Hello Beastie Bunnies,

There isn’t much to say this month. Division 19 South held their conclave on January 16th, 2016 with the Key Club Divisions in Region 8. And now I would like to introduce you to our own Lt. Governor Elect. Hailing from the Carson Key Club, standing at an impressive height of something at or above 5 feet, is our very own… Domo Soriano! If you would like to meet and learn more about your new Lt. Governor, please go to the DCM on January 23rd, 2016! It’s this Saturday and it’ll be the last DCM I host alone, and one of the last DCMs in the term. Creating Change One Hop at a Time,

Xuexing Ong d19s.cnhkc.ltg@gmail.com (310) 774-6982

Carson

Carson Complex held our Awake-a-thon on December 23, 2015 (7am-7pm) at Lomita Kiwanis Hall. We ended up making it our team event and invited Mary Star, HTPA, Narbonne, and Pedro, and it was a great opportunity to bond with everyone. To keep everyone awake, we had many games throughout the night, and of course, we had our annual Hide & Seek and our Marco Polo games. For the rest of the time, members played video games and others stuck with the board and card games. We also had a few food runs to make sure no one went starving. Overall the whole team had an amazing night and no one fell asleep. – Samantha Angeles

North

Every year North High partners up with the Los Amigos Organization to help collect donations for their Canned Food Drive in December. ASB and Key Club members worked quickly together to sort cans into boxes and different types of foods. We organized these can donations from other students and clubs, to create a pyramid that the school had showcased the total number of donations we received this year during our past Winter Assembly. All donations, cans or money were for less fortunate families, who are affected by HIV and AIDS. – Jacqueline Fuentes

West

This past month, West High’s Key Club and Torrance Kiwanis Club participated in the Salvation Army Bell Ringing in front of the Vons at the Torrance Crossroads Shopping Center. A group of us participated with our advisor, Mr. Makashanoff, his wife, Mrs. Makshannof, and Charlotte Svolos. We sang a variety of Christmas carols and it was a fun experience overall. Although we lost our voices in the end, it was very rewarding to know that we were able to contribute to such a good cause during the giving season of the holidays. – Jasmine Nguyen 6

December DCM + Winter Social

Christmas spirit was spread throughout Hermosa Kiwanis Hall on December 20th. Several members of Division 19 South, alumni, and advisors all gathered together to celebrate the start of Winter Break. After the DCM, members were able to participate in unlimited hot chocolate and other treats prior to the start of the social. We started off the evening with a few icebreakers before transitioning to a highly anticipated White Elephant Gift Exchange. Some lucky participants received gift cards while an unfortunate member received a signed and framed portrait of Lieutenant Governor Xuexing Ong. To end off the night, members all gathered together to sing some songs and enjoy the company of their fellow beastie bunnies. As the term comes to an end, there are only a few DCMs left to bond with your ohana. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next DCM!

Rose Float Decorating

From December 30th – 31st, 100 members from Division 19 South all participated in helping make floats for the Rose Float Parade in Pasadena. Members endured the freezing temperatures to help prepare flowers and materials that were needed for the floats. A few lucky members even got to climb up the scaffolds to put on the flowers and vegetation on the floats! Most of the work had been completed when our members arrived but that did not prevent members from eagerly helping out when assigned a task. Rose Float decorating is an annual event that members will always look forward to every year.

Meet your LTG Elect!

Domo Soriano

Hello Division 19 South! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Domo Soriano and I will BEE serving as your Lieutenant Governor for the 2016-2017 term! To start off, I would like to thank you for electing me! The whole experience is pretty surreal, and I’m absolutely ecstatic to serve you this upcoming term! I joined Key Club my freshmen year, and immediately found the organization to be a place where I could be myself and venture out, while learning the significance of giving back to our communities. Last term I served as my home Club’s treasurer, and this year I hold the position as Carson’s president. Here are a few things I would like for you guys to know about me: My favorite color is blue. I’m not too fond of chocolate. I love wearing dresses and skirts. If I could be reincarnated into anything, I’d pick a cherry blossom. Lastly, the members are my biggest inspiration. Without the members, I definitely would not be the person I am today. “HOP”-fully, I will get to know each and every one of you throughout the year! (Fun fact: my puns are terrible, I apologize in advance.) Let’s STRIDE through a year of service!

Bouncing for the greater good, Dominique “Domo” Soriano

My Key Club Moment Looking back, it’s already been 4 years since I joined Key Club. Key Club has given me many priceless memories. Through Key Club, I’ve experienced so much: my first time staying in a hotel, my first time taking an uber, my first time in a plane, and my first time leaving the state. Needless to say, I really don’t know what I would’ve done. Maybe I would’ve joined CSF, Interact, or even Kiwins. Looking back, I really don’t know where I became so into Key Club. I don’t know if it was my first meeting, my first Fall Rally, my first DCON, or maybe a random service event. Somehow along the line, I ended up as dedicated as I am. Somehow along the line, Key Club took up all my passion and love making me reject other clubs. Turns out it made me reject my grades too. This passion and this love seem to take up my entire life. And I can’t pinpoint where exactly this happened. I think that, that’s because I loved my entire time in Key Club and that there wasn’t one moment where I fell in love. These 4 years were but a moment of life, like a warm summer breeze, something so fleeting, but you don’t you know you miss until it’s over. Thank you all for making my experience something so special. – Xuexing Ong, Senior (North)

Editor’s Message

Can you believe that it’s almost the end of the administrative term? In just a few months, we’ll be under new leadership and going through many more adventures as a division. To the seniors; your adventure with the Kiwanis family isn’t over yet! Don’t be afraid to take your next step with Circle K and cherish the time you have left in Key Club. District Convention is right around the corner and I hope to see all your eager and spirited faces in Sacramento! There, we’ll be able to celebrate service and spirit one last time as all of CNH during this term. Bunnies, it’s not the end just yet. I hope to see you in the next issue and as usual, thank you for reading!
