FROM MY DESK

On the

2019!

CORNER

he year 2018, was for Brazilians a year of decisions — a year where the entire nation says no to communism. With the election of a new President Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil will again grow and let the country more relieved at the prospect of a better future. Now we can wait for a more proud and just nation for all. And it makes me think that as always, humanity lays its wishes of better days at the turn of the year. In the United States, we also have faced difficult days despite the economy that improves continuously. But letting problems aside, for this edition we decided to get places that allow us to dream of the exquisite pleasure of travel. Gstaad; do you know? A village wedged in the breathtaking Swiss Alps for the wealthy and celebrities. And after many fondues drizzled and the excellent wines, be sure to extend your trip to Paris. Imperative to visit the luxurious Palais Garnier in the Centre of the city of light. Check out the clicks — a real feast for the eyes. In return to your country of origin, ever wonder who builds the planes where you travel? Boeing, by its founder William E. Boeing, a magnificent story of perseverance written over the past 102 years of its Foundation. A justified worldwide leadership. An entire company united by the love of Aviation. And for the aficionados of Formula 1, McLaren has just released a tribute to Ayrton Senna with the launch of the McLaren-Senna car. A little of the magic of Senna is back. A posthumous tribute (more than deserved) to this unique Champion! Cheers!

O

Boeing employs 141.322 professionals in their many subsidiaries and divisions. With total assets of US$92.333 billion and with the operating income of US$10.278 billion. The company is and has been a great success all over the world. One hundred two years of existence! The corporation has five primary divisions: Boeing Commercial Airplanes; Boeing Defense, Space & Security; Engineering Operations & Technology; Boeing Capital, and Boeing Shared Services. The company as we know today is the result of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas merger in August 1997. Boeing is one of the most admired corporations in the world. wealthy from it. The professional experience acquired during his time at the timber company was a major asset for his future to project and assemble planes. William was only 28 years old when he first got to know the birdcage plane and envisioned the future in the skies. Learning to fly. Commercial planes, the new era.

I

nvited by Glenn Martin to fly the seaplane “Birdcage,” William learned to pilot that plane. An adventure that ended up with the crash of the aircraft. Soon after he learned that to receive the parts (to fix the plane), it would take several months. Probably, he saw by then the opportunity to build a supplier industry. Already wealthy and capable of developing a better plane, he envisioned that the “entertainment” side of flying was only one of the doors to the multiple futures uses for planes. It was the birth of a concept.

By then, on May 9, 1917, the company was renamed Boeing Airplane Company, and the company received the first 50 seaplanes order from the Navy. Putting all together, plus the historic moment of World War I, it didn’t take much for William to understand the meaning of aviation and aircraft. A new industry was born. The end of the World War I in 1918 jeopardized many industries ( and the great recession) including Boeing that by that time also was struggling. However, already in 1919, the Boeing B-1 (called flying boat) made its first flight. In May 1920 the Boeing Model 8 was launched. The first plane to fly over Mount Rainier.

Dreamliner 787-9, and the waiting list

I

t is impressive the waiting list for the model Dreamliner 787-9. The majority of Global Aviation companies are waiting to add this majestic plane to their commercial fleet. The wonder aircraft Dreamliner 787-9 has presently 104 net orders to deliver. But also in the production line are more than 631 planes known as the models 737, 747, 767, 777 and 787. Net orders are from global companies such as American Airlines, United Airlines, from Brazil, from Asia and Latin America. The massive organization to produce and deliver such planes is not an easy task. The complexity of production assembles tests to the final moment of its delivery is an enormous responsibility for the company. The history of Boeing and its supremacy has conquered the admiration of the entire industry. One hundred two years of history!

Commercial flights

B

oeing manufactures more than twenty commercial aircraft models such as the 737, 727, 777, 787 amount all others. Many of their variants delivered for military use. Today there are more than 10,000 jetliners in the world for commercial use. Boeing has the most extensive portfolio of services in the Commercial Aviation market.

MCLAREN-SENNA Tech

T

he most extreme road car McLaren has ever built, and the latest model in the McLaren Ultimate Series. Bears the name of legendary Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna, befitting its status as the ultimate McLaren road-legal track car. The most responsive and engaging road-legal McLaren ever, with the purest connection between driver and car. Aggressive appearance epitomizes McLaren’s ‘form follows function’ design philosophy. Mid-engined, rear-wheel drive layout, with advanced RaceActive Chassis Control II (RCC II) suspension and Comfort, Sport, Track and Race handling modes. Active front and rear aerodynamics; up to 1,763.7lbs of downforce. Driver-focused cockpit, with only essential instrumentation and ultra-light, one-piece carbon fiber racing seats. Carbon fiber Monocage III chassis and carbon body panels are integral in making the McLaren Senna the lightest road car McLaren has built since the iconic F1, at 2,641lbs lightest dry weight. 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, the most powerful McLaren road car internal combustion engine ever, configured to deliver instant throttle response. The M840TR engine produces 789bhp and 590b ft, giving the McLaren Senna a power-toweight ratio of 659bhp-per-ton. Savage performance: 124mph in just 6.8 seconds, with 62mph achieved in 2.8 seconds and 186mph in 18.8seconds. The cockpit comes alive with the sound of air rushing into the roof-mounted ‘snorkel’ intake. Unique Inconel and titanium exhaust exits through ultra-low carbon fiber rear deck, enhancing aerodynamic performance. Motorsport-derived braking system provides unprecedented stopping power: braking from 124mph to stand still in just 328 feet (100 meters). Production limited to 500 units, all hand-assembled at the McLaren Production Centre in Woking, Surrey, England, from Q3 2018 -and all allocated to customer. True to the legendary abilities of one of McLaren’s greatest racers, every element of the McLaren Senna has an uncompromising performance ethos and a raw focus that delivers the purest connection between driver and car; this is the most responsive and engaging road-going McLaren ever. To this end, the appearance of the car is deliberately aggressive; organic shapes have given way to a design language that purposely fragmented in its pursuit of absolute performance, with downforce and aerodynamic balance the guiding principles. The McLaren Senna is the most robust expression yet of McLaren’s ‘form follows function’ philosophy. n
