Welcome Bon Bini
IT TAKES A TEAM AS YOU ENJOY YOUR FLIGHT TODAY, I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO THE TEAM OF PEOPLE INVOLVED IN MAKING YOUR JOURNEY POSSIBLE. THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY TODAY IS COMPLEX AND VERY DYNAMIC, WITH LOTS OF DIFFERENT PARTIES INVOLVED. BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER A FLIGHT IS OPERATED, IT IS ALWAYS THE AIRLINE THAT CARRIES THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A SAFE AND COMFORTABLE TRIP. FOR YOU, THE PASSENGER, IT IS THE AIRLINE THAT IS AT THE FOREFRONT AND IT RECOGNIZABLE VIA ITS CHECK-IN AGENTS, PILOTS, CABIN ATTENDANTS AND THE RAMP HANDLERS WHOM YOU SEE AND CONNECT WITH, BUT THERE ARE MANY MORE PLAYERS THAT WORK TO MAKE YOUR TRIP A SUCCESS. BY EDWARD HEERENVEEN, CHIEF INTERNATIONAL & GENERAL AFFAIRS

rom the ticket agent or website where you purchased your ticket, the operations and scheduling departments that help ensure your plane and crew are where they are supposed to be, the maintenance team that ensures your aircraft is safe and fully operational, the aircraft marshals that make sure the aircraft is ready to be loaded and unloaded properly, the catering department that verifies that enough snacks and beverages are onboard for your comfort and enjoyment, the fuel companies that ensure a safe refueling of the aircraft, the security teams that provide for all passenger safety, the aircraft cleaners that make sure you have a comfortable journey, and all of the supporting staff, are all essential players in the team working to get you to your destination safe, comfortable and satisfied. So, apart from the very important smile of the crew on board, it is

the way you were greeted and treated at the gate and, of course, the flight experience that determines whether you have a lasting positive image of InselAir. It takes the effort of every member of our team to achieve this goal.
OUR CREW Having said this, you, our passenger, are likely most concerned with the experiences you come in direct contact with when traveling with InselAir. We are proud to say that we are very privileged to have an outstanding team who, in the end, are the real face and voice of InselAir to our customers during these 10 years that InselAir has been flying. Both in good times and in challenging times we rely on their professionalism, people skills and sense of responsibility to take care of you, our valued passenger.
STAY IN TOUCH For us to be able to serve you better, we would like to stay in touch with you. We kindly ask you, when making a reservation through Fly-InselAir.com, your travel agent or through one of our ticket offices, to always leave your contact details and sign up for our loyalty program, Insel StarMiles. This will allow us to send information, inform you about our specials, but more important, reach out to you when it is needed in case of flight interruptions, weather conditions or any important information regarding your reservation or journey with us. Hope to see you on board again soon!

FROM COLUMBUS' ARRIVAL TO REGIONAL TRAVEL DESTINATION This region derives much of its historic distinction from the early settlement that Columbus made here. The explorer intended to use the area as a hub for transporting the gold he hoped to find, instead Puerto Plata saw Spanish ships carrying silver finding it as a haven against offshore pirates. Nowadays, travelers can view the legacy of this early colonial period within and near the old city, including easy walking tours of the neighborhoods of narrow streets in nineteenth-century buildings that lead to the period-style Parque Central, a square with a two-story gazebo at its center. This area is also home to an eclectic array of frequently changing bars and restaurants, and walking around is easy because it is a compact district.
14
Some other particular points of historic or local interest to visit while in and around Puerto Plata include: - The San Felipe Cathedral: notable for its twin towers and Art Deco influenced exterior facade; - The 16th-century Fortaleza San Felipe: overlooking Puerto Plata Bay. This oldest of all colonial forts in the hemisphere also has a small museum. - A cable-car ride to the top of the 2,600foot, flat-topped peak of Mount Isabel de Torres: enjoy sweeping vistas of the city and coastline from the observation tower and inspect the gardens.
ACTIVITIES AND ATTRACTIONS The waters near Puerto Plata, while often rough, are still ideal for various aquatic sport so expect to see everything from sailboats to kayaks, to windsurfing and parasailing off some resorts. Your
own hotel may offer water sport activities or instruction as part of your stay, or you can choose an outside operator. One such with a well-established outfit for scuba dives to excellent locations is Sea Pro Divers; they also provide lessons in windsurfing and waterskiing from the beachfronts at both the resort enclaves located within either Costa Dorada and Playa Dorada. For more land-based type adventure to consider that will take you up and into the interiors of the region, one established wide-ranging operator based in Caberete is Iguana Mama. They lead moderate-to-hard hikes up Mount Isabel de Torres, overlooking Puerto Plata and the coast. One of their other best-known outings in the area is called the '27 Falls of Damajagua Cascading Hike'; it requires some stamina and strength, and

