Janet Chapman: A Corte Bella Friend to All Deborah Damery Lazear, CSW Janet, a long-time Corte Bella resident, relocated from California with her husband Jonathan. Family and close friends were already here, so the move was easy. Janet enjoys golf, interest groups (SOuL), hanging with friends at the Anacapa, and charity fund-raising events like the CB Vets Golf Tournament. But, Janet’s true passion is animal welfare. She’s a believer that animals need an advocate and says “They have no voice, yet they speak to my heart.” Janet, California born and raised, graduated from Fremont High in 1974 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. She was stationed in Augsburg, Germany (south of Frankfurt) in 1975 as a Unit Clerk for a Medical Evacuation unit. Working with a helicopter unit, she assisted in rescue operations involving infants and females. Janet believes in military service and feels that it develops patriotism, and provides direction, discipline, and purpose to young people.
Janet’s network connections promotes adoption and fostering of animals in need of a permanent home. Her grass-roots efforts recently helped two stray dogs, dumped without collars in Corte Bella, to find permanent homes. Janet works to place animals not only within but beyond Corte Bella’s gates. In the future, she plans to be an animal shelter volunteer. Janet and Jonathan are beach bums at heart and they dream of unrestricted travel in their golden years. Janet craves “Vitamin Sea”. Janet’s philosophy is to respect all living creatures, and to respect other people without judgement. She celebrates our community’s diversity and supports harmony, saying she’s too old for drama. She chuckles that animals are

She will feed, walk, play with, and provide general care for your pet in your home. Offering those services for 10 years, she calls it a “win-win” for her and her clients.
often more likable than humans. While Janet works her magic with many Corte Bella pets, those who know her also know she is a wonderful friend and a positive force in our community. Her friendly style and her engaging smile make her a Corte Bella special person. If they could talk, many a Corte Bella pet would agree.

Janet returned to civilian life and obtained her Associates degree in Business Administration. She pursued a career in sales from 1978 to 2017, working in the semi-conductor industry, home improvement media production, and with retractable sun screens. Janet’s true love is animal advocacy. A Wildlife World Zoo member, she donates to local animal shelters and rescue organizations, like Sun Cities 4 Paws and Sun Valley Animal Shelter, collecting unneeded animal care items to donate to those organizations.
