufu
or Cheops. Inside the first pyramid you can find a lot of valuable paintings as you go deeper and deeper. You will also find at the end of the path the tomb of the king. And the second one is Khafre or Chephren and the third one is called Menkaure or Mycerinus. Not so far away from the three pyramids a giant structure stands; it’s called the Great Sphinx also known as Abu Al-Hul. It consists of a body of a lion with a human face. Ancient Egyptians believed that this sphinx has the ability to protect the pyramids from any theft.

Dear Read er,
Tipping in Cairo is of the essence. You enjoy a great meal at a restaurant but in the end you have to tip the servers, then you go to the restroom to wash up but you have to tip the woman giving you toilet paper, then you get into your car but guess what, there’s a guy demanding money for standing there while parking your car, like it’s his prerogative. Not trying to be negative here but just shedding light on something that even happens everywhere in the world. If you’re a tourist in Cairo, take into consideration the factor of tipping because it could lead to some unexpected nasty repercussions. There’s a very thin line between tipping and giving money: one is in exchange for service and the other out of goodwill. That’s why it’s a very sensitive matter. You want to do what’s morally right but at the same time it shouldn’t be an affliction. There are many models of people who seek tips that you’ll come across, especially in Egypt. For example, camel rides necessitate that you tip the person leading your camel and it’s not even negotiable, so always be prepared for a generous tip and DON’T wait until the end of the ride because you might not get off the camel without offering money; that rarely happens though. If they seem disappointed, either take your money back or say that it was enough; after all beggars can’t be choosers! Don’t let some incident ruin your trip. Another thing you should do with all cases is smile and have some sound judgment regarding who you are tipping and how much. The waiter is not the same as bellman or a driver. Always ask around and check what rates are charged for each. Although it’s widely practiced, tipping in Cairo is different because people would profoundly appreciate any little courtesy from your side and idealize you for even the slightest smile.

charged double the fare because the cab driver kept the meter running for extra time that I wasn’t even aware of. It turns out that they were acquaintances and they split it fifty-fifty but what can I say other than “land of mafia!”
What to do:
Hospitality and excellent service are a part and parcel of any hotel industry. Ergo, not feeling welcome or being mistreated are the worst experiences to go through when staying at a hotel. You leave your home and expect to go to another home. It’s a place where you feel at home. Also when preparing for accommodation, don’t expect it to be a package deal, meaning, you could stay at a 2-star hotel that offers high level of personalized and professional service and another luxurious, renowned hotel that offers very poor service. These are some instances you might encounter for poor service: you order room service but is awfully late or irresponsive; the receptionist is rude and unfriendly or doesn’t speak English, which is a laugh; you ask for something and get another; the hotel rips you off every step of the way; the concierge misleads you with ill-advised information. That reminds me of a situation in Rome, Italy, when I was checking out and asked the receptionist to order a cab to the airport. He amazingly called the cab earlier than agreed so I was
• Review hotel Before booking, read all reviews thoroughly because they do make a difference. If a hotel is poorly rated, then don’t bother staying there; you’ll find a thousand other alternative hotels to stay at. • Double checking when arriving If for any reason you find yourself stuck with that hotel when there’s no way out, then first thing at check-in ensure you got all you paid for, regarding the room, payment method and so on to avoid surprises. • Avoid clashes with staff If you receive any kind of mistreatment, just ignore it and speak with the manager or superior at once. Don’t count on them though because usually they stick together and throw the blame on guests even if they’re wrong. I’ll never forget a hotel in Antalya, Turkey, without mentioning names of course, where it refused to let people in with water bottles and wouldn’t even turn on the AC although it was 41degrees Celsius and I was literally chocking. Anyways, we got into an argument with the hotel manager and ended up paying a visit to the police station. Yes, it was that ugly! • Be assertive There are times when you just have got to not take no for an answer and be reasonable; don’t lose it, otherwise everybody’ll start suspecting you. Things will eventually work out when sorted in peace. • The final straw If all else fails, immediately request a refund and search the area for another hotel; should be pretty easy.