Beaches come in every size and color, from the pure volcanic sands near Punta Santiago

Those visiting the Puerto Plata area may opt for one of the many resorts that form part of the Playa Dorada complex or the nearby Costa Dorada complex. This usually means a choice of an all-inclusive property, or the more deluxe level hotel that caters to the individual needs of world-class travelers.

WWF IS THE LEADING CONSERVATION AGENCY IN THE WORLD. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A WWF OFFICE IN THE GUIANAS AND IN GUYANA ESPECIALLY? To help our three nations remain the greenest countries on Earth. An objective that we must achieve not just thanks to our generous natural heritage, but based upon our actions towards a sustainable future for our people and our lands.
WHAT IS THE MOST SPECIAL THING ABOUT THE INTERIOR OF GUYANA? Its incredibly rich biodiversity: Guyana hosts one of the world's most diverse suite of largely intact landscapes, ecosystems and wildlife.

WHAT ARE THE 3 TIPS YOU WOULD GIVE TO TOURISTS TRAVELLING TO GUYANA? 1. Remain curious and be ready to explore the natural wonders and cultural richness. 2. Expect to indulge in 'the real thing': you are in for a rustic and homely experience. 3. Take care of the places you will visit like they are your own. This unique set of traits makes the presence of organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund (who has a regional office in the Guianas, covering Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana) especially pivotal to ensure that conservation is practiced and the environment is protected, whilst also encouraging the development of sustainable practices, such as tourism.
The presence of protected areas such as Kaieteur, Iwokrama or Shell Beach attracts visitors looking for new ways of exploring nature. Ways that include being actively engaged in the conservation of its biodiversity and habitats, while also empowering local communities. Guyana's iconic landscapes and locations go in fact way beyond their immediate and captivating beauty: they play a key role in reestablishing a true link between humans and nature.

Iwokrama is another special place, where biodiversity protection, sustainable uses of forest and eco-tourism have met. A worksite for conservation managed in partnership with local communities on one hand, and one of the natural wonders of Guyana's interior on the other, this protected area features a suspended path set above the forest floor, where tourists can wonder into the thick rainforest canopies and see species that could never be seen from the ground. Iwokrama proves that natural attractions
can also be essential to actively involve Indigenous communities in the conservation of their own lands. Other eco-tourism destinations with similar purposes include the North and South Rupununi, where the local ranch and cattle culture of the Amerindians has found a new purpose within tourism; and Shell Beach, a long stretch of beaches that are important marine turtle nesting grounds, located on the coast close to Venezuela.

2. Antigua's Diverse Sailing and Watersport Worlds English Harbour has become an established favorite with the sailing world EARLY NAVAL HUB AND LONGTIME SAILING PARADISE Antigua's nautical diversity is present along all sides of its coast - ranging from seasonal events and activities on water, to waterfront locations carefully transformed into living museums. The highlights of island naval history lie within the 15 square miles known as Nelson's Dockyard National Park, a district on the winding southern coast that includes English Harbour, Shirley Heights and the sites of forts. English Harbour was founded as a base for the British navy during the late eighteenth century, a turbulent era that saw
English Harbour se fundó como base para la armada británica a finales del siglo XVIII, época turbulenta en la que otras islas del Caribe cambiaron de manos muchas veces entre las grandes potencias coloniales. other Caribbean islands change hands multiple times between the great colonial powers. Thanks to its excellent fortifications and vigilant fleet, Antigua remained British throughout these times. What came to be known as Nelson's Dockyard continued as headquarters for the British Leeward Islands fleet into the mid-nineteenth century but was gradually abandoned until its post-war restoration. Today, visitors explore a renovated collection of buildings that have new identities but which still display much of their original architecture and interior period style.
Preserving this legacy are structures such the Admiral's Inn, the Dockyard Museum, the impressive Copper & Lumber Store, or the Hamilton's restaurant in the old officer's quarters. Outside, the huge stone plinths stand from the Dockyard's days as a naval overhaul base.
A WORLD OF REGATTAS AND FIRST-CLASS RACING Antigua's geographic position and favorable wind and current conditions are key to its prominence on the calendar of Caribbean regatta events. After the Second World War, the restoration of the original dockyard was begun and nowadays, English Harbour and other ports around Antigua have become established favorites with the sailing world.

