To the Beastiest Bunnies, With the start of the school year, many of you are already feeling the pressure. I too am feeling the workload. It’ll be hard, but that’s what makes it all the better when you conquer it. I believe in all of you. You can do it! On that note, are you prepared for the Fall? The upcoming months will be filled with countless events and service projects. It’ll be quite busy as well but it will be worth it. In the month of October, we have events such as RTC and Key to College. RTC or Region Training Conference is a training conference, not just for officers but for members too. The most impressive part about RTC is that, the rest of the Region will be there. All in all there will be 5 divisions attending this event. It will be a day of food, fun, and learning. Key to College is a program developed by Circle K for high school students. Circle K is our College counterparts. Key to College is an excellent way to learn about the college life, as well as interact with our Kiwanis Family. These are just some of the events in the coming months. Nonetheless I hope that you may all join us for such events.

Club Reports

North High School is about to begin. Students at North High School had begun to register on August 24th through 27th. Key Club members decided to volunteer along with their fellow Julians and Valiants Interact Club (J’s and V’s Club) during registration week at North. Members were helping in the library to file numerous papers, make book covers, and hand out textbooks to new and returning students. Volunteers were able to experience the hard work that goes behind the scenes inside the library. Now that registration is over, students are ready for the new year! – Katie Son

Maryson HTBonnedro @ The Color Run Volunteering for the Color Run Night was a great experience. Our group worked specifically at the water station. Here, half of us unpackaged water bottles. The bottles were then spread out on three large tables for participants to walk by and pick up. Some of us went to the finish line with 6 or so bottles at a time to hand them out to the runners once they reached the end. Other volunteers provided Crystal Light samples the whole night. The service event served as a great opportunity for the members to bond with one another since we were all packed in the same area, encouraging us to communicate with one another.–Domo Soriano (Carson)

I really enjoyed the black light color run because Carly Rae Jepson was there and I had the opportunity to give her a water bottle when she crossed the finish line. (Our group had been assigned the water bottle stand to offer waters to the runners and participants.) Then when she sang and everyone counted down to throw their color packets, it was really interesting and cool to see these explosions of color from a distance. The funnel cakes and carne asada fries were some of the best i've eaten in a while and it made my stomach very happy to be there.-Rachel Velez (Mary Star)

I and three other members from San Pedro Key Club partook in a volunteering opportunity at the The Color Run. This event, titled "the Happiest 5k on the Planet!" spanned from 6pm to 12pm and was in need of hard working, willing, and dedicated volunteers. After entering the event and getting an official volunteer shirt, my group of volunteers and I were transported to the "Black Light station" but were eventually moved to handing out water to the runners. Each volunteer and person managing the run were all in good spirits and seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves by helping with the run. My members and found something as simple as passing out water to be both memorable and enjoyable. As the last of the runners came and went, my members, other volunteers, and I all began to clean up and were all filled with a feeling of satisfaction as we had helped to do something helpful but something that also bettered ourselves.-James Cordova (San Pedro)

Maryson HTBonnedro @ Wilson Park On August 29 at 9:00am, Maryson HTbonnedro hosted a cleanup at Wilson Park. This park was very filled due to the farmers market on the west Quadrant and would most likely have plenty of trash to be picked up. There were several members from different schools with only two from Carson, including me and Paolo. The trash pickup had seemed to be a success as trash was found in many of the eating areas and sporting areas. The heat was booming, the animals were roaming, and the people were out exercising, eating, and relaxing. All of the members seemed to complete their jobs while getting scorched. But in the end, the park cleanup was successful and very boasted with people.-Trent Wiley (Carson)

Having the opportunity to bond with my fellow Key Clubbers while cleaning up the park, was really fun. People who were in the park thanked us for cleaning up and it felt nice. It made me realize even more that we were doing something right. Nicole Tayag (Narbonne)

The Charles H. Wilson park cleanup was such a fulfilling event. Not only did it give me the opportunity to bond with my fellow clubbers, it gave me the pleasure of serving for my local community. We split up into groups of 2 or 3 and we all dispersed throughout the park, eventually meeting up to collect the trash we accumulated. Even though it was a short and yet simple event, it gave us all a sense of satisfaction. The people there were so courteous and appreciative when they saw us cleaning up the park. The event really reminded us the reason of why we joined key club in the first place. None of members really seemed to mind spending an hour or two in helping out to clean the park. The members happily devoted themselves to taking a bit of their time to help out in the park. The event over all was a great experience.-Jason Ngo (HTPA)

Bayside Story @ Hermosa Beach It was really fun. We had to clean up the beach which was nice because we helped out environment. If more members went it would be really fun too but the amount that went was fine for the first club team event. –Karen Vuong (Redondo)

We helped clean up the beach with members from Redondo and some members from the community as well. It was overall fun and if planned better it can be better. –Dion Pham (West High)

Banana Cake @ Manhattan Beach At July DCM (Beach DCM), while we were working on the team sand castle building, leaders suggested that we should have our own team beach event. So presidents and vice presidents of our team planned this event, finalizing locations and time by the time we met at the OTC. Our team met at the Manhattan Beach Pier around 8-8:30 am. After waiting for enough members to come, in two or three groups, we distributed the trash bags and started to pick up trash around the beach. Manhattan Beach was pretty clean than we expected, so we were walking long distances to look for trash. After we were done with beach cleanup, some members from North and Mira Costa stayed and swam together, went to Jamba juice, and ate lunch at Subway. –Yuna Tae (Torrance)

Officer of the Month

Matthew Suzuki, HTPA

Matthew Suzuki has always been lit with passion for Key Club. He constantly wanted to improve the club. Every time I talked with Matthew, he would always ask if there is anything he can do. Through his leadership I have seen HTPA Key Club grow and that is why I believe he deserves to be the outstanding officer for the month of August.

Member of the Month Emily Sung,North

Emily Sung. While she may be a member, she certainly doesn’t lack the love for Key Club. Whenever she attends a DCM, I always find interesting tidbits of information from her. I can see she is eager to do more. She is indeed the Member of the Month of August.