Traveling is without question the best life coach and experience you’ll get. Everything surrounding you is new and different. It’s an incredible feeling to leave your everyday bubble and hear new sounds, see new faces and figures, eat new food with different tastes, get exposed to a new kind of climate and learn about a history that doesn’t seem remotely connected to yours. When you get out of the box, the world starts to get wider in your eyes to a broad universe out there filled with endless sounds, tastes, colors, faces and scenes. taking nature, taking photos but oops – empty battery. You don’t want this to happen again; could seriously piss you off. To avoid something of that sort, always make sure that all the batteries are fully charged. Also check your carryon luggage for backup batteries in case the primary one is dead. This is for all electronic devices: cameras, cell phones, laptops, mp3s and other devices that require portable batteries. While charging, offer a time frame of four hours maximum. Don’t overcharge the batteries though because that compromises battery life and may even damage them. Also keeping them in freezing cold places could diminish charge life although it’s not a permanent effect.

“Field of Reeds” was the name for the ancient Egyptians’ afterlife and that is why
they kept building the pyramids and kept taking good care of them. They believed
that there is something called afterlife, which was encouraging enough to live a life full of peace and they never wanted to harm people. They also knew the importance of keeping the environment safe. They kept putting a lot of things beside
the mummy because they will wake up and live again. So, they put different kinds
of foods and gold and everything that was thought to help in their afterlife. After
death, they had to undergo a trial under the supervision of the judge of the dead, Osiris, in the Hall of Truth.
Before going to the Hall of Truth, the soul is led to make the forty-two negative
confessions first so the soul will be purified before the judgment itself. The soul’s salvation is always ended with the “I am pure” statement and the soul repeats it
many times. For them, repeating this statement many times will make the heart even lighter. They have to put on one side of the scales a feather and on the other one the soul’s heart. If the soul’s heart was lighter than the feather then the soul was freely admitted into the bliss of the Field of Reeds. Should the heart prove
heavier, however, it was thrown to the floor of the Hall of Truth where it was devoured by Amenti (a god with the face of a crocodile, front of a leopard and back
of a rhinoceros) and the individual soul then would cease to exist. There was no ”hell” for the ancient Egyptians; their ”fate worse than death” was nonexistent.
After all, the ancient Egyptians were not totally obsessed with the idea of death.
Actually they loved the life they lived at that time. They loved dancing, mummifying, hunting, fishing and family gatherings just like we enjoy our days.

It is true that we enjoy a big deal of freedom now in Egypt in many fields of life. Today, women have their rights; they serve now in all levels of Egyptian society as doctors, lawyers, scientists, businesswomen and even judges. The common dress now has turned to be more conservative like long skirts, long sleeved blouses and loose trousers. Many women are convinced that it’s a kind of protection for them from sexual harassment. In fact, this dress code is totally different from the 60s and 70s periods. Women in these periods had more freedom to wear short skirts and hippie flower dresses. They didn’t suffer any sexual abuse because people at that time had principles and morals, which disappeared these days. Of course, all of us have this feeling of nostalgia; we need to travel back to the beautiful era reliving it with its kind people, easy life, clean streets and charming music. It is known as the “Golden Age of Rock.” The 70s witnessed the rise of a rough music and more types of music; this influenced the style and the look of men, as they had the Beatles look. The Beatles were an English rock band, who had long hair and wore flared trousers, where the flare started from the knee to the bottom of the pants. These were often paired with loud
shirts with big collars. Platform shoes were popular and younger; more fashionable men were not afraid to wear them. All of us enjoy watching black and white Arabic films from the 60s and 70s to get pleasure from every single detail in them. It’s a kind of interest in the past; even if you haven’t lived this period, you can adore it and feel captivated in it. Furthermore, we cannot forget Abd el-Halim Hafez the muchloved Egyptian singer and Um Kulthoum with her charming voice. Lastly, we can steal these moments and live them now if we learned from our ancestors’ lifestyle and how they lived this peaceful, calm and healthy life. We can turn our life completely if we decide to make it better.

Soad Hosny, a late Egyptian celebrity. Soad Mohmed Hosny was an Egyptian actress of a Syrian father of Kurdish descent born in Ataba, Cairo, Egypt on Jan. 26, 1943. She was nicknamed “Cinderella of Egyptian Cinema” and she was one of the most famous actresses in the Middle East. Hosny ascended to stardom in the end of the 1950s, performing in more than 83 films. The majority of her films were shot in the 1960s and 1970s. Her first film was Hassan and Na’ima with the Egyptian star Moharram Fouad. The film was produced and directed by Henry Barakat. Soad Hosny was married five times, actually one of them was (unofficially) the Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez, and unfortunately her marriages always ended with divorce. She is also the sister of the Syrian Egyptian singer Najat El-Saghira; that’s why she was gifted by such a beautiful voice. When we talk about Soad Hosny then we are talking about femininity, beauty and charm; she is a major symbol of a real woman. Some of her special films are Khally Balak Min Zouzou, Hob Fi El-Zinzana, Gharib Fi Bayti, El Safira Aziza, Al-Zawja Al- Thanya and Al-Raii Wa Al-Nesaa, and this was her last film in 1991, directed by her ex-husband Ali Badrakhan. After that, Soad Hosny suffered severely from an unknown illness for about five years before travelling to London for treatment. Hosny started to gain weight and avoid spots in order to protect her image; she wanted people to remember the funny, energetic and pretty Soad. She never expected her tragic end to die alone in a foreign country away from her family and friends. She was found a dead body under her balcony. Nobody could solve the riddle of her death till now, whether Hosny had committed suicide or had been killed. Mystery will always surround this dark day, June 21, 2001.