Antigua's Diverse Sailing and Watersport Worlds - all of which were important for the appearance of the first Antigua Sailing Week, first staged as an informal regatta in the Sixties but now an annual star on the global sailing calendar, attracting over two hundred yachts over five days of races in eight classes. Along with Sailing Week, other seasonal events with a distinct identity include the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, when competitors race their traditional yachts and tall ships, and other special category races drawing loyal competitors such as the Round the Island Race, or Valentine's Day Regatta. Also, races between neighboring islands with Antigua as a key point, such as the RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) Caribbean 600 Yacht Race which winds from Anguilla down to Guadeloupe. Recent years have also brought events for the 'superyacht' class - such as the three-
day Superyacht Challenge Antigua held in January in pursuit races along the island's dramatic southern coast. As in centuries past, the protected inlets at English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour provide ideal anchor for the sailing craft of both local and visiting competing yachtsmen. The facilities and surroundings at the various hosting venues at English Harbour, Admiral's Inn or the Antigua Yacht Club all exude their own authentic ambiance for the celebrations surrounding the regattas. A more elevated panorama of the harbour inlets below is had from the original fortifications at Shirley Heights.
SECLUDED BAYS FOR CLASSIC TO EXTREME NAUTICAL SPORT Along Antigua's east coast conditions that made the island attractive for its classic yachting also favor the more
recent categories of water sport. The best access for extreme watersport is found nowadays at such east coast inlets as Half Moon or Willoughby Bay due to their exposure and the wind variations here. At Nonsuch Bay, one of the most spectacular eastern bays, the combination of reef-sheltered waters and variable winds are idyllic for either kitesurfers or sailing. The offshore presence of little Green Island is another accessible point for all nautical enthusiasts. Making extreme watersport even more available is the ongoing operation at Nonsuch Bay Resort of the 40 Knots Kitesurfing & Windsurf School, which also supports the annual Ride Antigua festival with the resort. At the same time, Nonsuch Bay remains fully engaged with sailing - providing its own fleet of smaller sailing craft and

Book review Reseña del libro URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS, MOUNTAINOUS INTERIORS, COSMOPOLITAN AND COUNTRYSIDE – ALL PROVIDE POWERFUL INSPIRATION FOR THESE NEW BOOKS IN BOTH FICTION AND NON-FICTION.
SAN JUAN NOIR Mayra Santos-Febres [Akashic Books, 2016]
GONE AGAIN James Grippando [HarperCollins, 2016]
IF I'M NOT BACK BY WEDNESDAY Geoffrey Haddad [geoffreyhaddadbooks.com, 2016]
Sometimes told at a breathless pace, at other times in slow and sinister cadences, the short stories in this book collection drawn on contemporary urban settings in the Puerto Rican capital reveal dimensions of life here far beyond the usual commercial outer facades. Instead, the writers bring an awareness of the human fringes of San Juan's neighborhoods that are usually ignored in the tourist guide books or not explored in much depth in the mass media.
For fans of crime fiction with gripping courtroom drama and some truly unusual twists, this latest thriller from Miami-based novelist James Grippando delivers all the perfect ingredients. While Debra and Gavin Burgette, a wealthy divorced couple face the consequences of their foreign adopted teenage daughter's disappearance, the man convicted of murdering this young woman awaits execution. Debra is convinced her daughter is still alive and approaches Miami defense attorney Jack Swyteck with her theory, and Swyteck must pursue unexpected avenues in the race to prevent his client's death sentence.
As 1967 draws to a close on Jamaica, five teenager graduates of Jamaica College, an elite secondary school in the capital of Kingston, set out on a hike that diverges from the established trails into the island's Blue Mountains. Their subsequent experience in which this young group become lost and disoriented, and the attempts to locate them by the Jamaica defense forces, constabulary and frantic family members, form the driving narrative of Geoffrey Haddad's book. Beyond that and perhaps just as important, the wider description of a time and place and its moments of family and social life provide the canvas which brings this first-hand account fully into perspective.
brought alive with chilling detail and insight Revealed in each story are characters in desperate situations far from the wider world's gaze, brought alive with chilling detail and insight - a woman in her final hours mourns the child and marriage she lost, or the reclusive resident of a high-rise apartment building recounts the bizarre end of a young window washer. From the interiors of sleazy bars or chic resort hotels, shabby apartments and in open streets and avenues with no escape, the tales of San Juan Noir trace the doomed routes of their victims and villains with an acute social and tragic awareness. These journeys keep the reader transfixed and understanding this Caribbean city in entirely new ways.
42
BY HAL PEAT
The plot that takes Swyteck from highend neighborhoods to seedier parts of the greater Miami urban map also depicts the personal and professional conflicts of Swyteck himself, his pregnant wife Andie who works for the FBI, and their various associates and adversaries - along with the hidden pasts of the Burgette family. Swyteck's mission to uncover the truth about a troubled young woman becomes an intriguing challenge for this passionate attorney to navigate. Along the way, James Grippando's revelation of his characters and their motives remains empathetic and always insightful.
For readers with a background in Jamaica, roots elsewhere within the Caribbean or from Geoffrey Haddad's generation, this detailed recollection of a harrowing episode in the wild will resonate strongly. While the book is centered on this story of survival in Jamaica's dense interior by a group of young men, the author also delivers an extensive description of the wildlife and natural growth they encountered.. The result is a vivid tale of challenge in the outdoors, of self-sufficiency and team skills, and even a practical guide to others who might undertake their own exploration into what remains the formidable Blue Mountains.

