To My Fellow Key Clubbers, My name is Xuexing Ong and I will be serv ing as the Lieutenant Governor of Div ision 19 South for the 2015 – 2016 Term. I simply cannot wait to serv e our home, school, and community with all of you.

Born and raised in Southern California, I'v e liv ed my life in Gardena. In fact, when I mov ed for the v ery first time, I mov ed to a house a street way. I am currently attending North Torrance High School as a junior. I aspire to be a man who knows his way around computers. That is why my dream college is MIT. Whenev er I’m bored, I like to take a screw driv er and start dismantling things. I am fascinated at how with just a few pieces of metal and some electrical tape; you can create your v ery own speakers. When I’m not unscrewing things, I like to immerse myself in a good book or simply lie down and stare at the sky.

Coming into high school, I was a shy freshman; I sat in the back all alone. All this changed when I joined Key Club. I stopped sitting in the back during meetings and I started to make bonds with ev eryone around me. During this term, I plan to hear the v oices of the members. I plan to increase the passion members have for serv ice. Most importantly, I plan to let members know that ev erything they do, whether big or small, makes a difference and together we can achiev e anything-even a goal as large as $10,000 for PTP!

As the saying goes, “United we stand, div ided we fall.” So lift your hands towards the sky and lend me your strength in serv ing our community; with so much spirit it just might explode like a bomb. I guess you can say a Spirit Bomb of Serv ice.

Creating Change One Hop at a Time, Xuexing Ong

Division 19 South Lieutenant Governor 2015 – 2016 California-Nevada-Hawaii Key Club District Key Club International

Yuna Tae - EA

Hello Bunnies! My name is Mary Amontos and I am very excited to serve as your Executive Assistant for the 2015-2016 term! I am currently 16 years old and attend Carson High School as an upcoming junior. I enjoy venturing out to new places and anything that keeps me from falling asleep. This will be my 3rd year in Key Club and what can I say? Not only have I been given countless of opportunities for me to grow as a person, but I have also gained knowledge about leadership and different aspects of life. Let us continue to bounce for service and bring out the best for Division 19 South this year!

Hello, my wonderful Division 19 South! How do you feel? My name is Yuna Tae, and I’m finishing my sophomore year at Torrance high school. I’m actively involved in many extracurricular activities, including various service clubs and student council. I love anything to do with mint or green tea, and mint chocolate is my favorite :3 I joined Key club my freshman year because I wanted to serve my community. I served our division as Pediatric Trauma Project Funds Coordinator in 2014-15 as part of Division Leadership Team; I am currently serving my home club as vice president, and I’m excited to introduce myself as your new Executive Assistant this term. Key club is more than simply a service club; it’s a guideline of life. I cannot emphasize enough how excited I am to represent the best high school organization ever this year!

Mary Amontos - EA 3

Vincent Sung - EA I’m a beasty bunny.

I want to make unforgettable memories with my fellow members and create new friendships. I’m looking forward to a term full fun, laughter, and service!

Club Reports

Bishop Montgomery This previous month, Bishop Montgomery Key Club has been making ribbon leis for the graduating seniors. Making the ribbon leis is an annual thing we do. We make them during April and May and sell them on the day of graduation, this year on May 29th. In the beginning of April, the board already planned on teaching members how to make them. Every day we would meet up at lunch and make them. That's all we have been focusing on the last month and this month. – Celina Villanueva (President)

Carson One of the fundraisers we set up for the month of May was chocolate roses for Mother's Day. Aside from selling chocolates, we set up a few more hour opportunities. CHS KC got together to make the chocolate roses ourselves. We met once at Kiwanis hall, and met at Carson High another three times. All together, we were able to make 600 roses to fulfill the orders –Sam Angeles (Historian Committee)

North High On April 4, 2015 North High’s Key Club combined their forces with West High’s Interact and CSF clubs at a food bank for New Challenge Ministries (NCM). Overseeing this food bank was our Kiwanis advisor and Senior Pastor, John Ross Hernandez. Before we were assigned to do different jobs such as, setting up, filling the Easter baskets with goods, face painting, and coloring eggs, Mr. Hernandez told us the reason why we were having this event. The main purpose of this food bank was to help out and rescue less fortunate families who don’t have enough money at the moment to afford items such as food, clothing, or a toy that every child wishes to have. The stories of hardships and miracles Mr. Hernandez spoke of drove us to make this day memorable for these families, especially the children. This event created many memories and opportunities for families to experience. It did not matter which club you are a part of, whether you were from Key Club, Interact, CSF, or returning NCM volunteers, everyone joined together and helped one another out to put on a joyous gathering. Parents were given a free cellphone to stay connected with their love ones on an unlimited talk and text plan. Filling Easter baskets made everyone’s day whether you were a volunteer or a family in need. The entire atmosphere of the event was blithe and fun. Volunteers enjoyed cooking the delicious food provided and cheering on little ones during a three-legged sack race. Capturing the smiles on parents’ and children’s faces instilled members to continue giving back to the community. “Caring is our way of life.” – Jacqueline

Palos Verdes This month, PVPHS Key Club has been in close contact with Harbor Interfaith, a community center dedicated to assisting the impoverished and homeless in the San Pedro area. Club members who attend spend the day organizing, folding, and finding clothes for the countless people who are in need. There is also an active food pantry where volunteers pre-package bags of food for individuals and families, and on the occasion that parents bring their children, there is a box of stuffed animals for the kids to pick as they please. Finally, the second floor of the building is a daycare center where Key clubbers entertain the children and assist the caretakers in any way possible. We volunteer at Harbor Interfaith every week and alternate Thursdays and Fridays. We truly enjoy working at Harbor Interfaith as it gives us a raw glimpse into our community and further allows us to appreciate what we have and inspires us

to help others more than we did before working at this center. – Higino

D19s @AEE Sharefest On May 2nd, Division 19 South gathered together to help renovate AEE: an academy located on the Carson Complex campus. Different schools from the division spent several hours doing an assortment of tasks. Some tasks included sweeping the classrooms, painting murals, and preparing lunch for the volunteers. Thanks to Sharefest and the other sponsors, our Key Clubbers were given shirts and a delicious Chick-Fil-A lunch. There was even a flashmob promposal for one of our EAs, Yuna Tae! Although it was tedious and time consuming work, the end result was great. Students attending AEE were surprised to see how colorful their parking-lot style campus was when school started on Monday. It was great seeing Key Clubbers, AEE students and staff, and other organizations all coming out to support our community. Photo Credits: Genesis Garcia

April DCM Our April DCM was held on April 18, 2015 at Delthorne Park. Approximately 50 members from around the division attended our 3rd DCM of the 2015-2016 term. At this DCM we played 3 icebreakers. The first one was a sing-a-long led by our LTG, Xuexing Ong. After that icebreaker, representatives from each club summarized what they did during the previous month. We also played 2 more icebreakers. One of them was a hybrid of the human knot and red light/green light and the other one was a simple game of “LTG Says. After eating the snacks that were brought by several Key Clubbers, Xuexing went on to announce the new Division Leadership Team. Our 3 new Executive Assistants are Yuna Tae, Mary Amontos, and Vincent Sung. Our new Division News Editor is Jenyfel Gorre. The DCM came to an end after we took a few group photos.