Think of a “disruptive” business
Ahmed Essa The events in the Middle East today are forcing everyone to adapt to the new reality. It can be likened to the United States in the 1960s. The American counterculture has contributed greatly to the high-tech explosion. Now, companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter dominate the headlines. But unlike in America, the change in the Middle East will be measured in months, not decades. There are so many things that can be changed in the region for the better. And there is no question about it: the Arab world is ready for change. So on an individual level, how can you take advantage of it? In this mini article, we’ll give you the
idea
When you hear the word “disruptive,” images of chaos and unwanted change come to mind. But disruption can also be highly positive! Just think of how cars disrupted the world for the better and how Google changed the way information is searched for and received; you get the idea. Now, what other disruptive ideas can you think of? Once you have the answer, it’s time to act on it! Expand your business abroad With the internet, cloud computing and logistical ease right now, it is so easy to take your idea elsewhere and disrupt how the world works on a global scale. Expanding abroad is also important
because it allows you to tap into the resources of crowdfunding, venture capitalists and foreign investors. So what are you waiting for? All it takes is to develop confidence in your own ideas and develop bridges that can take your business forward. There is, indeed, massive opportunities in the Middle East today. There are currently no dominant brands in most of the fields. In addition, 300 million people consider Arabic as their native language and the number of international content such as books and shows that have been translated in their language is miniscule. Following the connectivity era, it is now the time for content creation, supremacy and advocacy.