FLAVORS [MARRIOTT] Anton Drachtenweg, Paramaribo, Suriname T (+597) 456-000
This romantic, hidden treasure is just off the Kwattaweg, on the Virolastreet at Uitvlucht. This place, with seating in and outside, attracts all of Paramaribo's young and trendy. The menu offers a lovely variety of Thai dishes and use local ingredients making them even more striking. I find the prices reasonable, but then I am from Manhattan where everything is overpriced, so it seems to me that this kickass place is spot on value. The service is ok as tables are spread over the whole yard so the staff has to run around a lot, but available when you need them.
On the sandy part of Dr. J.F. Nassylaan, you will find a venue that will rock your world. Let no one dare say Suriname does not know about culinary food because here you will meet the Surinamese master, Patrick Woei, the humble owner of Spice Quest who has put a lot of energy into sharing his knowledge with the youth of Suriname to continue the flow of culinary skill and beauty. The ambiance brings up different emotions; outside you can enjoy a lovely romantic meal; inside you have a more intimate setting and upstairs you can party while you eat! The menu includes large variety of reasonably priced dazzling dishes, using local ingredients and a well-selected wine list.
In the Courtyard of the Marriot, you will find this 'badass' restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch and sometimes a 'killer' buffet. The menu is reasonably priced, there is an elegant wine list and the service is outstanding! The breakfast buffet offers a large variety of local dishes that change every day - sometimes they even serve 'pom'. Every buffet offers a wide variety of lovely local and international fruits and dessert, including the mind blowing Bojo, made from coconut and yucca. The evening buffet offers all kinds of pastas, veggies, meat and fish all prepared with great care. On Friday the fish market day is a dream come true with beautiful white fish right from the ocean. The chef prepares it any style you prefer, served with different sauces. On different occasions they have the chef's table, which is Epic; the chef serves 8-9 dazzling dishes of a high end NYC style quality and so reasonably prized.
I start with an elegant cocktail - flavorful and dazzling on my palate followed by a Tom Ka Kai soup to clean my taste buds. This is a fabulous, flavorful Thai chicken soup - lemon grassy, coconutty, not too spicy and with nice chunks of white chicken. I continue with Marinated Beef in a Tamarind Sauce, which is striking and brings heavenly flavors together, however I do not like the beef quality. The Bang Bang, a local fish, steamed with ginger in a black bean sauce is perfectly cooked and delicious. The Green Chicken Curry is another favorite dish and proves they really understand Thai cuisine using a perfect amount of curry paste in the sauce, balancing the flavors beautifully. The most epic dish ever is the Fried Squid Salad with Green Apple (normally with pear) and Cashew. They marinate the salad with sweet and sour spices and it's simply amazing. What an awesome experience! The Banana Fritters are too doughy for me but have lovely sesame and vanilla flavors.
very well balanced and delicious flavors I start with a creamy Tajerblad (local spinach) Soup with some Tempura Butterfish on the side, which is an explosion of flavors on my palate. Although the Beef Carpaccio looks like nothing I've ever seen before, this sweet, crispy, garlic and Teriyaki-flavored dish is 'to die for' and I wouldn't have it any other way. The grilled Salmon Teriyaki, served with local veggies, yams, and okra, is luscious and enjoyable and the Cinnamon Parbo Beer stew, with mashed potatoes and fried plantain, lives up to my imagination - very well balanced and delicious flavors - absolutely my favorite dish of the evening. For dessert, I taste the Watermelon, Orange Meringue, served with a breathtaking pandang rice ice cream: a perfect end to this epic meal! I say: Go Woei! Woei!
I decide to start dinner with a crème of taro (root), which is heavenly with beautiful earthy flavors and a rocking presentation and continue with the Trio of Seafood, which is also perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I must admit, I never knew that smoked Bang Bang could be so flavorful and fabulous and this chef serves it with feta, watermelon, ginger wasabi and caviar, which is right up my alley: all natural flavors and no added salt. My main dish is a lovely piece of meat cooked perfectly, however the cute tortilla cup salad is soggy and flavorless. Dessert is a perfect 10: Chocolate Mud Cake with orgasmic Coulis and I would also recommend their best ever cheesecake, which is whipped into a light and delicious mousse - Epic!

