Le Montreux est le vétéran de la flotte Belle Epoque, alors même qu’il est équipé de la machine à vapeur la plus récente, une machine télécommandée par le capitaine depuis la passerelle et qui fonctionne sans intervention du mécanicien – une première mondiale! L’histoire du bateau a été plutôt mouvementée. Il subit une première grande transformation entre 1959 et 1961: installation d’un groupe de propulsion diesel-électrique et profonde métamorphose de sa silhouette et de sa décoration intérieure. En 1998, à l’occasion de son 125e anniversaire, la CGN se lance dans un ambitieux programme de «revaporisation» des quatre unités historiques qui avaient perdu leur machine à vapeur d’origine au profit d’un groupe diesel-électrique (le Vevey en 1955, l’Italie en 1958, le Montreux en 1959 et l’Helvétie en 1977). Le Montreux sera finalement le seul à bénéficier d’une revaporisation, qui s’accompagnera d’une restauration importante de tous les aménagements intérieurs, de la coque et des superstructures. Ce sera la première rénovation complète d’un bateau Belle Epoque de la CGN. ✵

CHARACTERISTICS – Twin vessel of the Général-Dufour (built in 1905, decommissioned in 1965 and broken up in 1977). – Woodwork of the 1st class salon from the Valais dismantled in 2003. – The most extensive transformation of any boat of the fleet, but then it was also the oldest. – Prototype, as far as the shape is concerned, of the current boats and, at the same time, the last remaining witness of “heavy” type boats.

The Montreux is the veteran of the Belle Epoque fleet, despite the fact that it is equipped with the most recent steam engine that can be controlled remotely by the captain from the bridge and that works without the intervention of a mechanic – a world’s first! The history of the boat has been somewhat eventful. It underwent a first major transformation between 1959 and 1961, with the installation of a diesel-electric propulsion unit and a complete metamorphosis of its outline and its interior décor. In 1998, to celebrate its 125th anniversary, the CGN began an ambitious “return to steam” project for the four historic boats which had seen their original steam engines replaced by a diesel-electric unit over the years (the Vevey in 1955, the Italie in 1958, the Montreux in 1959 and the Helvétie in 1977). Ultimately, the Montreux would be the only vessel to benefit from the re-introduction of steam power, accompanied by a major refurbishment of all its interior fixtures and a renovation of both the hull and the superstructures. This was the first full renovation of a boat in the CGN’s Belle Epoque flee. ✵

ÉTÉ (du 19 juin au 4 septembre): l’après-midi, croisière au départ de Lausanne à 14h45 desservant Saint-Gingolph –Le Bouveret – Chillon – Montreux – Vevey-Marché –Rivaz – Cully – Lutry – Pully – Lausanne (arrivée à 17 h 55). Le soir, Croisière gourmande du Beau-Rivage Palace au départ de Lausanne à 18 h 55 direction Yvoire via Saint-Sulpice – Morges – Saint-Prex – Rolle. Retour à Lausanne à 22 h 30.

Evenings, Beau-Rivage Palace gourmet cruise leaving from Lausanne at 18:55, calling at Yvoire via Saint-Sulpice –Morges – Saint-Prex – Rolle. Return to Lausanne at 22:30.