Managing time and stress Dr. Hanan Abdel Moniem As many of us have heard before, if you don’t take care of yourself, who will? Together, we will explore the concept of self-management. Being able to manage oneself is a lifelong process and requires self-awareness and a continued willingness to make changes in our attitudes and behavior. The ability to manage oneself gives leaders credibility. With reference to the “Institute of Certified Professional Managers, Management Skills, Third Edition,” in order to be an effective role model, it is important to be effective in self-management. Time and stress, along with emotional intelligence, are concepts closely associated with self-management. We will discuss how to overcome barriers to interpersonal effectiveness so that you can devote your full energies to doing what it takes to succeed as a manager. According to Patricia B. Sikora in “Updating Theory on Organizational Stress: The Asynchronous Multiple Overlapping Change (AMOC) Model of Workplace Stress, Human Resources Development Review 3,” time manage-
ment is the ability to allocate our time and resources to accomplishing our objectives. Skill in managing how we spend our time allows us to prioritize and accomplish more goals in life, resulting in a sense of well-being because we are able to see the fruits of our labors. It gives us a chance to achieve a balance between work and personal life that can be more satisfying, as opposed to restricting our activities to one arena at the expense of the other. Effective managers find that time management increases productivity. The popular saying, “work smarter, not harder” applies here. By focusing our energy on well-chosen activities, we can actually see our results. This in itself can be motivating, which can then increase our drive to achieve even more.
What distinguishes top performers from those who are just moderately successful? Naturally our generic history, family background, education and work history affect the opportunities that are available to us and our ability to seek and choose among these opportunities. And to be honest, plain luck, “being in the right place at the right time,” is a factor in one’s success. More and more, however, we are realizing that our ability to manage and allocate time and to handle our response to stress have a lot to do with the extent to which we ultimately succeed, in life as well as in business. Stress management: Stress plays an important role in how we live our lives and whether not we succeed in the tasks we undertake. According to Victor M. Rojas and Brian H. Kleiner in “The Art and Science of Effective Stress Management,” stress is a factor of personal and organizational life. Stress can be beneficial (Eustress) when it generates
enthusiasm and productivity but can be counterproductive (distress) when it dampens our spirits and negatively impacts our mental or physical health. Stress management refers to our efforts to control and reduce the tensions that occur in stressful situations. Stress, when not understood or managed, can result in a variety of responses, including physiological, psychological and organizational responses. A physiological response is one in which physical problems develop as a result of mental anguish. Heart disease, high pressure, bulimia, anorexia nervosa, migraine headaches, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, asthma, diabetes, allergies, skin disorders, cholesterol and weakened body defenses are some examples of physical conditions that are often brought on by mental stress. Psychological effects are not always as readily identifiable as physiological responses. Depression, sudden bursts of violence or anger, anxiety, chemical dependency, alcohol abuse and phobias are examples of psychological reactions to stressful situations. It is an irony that we can’t actually “manage” time. We can’t change the amount of time we have. There are only 24 hours in a day, 168 in a week. We manage ourselves in order to be more efficient with our time. We can concentrate on the choices we make and be aware of what’s motivating us to make them. We can focus on getting things done by being productive – getting the right things done on time, on budget and through the use of all our resources. Strategies for time management include the following: Plan and prioritize: Planning is essential in effective time management. The min-
utes you spend organizing your schedule can save you hours of time during your week. Heed the words of Benjamin Franklin, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” Get in the habit of preparing “to do” lists. Follow the “80/20” rule: An estimated 80 percent of results are achieved from 20 percent of focused time. This includes spending more time doing useful activities, tracking what makes that 20 percent so productive, and making the transition of devoting more time to productive work.
Plan for your time-specific activities and non-time-specific activities. For “time-specific” activities, determine in advance how close to completing the task you want to be by a certain time. This requires self-discipline and allows you to budget your time and accomplish more than you would in a nontime-bound scenario. Also plan your downtime. Everyone needs a break to rest and recharge. Oddly enough, you can actually get more work done if you take several short breaks than if you don’t.
Find your optimal working time – referred to as your biological “prime time”: Plan to maximize use of this time by scheduling and doing demanding jobs during these peak periods and less demanding tasks at other times.
Prioritize tasks by level of importance: Vital and important should be done today. Break complex tasks or projects down into manageable steps and set up a time line for completing each step. Organize: Choose or set up the right environment for the task. This may require you to clear away unnecessary materials, reduce distractions (turn off phone or close door) and eliminate environmental interference (music). If all else fails, go to a place, where you can work without distractions. Delegate: Determine what tasks and activities would be possible to allocate among others. Clearly specify the task, expected outcomes and deadline for completion. Differentiate between what’s urgent and what’s important: Most of us spend time on what’s urgent – those unplanned events that are often thrust on us by others and beg for your immediate attention. Invest time on what’s important – those priorities that are meaningful and to which you are committed to spending time on. Avoid postponing Remember, planning and directing action to the long-term outcome may redirect your energy and help you stay focused on your overall priorities (remember the 80/20 rule) while continually monitoring your progress and revising your plans as necessary.

If the release date were true, many are speculating that there’ll be cutting-edge improvements and that indicates upgrades to both graphics and software. The unhappy GTA fans even organized a petition addressed to Rockstar Games, requesting that the game be released on PC. The petition has reached 500,000 signatures so far. The latest version of GTA has been upgraded with some new features like the “Capture” team mode, which creates a new form of team-versus-team treachery into GTA Online, and also “Deathmatch & Race Creators,” enabling the player to spawn matches in any location in the city and customize weapons and vehicles.