OCEAN DESIGN IS A NEW ZEALAND-BASED DESIGN FIRM THAT LIVES AND BREATHES GROWTH FOR ITS CLIENTS THROUGH INSPIRED LEADERSHIP, BRAND, AND CULTURE PROGRAMS. THEIR SOLE PURPOSE IS TO HELP THEIR PEOPLE, THEIR CLIENTS, AND THEIR ORGANIZATIONS TO REACH THEIR POTENTIAL AND ACHIEVE GREATNESS. A CORE BELIEF OF THEIRS IS THAT GREAT DESIGN CHANGES THINGS FOR THE BETTER.
LEADING YOUR TEAM TO BETTER PERFORMANCE
C
EO Blair Mainwaring prioritizes employee engagement and growth, but had been noticing that Ocean Design was struggling with communication and transparency issues that centered on performance reviews in particular, so he decided to seek out a solution. In fall 2016, Blair and his Director of Communications, Dani, decided to travel to the US in order to gain insights from other leaders around the world. Committed to learning best practices around performance management and employee engagement, Blair and Dani put together an itinerary to travel for six weeks to conferences in Georgia to California and even Washington State.
TINYPULSE PERFORM Not only were Blair and Dani able to see the US states from fresh perspectives that were tied into each conference, but they also were able to connect with leaders

TINYpulse Perform: the next generation of performance management around the globe and learn from experts on best practices and innovative solutions to the problems they were facing at Ocean Design. At TINYcon, an employee engagement-focused conference they attended that was put on by TINYpulse, Blair realized that Ocean Design essentially needed to learn how to better facilitate conversations between managers and employees throughout the year, which was something TINYpulse put great emphasis on. Ultimately, Blair and Dani decided that Ocean Design would start using TINYpulse Perform, which is a new performance
BY NEAL MCNAMARA
management tool used to help facilitate these conversations and prevent issues from getting out of hand. They quickly realized that TINYpulse Perform is the next generation of performance management.
INCREDIBLY EFFECTIVE The tool from TINYpulse saves time by eliminating irregular and unproductive conversations and implementing regular 1:1 meetings each week. It is incredibly effective, as it encourages team members to work together in order to agree on team goals, review performance, and make necessary adjustments, which ultimately helps establish clear objectives. Finally, it is transparent, which is incredibly important in the workplace. TINYpulse Perform fosters a culture of feedback and transparency through regular discussions, as opposed to waiting until the annual performance review to deliver feedback. As Blair and Dani ended their trip and returned to New Zealand, they connected with their team and shared the best practices of keeping transparency and communication high and 1:1 meetings frequent. TINYpulse Perform helped them see the importance of these values and encouraged them to implement these practices at Ocean Design. Blair and Dani realized that finding a tool that is time saving, effective and transparent is mutually beneficial for both themselves, as employers, and their employees, which is exactly what they were seeking.
