To the Beastiest Bunnies, Much has been done this past month. In the month of July, Division 19 South hosted a day at the Beach DCM. During the DCM, club teams competed against each other for the coveted Spirit Stick. While Team Maryson Htbonnedro won the first game, and Team Banana Cake won the second game, it was Team Bayside Story that took home the Spirit Stick.

The Spirit Stick is now a monthly tradition for all DCMs. Do you have what it takes to take home the Spirit Stick? But, don’t just get caught up with the spirit. It’s important to remember that Key doesn’t come first. Pay attention in school. Spend some time with family. And have fun. Time flies fast when you’re having fun. It feels like just yesterday, school had ended. And now, it has begun. Now is the time to finish up whatever summer homework you may have left. I wish you all the best of luck in the coming school year. Especially with all the effort you will be putting in. It’s great to have your %110 during Service Projects, but you should also put in at least %100 for school work. Just like is approaching its end, so is this letter. So I end this letter with one final challenge. Post a selfie on instagram, twitter, or any social media outlet of you having fun with the hashtag #19SoverSummer.

Club Reports

North High On the first weekend of August, August 1-2, 2015 North High’s Key Club volunteered at local Buddhist Church during their Obon Festival. This was a joint volunteering event with our fellow North High CSF (California Scholarship Federation). Signups for booths were equally split between the clubs. There was a variety of booths Key Clubbers and members of CSF that could volunteer at bingo, spam musubi, teriyaki chicken or beef, or dango booths. Volunteers were like the oil to a machine—processing food to be sold, passing out cards to play bingo, or simply offering water and tea to keep young and elderly comfortable in the heat—they kept the festival alive and blithe. The event was arduous, but very fun at the same time. Key Clubbers and CSF members mingled, made new friends and met friendly locals. The Obon festival was a joyous event for families to relax and make memories, while it gave volunteers a chance to experience and see Japanese culture firsthand. – Jacqueline Fuentes

Maryson HTBonnedro This service event served as a great opportunity for Maryson HTbonnedro to come together as a team. Members met up at the front of the pier, briefly exchanged names, and immediately got to volunteering with supplies provided by the presidents of HTPA and Narbonne. Despite Redondo Beach appearing somewhat clean at first glance, we were able to reel in a whopping 5 bags of trash within a 5 mile radius. Trash lied in varying locations, ranging from the shores to the sidewalk that bordered the sand. Following the service event, members were encouraged to stay at the beach where they played games, walked along the shore, or simply lied down under the sun to grasp some relaxation. All in all, the event was a great way to incorporate service and fun while creating stronger bonds among ourselves.– Luis Refuerzo

Narbonne At our monthly service event called White Elephant Sale, we sell drinks, snacks, and food at our monthly swap meet on our school's campus throughout the morning.

July DCM

Keyclubbers from around the division all gathered together on a bright and beautiful July 25th at Hermosa Beach. Throughout the day, members got to chat with each other and play beach themed icebreakers. There was a sand castle building contest and destruction of the sandcastles. Members were given the opportunity to bury their Lieutenant Governor underneath the sand. Each shovel of sand cost $1 and the total profit was $45. Division 19 South bunnies had a great time kicking it back with their fellow members. It was a great opportunity to relax and have fun before another busy school year begins.

Officer Training Conference On August 15th, Division 19 South held its annual Officer Training Conference at Narbonne Highschool. Throughout the day, members and officers were able to educate themselves more about their position and role in Key Club Everyone had fun playing icebreakers during presentations. There was also a DCM during OTC. Club teams competed for the monthly spirit stick and the big winner of this month was Team Banana Cake. After DCM was lunch. Members were able to enjoy pizza and chips. After lunch, 2 more workshops were held along with a final closing session. Before the members left, we all took a Super Saiyan group photo to celebrate a successful day of training. Hopefully, the members left OTC with more knowledge about Key Club, their position, and the division they serve.