Empowering digital economy in Egypt
Mohamed Samir Shabeeb
Previously, we talked about the digital economy examples and models in our life. But we need to know its definition and its role in developing and gaining profits. Firstly, we should consider the Australian model in digital economy examples and case studies because they have the most powerful digital economy. The Australian government defines digital economy to be “the global network of economic and social activities that are enabled by information and communication technologies, ”such as the internet, mobile and sensor networks. That means every activity you do electronically or by paying through visa in any place is a part of digital economy. The future of digital economy in Egypt will need to have a big collaboration between the government, businesses and the community. The government is responsible for awareness campaigns and enabling businesses to invest digitally after supporting households and the community in order to engage with businesses. That could happen by giving them the opportunity to buy cheap computers or low internet membership fees. Therefore, it empowers them to participate in digital activities. The responsibility of businesses is the most important factor in digital economy success by adopting smart technologies and being innovative for sustainable growth. Community or households will receive many benefits from online engagement and experience inclusive digital participation after being empowered by the government and attracted by businesses. Egypt started its first steps toward the digital economy establishment by launching the PayPal service, five months ago. Note: These concepts are illustrated by the Australian digital economy ministry.
Debtors – Entrepreneurs should ensure that as little cash as possible is tied up in debtors. Initially as many sales as possible should be on a cash basis and any credit sales should be collected on a timely basis.
Owner’s remuneration – Initially
owners should take as little money out of the business as possible to help ensure that the company remains solvent and all excess funds are available to reinvest in the business. The tips above can help you run your business better. A shortage of working capital is one of the major reasons that small companies go bankrupt. To maximize working capital and grow the business, owners must carefully manage the above-mentioned factors and ensure that they do not overstretch the company by expanding too rapidly. Organic growth achieved through efficient management helps to put the company on a sound economic footing and the absence or reduction of debt reduces the entity’s risk profile even if growth is achieved at a slower pace.
Ahmed Essa One of the biggest challenges among startups is their ability to move ahead and expand without getting additional funds. Any entrepreneurs will tell you that they have struggled to raise additional funds or investments at one time or another. Fortunately, it is still possible to grow the business if it is carefully managed. In any enterprise, a key component of success is the business’s ability to generate cash. Primarily the business generates cash through its profitability but there are other tools at the owner’s disposal that will help to alleviate any cash shortages. Here are some things to consider. Assets – Entrepreneurs should use the matching principle. Long-term assets should be funded through longterm financing. For example, a vehicle could be purchased on hire purchase or leased. Thus, instead of spending 70 or 80 thousand pounds in cash, only a deposit of, say, 15 thousand is required and the rest of the cash can be channeled into other areas of the business to allow it to grow.

Your ride, which you give a nickname and consider as your best friend, is one of your most precious belongings; in return you have to take good care of it and be gentle because once it runs out of patience, it’ll fly off the handle like a ticking time bomb. A lot of things could go wrong on the road even if you run regular checkups. Your vehicle is susceptible to malfunctions at any time. Hence, there are quick and basic troubleshooting tips that will enable you to do it yourself. You know when you have one of those days that start off on the wrong foot and to top it off, you get a flat, or a puncture? Well you’re going to have to do something about it. It’s simple. First of all, you must pull over immediately and turn hazard lights on. Clear the car seats and trunk to lighten load on vehicle. Make sure that your vehicle is stable and not rolling on its own; you can do this by placing a piece of wood or brick in front of and behind the wheel. Get your spare tire and tools: screwdriver, lug wrench and jack. Using the lug wrench, turn the lug nuts counterclockwise to loosen them. Then use the jack to lift the car up once it’s positioned on the ground, kept level and close to the flat whether front or rear. Raise it but not entirely, leaving little space under the wheel. Double check that the jack is stable and adjust it to easily slip the tire off. Now place your spare on the wheel and screw in all of your lugs until tight. You’ve replaced the tire all by yourself.

Cairo local music:
diversity or contradiction?
Enaam Ali
If you take a cab from Zamalik to go to Manial, for example, and the driver takes you through Nile Corniche, first you will pass by the area of the luxurious hotel of Hilton, then just under 6th of October Bridge, there is the area of the Nile where people rent small boats. After that you head for also the luxurious hotel of Semiramis. The area under the bridge, where you rent the small feluccas, is what I like to call “The Noise of Cairo.” These seconds passing by this area will transfer to your ear the strangest noise ever. There are corn and snacks sellers, along with flower sellers. Add to all this, the pedestrians themselves. The biggest part of the noise comes from down the river. You cannot see it, but you definitely can hear it. It is the music played by the felucca people. It is the “new” local music nowadays in Cairo. The new local music of Cairo has almost the same melody and tunes. It is very loud and mostly uses percussion instruments. The lyrics are likely to be sadder than happy ones. One of the famous people who sing this is a duet called Oka and Ortega.
Words of wisdom
Many people believe that this new type of music, if called music, is a shame on the industry. But let’s take a deeper look into it. We cannot hide our feelings that it has spread fast among people, not in local areas but also within other “more cultured” classes. Few cultured people think this is another sign of the contradiction in Egypt. We have singers like Angham and now we have music like this, two totally contradictive poles. Thinking more about it, many others believe it is a diversity of music. The reason why it spread so fast is because people like its beat and the lyrics and it is definitely fun to dance to. It introduces us to a world of Cairo that most of us do not deal with in our daily lives. This music is a connection between people in different social classes. It decreases the gap between people in Cairo. Maybe we do not dress or eat the same, but we definitely dance the same to the beat of this music. At the end, the question remains, is this type of music a contradiction to the norms of society, or is it simply another diverse feature in the society of Cairo?
